We have thoroughly enjoyed our visits to this inn and the surrounding area and would recommend it to most anyone seeking tranquility, peaceful environs, great food, and excellent company. The Mendon Country Inn is an old stagecoach inn originally from 1843 and has spent time as an inn, a restaurant, and an antique store. I'm glad to say that the proprieters, Chef Gerard and Cheryl Clarke have retained the best parts of each of these to bring every guest a delightful stay. The inn itself has many period pieces in her rooms and Chef Gerard runs a restaurant in the Wakeman Dining Room. As it is new, we have not had the pleasure of dining in it yet, however we have partaken in his delectable full breakfasts each morning and savored a few of his special occasion meals. Our rooms of choice are at the Creekside Lodge, a Native American motif house with five jacuzzi suites with gas or Jensen fireplaces. There is a common room with kitchen, relaxation area, and fireplace on the main level and a common area with fireplace and sauna on the lower level. We enjoy waking up to the chirps of birds and the soothing sounds of the St. Joseph River. That is the calmness we have appreciated in our stays there. We also enjoy the rooms at the Innkeeper's Cottage off the main house. The main attraction for us are the innkeepers. Gerard and Cheryl are a wonderful couple from South Africa where they ran a game preserve. Gerard will keep you entertained for hours with stories of South Africa, the Amish, and the Inn, while Cheryl provides warm hospitality. Many weekends they also host events at the inn or elsewhere. We have been entertained by Irish folk singers, sampled wines from nearby Peterson Winery, and participated in an Amish meal with a nearby Amish family. Our travels in the surrounding countryside have included many stops in the rural Amish communities and stores, a trip to Michigan's longest covered bridge, horseback riding, the Southwest Michigan Wine Trail, canoeing, Peterson's Winery, and Shipshewana, IN, a Mennonite town. There are also golf courses, ski hills, and antique stores for those interested. The one knock on the inn could be that Gerard and Cheryl are still doing some upgrades to the inn since they purchased it from the previous owners. Each time we have been out we've seen the progress they have made, but occasionally there are small items that still need an upgrade. Just part of the charm of staying at a place with so much history. We heartily endorse the Mendon Country Inn and are certain you will enjoy your stay!

Andy & Nita are fantastic hosts. We arrived and were greeted by Andy who quickly showed us to his version of "afternoon tea" which was wine and freshly baked cookies. Oh.my.God. They were delicious! We were given a tour of the property, along with some history. Andy took his time in explaining a map of the city and giving his recommendations for things to do and restaurants. This was such a nice and personal touch. We stayed in the Michigan Room. It was so warm and cozy. We felt right at home. This B&B is the perfect blend of modern and vintage. It definitely had the original charm of the home. But, it also has great modern conveniences such as an Apple TV, USB wall chargers and a pretty amazing shower. Entrance to the house, and your room, is by a personal code. Again, super cool:) There are towels aplenty and the bath robes are made from the worlds softest material. The house is located on a very quiet street which makes relaxing so easy. Do yourself a favor and take a walk around the neighborhood. The charm in the surrounding houses sends you back in time. It's a short 5 minute walk to downtown or to the beach. Breakfasts were amazing! On day 1, we had homemade stuffed cinnamon swirl french toast, fruit and yogurt parfait, an egg souffle and organic sausage. Day 2 was homemade cinnamon rolls, bacon and a caramelized apple, pecan and brie omelette. Whenever Andy wants to cook for you, just say yes because it's going to be heavenly! It was so nice sitting with Andy and the other couple for some fun and informative conversation. This was, without question, the best Bed & Breakfast experience we've ever had. The property itself is situated right on Lake Michigan on Lake Shore Drive in St. Joseph, and it's been a B&B for several decades. The rooms are nicely furnished, and the view from the deck facing the lake is priceless. However, what makes South Cliff Inn truly spectacular are the owners. You will not find better hosts than Daniel and Allison. Their attention to detail and their personal touch are almost from a different era, and they are singularly focused on providing a memorable experience for every guest. When staying here, it doesn't take long before you realize that nearly every other guest (all week) is a repeat customer. Several of the other guests we met have been coming here for 20+ years, and that speaks volumes. We're already planning our next visit.
