Beers and food combo. This is easily in the top 3 breweries I have ever been too! Let's start with the food Appetizers you must try are the Bavarian pretzel and bring a crowd so you can get the charcuterie board!! adding the beer cheese for three dollars is definitely worth it. It's pretzels, huge and they're made fresh and you definitely could tell. Most of the time I like to share so I like to do the wurst platter, please try the curry wurst. It's the best one ,the jalapeño cheddar is also a crowd favorite. Beers: every time you come in they have their classic he advising beers and they have a bunch of seasonal beers. Right now, I'm a big fan of the Dunkel, definitely a winter style beer. I'm a big fan of their milled wine. It's hot on tap in the winter. In summertime, I'm a big fan of the Kolsch! It's really hard to go wrong with anything! I think it brings his brewery full circle is that you're in the historic house and it's a very cool setting. It's a great place to meet a bunch of people eat some food and have some beers. Have some great conversation. The staff is very attentive and very knowledgeable. It's a very simple. You get some food have a few beers and that's what woodburning stove in the winter. It's very cabin rustic vibes. Overall, this is one of my favorite places to go if you haven't been there before you'll understand why when you try it.

Love their tree!!

Are you looking for German food? A quaint little spot? A place that feels like you are being transported to somewhere other than Saint Paul? This is your place!! It's nestled in between other houses, so if you don't pay attention, you could miss it! This is street parking and make sure you watch for signs so you don't get a ticket! There is no reservation option, so be prepared to possibly wait, as this is not a large place. With that being said, not plan on staying super long either. This is not the place to just sit after your meal and chat. There will be others waiting for your table! Plan on a max of 60-85mins. The service here was good. They treated you like you were a regular, which added to the cozy feeling of this place! We sat at the bar. My boyfriend got some beer and he loved it! The bread and butter was very simple but perfectly done! The sausages here are delish! The walleye tasted fresh and the veggies were perfectly cooked! Overall, this was a very fun little spot to find in Saint Paul and definitely with the trip!

We stopped in on a beautiful day for lunch and afternoon drink. The building and area are beautiful in a more historic part of St. Paul. The service was prompt and good. Staff was friendly and got us a great seat on the patio. The patio was beautiful and well kept. The beer was good and unique to the brewery food was great as well with a German based menu.

Great service, amazing vibes, I love this place (except that I always spend a pretty penny when I go here). I love the food here. The platter is great for trying a variety of things and I highly recommend sharing. Four brats doesn't seem like a lot of food but it really it. Definitely feeds 3-4 people. Also a great spot to just have a beer, bring your pet (patio), and chill.

Fun, classic German beer spot with great service! In a small, warm, cozy space, they do table service with classic German food and beers. They have some wines as well, along with some non alcoholic options. The beer selection was a bit limited, and one beer was also tapped out. The food was super authentic, and our service was quick. It's got a dark bar vibe, so in the later evening probably not super family friendly, but we sat in a more private dining area and were offered a high chair, so we felt comfortable with a quiet baby. If she fussed, we likely would have stepped out to preserve the atmosphere - something to keep in mind! Great spot if you're craving a cozy beer bar.

History, charm, ambiance - this place has it all. We've been here many times and it is a local gem to say the least. This particular visit was for the German New Years toast! The gorgeous tree, fire pits a-blazing, folks bundled up and enjoying the outdoors, all to bring in 2026 with a festive toast! The chilled beers and mulled wine were flowing and the restaurant was also buzzing with good eats and warm seats! This crew is always friendly and welcoming.

Great beer, good food, amazing patio, all with a little history to the building. First, it is a brewery so I feel like I should mention the beer. I love the German styled beers! The Dunkel is fantastic! Beautiful dark lager that is malty and toasty without being too heavy. I also tried the Waldmann Pilsner and it didn't disappoint. This Pilsner is full of flavor and delicious. Food was really good. Both the Tangy Beet Salad with chicken and the House Schnitzel was very good. Both plates were generous portions. The Greek Yogurt and Feta were a good touch to the salad. The Schnitzel sat on a generous portion of Spatzle. The Spetzle is so good that it is almost the star of this dish. I love the historic charm to this place. The patio is beautiful and check out their music schedule I would love to watch an artist perform out on the patio. All of this with great service too!

Loved visiting here! Their lager is one of my favorites -- super crisp and refreshing. The food is good but pretty basic -- more like beer-friendly snacks (sausages, chips, etc.) rather than full meals. The vibe is so cute, especially in the winter! Cozy, inviting, and definitely a great spot for a casual date night. I'll be back for the beer and atmosphere for sure!

I've been to Waldmann twice now and had great experiences both times! Although the indoor seating is somewhat small, we were able to get tables for 3-5 people right away both times. The indoor seating is quaint and showcases its history. The outdoor patio is beautiful and quiet, with large picnic tables and smaller tables. The beer is good and the food is great! We recently got "Amos's Lunch" and added a pretzel. It was a great charcuterie spread. They didn't skimp on the meats and cheeses- it was enough for 5 to share! I am not usually a fish person, but I LOVED the smoked trout that came with it. The staff were super friendly. The one down side is it's mainly street parking, but that won't stop me from coming back!

Good beer, great food.

Olde building, intimate yet spacious seating, nice service, and the food was fulfilling/generous.

The second floor, like the rest of the building is so cozy!

If you like beer you have to go here! One of the oldest buildings in St. Paul let alone one of the oldest breweries. These people really know beer. So well crafted, so unique. You might as well be in Germany The food is good too and the ambience is just so unique. A real treasure!!

Hubby and I were visiting from California and our friends took us there to explore a different cuisine and wow we love it all, my favorite was the wurst platter with the cabbage so good. The beer was very tasty. The place has so much history was constructed in 1857. The Waldmann stay true to their traditions if you are in Minnesota you must try. The service was wonderful, a very polite gentleman explaining every question we had and always with a smile on his face. The ambiance is perfect we were outside, they have a nice patio with cute flowers to look around. The only thing has no parking you need to look for one or paid for parking closer to the restaurant. But it's worth it..

One of our favorite places in St. Paul. Old-time brewery vibe with great beers and outdoor seating area. Personally I always get the lager as it is one of the better ones I've had. My wife gets one of the special NA soda options and is always happy. Honestly, she'd go here weekly if she could. Food is great. Italian beef and burger are excellent but we've had entrees before and have loved everything we've gotten. We always get the trout dip for appetizer. Excellent and the veggies with it stand in well for a salad. Service is always top-notch and professional. They had a band playing this night and we sat upstairs and it was pretty awesome to have the music in the background. We'll be back 100 times or more!

Upstairs.

An accordionist went from table to table playing classics like The Beer Barrel Polka and Edelweiss as well as some unexpected classic rock faves from the likes of Tom Petty, Queen and others. When they played happy birthday the entire restaurant sang along and enthusiastically chanted "Ziggy zaggy ziggy zaggy". It was a super fun time and my mother in law was happy. Most of us ordered one of the schnitzels. The portions are quite large. My wife and I split the jagerschnitzel. I don't really like to eat meat or fried foods, but there weren't a lot of other options. (Mob rule usually determines our restaurant choices when we go out with our in-laws). I felt it was kind of chewy and the mushroom sauce over salted and sadly lacking in actual mushrooms. That said, everyone else, including my wife, loved their food. My brother-in-law, raved about the roast beef with potatoes; however, he's not exactly a foodie. Bland, salty, overcooked foods are kind of his thing. My mother-in-law had the "pork knuckles". I don't know what exactly constitutes a pork knuckle, but the portion quite large. More like a pork leg, I'd say. She complained that it was way too much food, but somehow managed to put a pretty big dent in it, still saving enough for leftovers the next day. Fortunately, I was the only judgey food snob at our table and everyone else was more than happy with what they ordered. To drink, they had the usual German beers and wine. We ordered the Gluhwein, a spicy mulled red wine that is served hot. Very traditional and really good. I would definitely recommend it. If you want to experience fun, German night out, aren't concerned about your cardiovascular health and enjoy a hearty meat and potatoes type of meal, The Gasthaus Bavarian Hunter is worth a visit.

We had a party of ten, celebrating a 90"th birthday, they helped us celebrate with fun music. They don't provide anything special for the birthday person. The food is in the expensive side for what you get, it's bland at best. They also have a significant credit card surcharge, well beyond a normal credit card surcharge, for any restaurant we've been to. Thankfully we came up with the cash to save that outrageous "tax".

I love that place and their products. Well let's get onto the food. I was brave and had the Smoked Liverwurst. Hadn't had it for 30 years. Since I went fishing with my grandfather. Boy it was awesome and brought back some memories. The owner gave me large slices of bread so I could make a sandwich. The mustard and fresh onions made it! My two colleagues were craving hot dogs, so they went with the Yoerg Sandwich. It's the flagship sandwich. A quartier pound dog with German cheese and a pickle spear. It was huge and tasty to say the least. It was only $9.95. Great price for lunch these days. We also had to share a pretzel that came with cheese and mustard. This has earned a spot on our lunch rotation.

Lots of deep oak woodwork, a beautiful bar with gorgeous stain glass windows at the back of the bar by the register. The lights glistened off of the giant hanging glass pitchers and beer steins. The bartender and waitress that both helped me were dolls. Had great suggestions on the menu, attentive, and talkative. I started with a potato pancake. It was delicious. Very authentic interior design; the bar area looked like many of the pubs we'd recently been to in German and Austria. The bartender came over quickly and got my glass of halbtrocken (half-sweet) Riesling. If you're only familiar with the American-style syrup they market as Riesling, you need to check out some German wines. "Trocken" is dry, "halbtrocken" is half-sweet, "FineHerb" (a relatively new designation) means off-dry and "süß" or suss, is sweet. On to the potato pancake appetizer. It arrived quickly, nice and hot, and served with both applesauce and sour cream. However, it wasn't the coarsely shredded potatoes I am used to getting in Germany; more of a fine shred, which gave it a different mouth-feel. From there, on to the beef rouladen. It takes a little longer but also came out hot, with sides of red cabbage, a roll, and a ton of spaetzle. Tasty, though the gravy was a little saltier than I'd have preferred. And if I'd eaten all that starch, I'd still be sleeping it off in one of their booths. Their menu also includes sausage samplers and other traditional items. Why only a three? Service and food were both good but not great. I thought the food was a little pricey: $26 for ONE rouladen with sides, and $6 for a single potato pancake. Three-and-a-half stars would be more fair but Yelp! doesn't give half stars. Finally (and I'm not really deducting points for this), no one on the staff that I encountered spoke ANY German. Even my basic, "Guten tag!" when sidling up to the bar was met with a blank stare. So... authentic? The atmosphere: definitely. The food: mostly. Final verdict: OK, leaning toward good.
