We had always wanted to ride in one of these iconic cabs with the distinctive look! We were picked up on time, the driver was pleasant and helpful but thankfully, not talkative at that unholy hour, and we felt safe the whole time. There wasn't much traffic at 2:30am so we got to the airport in about 25 minutes. Our fare was £23 and we paid by credit card. Since we were leaving the UK, I emptied my wallet of all my coins and gave it to the driver. It came out to be about £5. I know they don't expect a tip but I didn't want to carry home any change and he was helping me out by accepting it. A great ride experience overall that I will readily repeat next time I'm in Edinburgh.

I suggest the Red Line as it passes most of the major sites. Ride the loop once first to get your bearings and decide what you want to see when. I suggest getting off at Edinburgh Castle, take the Castle Tour, then start exploring the shops/restaurants/whiskey sellers along the Royal Mile so you're walking downhill :).

It's not as long as some other tours you might do in a larger city but it's a good way to get to and from all the sites. Helped that one stop was across the street from our hotel.

The Edinburgh Bus Tour hits all of the most popular/must see and you decide when and where to hop on/hop off. There were three routes to choose from. We took the red and blue headset line and passed on the green route with live guide. It can be a few hour or all day. Unfortunately we had to return the car a bit later than expected and were charged an extra full day's fee, but since this was a last minute change on our end, I understand. It cost about $72 USD per day, which I thought was a great value. Checking in and out was relatively easy through Arnold Clarke, their contractor. I didn't like that no one welcomed us when we came in, leaving us to stand awkwardly until they decided to pay us attention. Drop off was easy and they shuttled us to the airport. Forgot to take a picture of the car but we did love taking it up to the Highlands.

We had a spectacular day on the tour to Rosslyn Chapel, the Borders, and Hadrian's Wall. Our…read moredriver, Angela provided information, history, humor, and music along the way. Our first stop was Rosslyn Chapel where we heard its history and had ample time to tour inside and out, which included the short hike down the hill to Rosslyn Castle. From there we made our way to Melrose for lunch and a tour of Melrose Abbey. We weren't able to tour inside since it's currently undergoing restoration but we were able to see the burial site of Robert the Bruce's' heart and walk the grounds. Next we made the drive to Hadrian's Wall and were able to walk along the wall where Roman soldiers stood in 122 AD; incredible! Finally we made a stop at the borders where we were able to be in the two countries at once. We had a fantastic day and loved Angela!
