Although it had no previous reviews, I decided to take a chance and contact Happy Houlas. I emailed Kristy and she responded within the day, and we later arranged for a meet and greet. A first meeting is super important to me, especially since you're trusting a complete stranger to enter your home while you're gone. I found Kristy very friendly, warm, and responsive throughout, and was flexible in working with the schedule I laid out. Working with her directly and through her web portal made the arrangements very easy. In the portal, there are some standard permission-type forms that need to be completed before the first day of service. There are also areas where you can give specific instructions and list any special needs or considerations you have for your home or your pet(s) (it's a good idea to use a lockbox). And you get the final quote quickly without obligation. She visited the house each day that I had instructed her to, logging in each visit to the house by emailing photos of replaced cat food, cleared litter box, and a short synopsis of each visit. My cats run and hide from strangers (I told her to expect this), but she assured me that she had seen them at least. Although I did not ask her to, she even gathered the litter into a bag and set it in my garbage bin outside so that the odor wouldn't fester inside the house. And as a nice personal touch, she put in a furnace filter deodorizer so I could return to a fresh smelling house (Heck, I don't even do that). This was my first time paying for a pet sitting service, but I was very happy in choosing Happy Houlas, and feel more confident that I can take longer trips in the future. I believe Kristy's specialty is dogs but she did a great job caring for my cats. I would have no problem acquiring her services in the future.

We met a few days before our departure which was day after Christmas. Within two days of our consult, one of our dogs became ill and had to be hospitalized during Christmas Eve due to reaction to a pain medication and was discharged Christmas Day. We contemplated canceling our vacation but didn't and relied on Gabriela and her team to take care of our dog while she recovered (slowly). She needed medications, extra attention, as well as taking care of another dog while we were away for 5 days. We almost canceled our trip but glad we didn't as Burke Center Pet Sitting took care of our fukids and helped our sick one recover during our absence. They communicated every day, checked in our dogs multiple times a day, dispensed medications, and cleaned up after a sick dog. Within the first day we were confident we made the right decision. I can go on about how great Burke Centre Pet Sitting is but the simplest way to put it is we put in their hands a dog that was hospitalized Christmas Eve and they were able to take care of her and make us comfortable to enjoy our vacation. I contacted Becky's Pet care in 2012 to walk my rescue German shepherd Mia…read more I had called five other places and each one would politely say they couldn't help me once they actually got IN the house to meet Mia. (If you have a shepherd you know what I'm talking about). Mia had been abused and then fostered by five to six different foster families. I was her last one. She was the sweetest dog to me but if you were a stranger, you had to earn her trust--and it wasn't easy. She was beaten by a man so, it was twice as hard if you were a man. I was also told by her last foster that she got in the garbage, chewed up everything and was in general very destructive. The lady they sent was awesome. She even coordinated with my friend (who Mia trusted) to have someone there she (Mia) knew until Mia got used to their employee. I believe her name was Sephira. Well, Sephira and Mia became best friends and after about a two week get-to-know-each-other period--everything went very smoothly. My dog was let out in the middle of the day for a short walk and then loved up and played with, and watered. Never came home to any accidents and even got a poop report! Lol. I just rescued another German shepherd but have moved out of their service area. I just wanted everyone to know what wonderful people they have working there. And, Mia lived a very long, happy life. She passed in 2018 at 16 years old.
