Drinks are delish and strong two had me right. The menu is super small I would eat prior to going if you are expecting a full dinner. Good Rooftop bar, a lot of people and a nice place to go for happy hour and drinks. It was a little hectic, but that was because it is bar life versus lounge life. I would come here again, and I'll make sure to get there a little earlier so I can get a bar seat versus standing. read more

This is right across my apartment and I love it. I had the pizza with the bacon and it was delicious. Went with my friend for a few drinks and it was a great evening. The rooftop is huge and has two ends with outdoor seating with fire pits. The bar is a cool shape and the waiters were nice enough to switch my drink (which I initially didn't like) for another kind for free! I am shocked and appalled at the treatment received at the front from both security and management which apparently are interchangeable. Ive never had an issue but security at the front questioned my id so i provided a second form of identification which was rejected. The man proceeded to tell me he is the manager as i escalated the situation. After asking again, this woman shows up and now she is the manager who told me she overheard the whole scenario and is not letting us in due to the discretion of her employee. So if she overheard everything where is the professionalism and who is really managment here. Terrible will not be back nor will recommend this lounge to anyone due to lack of professionalism. Female manager, after she allowed her security checking ids to identity as manager stated that we arent here for a party as all the parties have already started. Place is kind of pretentious had to check my hat (free) coat check chick was awesome, good sense of humor, got in the elevator went up to vu hostess was awesome, sat us as soon as we got up to the floor. There was a private event which is fine, plenty of open seats. Sat within minutes. Waited .. Waited... .. Waited... Bueller...bueller... Anyone .. Server never came prolly 20 min to be modest. The VU rooftop and Rachel specifically saved our wedding day after a last-minute cancellation by our other venue and made it even more beautiful than we had originally planned. Rachel did not have the word "no" in her vocabulary and was determined to make our vision and any request we came up with happen. Wow, I came all they way from Lake View on bike with my girl just to be told we couldn't get in because we were wearing sandals. It's 80 degrees out side and we are trying to drink on a roof top! I called them to confirm dress code standards, no one answered. I also looked at the web site for dress code restrictions, nothing. I guess I'd rather go to a local favorite Reggie's just down the street, punk rock bar with a basketball hoop on their rooftop. Much less pretentiousness. And if you want A killer rooftop go to Cerise in river north, straight down Wabash. "Virgin hotel" no dress code. Was really looking foward to checking out VU. Oh well. read more

I was going to write a longer, more detailed review of this place, but here is what you need to know. Vu is an overrated, run-of-the-mill rooftop joint with overpriced beverages and lackluster dishes that 1) relies solely on its spectacular view to rip off its customers, rather than by having an experienced management/staff team, and 2) caters mostly to private parties who are willing to be drained of their money simply to enjoy a view that you could easily enjoy elsewhere. read more

If I could give this establishment a -100 I definitely would! We had a reservation for 10 for my cousins bday on Saturday night . They sat us down at a table and served us water and told us that this was our spot. We were ready to order drinks and food for OVER an hour nobody came and asked us what did we want to eat or drink ( Very poor service!) and next thing you know a waitress is telling us that we have to get up from the table that we reserved and we're seated at by staff for a Couple ( that is a different nationality ) and put me and my 9 guest to sit at an ottoman with NO TABLE NOR BACK SUPPORT like we were dogs. I can't help but believe that we we were racially profiled because nothing about this makes sense . I am very very upset and I DO NOT recommend for African Americans and other POC to NOT come here ! The waitress was very very rude and unprofessional!!!! We left because we refused to support a business that don't like BLACK PEOPLE ! When asked to speak to the manager she stood up and violated my personal space and bumped me a few time while proceeding to yell and get aggressive, while I was still trying to be polite!!!!! I went to this rooftop bar the other day before they opened to the public. The place is pretty spacious and the views of the city from up there are amazing. I enjoyed some of their delicious cocktails. I plan to go again and think everyone should go here at least once while being out in the city. read more

I live nearby so have been there twice. Simply put, it's super impressive. Has that same "impact" you get on any Chicago rooftop, but this one has a ton of firepits, good food and amazing 22nd-storey skyline views from the south looking west, north and east. So this is my second time at Vu. I originally went there when after they first opened and had a terrible experience. Despite loving the vibe and the space the service was just absurdly awful to the point I shared a knife with my boyfriend during our "meal" and never met our waitress. After vowing not to go back, I changed my mind and went back tonight. Tonight, reminded me that I shouldn't always be quick to judge. It's an upscale bar with a small neighborhood feel. The service was a 360 compared to my boyfriend's and my original experience. Our waitress, Emily, was very sweet and great to chat with. I had the gin drink and my boyfriend had the bourbon. Both of us described our drinks as clean, crisp and strong. The portions of the food are definitely worth the price. This isn't a place that gives you two bites and charges you $25. The music is fun dancing type of popular songs. Finally south loop has a place with an upscale vibe without being pretentious. Nice view and atmosphere but you have to pay $50.00 nonrefundable for the reservation. They need umbrellas for some of the outdoor seating. The crab mac n cheese was yummy but the hamburger was ick. It had salsa on it. The elevator was slow as hell and the poor hotel cleaning staff who were trying to use it had to keep waiting for an empty elevator. (Probably were told not to enter the elevator when Vu guests were on it?). The elevator stopped on 3 floors for the cleaning staff. They looked sick of waiting for an empty elevator. read more

Carlos, the manager, did an impressive job and created a welcoming atmosphere at Vu (pronounced View) for my friends and I when we showed up on a random Thursday evening. As a resident in the neighborhood of the bar, I was excited to have an option nearby. My first visit was not good. The outside service was nonexistent so we went to sit indoors in order to be able to order food and drinks. This defeats the purpose of having an outdoor rooftop bar in my opinion if you can't sit outside and get service. Once inside we had to flag down multiple servers in order to receive service. Once we finally got our food and drinks it was decent. I thought I would give it one more try before giving up on the venue, my husband and I while on a walk through the neighborhood decided to stop in and have a few drinks. Upon entering my husband was told that he could not wear the linen shorts he had on. This isn't the first time that I've heard the venue arbitrarily enforcing a dress code. The dress code is not posted publicly for anyone planning to visit the venue and this is done intentionally to discriminate against particular patrons. We will never go back. read more

WARNING-WARNING!: Was turned away for "NEW dress code". Had a small rip on the left side of my jeans was told they established a "new" dress code which means no ripped jeans. Not the type to go the race route but I noticed many other minorities being turned away while many WHITE patrons were allowed in with shorts, sandals and ripped shorts. Checked the website nothing is mentioned about a dress code. The dress code is a devious strategy to exclude minorities but it's VU that will lose in the end. read more

We came for the views and were met with a distasteful experience. I came here on the 5th of July to celebrate my birthday and I arrived before the rest of my party . We were to have about 15 ppl join us . We arrived and went upstairs and were seated . I can't remember the name of the hostess / waitress that assisted us but she was wonderful. A person in my party arrived and was turned down entry because he had on sneakers. I looked around the venue and literally 75% of the Patrons had some form of sneakers on , including the managers that I spoke with . I searched the website and yelp before we decided to attend Vu and there were no specifics on dress code , even on the door I just states . ( proper dress ) whatever that means. I showed the manager and the security all of the people wearing sneakers and he stated, the sneakers that the person in my party had on were "too sporty" . He was wearing yeezys , oh and a white button down shirts and black slacks ... Then to add insult to injury , a couple arrived and the gentleman also had on sneakers and he sided with us in our argument and the security guard went on to say .... I was going to let you up and deal with them ... it was at that point that we decided to just leave . And all of this was a new policy being enforced from that day on according to the managers . Had the chance to visit the VU rooftop bar in Chicsgo. Although they had a limited patio menu due to the pandemic, the food was delicious. We had the grilled jerk glazed shrimp, beef shortrib Flatbread, and chicken sandwich. The service was great, and the ambiance perfect for a romantic date nite. It was a little chilly so we did not sit outside, but our view of Chicago was still amazing inside. Can't wait to go back in the summer to sit outside, but I'm sure I will return before then. It went from never being more than 40% full to all of a sudden having a "waitlist" only to find once you get up that they aren't even full. I understand the bar has a dress code and it is not publicized. The policy is enforced arbitrarily and at the discretion of management. We attempted to enter with one member of our party wearing sandals. We were refused entry. A party entered right behind us and two members of the party were wearing sandal/flip flops and they were allowed entry. We had friends visiting from Naples, Florida and they were very disappointed. I have been to the VU rooftop many times and have always had a good time. Yesterday I had a completely different experience. A group of my friends and I had reservations for a birthday dinner. Mind you, the VU is charging $25 per person for a reservation during COVID. We paid the reservation fee and looked forward to the dinner. While I acknowledge there were many factors going in in Chicago yesterday (looting from the night before, and a tornado warning) the least VU could have done was called us to CANCEL the reservation. They did not have the decency to do so. We showed up for our scheduled reservation only to find that the VU was closed. And get this- they had no signs up even warning customers they were closed. We had to ask in the hotel if they knew what was going on! They informed us VU was closed for the day! How is that okay? No call, no voicemail, Nothing! We also had to leave them a voicemail to ask them to process our refund! I find it so rude that they did not think it was necessary to call their customers to let us know the place was closed. We are not unreasonable people, we would have understood why it was closed, but what is unacceptable is to charge a reservation fee and not update us on the closure. Do better!! read more
