I went to a discussion with the Tibetan Monks last night at the Rime Buddhist Center…read more First of all street parking. I can't stand street parking but I arrived early enough to avoid parallel parking of any kind. There is a residential street to the side and again, get there early enough. From the time I bought an ancient Buddhist text from a bookstore when I was 24, to now, I've read several of the Buddhist studies and meditate daily. I had an idea what I was walking into..as I've visited the other Buddhist temple near the Plaza, It didn't resonate with me. I've attended conferences or other events. Enter the monk event. I had to go, I couldn't miss it. I thought Rime was in Westport, it's not. It's right off of I-70 and I-35.That's a plus/plus cause of the ease of getting there from my house. There were several things going on, and lucky for me, I got there early to be introduced to the monk who was teaching the class. I found a comfortable group of people who were kind, welcoming and wonderfully grounded. They were alot like me. (yes, sometimes I'm grounded as well). The room I was in is beautiful. There are pillows for floor postures but also chairs. The alter is stunning. There's rooms upstairs which I didn't visit. They have classes throughout the week, a retreat coming up and a weekly Sunday service. On Tuesday night, they have a half hour service. They have meditation classes also. With all their events and classes, I'm excited to discover a place such as Rime.

A great community. If you're interested in Buddhism you should go. I believe in the dream. We're…read moretrying to build a new temple in Kansas City.

Ambiance! Ahhh it's so good. If you love REAL plants galore, hamsas, music, natural light, and wonderful instructors, COME HERE! 2. Super clean 3. Hard wood floors 4. Local kombucha stocked in the fridge. OmTree has their own blend! And it is delicious! 5. Convenient scan pass for your keychain that is actually really cute 6. Really cute yoga clothes! 7. Wonderful schedule 8. Kundalini on Sundays!!!! 9. Awesome schedule This yoga studio is not intimidating at all. Everyone is really helpful and welcoming. I highly recommend this studio for beginners and advanced yogis alike! I wish there was an OmTreeShala in Dallas! I would go every day :)

While I was in grad school at KU, a friend and I decided to do a tour of yoga studios in Lawrence…read moreby doing the introductory packages at all the studios. Om Tree was the first studio we tried and we never left. Until I moved away, that is. Since I moved away I have tried four different yoga studios where I am living now and none of them even come close to competing with Om Tree. I haven't been to Om Tree since the summer of 2013 (but have been meaning to write a review since then) but the things I loved about it then were: 1) Amazing teachers. They were all awesome and provided assistance with poses, excellent adjustments, and often used the Sanskrit words for the poses, which I really appreciated. 2) Great music during the classes. This is a big deal to me and one of the things that's disappointing about my current studio is that many of the teachers don't use music at all. 3) Lovely studio. I liked the mirrors so I could check my alignment, the natural light coming in through the windows, the plants, the scent, everything. 4) Great variety of classes and times. 5) Student discount! OmTree was the first place I practiced yoga regularly, and that practice helped me get through my second year of grad school which coincided with planning a wedding with my long-distance fiance. It was exactly what I needed at that time. I think of OmTree often and it's probably one of the top 5 reasons I wish I still lived in Lawrence!
