I'll make it brief. We had an emergency. We had to leave town on a trip. The House sitter who came mis-portrayed her ability to take care of our 55 pound Australian Shepard Mix. She took no responsibility for it. We had to find a place to Board him while on the move. IN the meantime, we had to find someone to help for a day. Walking the Dogs was there. They answered; they responded; they did 2 walks, gave us photos and feedback, and put our minds at rest. Can't say how much we appreciated this. Highly recommend this service. read more

I very strongly recommend Walking the Dogs -- it takes a great deal for me to be completely satisfied with a service, and this company met ALL my expectations and went beyond them. Walking the Dogs provided dog walking services for my mother in assisted living 3 times a day and they were wonderful. All the dog walkers were amazing, they not only walked but also fed her dog and made sure everything was going okay. Since I live out of town, they took care of things for me and made sure I knew when I had to address something, and the system they have for providing journal entries after every walk kept me informed about my mother and the dog better than the facility staff did! And when my mother was in the hospital, they took care of the dog, which was such a relief. Felicia has been extremely responsive and supportive, and all the staff have been extremely helpful. I've had them coming over for years now to help out with my dogs Jamie, Milo and Madge. The pack love all the staff, but especially Virginny who is their usual gal. I mostly am home early though to handle their walks but if I go out of town my husband's hours are too long and they appreciate the visit. Sometimes we need medication given and that is handled well. OMG! Why did I wait so long to leave a yelp review for this company? We've been using Walking the Dogs for a year now and couldn't be happier! We adopted Storm (four months old at the time) and knew that we couldn't expect her crate training/house breaking to go easy without additional help because we both work; Walking the Dogs came highly recommended from a friend and now we know why!! Felicia, the owner and our dog walking team (Joia and Susi) came to the house to introduce themselves, meet the dogs and go over the expectations/traditions. We walked them through our routine and our favorite part is the daily notes they leave regarding how the pups did, and any fun/excitement they had on the walk. On one occasion our back gate was locked and Susi went above and beyond and scaled our six-foot privacy fence to use the keypad on our back door to ensure she would be able to take the girls out for their walk. We only intended to use the dog walkers for six months until Storm was old enough to "hold it" for 8 hours while we were away at work, but continued on for the last year; Walking the Dogs Team makes it easy to continue to use their walkers; they treat our dogs like family. They are very flexible/responsive and answer emails very quickly. When new dog walkers were added we were given the opportunity to meet them in person before they came to the house. We can't say enough great things about the company and continue to tell our friends/neighbors to use them either for daily walks or for travel. The best part is having piece of mind knowing that your dogs are being treated great, enjoy their walks, treats and all the belly rubs a pup could want. We thoroughly enjoy our current dog walking team with Stephanie and Christine. The pricing is comparable to other places we've seen (through flyers on the door), but it's never been a thought that we'd discontinue our service and use someone else. read more

We had used a different company when we first moved to Lorton, "Anytime Petcare" by Jenn Kroeger, and we were VERY DISAPPOINTED and quite frankly, DISGUSTED with Jenn Kroeger's mistreatment of our sweet dog, Bullseye (as witnessed by our neighbor). Hopefully, my many reviews on other consumer sites has prevented her from potentially mistreating other beloved pets. With that being said, we LOVE our walkers, Eleanor and Tina, from Walking the Dogs. They are kind and reliable, and seem to genuinely care for our dog. Felicia has been more than understanding and accomodating to my many requests and often, my many changes. We had also rec'd good service from Becky's Petcare; however, Walking the Dogs seems much more personable and flexible, being a smaller company. I would have to agree with a previous review regarding the personability of the staff that don't necessarily have to "follow corporate policies and procedures". Having two large strong dogs, I needed to find a dog walker who was comfortable enough to walk and handle them. When Walking the Dogs ensured me that they would be able to handle and care for my two Rotties, it did not take long to see my dogs were in very good trusting hands. Walking the dogs is very professional, friendly and accommodating for varying busy schedules. Being new to the area, I was in desperate need of a walking service for my 13 year old lab. I placed many calls and had a few consultations that did not rub me the right way at all. I was looking for a company that made me feel good about leaving my pup in their care. After all my pup, as many other people will agree, are our kids and part of the family. So as you would be picky with childcare for your child, this is the same thing. After my initial meeting with Walking the Dogs, I felt so good about leaving my pup in their care. They accommodate any last minute request's, and take really great care of my pup on their walks. (as witnessed by my neighbor) I would definitely recommend them! Walking The Dogs came highly recommended through a local mom's group. We used them to check in on our cat while we were away for the holidays. We were struck by how thorough their vacation check-ins were since they were concerned about looking for and cleaning up messes, taking out the trash cans on trash days, bringing in the mail, and ensuring a light or two was on to give the appearance of someone being at home. And of course they checked in on the cat and fed her wet food, which kept her happy. When we came home, we found that they left detailed notes on their daily visit with our cat. I never write reviews on yelp but felt it necessary since I can't sing enough praises about this dog walking service. I have two very large (80 and 100 lb) labradoodles who have been walked by Felicia and her team since they were both puppies (over 5 years now). Sarah and Judy are absolutely amazing- they were able to help me when it came to consistency with leash training when the pups were young. On the occasions where I happened to be home when the walkers dropped in, I was able to see my pups LIGHT up with excitement (these pups ain't loyal). They truly treat your furbabies as if they were their own. I've experienced nightmare situations in the past where a different company lost one of my dogs on more than one occasion so it's safe to say that I have trust issues when it comes to dog care services being able to handle my horse pups. That being said, I've never had ANY doubt when it comes to Felicia and her team. I recommend them to everyone I know in the Springfield/Burke area. read more

I just got back from a trip during which I used walking the dogs. This was actually the first time my almost 13 year old dog ever stayed overnight by himself. But, honestly, I never had a concern from the first meeting with Felicia (along with Tracie and Julie - the two women who took great care of my dog.) I like that this company is not so big that you deal with a staff that follows corporate policies and procedures - instead, you deal with the owner. And while it was unnecessary for me, I was impressed by the comprehensive reports written after each of 3 visits per day (which included medicating, feeding and walking). I do not hesitate to recommend this company wholeheartedly, and will not hesitate to use them again when needed. read more

Update/Reponse: First I would like to let people know that I have been harassed by various Yelp users due to the negative review. I have been called names and told that I must be bitter. I have also gotten emails from the company asking me to change my review. I continue to leave this review because I feel that people do need to know about this experience. I personally want to have people's honest opinions and experiences when I am looking at reviews. I am very sorry that others do not feel the same way but I don't think that it is fair or right to harass someone over an honest review. This wasn't a case of walking into the house and a dog had recently peed on my floor once. The problem went on for days and no one called us to let us know. The sitter bagged up my kitchen mats (which eventually had to be trashed along with the bathroom ones) and put them in the garage days before we got home b/c the dog had diarrhea on them, yet no one called to tell us that our dog had an upset stomach. They continued to leave that dog out of her crate even after the accidents on the rugs. The only communication we had during our trip was an email and a phone call that were initiated by us when our motion alarms went off in the middle of the night b/c the cat went upstairs, you can read below for more but you get the idea. In response to the newer comment: We had no contact info for my sitters and were only given the office # per company policy we were told on our previsit. Also we made the company very aware of our cameras even showing one to the previsit lady. Original Post: First let me say that we were somewhat satisfied with the companies response to our concerns but I could not in good faith recommend this company to anyone. We were very unhappy with the condition of our home and pets upon our return from a 6 day vacation. As a former pet sitter of 10 years myself I am well aware of the ins and outs of doing the job we hired this company to do. First of all we have cameras in our home (which they were aware of) so we saw some of what was going on while we were gone although with no direct way to contact the sitter we were left to contact the office when they opened for business. First the sitter left our outdoor cat inside over night and she proceeded to urinate and defecate on the carpet. Later we found that they did not clean this up. We also saw that one of the sitters brought a man in our house and then left him in our home while she went to walk our dogs. There were a few other issues but those were the most concerning to us at the time when we were miles away from home. When we returned home we knew something was wrong from the minute we opened our front door. The house smelled of feces and urine. Since our dogs are crated and our cat lives outside we were not prepared to return to this sort of thing. They never have accidents in the house for other sitters or for us. After doing a quick walk through I found urine and feces in 4 different areas in our house. Some of the urine and feces was from our cat who was left in the house as I stated above. The others were from our dogs. Both dogs have crates and one is left out for a few hours at a time. I told the company that they could crate her full time or leave her out between the daytime visits which should have been about 6 hours apart. After reading notes it seems that the dog was left out almost continuously even after she used the kitchen mats as a potty for feces and urine. She began having diarrhea shortly after we left but no one called or emailed us about this condition. If they had I could have told them I had meds they could give her. We also found that at some point she had defecated in her crate and remnants of it were spread all over the walls of the crate as if they picked up the "pile" but didn't clean the crate. There was also urine and feces in the cat's carrier that she eats in. It looked like it had been there for days. We are not sure how that happen since she is usually only in it for 10 minutes to eat and then she meows like crazy to go back out. There were other areas but I think it would just be over kill to continue naming them all. Let me note we got home 4 hours after the pet sitter left our home the last time. So there was no time nor way (the cat was out when we got home) for these things to have happen in that time frame. So I took pictures of everything, medicated my dogs because by this time both had loose stool. Then I proceeded to call the company to let them know we were home, also that there were issues and I sent them the photo. I the end they sent us back our 2nd check which was equal to about 45%. I am very disappointed as I was really looking forward to having a sitter I could trust so that we could travel more. I think it will be a while before we try another sitter :( read more

We asked them to feed our dog a 6:30am and they told us the earliest they could do was 7 in the morning. Yesterday they did show up until 8 and today it is 8:25 and they still haven't showed up today. I called and they informed me that the system had between 7-8:30 but our email confirmation stated 7. A dog that eats at 6:30 can't wait to eat at 8:30 and have them coming at different times and throw his system off. They need to work on their schedule. But the did walk and feed the dog once they showed up and they did a good job doing that. I could tell that they loved the dog as soon as they met him so they are great with the dog and there intentions were great. They just need to work on the time. read more

We have used Walking the Dogs for 2 1/2 years now with our two small dogs. We're a scheduled once a week walk; and then normally a few more times a month when we'll be away from the house. The office is very attentive and the dog-walkers we've had have been great. They assign a primary walker so that your dogs get to know them. So pleased with this company. We used them recently to take care of our elderly cat while we went on an overseas vacation. In the past we had relied on family members, but they were not available. I had seen W the D ads in our neighborhood newsletter and picked up their card at my vet's. Read the reviews on Yelp, researched other companies and decided to call. They were quickly responsive and we made an appt. for a home visit. At the home visit the owner came and the two ladies that would be taking care of "the queen". They loved on my cat and made sure the keys worked while I filled out paperwork. We walked thru the house to go over her spaces and needs. I have to say, I was anxious, but they responded to my emails during our trip and sent photos of her being well cared for. Our plane was early and we arrived home while the sitter was feeding her. I could tell she had been happy by the "head bump" she gave the sitter. The sitter gave us a quick report and said she would contact the office that we were back. Then we saw the stack of papers with notes from each visit. So cute and funny to read about our kitty's "vacation". I could go on and on and will if someone asks, but suffice it to say I love this company, they took wonderful care of my baby and all her quirks and requirements. read more

For almost 3 years I've been using Walking the Dog to take my dog for walks while I'm at work. Today I received an email stating that Bella has been extremely aggressive and we needed to talk. This was news to me because none of the notes they left me had ever said anything about this. I called the owner of the company and she proceeds to tell me that Bella has been consistently showing aggression when they try to leave. I asked her if they had been using her vibrating collar and she told me that they don't and won't because they don't believe in it and then she told me that they wanted to terminate services. To me this was highly unprofessional because 1) my dog has been using this collar since last June and 2) I was never told anything about aggression until today when they dropped us. I would not recommend using the company Walking the Dog to take care of your dog if the notes they are going to leave are lies. read more
