Before there was Octave Grill, we used to come here and get hamburgers to go for the entire family (since they don't allow kids). Waffle fries are great. It's a solid restaurant. The few times we have been to Wagner's the service has been excellent and the food is delicious. Some items are overpriced (some appetizers and desserts) but for the most part they are comparable to other restaurants in their category. The ribs are outstanding as well as their fish. Words can not describe the incompetence. We did a pickup order of 5 meals. 2 of the entree salads did not have dressing, the side was wrong with the pork sandwich, and the fish didn't come with any of the 2 sides at all. First off, let's get this said right now, these ribs will be the best ribs that you have ever eaten in your life. And on a mostly consistent basis, that will be the case. That said once in a while you will be left wondering did someone brand new make my food? Was it pre-cooked or did they make it right now because it is cold. Last time I ate there I had a rotten potato. But let's be honest I have eaten there several times this year, so to have a rotten potato out of one visit I don't want to completely throw them under the bus. The wait staff is generally helpful. This restaurant is worth visiting especially if you're not into dining with children. Which, by the way, despite some of my bad experiences, I almost gave it five stars for being the only restaurant that does not serve children in house. When I pay for a nice dinner I sometimes get annoyed at the 4 yr old throwing a tantrum. You NEVER have to worry about that at Wagners! read more

Was expecting so much more out of Wagners. Nestled in between a housing community is Wagners ribs. You can tell this was originally a house that has been converted. Sitting on the vary spacious patio, the neighbor is only an arms length away. Service was awful. Once we said we liked water to drink it took nearly 30 minutes to place an order. There was only 2 other parties outside, and they were the only ones being helped. Food was average. Quality of the rib meat was excellent but very little dry rub on it. Corn cob was average. Only tried the BBQ sauce once, it was extremely sugary and some of the worst I've ever tasted, not to mention the pink hue color it has. Love the lake perch! The Indiana way, lightly breaded sautéed in butter, and served with tarter sauce and clarified butter on the side! It is simply heavenly. Coleslaw was good too, not a soupy mess like most places, I could actually eat it! The ribs were a tad dry, and no extra sauce was given, I don't get that? Should be free flowing, at least a squeeze bottle of bbq sauce on the tables. Or bring your own sauce, since I hear they charge extra. I will stick to the perch, from now on, however. Heard about this place from a few friends and decided to give it a try. Little off the beaten path, but if you are in the area look them up. They have indoor and outdoor seating available and all workers that we saw had their face masks on properly. Seating is also done with social distancing. You walk into a front porch area that needs a good spruce up and into a room that is mostly bar. Feom there you have another room for sitting and the 1 bathroom hidden behind a screen. You can exit there to find the outdoor seating. We chose to sit outside. The deck area is spacious and has plenty of foliage to give a secluded feeling from the neighborhood. With all the lockdown time they had it appears they did not use it to clean up the deck area. The storage area next to the bar is badly placed. The mismatch of fence types looks cheesy. The wrought iron tables and chairs could be cleaned and repainted. Plus they are not that comfortable. We started our meal with the haystack onion rings. Great presentation but all grease and low on taste. The sauce it is served with is too watered down. The pulled pork sandwich saved the day and was delicious. The ribs are well cooked and fall off the bone. The fish breading lacks seasoning. The service was on top of it. Refills came at the right time and we never felt like they were watching over our shoulder. The mac and cheese was better then we have found elsewhere and the cornbread ?pancakes? Where heavy. Got the meat lovers combo which came with a half slab of there famous ribs and a 10oz grilled ribeye. The ribs where awesome as usual and they basically fall off the bones. In my opinion they are a must have when you go to Wagner's and I've never been disappointed with them. My steak was a little over cooked on the other hand but was still seasoned well and I've had it before and it was perfect. As funny as it it sounds I think next time I'll just get the regular combo and get the half slab of ribs and the lake perch a couple people in my party had and raved about it and I did try it and it was wonderful. I really do like this place the one piece of advice I would give a person is get there a little earlier because it fills up fast and you'll want to get a decent seat. **Update** Knocking this down to average because the last two times I've been here the food has been average and best not what it use to be it's kind of going downhill a little bit. This was a pit stop after reading reviews of how this place has the best ribs in the state. Being a first timer here, I didn't know what to expect except picturing myself scarfing down ribs. I went here with a friend of mine and we split their full slab of ribs. For being $22, it came with 2 sides and it was plentiful for both of us to share. The service was a-ok and we both felt that we were treated differently. It's daylight out and in most cases, people don't drink during the day so why did the waitress ask us for our IDs? A bit bothered, I just handed it to her and I asked why. She said it was a bar that we went to and they had to check our IDs. Um lady there are plenty of restaurants like Applebees and Damons have bars and they don't ask for our IDs. Anyhow, we were both very hungry and just ordered. Ribs come out and they were finger lickin' good. Meat fell off the bone and the green beans that came with tasted fresh as well. Not your typical out of a can ones and their sweet yams tasted right out of the farm. Indiana people sure know how to eat fresh and I love that. Being from the metropolitan area, we don't get to taste what real food is. In other words, food that weren't mass produced from a factory. I like Indiana especially the ribs I had from here. We come to this BAR on our way to Chicago, because of great reviews it had. Our group was denied dining in there, because one of us had paper ID. This type of ID is officially recognized by police or beverage stores, but not apparently at this place. Their reasoning was that it's Indiana state rule, but I googled it and it's NOT. We were asked to leave, even though everyone had ID, 21+ years and wasn't even planning on drinking, but still they had come up with this unreasonable rule. But I didn't come for the sides so I didn't eat much of them. I came for the Ribs. They were. . . as advertised. Very tender and well cooked. They were smoked well and seemed rather fresh. Favorite rib place hands down! I moved to Chicago and still drive to Porter to eat here. The ribs fall off the bone every time. Don't forget a bottle of spicy or regular sauce to take home! Went last night with the Mrs. and bro-in-law and his wife. SIMPLY OUTSTANDING! The three of them were there a couple weeks ago and my wife said "they are the best ribs I EVER had." The bartender and I had a little banter and she was having fun with the 4 of us. Drinks were rather inexpensive too! They place is small, however they do have a room in back and a patio outside. We ordered the onion strings and tomato bread. Both were seriously excellent. For dinner, I ordered a full slab as did my bro-in-law. The ladies ordered 1/2 slab and stuffed shrimp. They literally fell off the bone as I picked them up. Incredible to say the least! Service was also very good. About 1/2 way through my delicious delight, I was about done, just one more I thought...ok, go for it! They were that good. My wife enjoyed her meal as did my other table companions. As we were enjoying of scrumptious meal, we thought we'd get a slab to go along with a pulled pork sandwich. Atmosphere was inviting, service was great and the food was even better. Strike 3- meal arrives very slowly only to be over cooked and dried out. The baked potato was a brick, the grilled chicken breast chewy as if it had been microwave and that single kebab, so burnt inedible. Strike 4- French onion soup arrives after the entrees but thank goodness it did. It was actually pretty good. My husband was bragging about the ribs for a few days so we visited tonight. The waitress was steller, very attentive and quick on refills. We both had the ribs, I had the TIMS with spicy sauce and he order regular with regular sauce. When the came out they switched them on our plates, no big deal but he also got my spicy sauce. I didn't make a fuss but asked for spicy BBQ on the side and was charged even though our ribs were incorrect and my husband doesn't care for spice. For $23 you can at least get the right sauce on the right slabs. The ribs taste baked and even though my husband says they're the best, I prefer my local smoked BBQ joint 'it's time to eat BBQ' the true #1 ribs in NWI. The chicken pot pie soup was great, but constantly telling wait staff I wasn't finished was annoying. The mashed potatoes and gravy were ice cold, not to mention very lumpy. My husband dipped a tater tots in my gravy and it wouldn't even hold on it. We arrived at 8:40, no reason you should slack on hot food. Also the wait staff was sweeping right next to us, dropping things and being loud. It was extremely disrespectful and disgusting.
