Large island and full size kitchen 1706
    Michelle J.

Front desk very pleasant and helpful. Rooms are big and clean. Full size kitchen and large island. Room 1706 has both ocean and Mountain views. Nice size clean pool with two hot tubs with safety fence. Renovated restrooms on pool deck. Lots of bbq area available but no shade covered area from sun or rain. Nice playground for children. Snack bar not available closed for good. Security on duty on pool deck. Room furniture is a little dated. Drapes are stained and could be replaced. Parking not included and is $43 per day. Good location beach access is a very short walk. Lots of options to dine all walking distance from famous restaurants to food trucks.

Waikiki Banyan Condos 1502-2 https://abnb.me/3LIIrnN2Eqb Just finished a 2 week stay in Tower 2, Unit 1502 and the unit was newly remodeled with everything one can imagine you would need. On this trip, everything was brand new, appliances, furniture, linens, and some beach accessories were still wrapped in plastic. From all the comments in the Facebook groups and discussion forums about accommodations in Hawaii, if you book your room at the Waikiki Banyan through Aston Hotel Management, expect to pay $30 daily for parking and $25 daily resort fees. So, $55 plus taxes daily will be added to your hotel bill at checkout. Also, you get whatever room is available in their hotel pool so not necessarily the unit in their photos. Booking through AirBnB, FREE parking is included, no resort fees and you get the unit exactly what you see in their listing photos. You get to read feedback about that unit and owner as well. I suggest booking through AirBnB directly with the owner or their property manager and get a better value (like this unit).

they just randomly removed the toilet and left this hole for most of a day. Was a no knock operation - no warning, not apologies

I've had the unfortunate experience of staying in this hulking old dungeon of a hotel for a month (Feb. 2021) via the the vacation company "Darmic." I guess I should have seen the writing on the walls (before the demolished them) when the manager warned me that she herself had not been paid in quite some time. To be fair, the ad I responded to offered the place at a discount due to possible "dust, noise, water shut offs and other reduced amenities possible at various times." This light description did not begin to describe the chaos and persecution that was about unleashed upon me, a young professional trying to lead a quiet life of work and surf. The place is quite literally falling apart and the staff who haunt the ancient hallways have adopted a cool attitude of aloofness and disregard. The elevators often take nearly 10 minutes to deliver you to your destination. One of the hot tubs featured in their marketing was closed, while the other one was full of a tepid liquid resembling urine. The tennis courts are in a state of disrepair and unusable, men's sauna padlocked shut, with nothing but shrugs from the onsite management. The front desk staff and security are rude and annoyed at any interaction that distract them from.... The security team seem barely conscious. My entreaties about getting things fixed were met with a shrug at best, or a spiteful smirk at worst. At one point, when my toilet stopped working altogether and the aging plunger crumbled under the yolk of age and stress, security, which I was told is in charge of such matters" informed me "that's your problem, not mine." The elevators were supposedly being repaired at night, but during the day the constantly freeze resulting in long waits to navigate the rambling old 1970s hulk. Longtime residents told me of the glory days, and sadly recounted the degradation and destruction of what was once a destination in Waikiki. There is a very loud speaker system in the room that cannot be turned off. This seemed to be platform of self expression for the hotels beleaguered employees, giving voice to their own frustration and world weariness. Often (more than 5 times) an announcement would blast into the room instructing me to evacuate immediately or risk annihilation. Only much later, or not at all there would be a follow up announcement that it had been just a drill. In each case that announcement came AFTER I had sprinted down 31 levels to the ground floor. I asked "why" when this kept happening. Nobody cared. On my last day, I was in a rush to leave for all of the above and below reasons and made the mistake of leaving an expensive medicine in a drawer. The cleaning staff did me the favor of taking a picture of it ... they sent me the picture of it, but reproved me for leaving calling it a "syringe" when it was just a dropper or medicine. No one care. I saved the construction for the end, since hopefully you are are reading this years later and it will not apply. For 7-8 hours a day there was hard drilling going on seemingly in both apartments adjacent to mine as well as the hallway which was being demolished and covered in plastic. Workers, who were actually some of the buildings more cheerful denizens, entered my apartment at will, with no warning, to do things like demolish walls, remove toilets, or mysteriously make measurements. Imagine have your teeth drilled for 8 hours a day. The hallways are also being demolished outside my door. Again, I was warned of "dust, noise, water shut offs and other reduced amenities possible at various times," however this apartment should never have been rented out. It was inhabitable. Beware! If you want to see entropy in action (things fall apart, the center does not hold, mere anarchy is loosed upon the world etc.,) stay at the Banyan. Otherwise, BEWARE.

    Scary dirty corridor

This was our first time in Honolulu. We stayed on the 18th floor of Tower 1. The inside of the building was soooo outdated and dirty. Inside our room looked better; had a couple of things that didn't work properly, but was ok for the most part. The doors and hallway were dirty and very old looking like something out of a ghetto horror movie. One washer one dryer on the floor so had to wait & take turns. Parking was free, but the spacing and clearance of the parking garage was horrific. I would never book here again. It's like the San Francisco of Hawaii. Only pro is it was a short walk to the beach. The whole dirty SF city vibe was not for me. Even the little convenience store was outdated. This whole area gave off third world country vibes. If that's your thing then go for it. Go to Ko Olina for a more upscale and gorgeous experience.

The Waikiki Banyan is a two-tower residential condominium complex located about 2 blocks from the beach next to a Hilton and Hyatt. The two towers are both nearly 40 stories tall so the units on the upper floors offer some breathtaking views, especially the ones on in Tower 1 facing toward Diamond Head. The complex is a bit dated, having been built in the 1970s, but there have been upgrades and renovations since then. The complex also has a multi-level parking garage underneath and a pool and jacuzzis. The garage is poorly designed with tandem spaces and many dead end areas with drive aisles that are so narrow you have to back out. But parking is at a premium in Waikiki, especially this close to the beach. My wife and I rented unit 3411 on the 34th floor of Tower 1. The view was amazing. We were able to watch the sunrise over the mountains. We had a perfect view of Diamond Head and the ocean. Additionally we were close enough to the zoo to see elephants from our window and wake up to the sound of monkey noises. While this particular unit was very dated, it was amazingly economical. Couple that with the view and the included parking (which can cost $20-30 a day at hotels) and this rental was a no-brainer. While we rented from an owner through VRBO.com, you could also rent through Aston who has about two hundred units they rent in the building, as well. For the location and price, an upper floor unit at the Waikiki Banyan is an excellent option to consider instead of the many expensive hotels nearby.

Although I didn't get the room that was advertised when I reserved it this place was ok. It sucked the park by the pool was closed but other than that we had a great view and the staff was so nice. My only negative thing I gotta say is that it was very dusty and the ground didn't seem like it had been swept or mopped in a while. I come from a poor background so I tend to be more humble about things. It was a beautiful sized room and the view was amazing the pool and jacuzzi was a plus! Parking I had to pay $20. Decor was Outdated and the curtains were filthy but I gotta say being on the 36th floor it was great.

There was no urgent issue, they never called, they just decided they could get more money than our reservation. So be warned if you reserve with them... they may leave you hanging. EDIT: The owner left a response citing verification processes. We completed everything asked for on booking and NEVER received any communications on August 28 or 29. My biggest…read moredissatisfaction was how an Ilikai pool staff member talked to my kids then me then my husband. On our last two days we were exhausted from being active at local beaches and not sleeping well so we decided to just relax at their 1st floor pool. On the last day my kids had just went in the pool (not even 5 minutes in) and asked a lady staff member (who btw acted like she owned the place so might have been a manager) if they had any pool noddles for the kids. In a rude tone she told them "do you see any noodles here?!". While this was happening I was already walking to the pool desk to ask the guy for pool noodles since he gave my kids and several senior lady's some the prior day. But my kids beat me to it so I stood by my kids as the rude staff lady finished talking and I told her that yesterday we were provided noodles and she told me in a rude tone "any pool toys are for you to provide, not us!". I didn't appreciate her tone, but understood. So I told my kids I'd talk to my husband about going to the store to get them some inflatable toys we could easily take home afterwards. So I made my way to where my husband was sitting and as we're taking about buying inflatable toys here comes the rude lady. She interrupted by walking up to my husband saying "you cannot sit here!". He asked why and she said that the lounging chair cannot be close to the shaded table. (For context, my husband moved that lounging chair about 4-5ft to get shade from the umbrella on our table as he was not trying to sunbathe.) My husband told her oh I'll put it back before we leave. HERE IS THE ULTIMATE NASTY RESPONSE WE GOT FROM THE STAFF LADY, SHE SAID: "I'M NOT MOVING TILL YOU PUT THE CHAIR BACK!". All while she stood next to my husband with her arms crossed! That's when I had heard enough and jumped in. I told her we are not bothering anyone and just came to chill and I don't like how she's talking to us. She insisted she was not moving. So I asked her what is her problem and why she's been sassy since my kids asked for pool noodles and now something silly like moving the chair. I told her at this point she's leaving me no option but to go complain and still in a sassy tone she tells me "come on I'll walk you there". I told her no need I know exactly where I need to go. As I walked to the Marina Resort office (where RCI guests get help) she also was walking pretty fast somewhere. So she left my husband alone all of a sudden. And on my way out of the pool area I told my kids to not talk to that lady. When I got to the Marina Resort office Shawn was there and he was a sweetheart. We need more hospitality staff like him! As soon as I had to retell what had happened I cried b/c I felt everyone starring at the pool area and I felt humiliated. Once Shawn listened he phoned someone from the main Ilikai office as they are the ones who mange the pool staff. So again I retold a lady on the phone what happened and made it clear that either that rude lady gets removed from the pool area or my family and I will leave. Once my complaint was heard over the phone I was assured the rude pool lady would be removed. I waited with Shawn for a few more minutes to compose myself as I didn't want my kids to see me crying. Shawn told me he wished he could offer me something to make things right but all he could offer was extending our next day checkout from 10am to noon. I accepted that since our flight was not till 3pm. I did return to the pool area where my husband and kids were and my husband told me to relax that the rude lady got a call then grabbed her belongings and left. So we were all able to relax. It blows my mind that working in hospitality a staff member could be so rude to kids and adults. I don't know if after we checked out that rude lady was allowed back in the job. But I wish Ilikai would have done more to make it up for us. We all know it's expensive to vacation in HI so we want to enjoy it and just feels like Ilikai should have done more. All I can say is that based on how this rude staff lady talked to us and how Ilikai didn't consider doing something to make things right for us this is not a place I'd recommend.

It has a huge yard right on the ocean with spectacular sunset views. People should be aware that pretty much all you're getting for your money is the location and scenery. The house has an old Hawaiian feel with large rooms and open architecture. It was built in 1964 and actually has a total of 10 bedrooms; however, there are only 6 bedrooms and 4 baths available for rental. The other bedrooms are either rented out separately, or the owner lives in them. Even though there is a large parking area, carport, and garage, there are only 4 spaces available when you rent the 6 bed, 4 bath part of the house. There is street parking available about 200 yds. away, but you have to walk on the shoulder of a very busy highway. The driveway entrance to the house is also on this same busy highway, so getting in and out is not easy. We were disappointed with the cleanliness and upkeep of the house. We had to wash the large sliding glass doors and several of the windows in prominent areas. Some of the screens in the bedrooms had large tears. There were several large mirrors in the dining room - one of which was cracked. There were not enough towels for all the guests - some bathrooms had no towels, and we had to supply our own. There was an odd collection of dishes and really not enough of them considering the number of people that could stay there. The dishwasher was not attached to the underside of the countertop, so every time we opened the door, the dishwasher would tilt forward, and dishes would spill out. We actually had to weed-wack a large area of the back lawn (right outside the back door where all the guests would be) where there were 12" tall grass weeds sticking up. The entrance to the house is a courtyard where there is a pool which is not very inviting since the bottom looks like it needs to be cleaned and refinished. Nobody wanted to go in the pool. Basically, this is an old island house that really needs some TLC. Also, be sure to read the rental pricing carefully. Paying $1,500/night to rent the place does not allow you to hold any events while you're there. There is an additional $3,000 fee if you want to hold an event. We were aware of that, so it wasn't a problem, but that extra cost should be considered if you're planning an event.
