I hate starting a review off with "There is not a whole lot I can say about Walkers," but here I go. We came to the Galt Hotel unexpectedly for two days with our American Cruise Line Mississippi River Cruise, so we had a free breakfast for two days. The restaurant was very conveniently located on the second floor not far from the elevators. While we heard about the buffet, we did not see it and ordered from the menu. We were always warmly greeted and never had to wait more than a minute or two to be seated. Walker's is a very comfortable spot and the big windows throughout the venue, there is a lot of light. On both morning occasions that we came here our friendly servers were at the table quickly with water and taking drink orders. THey brought us back or beverages and took orders. Service was quick and all meals (eggs, pancakes, french toast) were hot, tasty, fresh and a portioned well. I was very disappointed to read a couple of non-favorable reviews but they all did very well by us. Pehaps they made some changes based on what they read. The prices are a little higher, but fair when you see how much food you get. The brisket grilled cheese had a good texture, but could have used a little more in the seasoning department. The pork chop was tender and delicious, but the apple flavor was not super prominent. Our server was kind and attentive. He even brought us a slice of blueberry cheese cake when he heard it was our anniversary. That being said, I did observe a sever not wash his hands as he left the restroom with me. (Pink Floyd) My first breakfast in Louisville was hard to beat because we had a fantastic experience at Walker's Exchange gargantuan Breakfast Buffet. We found it on the second Floor of the Galt House's West Tower and we were impressed the minute we set foot inside, because Walker's Exchange is huge. The dining rooms went on and on, a never-ending layout of well-spaced tables and chairs. That theme was repeated when we looked for the breakfast buffet, It took a while to see it because it was WAY down from the dining room and the layout turned out to be even more spacious than the dining room. There were French Toast, grits, plenty of pastries, scrambled eggs, carved country ham, potatoes, frittatas, juice, bacon, sausage, fruit, yogurt, bagels, lox, waffles and an omelet station. I had an egg white omelet with tomatoes, mushrooms, onions and jalapenos. It was made to order in front of my eyes and it was excellent. I added some potatoes from a hot tray, splashed on some hot sauce and enjoyed a top-notch omelet. I also had a few slices of that tempting country ham and man oh man was that good. Add in excellent coffee and friendly professional service and you will have a tough time finding a better $25 breakfast anywhere. read more

While the location is unbeatable for convenience and the staff was incredibly kind, the food unfortunately missed the mark. The pancakes were very dense and had an off-putting texture, while our eggs arrived overcooked. Even the bagel and lox felt underwhelming for the price. To top it off, the coffee was served lukewarm at best. I really wanted to like this place, but I wouldn't suggest starting your morning here. Very clean and huge dining space. Very nice atmosphere. I had a breakfast omelette that was cooked like I like. The eggs were firm and there were plenty of ingredients in the middle so I was pleased with my meal. I was however, disappointed in the service as I sat for 10 minutes, maybe more before being greeted and my drink order taken. I'm not sure what was going on at the time but the restaurant had maybe 3 or 4 tables at the time as it was late morning. I'm not sure if I came in during a shift transition or what but the other tables that were seated were getting attention from servers and I began to think I was sat in a closed section. Was not a good experience. Came to grab something to go in between conference sessions. I am a sucker for brussel sprouts so I knew I wanted to try them. I asked the waitress how they were prepared since I am vegetarian. She said she didn't know. I asked her if she could ask someone else. The next person had the same response. I'm not sure how you can have staff work at a restaurant and not have them know basic knowledge about the menu. Another person walks by and says they are vegetarian. So I order to go. The menu says $6 and they are rung up at $7. I note this discrepancy and they said their menus are wrong and every price is accurate in the system. This is very misleading but I'm also not arguing over a dollar, it's just the principal for me. I get the brussel sprouts and lo and behold, they are smothered with bacon. At this point, I'm already on the go and I'm chucked it as a loss. This was a terrible experience due to the lack of customer service and limited knowledge of the staff related to menu items. I don't know that I could say we had a bad experience in anyway, but our party collectively found this place to be thoroughly average. Everyone agreed that their dishes were on the bland side. It really felt like it was done on purpose to appeal to a wider audience. But dishes that should've had some kick or spice were lacking. The atmosphere is quite nice, of course. Our server on this particular evening was subpar, but got the job done. There are simply too many superior options in downtown Louisville for me to want to return here. This is not a fancy place, but the food is good. The seats are comfortable. It's clean and the staff is friendly at what is a reasonable price point for a place inside a "luxury hotel". Can't speak to the service in the restaurant since we only got takeout, but the front counter staff was always helpful and they accommodated each of my wife's special requests without any questions or up charges. The ham and cheese sandwich was outstanding and a good portion with excellent flavor in the meat and the spicy pimento cheese. The pork chop dinner was also quite good. Overall, the quality of the meats I found to be above average. There are certainly better restaurants in Louisville which is a "foodie" kinda town -- however if you're just looking for something convenient of good quality and reasonably affordable this works. read more

Walkers has a great hamburger! Sometimes I just crave a good burger and Walkers is where I go. Everything on the menu is delicious and I highly recommend it if you like fried catfish, fried bologna sandwich, or a really good burger. Great place for lunch and very reasonable. read more

They weren't manning the buffet, not restocking all the things that were out, etc. It was like they didn't k ow a bunch of people would come to Saturday morning breakfast. We wanted to order off menu, but was told buffet only - but people all around us were having their individual orders brought out - no rationale about buffet vs menu. The only good thing was the 2 women running the omlet station. The service was horrible and all they had to do was bring drinks and the check. Our waitress disappeared and we did not get drinks for 15 minutes until we went to the waitress station to ask and even then, they were like here and shoved them at us - didn't say we will bring them right now or anything. We had to do that several times. The next night, I tried to call them to order a pizza to take back to my room - about 8p - you get a business voice mail - they don't even have a number where someone will answer. The broth was watery, the bread was a stale piece of plane wheat bread from a store bought loaf and the cheese was a hard round circle that was chewy and crummy! Service is HORRIBLE! AVOID this place. I arrived at just after 8 pm with about 25 percent of the seats filled. I was seated and for the next 10 minutes watched several servers and the manager stand around, and take care of the other diners. No one looked at me. No one came over to ask about water or offer me a drink. Even if the place was packed I would at least expect someone to acknowledge that I was there. I got up and complained to the manager as I left. I never got the chance to try the food, and based on the service, I never will return. read more

We had our annual friendsmas event here after checking around for a venue. Our reservation was for 6PM and our waiter was Adam. This is a very nice venue that can hold a very large group. The food was delicious. We tried so many dishes between all of us. Everyone enjoyed their meals. The service was slow. Very slow. That's the one thing that was odd since there was really no one n the restaurant but us. There seemed to be plenty of staff, however they just weren't moving fast. I had a weekend stay at the Galt House and decided to book an 11:15a reservation for Walker's Exchange on a Saturday. The restaurant was fairly empty so the reservation wasn't needed. We were seated right away and asked to be put near a window to be more socially distanced from the other guests. Overall this restaurant was our most disappointing spot this weekend. The menu wasn't listed as Walker's Exchange but instead as Jockey's Silks. The ambiance was confusing too - the decor felt very farmhouse while the music playing was blues. It's a large space but not comfortable or warm, almost like a nicer cafeteria. Service was terrible. After the initial order, one visit to drop off the food and another to hand us the ticket. I watched our server spend the majority of her time in the back of the restaurant speaking to her co-workers. Settled for the double stack cheeseburger but with the Walker's sauce on the side, which was a base of thousand island dressing. Fairly boring, and no more of an upgrade than a cookout. Fries were good as well as the coffee. Bottomless coffee - but since our server was rarely available, not really. Several good restaurants in downtown Louisville, including Swizzle on the 25th floor. I would not recommend spending your dollars at Walker's Exchange. ** Side note: directly outside Walker's Exchange is Belvedere area, including a waterfall feature. One of the worst dining experiences I've had. Service was horrendous, food was marginal at best, and the decor was retirement home furniture. Not what I expected from a famous property like the Galt House. A particular disappointment was the so called French Onion Soup. At $8 for a serving I expected a robust soup, with great carmelized onions with a nice slice of baguette on top with melted cheese bubbling over the side of the crock. What I got was a bowl of beef broth, with some plain onions on the bottom, a quarter slice of some kind of cheese (the non-melting kind) sitting atop a small cracker. What a waste of money. The server dropped off all the food at the same time, so we were fighting between our appetizers and main course, trying to eat them while they were somewhat warm. THe place was empty and most of the serviers and management were just standing around chatting and not paying attention to diners. A smart team would have sensed an issue at our table and possibly addressed it. The only time we saw our server was when he took the order and brought us the check. Needless to say, we'll never set foot into any of the restaurants at the Galt House after this experience. read more

I wish I could say I loved this place but the food and the service was only so-so. My sister and I decided to eat here before seeing one of the Broadway shows on a Saturday afternoon. She had been told about a great hamburger they had. We both ordered the hamburger - double stack cheeseburger. It was fine but there was nothing special about it. It isn't anything that would make me go back or recommend it. The menu was very limited with not a lot of variety. Maybe other things are better? I got green beans with my burger and they were fine. My sister said the fries were good. Service was fine. We didn't see a lot of our server but she did a sufficient job. My drink was empty for quite a long time. We went to Walker's Exchange for dinner on Valentine's Day. One issue we had was that we were given paper menus (pictured) that had food and drinks listed. When trying to order drinks from the menu, we were told that the drink portion of the menu is outdated and they brought us a separate smaller drink menu, which also had food listed, which was confusing. Both menus had food and drink listed but one only had food available and one had drinks available only. We heard several tables near us also confused about this. The menus were printed on regular paper, so I don't understand why they didn't just print accurate menus, especially since the menus were worn and stained anyway. When told the dinner specials, our waitress told us they had a T-Bone steak special available. I asked what size, and her response was "pretty big" and shrugged. She never made an effort to go ask and let us know how many ounces it was. My water glass went empty several times throughout the meal. The food was ok, but not great. We waited 30 minutes for our entrees to come out, and it was not busy. I am beginning to understand why. Cocktails were overpriced. Overall would not come here again, would rather stay home and cook a meal. read more

The bonus this place gets is related to the fact that as an OpenTable member I get points. Given this is located at the Galt House, the expectations were set high. Not sure if it's because this is now part of the Wyndham chain that the level of food and service seem to be par for the course. We came for the Thanksgiving brunch. For the cost of the experience, it is quite underwhelming. To share that my first Thanksgiving in Kentucky was celebrated at a Golden Corral provided a much better variety of options for half the price should give you an idea of what a grand disappointment this turned out. Upon our arrival, our server was pleasant but was not very attentive. The buffet line was constantly backed up with only one primary line and one omlette station. All the staff was pleasant and the dessert selections were ample. It is a bit of a surprise that considering this restaurant offers brunch on a regular basis how poor the execution of the set up turned out. Although it was a buffet, it still would have been nice if there was a small table menu to provide a rundown of all that was included. There would have been a possibility of ordering promotional drink selections if any were offered. We saw tables with bottles that were not offered on any of the tables around us. It looked like bottled water, but there wasn't any noticed at the other small tables around us. We were seated at a very tiny table next to a window with an unappealing view. Had there been some attention to details in the decor around us, there might have been a tad bit more of a homey feel. If I were a guest at the hotel, it might have been acceptable as a dining option. The 2nd star rating was the complimentary parking we received. Whether or not this a common occurrence, it did leave us pleased. It is likely this is not anywhere we plan to return to unless given an incentive or we were attending a special event.This would not be a choice to recommend, which is unfortunate as a local business. read more

My husband and I ate both breakfast and dinner here this past Wednesday. The breakfast buffet was AMAZING and had some of the best scrambled eggs that I've ever tasted in my life. The grits and other breakfast food were tasty as well. The hostess in the morning was a very lovely lady as well. For dinner, my husband and I had the blackened seafood penne pasta dish and I have to say that the both of us have never had such an amazingly delicious dish for dinner. Our server for dinner was a very delightful and wonderful fellow and he was a delight to talk to him during our meal. If my husband and I stay at the Galt House again, I am sure that we will definitely eat at this restaurant again, because we enjoyed both of our meals, (both breakfast and dinner) here. Started out bad all together. First of all, they made us make reservations making it seem as if this place was so good and popular that one was needed. We get here and there may be 7 other tables here, and it's New Years eve mind you. After we get sat down, our waiter ignored us for around 10 minutes or more before another staff member had to say something to them, then they finally came up to us. We ordered pretzel sticks for our appetizer and it took 15 minutes for them to come out cold. Let me remind you that it's not packed in here. They aren't slammed and busy. Table is more lopsided than the head of Rocky Dennis. So we get out pretzel sticks and the beer cheese is cold, sticks are luke warm. We order our food, and it comes out 5x faster than our appetizer, and who could have guessed -- our mashed potatoes were cold. Couldn't find our waiter for an extended period of time so the rest of our food got cold as we waited for fresh sides. Was also left without a drink twice as our waiter came to our table and didn't even notice or say anything about needing a refill. Overall I'd never recommend this place to anyone, and I really didn't want to even pay for our food -- but unfortunately I'm not that big of a scum bag. Definitely pass on this place. We had made a reservation prior to the U of L game. When we arrived the computer was down but luckily there were plenty of tables available. The dining area is a little too bright for dinner and almost gives it a cafeteria vibe. The furnishings and decor are nice but it just felt cold and kind of uninviting. This definitely felt like the restaurant where breakfast is served... because it is. It was our server's first day and there was a language barrier. We ordered a Manhattan and a dirty vodka martini up. Our server had difficulty understanding our drink order, specifically the word "up." The Manhattan was fine but my martini had chunks of ice floating in it and was definitely not dirty by any means. It tasted primarily of vermouth. We were seated at 6:10 and still had not received our appetizers or salads by 6:45. At 6:55 we asked another server to send our server over so we could order more drinks. She came from the back quickly after and took our drink order. Second round of drinks was served quickly and this time the martini was indeed dirtier. Our food arrived shortly after 7. The wedge salads were huge - but definitely required an order of more dressing and some black pepper for flavor. Don't be fooled, these are whole heads of baby iceberg, cut in two and would serve two well as a salad course. The shrimp were warm and tasty. They did not come with cocktail sauce as described, but in a soup pot with New Orleans style seasoning. We were able to get cocktail sauce on request. For the money, there were plentiful shrimp and it was perfect to share. The fried green tomatoes were quite good, especially the rémoulade they were served with. There was quite a large portion, too. Overall, the food quality saved this meal. The service was pleasant but we were still 10 minutes late to the game, even though we allowed 2 hours for dinner. Prices were fairly reasonable. Two appetizers, two salad, and four cocktails came out to $85 before tip. I'll definitely give this place another try, just hope service is more prompt. I ordered the Wild Mushroom Orzo, which was also tasty, but I would definitely get the Cajun alfredo if we were lucky enough to go back. The "Pick Your Barrel" whiskey flight was also a steal at just $25. Husband chose Angel's Envy, Elijah Craig, and W.L. Weller, which is virtually impossible to find in Hawaii. I understand that some establishments are having trouble finding employees but that is not the problem here. The breakfast buffet was my aggravation. No fried potatoes no biscuits and rancid fruit. I was told 2 or 3 minutes for biscuits, it was 23 minutes. As for the fried potatoes... never replenished. It's 10:57 we've been here 45 minutes and they close at noon and no freaking potatoes . For $22 per person I don't feel a little ripped off, I feel a lot ripped off. The gravy was good the sausage good.. If I paid $9 I wouldn't be too put off. I don't recommend eating here. read more
