Gotta love Waldo's! The food has always been great in our estimation. The Seafood Stack tastes wonderful, however I think they should add a little more rice to the dish, as my husband left still a bit hungry yesterday. I'm always so happy that they have some gluten free options....especially the pasta. It always seems to be the same waitress and she answers your questions almost before you get them out of your mouth. She's professional and knows her stuff.... never had to go and ask. The ambiance is very good but not so fancy that you don't feel a coziness there. A bonus is that they offer 2 hours of free parking in the market underground lot while you dine....and you can enter the restaurant right from the parking garage without going outside. And don't forget you can get your $100 of gift cards for $80 at Costco. read more

Great ambiance although I'm old enough that the dim lighting makes it hard to read the menu. Professional wait staff make a huge difference and simply help make the experience better! Don't be put off by the dated decor as the food is excellent. Beautiful presentation, excellent ingredients from the local market and very good service. The beet salad, Caesar salad, salmon and mushroom crêpes were all exceptional. Puddings tried were the mango (fresh) sorbet and the chocolate mousse. 100% recommend. Very disappointed. Ordered the seafood stack, which in the end totalled $47. I really liked the sauce, but received a small piece of salmon and 3 pieces of shrimp. Also did not get to choose a side, as it was automatically served with rice and seasonal vegetables. Friends were unable to finish their meal as they were so underwhelmed. Did not receive a quality meal considering the high prices. Service was amazing. Staff were kind and attentive! However, many other restaurants in London that surpass this one. read more

It also came out less than warm which was a bit strange. Came here for a date night on a Saturday at 6:30PM. Waldo's is in a relatively small space, but all the foliage makes for an upscale yet casual atmosphere. Our waiter was very attentive throughout the evening. I ordered the pork tenderloin medallions (with wild mushroom and basil sauce), while my boyfriend ordered the grilled ahi tuna (with wasabi and ginger sauce). Each entree comes with a side of rice and asparagus. The rice was very salty, but I'm used to plain white rice, so that's more of a personal bias. I didn't taste as much basil as I expected in my sauce, but the tenderloin was cooked to a great texture. Definitely one of the higher-end restaurants here in London, but worth a visit! read more

Warning to diners at Waldo's. Visited Waldo's July 21st 2023 party of four. Everything was fine until We received the bill. I did not notice this until I got home and looked at the bill. I was charged 3% Charge because I paid by Credit Card. This amount was compounded by 13% HST and 20% Gratuity. Our server did not advise us that We would be charged if We paid by Credit Card, there were not signs to tell us that and it was not stated on the menu. It was simply applied to my bill. I should have had the opportunity to pay cash or debit. read more

I chose this restaurant for my birthday dinner because I wanted a restaurant that had an intimate and casual atmosphere as well as a lot of vegetarian options. It was also in a convenient location as it is in the Covent Garden Market building downtown. Although this restaurant is on the pricier side, there is a $10 off $35 coupon on their website if you're a new customer and if you join their mobile club. They also had birthday incentives, and I got a $15 off $45 coupon. The best thing was that everyone at the table got to use their coupons, as I was worried that it'd be one coupon per table. I was impressed with the service here as the bill splitting got complicated since there were 10 of us. I also got the server to take several photos for us and she was pretty patient, for the most part. I also liked that I was able to get half-orders of my appetizer, another testament to the good service here. I liked the fresh calamari as it was flavourful and the grilled NY striploin steak was tender, and it was topped with butter that was tasty but not too salty. For dessert, I had the creme brulee. It was a generous portion and was plated very nicely. I'd recommend this restaurant if you're looking for a restaurant unique to London in the downtown area, if you need a lot of vegetarian options, and if you're looking for a cosy and intimate environment. read more

Mark and staff are doing a fantastic job during the COVID-19 pandemic. We just had an amazing Mother's Day meal prepared by them. Starter Caesar salad (so good) Salmon, pork medallions and beef tenderloin w asparagus, rice, potatoes and corn on the cob. Pick up only but it was hot and ready for pick up at the time we selected. Despite the rating, I have to say that this place has exceptional service. SO and I came in for Londonlicious (maybe that was the problem?). There was water and bread waiting at our table which was great. The bread is flaky and served with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. We orderd a couple of drinks - raspberry martini and a kir royale. Both were good, definitely to recommend. We started with a Caesar salad and the brie wrapped in phyllo. The Caesar was average? it was served with a single parmesan crisp and a single pancetta square, and there was one crouton in the salad. I mean, overall okay. The brie was excellent. Came with some fruit sauce....delicious! For entrees, we ordered the perch and pasta bar. SO's pasta was delicious and great portion size, but I thought maybe it was missing some of the items he had on his list. I smelled ham/bacon, but didn't see or taste any so that was a bit perplexing. I ordered the perch but got the chicken instead, which was flavourless....when the server realized the mistake, he was very apologetic and told me that he will get me a side of the perch rightaway (the sides for the chicken and perch were the same, apparently). The sides were average - rice and some asparagus. When the perch came out, it looked small. To be fair, I got to keep the chicken and the fish so I was definitely full, but if I had received the fish the first time around, I would have been sorely disappointed. I found the chicken and sides to be lacking flavour. The fish really just tasted like lemon. A lot of lemon. Dessert was mango sorbet and one crème caramel. The sorbet was refreshing. The crème caramel is good - if you like it. It turns out I don't like crème caramel, haha. But the portion and presentation was very good. So, overall, very courteous service and nice ambiance, but the food was a bit boring. However, if you go, I recommend the brie wrapped in phyllo, and the pasta bar (you get to choose the toppings and sauce). read more

This is a hidden gem in the Covenant Market Garden. I have had wine at the bar and ordered food to go. I had the lake perch lightly fried with wild rice and seasonal veggies. It was the best fried perch I've ever had. The coating was light and there was enough there. The rice and veggies were the perfect amount. I was pleasantly surprised! My husband had the steak and extra veggies. The staff were super accommodating with no starch and having it ready at a certain time. One of these days I will sit down and enjoy the food and ambiance. Returned here for lunch a few weeks back and it gets an extra star! I ordered the chicken pot pie and it was fantastic. Big chunks of chicken and mushroom underneath a light and flaky crust. We ate in February 2020 (precovid) but I noticed all the great reviews in a search, and had to shine light on my least favourite fine dining establishment in London.lol After 2 horrible experiences, we were dragged back because good couple friends wanted to go. Timing worked so we went.. we regretted. In the past I could've said the service was good, but even that didn't hold up this time! Very rude waitress. Bartender seemed snooty? As for dining: Food wasn't hot, pasta mushy and overcooked, chicken dry, do they microwave veggies was a real question?.. and we all commented on the blandness of the meal etc.(our one friend had to ask for more cheese a third time just to make it salvageable..) But honestly, some people might like it there if not picky, or want simple meals. **If cooked properly(and I'm sure sometimes it is), it would just be like a normal home cooked meal. But then why dine there? If you go out for fine dining, your meal should be something special, or hard to recreate even.. but not there.. But even if they nailed the simplistic food, (chicken, beef, salmon), it's still boring if you're a foodie. In conclusion, I've had 3 bad experiences with bad messed up food, and either way, the menu nor food is exceptional or interesting if they got it right. Go to the Keg if you like simple food you can count on (nothing wrong with that), but definitely don't go here if you want something different. read more

This restaurant never disappoints. Intimate, upscale yet casual atmosphere. Our waiter was so friendly and helpful with the menu. My husband and I split a wild mushroom and havarti soup for app which was a special of the night and it was delicious and full of flavour. We also shared the braised beef and goat cheese poutine which was very tasty. For the main I had the butternut squash ravioli. It was very fresh and rich and I loved it. My husband had duck confit which was good but slightly dry although it was a duck breast rather than the dark meat. Went here last week for bottle of wine and some apps. Over all it was a nice feeling warm and comforting. We ordered burchetta, fresh calamari, and goat cheese salad. Server was very nice and spilt our orders onto separate plates rather then sharing the same dish. We ordered a house red wine which complimented our food very well. Pros - location, food, server Cons - a man in the kitchen over n over again no hair net or cooksware made it alittle concerning. I was told he's the owner.. for me that's kind of dirty and gives allot of chance for contaminating food. read more

We booked Waldo's for Valentine's Day and took care to confirm in advance that the regular menu was available. When we arrived: surprise! there was only their special menu. It was grossly over-priced and, without exaggeration, the worst restaurant meal we have ever had. Service was rushed, bringing courses when we were barely halfway through the current one, and one server especially was not very polite. We were trying to eat our mains when the staff starting loudly moving tables and cleaning. The cleaning sprays were visible in the air, landing on our food and table, and the noise was so loud and distracting we couldn't even have a conversation. Romantic ambiance... It took a long time to get the servers' attention during and after their cleaning frenzy. The quality of the food was sub-par and my main was disgusting. The beef had an off-taste and the paprika potatoes were rock hard. The shrimp starter had not been rinsed and dried properly. The dessert was a joke (1 biscotti, macaron, a couple of chocolate covered strawberries). The tuna steak was tough and tasteless. Our night out was ruined by the awful experience. To top it all off, we both suffered from food poisoning later that night. We are so disappointed when we had heard such good things about Waldo's. read more

I used to come for business meetings for lunch and loved it everytime... Then I only came for dinners and I was normally disappointed. Ranging from 3 of 4 things I wanted on the menu were not available that day to food undercooked . I was reluctant to go there for a business meeting but I chose the best salad and was pleasantly surprised everything about was absolutely perfect . I asked the server who made salads that day.... Almost every experience we have had at Waldo's has been outstanding. We have only ever had one negative experience and they went completely above and beyond to make it right. The food and service and both incredible. I have always loved that they have a completely separate vegetarian menu. Recently decided to try Waldo's on King after passing by several times on the way to the market. They had a large vegetarian menu which was a great start. It was quite busy when we arrived. We didn't have a reservation but we were able to snag the last table. The table was so full of settings, glasses, olive, vinegar etc etc that we thought that maybe the table hadn't been cleared yet! But I guess they just pre-set everything before hand to save time, which I can understand, but at the same time it was almost unappealing. They provide bread to eat while you wait for your food, but it was also pre-set. It was weird to sit down and then eat bread that was waiting there before you even talk to your server. Our server was very nice and helpul, but she must have been really busy as we never had our drinks refilled. The food was pretty good, I tried the butternut squash ravioli with cream sauce. It was a bit smaller portion than I would have liked but it was really good. The only thing that I didnt enjoy was a sort of citrus oil that was added as I suppose a garnish which didn't go with the cream sauce at all. The food arrived super quickly and was very hot and fresh, which was great considering how busy they were. Overall I would say it was a good place, I'd try it again for sure! read more

I was very impressed with the staff, outstanding service especially Buck, who knew everyone's name, and dinner order. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, looking to host a special occasion. We walked in to Waldo's through convenient a door in the parking garage below and were blown away by the delightful ambiance, friendly service, and amazing food inside. The owner was in while we were there, and he was friendly the whole time, explaining all the different dishes to us and taking time to stop and chat with us as well! We started off with a variety of appetizers, our favorites being the grilled calamari and the tuna. Both were flavorful, yet not too heavy before our meal. I then followed that with the soup of the day, a roasted vegetable and cream soup, which was rich and savory in the best way. For my entree, I had the pan-seared perch with rice and snap peas. The fish was beautifully cooked and not over-seasoned (a problem I've come across too many times at other places). As for the sides, the rice was good, but the peas were where it's at. They were fresh and crunchy and delicious! Once we finished our entrees, we had the creme brûlée, the chocolate mousse, and the creme caramel to share across the table. All three were delicious in their own right, but the winner was the thick and rich chocolate mousse. Throughout all courses, our server checked in on us and we never had an empty glass. Long story short, great friendly service, beautiful ambiance, and fantastic food! read more

I went on a Saturday evening without reservation, the staff was just amazing, friendly and pro's. I eat a duck confit with an incredibly good piece of foie gras. My partner took the mussels and a salad. The presentation of the plates are great. The wine selection is small but delicious and appropriate for the meals. A live singer was there to put some ambiance and next time I'm going in London. I will without any doubt return to this wonderful place. read more

The Seafood Stack tasted like it just got warmed up from a freeze-dried pouch and the sauce did not complement it at all. The steak is served with a side of fries - not appropriate at all for the price tag. The Pesto chicken was tasty, but nothing special, and certainly not worth $21. I am giving Waldo the benefit of the doubt here because it was an extremely busy night, but I do not see myself giving this a second chance. read more

We recently dined at Waldos for a family dinner. I will cut to the chase, I was less than impressed with the food. The waiter, while very friendly, brought us the wrong bottle of wine, and to top it off, charged us for a bottle that was 20$ more than the one we ordered. The app I ordered was a caesar salad and was very overdresses. My main course was the gnocchi, and again, I was not overly impressed. The tomato sauce, while I'm sure was home made, had very little substance and was generally tasteless. Overall, I would not recommend this place, especially at the price points of the meals. read more
