This Waffle House in Diamondhead, MS is conveniently accessible from I-10, and is on the north side of the interstate across from Dairy Queen and Ramada Inn. I had not been to a Waffle House in many years, but wanted a hot meal, more than fast food, so I thought to try them. I was welcomed upon entering by Bridgette who also was my server. After I chose a table and perused the menu, I chose the "All Star Special" which had two eggs, hash browns, toast, a waffle, and a protein. I decided to upgrade to the country ham rather than bacon or sausage. I upgraded the Waffle to the cinnamon crunch, and also ordered some sweet tea. Everything was cooked to perfection. The eggs were cooked precusely as I requested (over medium). The hash browns seemed a bit dry, but combined with the rest was delicious. I only ate half the Waffle, but enjoyed it with some butter. The cinnamon crunch is a topping sprinkled on before serving. My compliments to the chef. Bridgette was great, friendly, and efficient. The restaurant, as far as I could see, was clean. The décor is basic American diner. Most other clients were locals, which is a good sign. Don't stop here. Have been to many waffle houses but this one was the worst by far. We stopped in around noon on a Sunday so I can understand and they're busy and I can be patient. The issue was I asked for my bacon to not be super crispy and turn into dust when I bite into it. Our waitress assured me it wouldn't be but of course it was, then the waffle she brought over was so runt that it could've stood up on edge, asked for new bacon and didn't receive it for probably another 15 minutes which was about how long to get a proper waffle as well. Never offered to refill my drink. Don't get me wrong, our waitress wasn't rude or anything just very slow and not on top of her job of being a waitress. The entire crew looked unhappy and out of sync. When we left my wife made me promise to NEVER come back to this location again. read more

Chain restaurant... like 2,100 locations! Just driving through the Gulf Coast we counted six Waffle House restaurants within a few miles from each other. What is up with this chain... we finally stopped and dined in one to check it out. No hostess service, we sat ourselves in the dining room. Our friendly (and patient) server came to our table but we needed some time to look over the menu. It was just a simple menu, back-to-back, but it was busy I didn't know where to begin. When we finally decided she came back and took our orders. I ordered from the breakfast side. While I only wanted my hash browns "plain" I saw that you can have a variety of toppings added to them (onions, cheese, ham, tomatoes, peppers, mushrooms, chili, and sausage gravy) or you can request for your hash browns "All the way" which includes all those toppings I mentioned. I've never heard of such a thing... need to expand my palate adventures. I tried the grilled mushrooms with it. I had a simple 2-egg bacon breakfast with an extra side order of more bacon (total 6 bacons). Bacon makes my day. So good! We had such a pleasant first time experience that I'm a fan of Waffle House. Most of the locations are in the South... like a cultural icon of some sort. The closest one to me would be in AZ, next is in TX. Each restaurant is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Absolutely do not waste your time coming here unless you're desperate. No one could be bothered to greet us as we walked in to the restaurant. We could tell there was a wait, but never having been there before we didn't know what the process was, i.e., do we need to put our name on a list, etc. We stood in front of a woman we presumed was the manager by the way she was loudly yelling at the staff "cut that shit out." We stood directly in front of her at the register for several minutes but she didn't acknowledge us and walked away. She came back and walked away 3 times without saying a word or even making eye contact. Finally I asked her "is there a list we need to put our names on?" She said "no ma'am," but didn't explain anything. I then said, "you saw us standing here, why didn't you tell us what we need to do?" She replied "can't you see I'm busy?" in a confrontational tone. I will also note three other workers saw us standing there (I know because they actually made eye contact), but said nothing. I anticipate they didn't want to receive the wrath of this very angry person who should not be in a customer service or leadership role. In the time we waited there we also noticed the utter mess the open view kitchen was. Clearly there is not a "clean as you go" standard as there were literally piles of overflowing half cooked food all over the counters and even "in" the waffle makers. Time went by and no one came so she came back and said she would help us. Got our food in great time. And she also checked on us if we needed anything. Her name is J Dubs. It was okay. Not the best Waffle House I have ever been too. I have food allergies so eating here is usually pretty safe because I can usually find something. When our server (Amy) took our order I explained I was allergic to wheat so I needed to be sure my food does not come into contact with bread or anything containing wheat or things would end up not too good for me. I placed my order and she asked if I wanted toast. Now I understand people forget things but when dealing with allergies you CANNOT forget that! I mean that is huge. After that I was so nervous that my food would be contaminated with wheat. I was able to eat and nothing happened so that is good. The food was ok. If you've ever been to multiple Waffle Houses you know that while the menus may be the same, the cooks and the servers vary. A waffle in one place may be perfect and another not quite right; eggs over medium can be done right or wrong...it's all about the cooks. We come to this Waffle House every visit here to see family. We are always greeted with a cheerful Southern smile and the service is always prompt, courteous, friendly, and just attentive enough. And we've always had good food. The cooks do it well and seem to have fun doing it. For several years we've come and will keep on coming each time we visit. Oh and I should add, we're always here for breakfast (weekend or weekdays)...not the late night. I was surprised at the low rating for here...my guess it's the late night drunks? My husband and I ate at this Waffle House yesterday. Restaurant was clean and the staff were friendly. I love it when people appear to enjoy their jobs. The manager visited with us and he was an absolute delight. He interacted with his staff and they all seem to be having a good time working. I will be back when I'm in the area. I had scattered and smothered hash browns with a side of bacon and loved how the grill op made sure the onions were cooked a bit tender. When we walked in she immediately rolled her eyes. When I got my hash browns I had already eaten some and noticed weird black goop at the bottom and in the hash browns. Really really disgusting. Had the greatest waitress tonight clearly she is new but the cooks were very rude to her and very intimidated by her ability to do her job with a smile on her face!!! To the point where they made her call out every detail of the order instead of the traditional Waffle House call out. Yet the other server was able to call out like normal. She was corrected for speaking to us other than our order we were one of three tables in the whole restaurant. Then the cooks continued to talk negatively and rudely to her. She is amazing and I'm completely disappointed in how she was treated by the two cooks. She was publicly ridiculed for doing her job to well! I visited here a couple days ago while traveling from California to Florida. I ordered a waffle and ham. Ended up vomiting upon arriving home in Florida. Was unable to keep anything down. Went to the hospital and the doctor confirmed it was food poisoning. I haven't been able to visit home since I'm an active duty vet.
