I always enjoy CQ, for the view and the boat watching! Beautiful spot on the river to dine. Service is always pretty slow. Don't come if you are in a hurry. The food is generally good. Today I had a fish sandwich. It was a good piece of fish and I like their breading. It was very dry though. No tartar sauce, no coleslaw came with it, which it was supposed to have. It takes a long time to get waited on and then a long time to wait to get the check. I would have had another drink but was afraid that would be another hour of waiting. I always come for the view though!

CQ hit it out of the park today. Clearly short of staff, they still managed timely service. We had 6 for lunch and they still served up hot food and brought it to the table in a single service. (Something I've learned to appreciate). The kids liked their pizza and chicken fingers. The grownups ran the gamut. Two fresh salads (spinach and Greek) topped with chili lime grilled shrimp. A Harrods burger grilled to medium as requested, and a cod sandwich on rye. All perfectly prepared. The fries were a thicker cut, but crispy on the outside while soft inside. They were so good, my grandson wouldn't share. (Santa's gonna remember that). Chips & queso were just average, but the peel it yourself shrimp were crisp and perfectly seasoned. The kitchen was cooking today and the servers were hustling. It's great when both sides of service mesh so well. Kudos to Captain Quarters.

The view... the view... the view! We visited on a Friday night. Live music and boat watching. We only had drinks so I can't speak to the food. There is plenty of lawn seating.. grab an Adirondack chair and a beverage and watch the sunset. Our stay was short but we really enjoyed the atmosphere.

this place is not worth the money. side salad is $7 and it's nothing but a bowl of lettuce. the fried green tomatoes were horrible. the tomato fell out of the batter. my food along with my son's food was cold. the seafood trio was not worth $32. my wife liked her hot brown but has had much better at ganders. our guest liked her salmon salad. I couldn't get a water refill for 20 minutes. our waiter asked us for a dessert order while we were still eating our main course. we did receive a free birthday dessert of derby pie which was excellent. overall, the meal was not worth the money. way over priced. the Brussel sprouts were decent and the onion rings were ok.

The food and atmosphere were fantastic. This kitchen staff knows what they are doing back there and they get 5stars! Unfortunately, the wait staff was not as good. They were OK, but most of them were young teenagers who did not seem very enthusiastic about their summer job. Otherwise this is a fantastic establishment and I highly recommend it.

Overall lovely meal with beautiful outdoor settting. Gets super super crowded on evenings with nice weather. Plenty of overflow parking.

I went with a group of friends to catch a local band we love and try something new during this visit to Captains Quarters. I always enjoyed them supporting local artists and bands while keeping the evening filled with music and good food. I try something different every time I visit and I kept hearing about the amazing CQ Classic. It had a little fun kick between the banana peppers and loved sharing it with my best friend. We chose the cauliflower crust and it was still crispy. Also the last two bands SoundStation and Southside Groove were amazing. I highly recommend checking them out on Facebook and their next shows.

Another winter visit to Captains Quarters. Three of us this time. We love the water views, whether the ocean, gulf, or river. It was a beautiful day....sunny with river traffic. A very quiet and enjoyable lunch...what beautiful accommodations this restaurant has. SUNNY greeted us at the door to help us in!! Our waitress IZZY was VERY accommodating and helpful. Their menu is very flexible. We opted for the fish sandwich, choice of fried or broiled. I like mine broiled with a little blackening and it came out beautifully prepared. Fries and slaw come with this choice, but onion rings can be switched in. Just so very nice to sometimes sit in a more quiet atmosphere and enjoy the meal. Across the hall is a very active bar. Lots of customers there. So you have your choice. On the way out, MIKE spoke to me as to their reservation protocol. Very reasonable to ask for a 24 hr notice to cancel!! Thank you for your very nice staff. We will see u in a few more days!! Bringing other friends!!! See below, the current menu.

The vibes and ambiance is there, but the food isn't the best in the world. Like it's not bad but it could probs be better. Everything I've gotten was decent. Last time I got Caesar salad with salmon and it was pretty dang good. But nothing beats the feeling of getting a lil tipsy with your friends and listening to good music in the summertime on the river!

Great food and beautiful views. Service could have been better as all of the water glasses at the table went empty and we had to ask for them to be refilled but nothing major. The food was a little pricey but the views made up for it. I did notice that there was a line out the door for the women's bathroom both times I went. Not sure if that was the only restroom but for a restaurant of that size, it should have more than 3 stalls. Overall such a cool spot and loved the option to sit outside and watch the sunset after dinner.

You don't go there for the food, but the tuna takaki happens to be really good there. So are the onion rings. The service is also good. Most of the other dishes are meh or not so great. But WOW on the view! And when there's a good band there like Soul Circus, make a reservation for dinner and stay to dance!

Solid spot. I recently had a chance to take my mom around the city(she doesn't visit often). I wanted to take her somewhere unique but also safe for a sometimes boring taste palette. I decided on Capt Quarters. The food is good. I'm not sure if I'd rave about it but it was good. I think when visiting Capt Quarters, you're going for the atmosphere and views. There are few places along the river from the west to east end of Louisville and there are just a few places to enjoy a meal next to the river on the Indiana side. I would rank Capt Quarters up near the top in all the places you can sit and enjoy food by the river. We each chose an app to share and then ordered an entree. Green chile wontons - We both agreed that we could've ordered 4 orders of these and been completely satisfied with a lunchtime delicious snack. This is definitely a must-order here. Spinach queso and chips - This app also comes with 2 breadsticks. The dip was good. I don't order a lot of spinach things anymore... oxalate foods and kidney stones... Stay away from me! I still had some of it this time. I kind of wish there was an option to add more breadsticks to this dish. Mom ordered one of the salads. I didn't try any of it although she tried to push some of it on me. I COULDN'T BELIEVE the serving size. That could've very easily been the largest salad I've ever seen/been served. We had to take half of it with us. Nashville Hot Catfish Sandwich - I eat hot chicken all the time but I was curious about the catfish. It was good but I didn't even eat most of the bun it came on. Honestly, it doesn't need to be a sandwich. It's delicious without it. Side note: This was the server's favorite and she asked if I wanted honey mustard for it. I actually eat all of my hot chicken with honey mustard so it worked out perfectly! The sandwich also comes with fries. The fries were a bit disappointing. They weren't overly salty(which is good) because I'd rather them not be. With that, I like being able to taste the potato. These fries didn't have much of a taste... at all. At least not on this day. Overall, the place is good! It's definitely great for a lunchtime to take your parent to. I could see it being an ideal place to spend an evening sipping on whatever you sip and sitting outside watching the water go by.

The location along the river makes for a picturesque backdrop while dining at this restaurant. While meeting a friend for lunch during a weekday, even with reservations, we still had to wait approx. 15 minutes to be seated. Our server, though polite, was moving a bit slower than I had anticipated in a half-full restaurant: Most guests were seated along the windows and on the patio on this usually warm late autumn day. The Caesar salad was average. The fried green tomatoes were a treat since they're not widely available on menus, those there were still average, at best. You'll come for the menu, but the view is the real treat. If you can be satisfied off of a view, then you'll be fine.

In my defense, I think it's because we have so many great local restaurants! Suffice to say, this place will be on my top 10 of places to recommend, especially in the fish category as well as scenic spots for dining ambience. We sat outside on the lower deck overlooking the dock. The only drawback was the intermittent almost nauseating smell of exhaust from idling boats. This was tolerable for us since it was thankfully only occasional and brief. Parking was also a bit of a hassle, but patience will be rewarded. Our party of 4 was seated within 15 minutes of arrival for a Saturday 5 PM dining, which is fast for anywhere in this town for this time slot. We also never felt rushed during our visit, which is also a great compliment considering how busy and popular this place happens to be. Our server was absolutely fantastic. Sorry that I don't recall her name, only that she wore a hat that referred to her dog (Max?). She was able to make great recommendations and also shared some insider tips about the queso dip. Food and drink service was efficient and timely. We ordered the queso dip, fried fish, broiled fish, grilled shrimp, rice, steamed broccoli, onion rings, baked potato, and salads. Consensus was that all of our choices were delicious and prepared very well. Looking forward to future visits, especially during nice weather to be able to fully enjoy the water views during dining.

I had the shrimp dinner ($22) it came with about 12 large fried shrimp and two sides. It was very good the shrimp, coleslaw and cocktail sauce all tasted amazing. Everyone else got the fish sandwich entree ($18) and it was massive and so crispy but not greasy which was nice. It has a nice community scene and great bar area. The patio overlooking the river would be nice to enjoy in the spring/summer months. My one take away was it does have some improvements that need made, the women restroom the handicapped stall lock was broken and in turn not usable if anyone may need it. But for food and service it is a top contender for great fish in Louisville!

If you're a fan of chicken fried chicken with gravy, this was a large portion. We tried the fried green tomatoes, broccoli slaw, mashed potatoes, and green beans as sides. The tomatoes came with a sauce and it had a kick of heat. We weren't big fans of the green beans, mainly because they took the flavor of the broth they'd been cooked in. The menu is huge. We noted we'd gotten a lot of fried items; however, The Goose offers more variety to avoid that. The space is large and can accommodate groups. The parking lot is shared with other businesses and has several spots.
