We were here, April 2024. It was a sudden decision to fly in so we had to stay in a place we don't usually stay in. It was a little further from the middle of Waikiki (closer to Diamond Head, Kapiolani Park) but overall was okay. We had a car and I don't remember what we paid but less than a lot of places. Place was undergoing some rehab so we had that to contend with down in the garage area. No problem finding a parking space, although area a little tight. Room was clean, (tower1) and had partial ocean view, waikiki beach. The Sunday we were there, we awoke to a man hanging from the building, a potential suicide. It ended okay but we were limited as to which way we could go when we left the building. All in all an okay stay. Staff very friendly. Check in was done via Key Code without problems. read more

Booked an Air Bnb here, as they offered free parking and we opted with getting a rental so we didn't want to pay for each day (like most nearby hotels require). We did get a discounted rate since the amenities on the 6th floor were under construction (no jacuzzi/pool/sauna access). Luckily we were able to stay on the 36th floor (there's a total of 38) so we had amazing views from our balcony. The lobby area looks like a hotel and has a nearby little waterfall area that adds to the aesthetic. I enjoyed my stay here as I wasn't looking for any over the top amenities. We walked every day for food since we had endless options to choose from. The beach is within a 10 min walk as well so really you don't need a car if you stay here. They even have trolley services that will take you to different spots. Overall, I'd recommend staying here for the convenience of everything being so walkable but also the views were immaculate read more

Snack bar not available closed for good. Security on duty on pool deck. Room furniture is a little dated. Drapes are stained and could be replaced. Parking not included and is $43 per day. On this trip, everything was brand new, appliances, furniture, linens, and some beach accessories were still wrapped in plastic. From all the comments in the Facebook groups and discussion forums about accommodations in Hawaii, if you book your room at the Waikiki Banyan through Aston Hotel Management, expect to pay $30 daily for parking and $25 daily resort fees. So, $55 plus taxes daily will be added to your hotel bill at checkout. Also, you get whatever room is available in their hotel pool so not necessarily the unit in their photos. Booking through AirBnB, FREE parking is included, no resort fees and you get the unit exactly what you see in their listing photos. You get to read feedback about that unit and owner as well. I've had the unfortunate experience of staying in this hulking old dungeon of a hotel for a month (Feb. 2021) via the the vacation company "Darmic." I guess I should have seen the writing on the walls (before the demolished them) when the manager warned me that she herself had not been paid in quite some time. To be fair, the ad I responded to offered the place at a discount due to possible "dust, noise, water shut offs and other reduced amenities possible at various times." This light description did not begin to describe the chaos and persecution that was about unleashed upon me, a young professional trying to lead a quiet life of work and surf. The place is quite literally falling apart and the staff who haunt the ancient hallways have adopted a cool attitude of aloofness and disregard. The elevators often take nearly 10 minutes to deliver you to your destination. One of the hot tubs featured in their marketing was closed, while the other one was full of a tepid liquid resembling urine. The tennis courts are in a state of disrepair and unusable, men's sauna padlocked shut, with nothing but shrugs from the onsite management. The front desk staff and security are rude and annoyed at any interaction that distract them from.... The security team seem barely conscious. My entreaties about getting things fixed were met with a shrug at best, or a spiteful smirk at worst. At one point, when my toilet stopped working altogether and the aging plunger crumbled under the yolk of age and stress, security, which I was told is in charge of such matters" informed me "that's your problem, not mine." The elevators were supposedly being repaired at night, but during the day the constantly freeze resulting in long waits to navigate the rambling old 1970s hulk. Longtime residents told me of the glory days, and sadly recounted the degradation and destruction of what was once a destination in Waikiki. There is a very loud speaker system in the room that cannot be turned off. This seemed to be platform of self expression for the hotels beleaguered employees, giving voice to their own frustration and world weariness. Often (more than 5 times) an announcement would blast into the room instructing me to evacuate immediately or risk annihilation. Only much later, or not at all there would be a follow up announcement that it had been just a drill. In each case that announcement came AFTER I had sprinted down 31 levels to the ground floor. I asked "why" when this kept happening. Nobody cared. On my last day, I was in a rush to leave for all of the above and below reasons and made the mistake of leaving an expensive medicine in a drawer. The cleaning staff did me the favor of taking a picture of it ... they sent me the picture of it, but reproved me for leaving calling it a "syringe" when it was just a dropper or medicine. No one care. I saved the construction for the end, since hopefully you are are reading this years later and it will not apply. For 7-8 hours a day there was hard drilling going on seemingly in both apartments adjacent to mine as well as the hallway which was being demolished and covered in plastic. Workers, who were actually some of the buildings more cheerful denizens, entered my apartment at will, with no warning, to do things like demolish walls, remove toilets, or mysteriously make measurements. Imagine have your teeth drilled for 8 hours a day. The hallways are also being demolished outside my door. Again, I was warned of "dust, noise, water shut offs and other reduced amenities possible at various times," however this apartment should never have been rented out. It was inhabitable. Beware! If you want to see entropy in action (things fall apart, the center does not hold, mere anarchy is loosed upon the world etc.,) stay at the Banyan. Otherwise, BEWARE. read more

To describe this property as dated would be high praise for this creepy dungeon. Walking into this property feels like stepping back in time. The hallways are long creepy caverns with severely worn carpet, doors and paint that must be many decades old. The entire building smells weird. The units don't have central HVAC, they have very noisy window units. The unit I rented for a 4 night stay was dirty and extremely worn. The elevators take FOREVER. The neighborhood was very sketchy; I did not feel safe walking out of the building. Another reviewer described the area as a "San Francisco vibe" and that's spot on. I have over two million air miles so I'm pretty well travelled and have been all over the world. I've spent countless nights in rented accommodations and until checking into the Banyan could honestly say I'd only refused to stay in a hotel twice. Now I can say that I have left a property immediately after checking in three times, because I walked right back out of the Waikiki Banyan. The only good thing I can say about the place is that it has fantastic views, but there is no view that could get me to stay in a place like this. It was so tired and dirty that I couldn't stand to be there. It grossed me out to walk down the hall of the building or sit on the furniture. This place was so bad that I never even unpacked. I put everything right back in the car after I walked into the unit and found someplace else to stay. I had a non refundable reservation for four nights at Waikiki Banyan and I walked away from all the money I spent. It was that bad. I'm not someone that expects a five star resort, in fact I deliberately steered away from the big Waikiki Beach resorts on Oahu, but this is a compromise that I think a lot of people will not be able to make. Haven't been here for a long time. I looked forward to our stay, but was disappointed. We weren't informed of upfront payment at reservation. The front desk lead was rude and argumentative. Our room was outdated and worn, missing a stove leg. We had a small 30-inch tv and a smelly bed. No barbecue was allowed for safety reasons, though it was sunny. This was our first time in Honolulu. We stayed on the 18th floor of Tower 1. The inside of the building was soooo outdated and dirty. Inside our room looked better; had a couple of things that didn't work properly, but was ok for the most part. The doors and hallway were dirty and very old looking like something out of a ghetto horror movie. One washer one dryer on the floor so had to wait & take turns. Parking was free, but the spacing and clearance of the parking garage was horrific. I would never book here again. It's like the San Francisco of Hawaii. Only pro is it was a short walk to the beach. The whole dirty SF city vibe was not for me. Even the little convenience store was outdated. This whole area gave off third world country vibes. If that's your thing then go for it. This place was pretty gnarly. I think our room was under renovations. There was a hole in the front door where the keyless entry had been replaced, the outlets wouldn't hold electrical plugs, and there is no cleaning service with this. The unit had a kitchen, but whoever had stayed here before had put the dishes back dirty, with like a little food on them still. Also, it didn't have a lot of kitchen amenities. I bought kitchen scissors and left them there for the next person to use. The part about staying here that disturbed me was how many homeless would just come into the building. I saw a woman smoking crack in the parking structure from my balcony. Another homeless woman came on the elevator to the parking garage with her shopping cart full of crap. The Waikiki Banyan is a two-tower residential condominium complex located about 2 blocks from the beach next to a Hilton and Hyatt. The two towers are both nearly 40 stories tall so the units on the upper floors offer some breathtaking views, especially the ones on in Tower 1 facing toward Diamond Head. The complex is a bit dated, having been built in the 1970s, but there have been upgrades and renovations since then. The complex also has a multi-level parking garage underneath and a pool and jacuzzis. The garage is poorly designed with tandem spaces and many dead end areas with drive aisles that are so narrow you have to back out. But parking is at a premium in Waikiki, especially this close to the beach. My wife and I rented unit 3411 on the 34th floor of Tower 1. The view was amazing. We were able to watch the sunrise over the mountains. We had a perfect view of Diamond Head and the ocean. Additionally we were close enough to the zoo to see elephants from our window and wake up to the sound of monkey noises. While this particular unit was very dated, it was amazingly economical. Couple that with the view and the included parking (which can cost $20-30 a day at hotels) and this rental was a no-brainer. While we rented from an owner through VRBO.com, you could also rent through Aston who has about two hundred units they rent in the building, as well. For the location and price, an upper floor unit at the Waikiki Banyan is an excellent option to consider instead of the many expensive hotels nearby. read more

Reasonable accommodation for price. Free parking was included in our rental. Do not get any vehicle taller than a Jeep. They will not fit in the parking garage. The building is located 1 block away from the beach. The beach area is very kid friendly. There is a pool and hot tub on the 6th floor, both are outdoor. Very clean and well maintained. Units are on a case by case basis on update and amenities. Elevators are fast, there are 3-4 for each tower. There is coin operated laundry units on each floor. They look like they can take credit card payments via an app, but I just brought quarters. read more

I would not stay here, the same amount of money can be spent at a nicer hotel. I think the only thing cleaned in the rooms are the bed and maybe the bathroom . We had to switch rooms because the first room we were getting bug bites. Also there were multiple fire alarms that went off for no reason. There was one real fire alarm because a woman left on her stove, so everyone had to wait downstairs for over an hour. Then the race to the elevators was insane. But the staff is great, very accomodating. Nice view of waikiki. read more

It's confusing and disappointing and a let down. Whether it's named sweetwater, Waikiki banyon, Hawaiian sun holidays. Today I had an eventful personal day to say the least, so by 10pm I'm already tired asleep. After 11pm I hear a disturbing startling half ass message about taking the stairs and not to use the elevator. I didn't know they had intercoms like that in the rooms screaming messages, but I know they try to hide the fact they have a ROACH PROBLEM. Now I'm up and awake and a little off edge and so I use the bathroom, when I'm done, I immediately hear an alarm noise through the intercom. (Which is located in the bathroom!) Now I'm pissed because I have to walk down 20 flights knowing if this was real I would be dead. So I sit on the bed trying not to freak out and a couple minutes later a repeated haunting message saying there is no issue comes on ... but actually, it became an issue. I'm not a great sleeper and I have to wake up at 530am Sunday. What the f*** are you going to do about that? The answer is nothing because of this laid back culture y'all think us travelers must fall into. This reminded me of the that bomb scare that happened in 2018. Honestly, someone should be fired for causing this panic but they probably be promoted instead. So for that, I'll say F*** you! read more

My best friend and I had a wonderful time this past week at the Banyan! Location, location, location! We could walk to all of the delicious restaurants and the beach within minutes without even having to drive! Beautiful views from our balcony (10th floor) and a secured parking spot was an added bonus! The kitchen was clean and stocked with plenty of eatery, utensils and cookware that made it simple to make some meals when needed. We enjoyed the WiFi and television when we wanted to unwind in the evenings with a cup of coffee and/or tea that was also provided to us at the Banyan! The bathroom provided us with sufficient towels and nice clean sheets to lay our heads down at night...we will definitely be returning! Thankyou again for a wonderful experience! Lianne read more

I will start with something positive. Location is great and the staff are friendly and helpful. The unit we were presented for our stay was on the 35 floor, great view. The up keep in this unit is lacking. Appears to be original carpet from the 70's along with Decore and furniture. Went to get a mug out of the cupboard and there was a lipstick mark on the rim. Went to use blender for a smoothie.....blades were broken and bottom was rusted and would not work. The whisk in the drawer was rusted. The coffee maker was very old, but did make coffee. The deck furniture was rusted and left rust stains on our clothes. The blackout curtains were full of holes and patched with duct tape. what you view online may not be what you get. Doesn't appear to be a quality standard in the rental pool. read more

Wow just wow. Elevators got stuck, lines for the elevator are long. Hallways are half painted and covered in plastic but stayed there for a week and no one was even working on them. I have been at the Waikiki Banyan for approximately seven days and I was going to wait until I checked out to do my review but I think I can safely do my review now. Pros: there is a full kitchen in most rooms I believe at least the room that I am in there is a full refrigerator kitchen cabinets and things to cook with. Cons: this is a resort and there is no gym honestly that is the only con that I can come up with as far as amenities go. I think the parking here is very sufficient for the location I also think the location of the hotel itself is pretty wonderful as you are with in walking distance to Waikiki Beach very easily can you access most any restaurant and or shops that are on the Waikiki strip. The room I am in has a wonderful view that I will be posting a picture of as well. Last night was a Monday and we were graced with a wonderful firework show on the Waikiki Beach that I literally have front row seats to on my balcony I am on the 27th floor. I do think that this hotel is a very dated but I also think that it is a very good location for a family as far as trying to come to Waikiki and save a few dollars with using the amenities in the kitchen. read more

To be honest I wouldn't even give them one star if it wasn't required. The water shut down for hours due to technical difficulties. They have no room service. The security guards yell at the wrong people and don't apologize. The construction or renovation workers walk in on you without knocking on the hotel door. There is stains on the carpet. The room stinks and there is no head boards. Sheets have stains the kitchen is a mess they don't clean before you come. The balcony is falling apart. The bathtub walls are yellow. I've stayed at the Banyan many times and have found it to be a great value for the price. The location is wonderful being a short distance from Kuhio Beach and near major bus lines. Parking is free. I believe that the complex is doing some major upgrades, which will only add to the experience. I plan on staying again in early Fall and am happily looking forward to my stay. read more

This place was pretty much the worst place I have ever stayed at. We get to the hotel. The front desk people wasn't friendly or helpful. We wanted to park our s.u.v in the Parking structure. They told us the height clearance was 6'0" we had a chevy Tahoe so they told us we had to look for street parking. Good luck!! Because Waikiki street parking is crazy unless you want to park 5blocks down kuhio ave to park at diamond public parking!! Then when I finally found parking on the other street. I walked through the parking structure I saw parking stalls that said oversized vehicles so I asked the parking attendant if I could park there and he said no because it's for some of the employees that have vehicles that is oversized but there was about 4 stalls open. I would figured they would accommodate guest who's staying on their property but I guess not!! We get out of the elevator on the 16th floor and there was weird musty smell in the hall way. Get to our room the room didn't have that smell but more of an old smell but it was manageable. The carpet definitely needs to be changed and the beds was all warned out and horrible to lay on. If you have back problems I wouldn't recommend to sleep on the beds. We went to spend the day at the pool. Make sure you don't go down to the pool to swim at 8am when the pool opens. Because at 8am the pool is only for people who swims laps and does water aerobic till 9am. And the pool security is no joke. I got to the pool at 8:50am And there was a older lady in the pool doing exercises and on the other side of the pool was another lady swimming with her daughter who seemed to be around 2yrs old. The pool security told the mom she and her daughter had to get out of the pool because recreational swimming wasn't until 9am mind you it was 8:50am and only had 1 person doing exercises in the pool. Then daughter started to cry because they had to get out of the pool!! I thought that was just ridiculous 10 mins REALLY and only 1 person in the pool who was just floating around kicking her legs. Then the pool started to get more people who was bringing their kids to swim and the rules at the pool is strictly enforced they have cameras set up at the pool and the pool security would watch the guest and when they see you breaking the rules they would come out and enforce it. There's no jumping into the pool no piggy backing,no water wrestling no horse playing and absolutely no donut floaters even for infants. If the security speaks to you twice. The third time they will tell you. You would have to leave the pool and your pool privileges will be revoked!! What a way to spend your vacation!! JUST A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE!!! The only upside to this hotel was the A/c was cold in the room and the kitchen had a icebox,microwave and stove That's the only thing good about this hotel!! The building is literally falling apart. I can't believe how this building has fallen apart. I was staying at the Waikiki Banyan since 2004 to 2019 with no problems what so ever. I used to tell everyone to stay there. But to my shock the AOAO fired all the security, housekeeping and most of the maintenance. They kept the pool man Richard who I was happy to see and some other maintenance people but the hardworking housekeepers and tough as nails security were replaced for the cheapest contract workers available. Its so sad how the place looks and works. It was really the best place to stay in the 2000 - 2019 but once they fired all the security and housekeepers crime and trash are rampant. Everything looks 3rd world and it is really sad how far this place has fallen. I won't recommend this place anymore and if I was a visitor I would not go there. Security is bad, the old timers who kept us safe are long gone. The housekeepers who worked tirelessly to keep the place clean are long gone. While there are some oldtime maintenance guys I remember from the old days, there are just not enough around to keep the building running right. The AOAO really screwed the owners now. Its a ghetto and you best stay away. read more

I parked here during my stay at Hyatt Place, but I'll def use it for when I'm staying at the Marriott. Marriott parking is HORRRRRIBLE and this parking lot is clean, easy to access, with ample parking spaces in comparison. Plus cheaper. So duh, will be using it from now on. read more

This hotel was older and not up to date for sure but it is walking distance to the beach and some fun bars. The pool and jacuzzi were nice but there were so many little kids that it was problematic for swimming. The snack bar next to the pool had delicious kalua pork nachos though! The room was spacious for myself and my 2 grown daughters and for the Kamaina price of $350.00 we definitely thought it was worth it. They graciously allowed us to check out an hour late and we really appreciated that. The front desk staff was very friendly. We would definitely stay here again. read more

This place constantly has an "emergency" going on, causing commotion and for everyone to get out of the building which is inconvenient especially if you're on like the 30th floor because you have to walk down the stairs. They turn the water off during really random periods of the day and on top of that, I found a cockroach in my toilet. The location is a few blocks away from the beac which is inconvenient considering there are a lot of hotels that are just across the street from the beach. 2 stars for the kitchen and the cleaning crew but I gave 1 bc overall this place deserves just 1. They swept our floors and kept things orderly when we would come back. But overall, I would NOT stay here again. You're better off staying at the original Aston hotel that is just across the beach. Very date building in a already crowded area. Thee rental office is on floor 2 and is in what looks like a broom closet. Friendly staff. The building could use a make over. This is a shared building for tourust,guests and permanent private renters. The parking garage is soon tight and crowded,but it's included in the the rate. This saves a few $$$. You will have free parking on levels 2-5 whither your parking pass displayed at all times. Beach is a block down. Several tourist shops around. Safeway is close but still a drive away. Full size stove and fridge. Pots and pans. Coffee maker. Iron and ironing board. A few towels and 2 beach towels all come in the room. Ok the place here is very nice. However, there is this pair of older women that ruined it for us. They are horrible people. Several days in a row, we see them bully the kids in the pool when they come down. Usually they are there around 5pm'ish. Avoid them at all costs. They purposely walk between kids who are playing or "splashing" and tell them to stop. They could easily walk around the kids as the pool is large enough for them to easily do so. But, for some reason they like to walk right between everyone and make a HUGE fake scene. "AAAHHHH!!!! No splashing!" I think they do this because they are trying to flirt with an older man who also seems to come down to the pool at the same time. Maybe they are hoping he will come to their rescue and fulfill some unrealized fantasy? Not sure. But, again don't take your kids down to the pool at this time since these two fake drama queens will ruin it for you and your family. read more

This is what I saw when I walked in: The staff had facemasks on, the elevator smelled like seaweed, the pool was so crowded you couldn't see the water, the hot tub smelled like urine, the hallways we're steamy hot, the linoleum on the room floor was peeling up and off, the paint on the walls were painted so many times over that they looked gunked over, the A/C unit looked and sounded like it was about to break, and the bathroom was so small it was almost unusable. The only positives were that the parking garage was close by and the room was large. Would never stay there again...it smelled bad. read more

This place is the worst. Avoid it at all costs. The place is run down and things are falling apart. The pluming is so unreliable that they have rolling shut offs. The security are all wannabe cops that hassle people over stupid crap constantly. The recycling service that the building provides? - They throw it all away with all the regular trash. The only thing they recycle is the flattened out cardboard. I've literally with my own two eyes watch the maintenance people pick up the glass and/or aluminum recycle bins and dump them down the trash chute. The parking lot is a mess. Dead ends everywhere and they love throwing out tickets to increase revenue from the already expensive parking. Both towers are full of tourists and you can forget about using the pool if you're over 15 years old. read more

Very unhelpful front desk staff. Was there today because they had an open house sign posted at the Ohua and Kuhio. Approached the bell stand, there was no one else waiting and asked the bellman to direct me to the open house. He said that there is a bulletin board by the elevator that had the information. I went to the elevator and and found the bulletin board, there was no information about the open house or anything related. Went to the other set of elevators and there was a general sign listing the hours that open houses are permitted. But again did not come close to answering my question. Doubled back to the bellman and asked for the manager. He responded "which one?" So I told him: "YOUR manager" He said that his manager was not there. Someone at the adjoining front desk asked what the problem was, so I told her that the bellman had given incorrect information about the open house and wanted to bring it to management's attention that staff was dissuading business. She replied that It was not the bellman's job to give me information and that he did not actually work for the building. So I replied that if he did not know the information, the answer I was looking for was "I don't know, please wait while I find out for you." Pretty much what I think is basic customer service, after all a bellman is a customer service position and I was asking a question directly related to a publicly advertised happening in the building that he is paid to provide customer service. Anyway, went back of forth and ended up not looking at the open house, no great loss because if the staff is this unhelpful before you buy, I can only imagine what the level of service is going to be after they have your money. read more

I made a reservation for this condo on a Tuesday evening for a 9 day stay. I went through Airbnb and the host was Midway Realty LLC. On Thursday Evening Hawaii's governor stated he was going to continue the 14 day stay in place until end of June, in which our reservation started on June 26th. I tried to reach out to Airbnb and got voicemails saying that unless I was staying in the next 72 hours to call again and did that several times until finally I got a call back at 3 am. They said I had past the 48 hours and now was only getting 50% of my money back. The real estate company says, 4 days later I am out $300.00. Several families are going with us to visit Marines on the Hawaii base and everyone else was rescheduled for October with no extra fees or received a refund. Don't go with a company that is not willing to help a single parent visit her Marine !! read more

A hole in the wall, literally someone punched out part of the wall. The room smelled, the paint was cracking, the wifi was constantly turning on and off, a mysterious liquid was dripping from the balcony above us, the pool was crowded and, there was bad service. The best part about this dive was we could easily get to our car in the parking garage. read more

Staff was super helpful and check in was fast although the room wasn't available until 3pm. We had a one bed bedroom and my husband did not like it. So we called the lobby and asked if we can get another room. The staff was super helpful with that and they gave us the option of picking which room we would like to stay in. We checked 2 rooms, one of the rooms was close to the pool and the other option was at the 34th room. The view was great and it had two beds. So we took the 34th room. We had to hook up the ethernet wire to use to the internet for the PS3 so that worked out great. You will need a credit card (i used my debit card) because they will charge a $300 security deposit and will refund it back provided there is no damage to the room. Parking was included in the charge so we didn't need to worry about where to park, $20 for 24 hours and we stayed for two nights. We used the bbq area for a birthday party and in order to use the grill it cost $2 in coins for the grill (there are probably 8+ grills) to operate for an hour. Our birthday party had about 10+ people and there is no smoking in the area and no beer/wine bottles allowed on the grill area for safety reasons. If you have beer bottles use cups and just make sure to take the bottles/anything glass with you and dispose of it in safely manner. Although you can buy the beer cans so that will save you a lot of trouble. Also alot of sitting places at the grill area, a basketball/tennis court, playground for the kids, pool area (currently there are some renovations around the pool area but the pool is still open). I haven't been to the pool area so I'm not sure what the dos and donts at the pool area. If you want to use a basketball it costs $20 and will charge $5 an hour. Overall, the experience of staying at this hotel was okay. The room we stayed in had a full kitchen area, along with pots and pans to use, utensils, microwave, small 4 cup rice cooker, toaster, plates, cups, and complimentary coffee. We had the two bed bedroom, PS3 for games or rental movies, enough stools(5) for the counter, bathroom was clean and shower was high enough for tall people. Everything was great.
