A friend and I were recently staying at Tempo and decided to have dinner upstairs at High Stakes. While warmer weather and time on the rooftop patio would've been lovely, I also enjoyed the current setting. We were sat in a room beautifully decorated for winter. It felt like a cute sky lodge (based on what I've seen on TV--I have never skiied). Tatiana was our server, and she was wonderful. She took great care of us and answered all of our questions. Since we came during happy hour, we started with drinks and with three apps: the buffalo chicken dip, the shisto peppers, and the brussel sprouts. They were all fantastic. Then we ordered burgers and fries, and those were also wonderful! I always want good fries, and those were good ones (and the only pic I took)!!! Both of the drinks I had were great, and I loved the happy hour pricing. The food was good, and Tatiana was wonderful as well. We came for the Christmas pop-up bar and magic show, our waitress said she didn't know what we were talking about.. that was a bit odd, we saw it on our way out. It looked like it wasn't open despite the Facebook event page saying it was. Our service was good throughout the dinner, the magician/mentalist I had seen at a previous Yelp event, he was outstanding once again. He performed at everyone's individual table. The service is commendable, the food is acceptable and the ambience is definitely a breath of fresh air. Good place for drinks and food. They validate parking which otherwise can be a headache in the downtown area. Met a few friends here for an after work kickback event and I was impressed with how nice the staff was when I entered the restaurant! We were greeted and sat at a table and within a few minutes we were greeted by a server. Our server was attentive and anything we asked for was brought to us right away. For food, we decided on the wings & Buffalo chicken dip. Totally forgot to snap a picture but i thought the wings were okay but a bit gummy for my taste and the Buffalo dip was pretty good but I didn't enjoy the chips that came with it! I ordered a specialty cocktail that was curated by the event host and my first drink that came out wasn't good however the young lady who was in charge of the bar at the event decided to re make my drink! The restaurant did have some specials for $3 but it was mostly canned drinks, like vodka waters and high noon which wasn't my vibe for this occasion. I love how gorgeous this restaurant is and the views were epic, we even caught the sunset! If you're looking for beautiful views and great service, I suggest you try this place out! Considering the food, it was ok a little on the bland side for the tomato dish. The fries were very good, and so was the old fashioned bread pudding. The bread was like a giant cinnamon roll, and it was so soft and gooey. I really enjoyed the fantastic decorations and loved how detailed they were. Great spot, fun vibe, and lots of potential long term once it's presumably through some growing pains in its early days. The menu has good variety (both food and cocktails). Some are outright hits (baked potato rolls are a must-try) others need a little something more (pork schnitzel was quite good at the core but needed a sauce of some kind, as the delectable potato puree didn't quite offset some dryness by itself). Similar comment on the cocktails...some true winners (brown butter old fashioned and all of the clever and fun long shots), and some that were a little less so. But, to be clear, worth exploring both menus. Love a rooftop spot, ambience is vibrant (I've only been in cooler months so haven't really gotten the open-air experience). Service is excellent, friendly, attentive, and helpful. Was a little disappointed to see a few chipped dishes--to be clear, nothing dangerous, and the kind of thing you'd see many places, I just don't expect it at a higher-end spot. On the whole, a very nice addition to the burgeoning NuLu scene! read more

First of all park on the street! Even if you get a ticket you'll feel less robbed than we did when we parked in the garage with no signage that states that you were going to get charged the full $42 because no one was on duty even though they have a ticket reader which marked our time (incorrectly because it didn't adjust with the time change) and when you call their customer service from the ticket booth they won't let you out until you pay the full fee and then they give you a number to call to discuss your "issue" with the office. I'll let you know how that goes... If you're going for the view, It's just ok. You're a block off Nulu on Market so you're missing the fun. no people watching and uninteresting buildings and limited sunset views. But if you just want a drink on a nice day and you don't mind yelling at each other over a television, there are couches and an open airy outdoor space. But if you're going for the food, don't. The online menus are incorrect. They changed the menu to an extremely limited very generic bar food menu. (See updated ones I posted) Super disappointing food. Guac and salsa were Costco-like. Chips stale. Shrimp cocktail super generic. And not very fresh. Deviled eggs were small and topped with fake bacon. This was March madness week and the tv had speakers far from the tv. So we couldn't (and didn't want to) watch but had no choice but to yell at each other over the sounds of basketball. When the ONE table who was watching it left, would have been nice to have it turned down. They didn't. I heard the brunches were nice and the food is a lot better. After this experience, I'm not willing to find out. Our waitress was kind and attentive and explained the menu was changed months ago. Too bad it was not mentioned online or here on Yelp. TL;DR: For a place that's seems so nice and has such great potential for being an amazing outdoor space it was just so disappointing to just have limited appetizers that weren't even good. I guess if you're just going to get drunk or you're already high, as apparently several patrons were because we could smell the marijuana in their vapes. Then maybe this food seems edible. And getting ripped off by the parking garage on the way out really topped off a less than stellar evening. read more

I want to start by saying how fabulous Colleen was. She made us all feel very welcome and gave great suggestions. I will say the blistered tomatoes and ricotta was probably my favorite thing of all. I think the rest of the food was just so so but the beautiful view really helped create a beautiful ambiance. This is a solid 4.5 stars for me. The food was good, very good date night vibe. The service was very good. Prices are a little high and it isn't fast to even get drinks. However...it is a very good, higher end place. All that being said. VERY impressed with management. I ordered the pork chop and it came out undercooked. I don't mind medium rare pork...but this was fleshy and raw. They immediately took it back. The manager brought me out an order of fries while I waited for the refire...the chef brought out the new pork chop with apologies and grace. They offered a free dessert and I think they may have even taken a drink off our tab. THAT is the way to be customer focused. I cannot speak highly enough about those efforts to recognize the error...own it...and make it right! That is how to earn returning customers. Great job! read more

Wow! Ventured down to high stakes for a friends birthday and had a great experience. First off, our server Colleen was THE BOMB. All the best recommendations, super attentive, and open and honest and accepting of our very rowdy group. Some of the best service we've had in awhile! High Stakes is new and still working out their menu, but those loaded potato rolls and the corn bubblers were the most interesting and tasty food I've had in awhile! Those are MUST ORDER. I absolutely love this spot in Louisville! I came here on a Friday and made reservations to sit outside. The outside patio is divine! Perfect views! The service was outstanding! From the warm hostess to the server. Everyone made me feel so welcomed and truly cared about our experience. We ordered the potato bread and buffalo chicken dip for appetizers and I loved them both. I truly enjoyed the dip the most though. I ordered a Caesar salad and it was good for the most part. We also ordered the tequila based drink and it was absolutely delicious. The ambiance was perfect! What a gem! Located on the 6th floor of the Tempo by Hilton hotel is where they are located. I didn't even know this hotel was there but it's just a block over from the heart of NuLu and is the perfect spot for an evening, sunset dinner on the rooftop. I didn't get much of a view of the inside of the restaurant since our goal was outside dining but the outdoor spot is perfect with the nice tall glass walls, mounted tvs, dining tables, lounging couches, and built in heaters ready for use when needed. My friends and I shared dinner in order to get a taste of numerous menu items: baked potato roll, deviled eggs, corn riblets, fries, sweet smoky spicy carrots, "More than a Wedge" wedge salad, lobster scampi Bucatini, and bread pudding. I'm so glad we decided to share because I enjoyed having a sample of numerous things for my first visit. I wasn't a fan of the baked potato roll but my friends liked it. I thought the Bucatini was light and tasty. There was something special about the fries that we just devoured them (dusted with sugar and something else, I think... and served with aioli). The wedge was fun with all the fixin's "inside" presented with the waiter cutting through it, letting the bacon and tomatoes pour onto the plate. And the corn riblets were amazing! The steak frites weren't available on our visit. Staff was super friendly. We seemingly had 2 waiters visiting throughout the night and there were a few little mishaps (such as brining a drink that we already had, delivering food that wasn't meant for our table, etc) but overall, they were good and took care of us. We loved our dinner here tonight! I don't know that I've ever enjoyed a hotel meal so much. My husband had the salmon: beautifully prepared and nicely garnished. He was not hugely hungry and the portion was perfect. I grazed: I had the beef tartare and the whipped ricotta with blistered tomatoes, with the browned butter old fashioned. I'm an accomplished home cook, and I had trouble identifying some of the specific components on my plates. Fortunately, our excellent server, Lilly, was happy to help me! The first time I came here, everything was amazing, so when my boyfriend surprised me with a date night, I was really excited. But it went downhill fast. We requested to sit outside, but the host said there was no room--which was fine--but she seemed distracted and took a while to seat us. I ordered a s'mores drink that took forever to come out and was half full with mostly ice. When we politely said something, our server got defensive and said adding more would cost extra, so we just sent it back. My burger was great, just like last time, but my boyfriend's MEDIUM WELL steak came out rare. The manager was super kind and offered to fix it, even bringing us complimentary fries, but the second steak was still almost rare. Overall, just a disappointing experience. read more

I went to this restaurant for valentine's day dinner with my boyfriend. We wanted to try something new and this restaurant APPEARED to be nice on open table. First, we were sat in the outdoor patio in February and there was Christmas decor everywhere, even a tree on the table. No one was in this restaurant and they had a violinist playing inside in the dining area where we couldn't even see him, literally playing to 3 tables.I then ordered a gin cocktail and the bar tender took 30 min to make a gin and pineapple. We didn't even eat our dinner because the food was not even edible. The Cesar salad was good though. We were served forks with our soup as well. Lastly, I ordered a cosmo, and had a hair in my drink. This was the worst dining experience I think I have ever had. I would not recommend coming here if you are hungry. read more

Nice romantic place to go to for a special dinner. We went for our 29th anniversary, and we enjoyed our evening. We were greeted right away by the hostesses, and they quickly seated us inside by the bar area. They have a very cool rooftop area but it was raining so that area was closed when we went. Our server was super nice and gave us some recommendations from the menu. We started with a bottle of wine and the baked potato rolls , which were outstanding! Definitely a must try! For dinner, I got the Grilled Mushroom which was a mushroom bowl mix with succotash, bbq sauce, and slaw. It was a very unique dish, but it was very good and filling! My husband got the pork schnitzel with a potato purée. He said that it was good and he ate all of it. Since this is a new restaurant they are trying new dishes with customers so we got to try a dessert that they might add to the menu. It was a toasted marshmallow fruit and nut dessert. My husband and I went there last night on a rare date, since we were kid free. The service and food were great. We sat outside under the roof covered area. It was so loud we couldn't talk. Midway through our meal a 10 person party was sat next to us and they screamed the whole time and didn't even have a meal. My ears actually hurt when we left. Went last night(2/13/26) for our 25th Valentine's day. The 12 ounce New York Strip steaks were overcooked, stringy, and chewy. They were absolutely AWFUL. We knew we were in trouble because we had to saw through the charred edges. The waitress asked if we wanted a box because we left so much steak on our plates. My friends and I go to new different restaurants for our birthdays and I had brought up this restaurant. A new rooftop dining experience! We came in early for a 10pm rsvp. We were sat immediately upon walking in. It seemed busy when we looked around, it was just a conference meeting party and they were wrapping up by the time we got our table. The service wasn't great, our server checked in with us little to none throughout the dinner, other than the initial greeting, when we talked the most about the menu. Our drinks took 10-15 minutes to arrive, their Espresso Martini's are very well made, meanwhile our appetizers took 20-30 minutes, and our main took a while as well. When our main entrees came out they weren't that hot at all. My friend(birthday girl) didn't enjoy her Brown Butter and Honey Glazed Salmon($32), the description of the brown butter and glaze made it seem like it was going to be a sweeter taste but the taste and look of the dish wasn't what she thought or as appealing. Another friend ordered the Steak Frites($41), and the steak wasn't hot either. I ordered the Hat Trick Burger($25), which didn't really impress me to make up for the rest of the service, but it filled me up pretty well. The Chef Special: Artichoke Dip($13) was OK and the bread paired with it was really hard/stale-like, the Deviled Eggs($9) were okay, slightly tasty but overall bland. For dessert they had a bread pudding that the server raved about but unfortunately again it just didn't taste as good as described.
