Based on the advice of a knowledgeable fire ranger, friends and I stopped here for lunch last week. First a little about the garden/patio area behind the burger stand: It's a garden. It's an oasis. In an otherwise unremarkable locale on the eastern side of the Sierras, it's a welcome sight for the hungry,the thirsty, the ones badly in need of sustenance. For those far from home and wanting some comforting surroundings while they refuel and rest before continuing on their journeys, it's a go-to spot to stretch out on green gass in the shade and gaze upon flowers and fountains bubbling happily away. Now, about the ~food~... I had the Ortega burger, a large root beer, and a smll order of fries. Even though I was pretty hungry, I was hard put to finish everything included in my order. The food tasted ~wonderful~. The burgers are cooked to order, so you'll have to wait a bit. No pre-cooked burgers waiting in a warmer for indeterminate times. The fries were tasty, too. Even though I'd ordered the small size, the order was not skimpy. There's a covered patio with tables, a shaded grassy lawn area with tables and lots of open grass area where picnic cloths may be laid out (ppicnic cloths are provided.) [Out front, there's a bucket of water with a sqeegee so that weary travelerscan scrub the bugs and dirt from their windshields. It's a nice, complementary touch. ] We ate lunch, then went out on a 3 day backpacking trip. No indigestion from old grease or any other troubles. Our burgers sat happily in our guts digesting away, providing sustenance for our strenuous activity. Great pit stop! They have a bunch shake options. We got a small malt Cinnamon Toast Crunch shake and it tasted just like it! There were chunks of toast in it, nice and thick and creamy. And they have a backyard area that has a bunch of seating and trees. read more

On the drive from Tahoe to Yosemite, we were looking for a local place to eat and asked the toll collector/car inspector for a recommendation. She highly recommended Walker Burger. Ok, well, it's about 10:30 in the morning, but sure, why not? By the time we slowly made it over there and got our food it was about 11. So, about lunch time for us central standard timers. I passed through town on my way from Amador wine country and the Alabama Hills via Highway 395. It was about the only place opened at lunch time. You order via a window and pick up via another window. I had a hamburger and fries, classic. It was pretty decent. Especially the fries which were very crispy. read more

This place is adorable, and a huge hit. We went on a Wednesday around 12:45 and there were tons of people ordering. It's cheap, good food, and has great outdoor seating in a little garden area. The onion rings are not too greasy, in ample servings. Yesterdays Impossible Burger was so-so, drowned in BBQ sauce so much that I couldn't really taste the "meat". But what irks me is the time it takes to get your food. I've visited Walker Burger 5 or 6 times, and whether it's busy or not so, it takes 15+ minutes to get your food. Yesterday it took 25 minutes! Was incredibly pleasantly surprised by this place! We were passing by on the way to Tahoe and needed a place to eat and stopped in after not seeing much else for a while. And we're so glad we did! Atmosphere was pleasant, food was GREAT. I got the crispy chicken sandwich (which was crispy chicken strips in a sandwich but I don't even care it was the perfect crispiness and slightly juicy. The wife and I decided to road trip to Reno. Rather than north on 99. We detoured and went east on 108 and north on 395. We planned our stop methodically. While driving 395 we were admiring the beautiful high desert of California. The winding West Walker River. With a number of parks and campsites along the way. And then the sign, Walker 13 miles. Their it is! Their it is! I circle around the driveway and park right up front being sure not to hit the plants. Lol We stand in a line of people, about 6 deep. This is a well oiled machine and ran as such. The line flew by. The wife grabs a booth. And I order with the the polite gentlemen who was more than happy to take my order. I find the wife in the garden. I sat and we took in the birdhouses, the grassy area. The gazebo type of booths. Our number is called. I return to the table with our tray of food. 2 cheese burgers 1 french frie and 2 drinks. The burger looks like you think it should, AMAZING!! The bun was the vessel that held together greatness. The patty, the cheese, and all the fixins. The fries are equally amazing. Crispy and salted just right. Yep it's a great place with great food and great people. read more

Then they asked if I wanted to tip the crew and was forced to pay 15% for service that isn't provided. There's no inside seating. We were told we had to try this place, passing through on the way to Reno. The burgers were good, but not monumentally so. I had the regular burger (which they say is for kids but was plenty for me) and husband had the Monster which had bbq sauce, onion rings, bacon, two patties and cheese. It was huge. We also each had a small shake. They were very small and it was over $10 for just the two shakes. Lunch topped out at about $30, which seemed pricey for what we got. My husband and I stopped by this place on our 8 hour drive home and man oh man, I can't wait to travel back just to eat here again! The food was absolutely delicious. I got the bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions & jalapeños, fries and fried pickles. Everything was so fresh. Usually you expect greasy fried pickles (or anything fried) and it was not greasy at all. I don't know how they do it but the food was cooked to PERFECTION. They also have so many drink options. We got the cane cola and it was so good to sip on while eating. The service was also so nice and refreshing to have people who were just happy to talk to you and give great service. A big thank you to the walker burger staff, you guys are incredible and made the experience so worth it. Another great part about this place is the garden eating area. There are very few places in the world that make me feel like a kid again...Walker Burger is one of those. During my youth we spent many weekends fishing the Walker River and staying in the area. It was always a treat to end the day with a burger and shake at Walker Burger. Fast forward 20 years later and they are still kicking out the same great food and memories. The burgers and shakes are delicious. They keep the grounds very clean and fun, which makes it nice to just kick back and picnic outside in the shade.
