Everything is delicious. The bread was served with olive oils and balsamic vinegar. I never thought the vinegar taste sweet and I was not ashamed to ask for more bread. The portions are served in large portions. I was not able to finished my dessert and brought it in my room. The staff is very nice and she explained every food that was served. Definitely coming back to this restaurant when am in the area. And will recommend to all my friends. read more

Truly a 5 star experience for me and my wife. The rack of lamb was simply the best I have ever had...and I been eating lamb as an adult for almost fifty years. The spinach salad that preceded it was non-traditional with a bit of avocado, hazelnuts and, of course, a touch of warm bacon dressing. My wife's steak was not the best I have ever eaten, but worthy of a 4 star rating. The ambiance and service was outstanding. For breakfast the next morning I had the healthy choice breakfast table...just another wonderful meal with a wide variety of "sampler" sized portions. To recap: two great meals in a beautiful B&B. It's worth driving out of the way to experience this place. read more

Just tried the latest menu. I enjoyed the beet salad a lot. I also had the duck confit sandwich, which was very good - I enjoyed the pickled onions and hint of sweetness from some fruit in there as well. I also prefer the new style of bread being served before the meal. Always a joy to bring our business associates here for lunch. I wish there was a fresh fish option this time. I recently dined here for the second time for a business dinner, and this time around, I was very impressed! My last experience had not been great overall given the service, the menu, as well as the parking. However, on this occasion, our server was absolutely fantastic and very attentive. She provided helpful recommendations on menu choices, and was able to accommodate special dietary restrictions. For the appetizer I had the shrimp cocktail, which was nicely presented in a martini glass. However, it stated that the shrimp cocktail would be presented with a 'spicy' cocktail sauce, which was not the case at all; in fact, it was just a basic tomato sauce. I was quite impressed by the entree which was a 5 spice rack of lamb with fennel roasted arrancini, sorrel pesto and a mint raita. It was incredible!!! All of the flavours blended together quite nicely, and it left me wanting more!! The wine selections were chosen for us by the Inn given that it was a corporate dinner, although they did prepare unique cocktails for us including a pineapple and berry cocktail. A few downsides to the Inn: Lack of parking and difficult parking; if you don't arrive early and aren't able to park at the front, I would not suggest parking along the side or around back given the very narrow parking spots, and one-way direction. I would also suggest better temperature regulation within the restaurant as it was freezing!! Overall, we were quite impressed by the service and food and will be returning! read more

The restaurant at the Idlewyld Inn is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner plus afternoon tea on weekends. Meals are served in the main dining room, the turret room or in the courtyard. All the settings are quite lovely. It's on the formal side; guests will want to dress appropriately. I've only been for dinner, which is pricey. Appetizers start at $9 for a salad and go up to $14. Mains off the regular menu range from $21 for pasta ribbons to $34 for the rack of lamb. Each time that I've visited at least one of my guests has ordered the specials, which have all been a hit. The oatmeal stuffed chicken found fans with different diners on separate occasions. The wine list is the right size and they have interesting beer choices. Service is efficient, by which I mean that they listen to the guest, take questions to the kitchen, then only appear sporadically. I'm not explaining this very well, but I like how they pop in and out appropriately without hovering. Avenue is a good choice for couples looking for a romantic evening, two couples out for dinner or business entertaining. Not appropriate for children, at least at dinner. read more

Went during one of the pandemic reopening phases where only outdoor dining was available. Enjoyed the breakfast in the courtyard. Server was friendly. Reasonable pricing for the breakfast and good portions. The ground are well kept and beautiful with lush greenery. Coffee and tea are reasonably priced too. Quiet, beautiful place to enjoy a meal. Ambiance 5. Food -4. Got me to one star. Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, was grossly overlooked. So much that any semblance of sauces had evaporated or seared to the food. The pictures will tell the tale: we tried to eat the food but had to give up. And to the older gentleman who helped serve us? Sir, having attitude doesn't make people believe that you know what you're doing. Such a shame really: we came last year after the change in ownership and it was exceptional. Here in London as a quick get-away following an event in Toronto. Staying here at the historic Idelwyld Inn, and the food looked good so we booked a table. We were not disappointed. Three of us had the special BBQ three course dinner; the fourth of us had two appetizers (salad and scallops). The BBQ special is available Wednesday and Thursday, and includes a limited buffet of salads, fruit, and dessert, plus an entre served from the kitchen. My Cornish hen was delicious. The others had salmon and pork - and all were pleased with their choices. read more

OMG had the worse lunch there today(Sept 4, 2018) The chef tried to pass off cherry tomatoes and old cheese as the heirloom tomato and buffalo milk cheese appetiser-really! Instead of crediting it completely-they just discounted me 75%.. My guest had the duck breast which was more like duck wing knuckles full of tough sinuee meat...pretty sad.. Obvious this restaurant is having quality product and cooking issues-WILL NEVER GO BACK which is a shame because it is a nice setting.. read more

Great meal start to finish. Had the Caesar salad, dry rub striploin, and chocolate mousse. All of them cooked perfectly and very tasty. Highly recommended for full dinner as portions are good and the combination of flavours were great. Would definitely come back again to try different entrees or just repeat the menu! read more

Yes it's open again. I was ecstatic to dine at Avenue again. Last time I had one of my most memorable meals. Unfortunately they have a new chef and have shed they're infamous cocktail list. The food was okay. My steak was lacking in any character or excitement. My scallops were...well simple scallops. My husbands spinach salad was lovely. Fantastic bread. You won't have a bad experience here. It's no longer a special experience. The free buffet in the morning was embarrassingly inadequate. As usual our room was perfect and the staff very eager to help. My heart is broken over the restaurant though. read more

Salmon and hollandaise sauce were too salty, but overall the benny was okay. French toast was literally two pieces of bland toast with one strawberry and cream; not at all worth $14. Loved the server. Also, the soup of the day, sounds pedestrian, but was vegetable soup with chicken and was terrific (kind of like a curry, with some punch). Husband had the Caesar salad with a pesto Caesar; he was impressed, as well. He ordered the filet and I ordered the house-made tagliatelle pasta and had them add scallops. The filet was ordered medium and came pretty much black and blue. We sent it back and the outside was cooked medium, but the inside was still raw. As the waitress was gathering the plates, she noticed that the piece still on the plate was very underdone; when she came with the check she said that she had taken the filet off the bill (without any discussion -- so, kudos to her.). My wife and I stared our anniversary dinner by going to another local restaurant for dinner... It was the first time in 30 years that we both were so disappointed with what we received that we got up and walked out! We started to drive north on Wellington and saw the big Idlewyld Inn sign and decided to try it for dinner. What a great find! We were greated at the door and seated, Ed our server was amazing... We mentioned that we had just left another restaurant and our reasons, mentioned that it was our anniversary and that we were there for redemption. Ed quickly asked if we would like something to cleanse the palate of the crappy food we tried at the last restaurant, and brought us a glass of champagne to start. Needless to say, the rest of the evening and the food was amazing! For not much more than we would have paid at the previous restaurant, we enjoyed a fantastic dinner, comfortable surroundings, and light but enjoyable conversation with Ed. First, we went to the Spa for some massages and after we enjoyed a fantastic meal at the restaurant for dinner. I have eaten here twice - once for brunch and once for lunch. The brunch (January 2015) was very good, but the lunch (March 21, 2015) was poor. My chicken vol au vent was served cool, my mother's quiche was burned on the bottom, my dad and brother had sliders that they described as flavorless. Service was also very slow. The atmosphere is lovely - but that was all that our lunch had going for it last week. I don't know if a different chef was on duty or something, but it was a very disappointing experience. read more

I feel like writing an update based on reflection. I said there was nothing wrong with the meal but in reality for $33, I expect far better than dry salmon and couscous that is so densely compacted in to chunks that it requires laborious chewing. It was really awful. By comparison, a couple of days later I paid $19 for a gorgeous succulent piece of salmon on a bed curried lentils so delicious I actually couldn't stop eating them at a resto-bar on College Street in Toronto. I guess if you're okay with a 35% mark-up for the privilege of eating mediocre food in attractive surroundings, then by all means knock yourself out. read more
