Waffle House has become an iconic part of the landscape of the southeastern United States. These yellow neon lit buildings have fed countless road weary travelers, families with laughing children in tow, late night revelers and people from every walk of life. My go to choices are either the patty melt or one of their egg and meat breakfast options. But for me the big allure here has always been their hash browns. You can get the hash browns topped with a variety of toppings, you can't go wrong with chili and cheese, but really it is whatever talk to your heart. I guess you might find it odd that I have never had the waffles at a business where waffle is in their very name of the business but I am just not into the sweet type breakfasts. Upon entering the facility there were only a few customers with a host of Waffle House employee. After we were seated we could not get any service all the employees were hud-up by the grill conversing loudly! We continued to wait until we couldn't. Was in Bartlett/Memphis for a family reunion. Left out Monday, May 29 around 5:30 am or so. Decided to grab my grandson a bacon, cheese & egg sandwich....I called Waffle House on Germantown (right in the parking lot of the hotel we visited), no one answered, however, an answering machine message inconveniently advised that they WERE NOT taking 'to go' orders over the phone. Me thinking, "that's fine...it won't take long to get a sandwich!!" Boy, was I wrong. As stated above, I ordered a bacon, egg & cheese sandwich, an order of toast & orange juice. Three young ladies were working...one was washing dishes, one was cooking (without a hair net). Her hair was all over her head...but anyway....the girl, quickly took my order AND MONEY, but I had to wait 30 minutes for food, however another customer came in 15 minutes after I placed my rider & ordered a DOUBLE ORDER of hashbrowns & a DOUBLE TEXAS TOAST SANDWICH....got his food before I got mine....no one ever apologized or said, "your food is next...would you like some coffee while you wait...."....NOTHING!!!! Finally, 30 minutes later, got my food, headed to puck up my grandson, from daughter's house, so we could get on the road heading back to Georgia....guess what.....NO ORANGE JUICE...AGGRAVATION OVERLOAD at this time....had to go back to get my ORANGE juice. The girl did apologize, but I would have to say, this was the WORSE WAFFLE HOUSE EXPERIENCE I'VE EVER HAD....and I really like Waffle House, but will NEVER visit that location again!!! Some nice people but filthy place to eat. The lady swept the floor while we were eating. The food cook area was disgusting. Seriously, the waffle machine the fry area was no longer silver but blackened. Everything behind the counter was awful. Part of the staff was soo loud you couldn't hear the person with you. I went to this location this morning, they were not busy, sat immediately. Briunna went to the ladies that came in after me. EIGHT minutes after I got there is when she finally came to me and got my drink and food order. Went to 3 different locations last night and was treated rudely at 2 out of three, the third was closed for repairs. Told we could only get take out but we would have to wait for the next shift and that would not be for another 20-30 minutes. That was the story at both stores. I won't waste my time in the future. Way too loud for a Sunday morning! Service was quick and tidy and with a smile The eggs over easy were super oily,like dripping in oil so that put me off but the potato's were decent and the ham was perfect. The sausage patty was almost petrified in texture,thin and over cooked it was like chewing pork flavoured cardboard... The waffle was also a let down ,I was stunned too after all the place is called Waffle House I was expecting a first class Waffle like in the pictures but to no avail ,not even close Thin and cold and off in color my sub standard waffle was just a mere shadow of what you would expect and looked nothing like a normal Waffle.
