Voodoo Doughnut is definitely a novelty spot to stop at, I've only really seen them at Universal Citywalks. We only grabbed 1 Bacon Maple Bar. It seemed fresh, fluffy, flavorful, not dry at all this time around compared to other times I've had Voodoo. But I've had better donuts for much cheaper. I was very let down by these doughnut :( they seemed so popular so I was very excited to go at first. But when we arrived, the service was quite poor and unwelcoming as well as the donuts being stale and honestly quite gross. The textures of the doughnuts were unpleasant and the flavors were very underwhelming. They were definitely not worth the high prices. The only redeeming qualities is the ambience itself is done quite well, the interior is very fun to look at and the rotating display of doughnuts was cool. Voodoo Doughnut is a really cool theme and the donut throne is the cutest picture opp. Last time I was here, the line was outrageous. This time not so bad. I had to try it and see what was up with this donut. I tried the voodoo doll which is basically a long John filled with raspberry and a pretzel on top, the other was the mango tango which is mango jelly filled. Both yeast donuts. They do also have cake donuts Mehhhh! The voodoo just tasted like a Dunkin Donut Long John with raspberry in the middle. Nothing wrong with Dunkin, I do like their long Johns, but the line is like saying this donut is everything and people are walking around Universal City Walk with pink boxes like it's their new baby. The mango tango(I love mango by the way), was too sweet and the mango jelly a bit artificial tasting. There's so much sweetness in these donuts and coming and from a sweet tooth, this is not a love connection. The people working were very nice and helpful. Some things are worth the hype and to me personally this is one of them. Just an all around great donut and I thought the prices were fairly reasonable giving the theme park location ($5 and change for two big donuts). Love the decor, would definitely go back. Also, the prices (especially for Florida and CityWalk in particular) are very affordable as I fully expected these to be $7-8 per treat instead of $3-4. Lastly, the staff was super friendly; we stopped in upon arrival at CityWalk, perused the selections and then headed out with a plan to return later. When we did a few hours later, the cashier remembered that we were there, saying, "Oh, you came back!" That is the kind of service you just don't see anymore. But unfortunately, the donuts at Voodoo just aren't all that good. I had a maple old fashioned and it had a good maple flavor but was a bit dry. I just wanted to update this review and say that it is still indeed a five star donut shop. In the past seven years, many boutique donut shops have opened up, giving Voodoo competition. Some of those shops have been absolute aces, unfortunately better than Voodoo, and some of them have taken things way too far and have turned the donut into an impossible to eat thing that requires a knife and fork and three dozen napkins to get through. Not my go to donut shop but always hits the spot when I'm around Universal or had been drinking in CityWalk. Love the selection and the pricing isn't necessarily cheap but also not crazy expensive. The team is usually very helpful and happy to answer any questions you have. I stopped by Voodoo to try some of their seasonal specialty donuts. I got the Peach Cobbler donut for Black History Month and the Valentine's Day chocolate cake donut. Service was super fast--by the time I stepped away from the register, my donuts were already boxed up and ready to go. The Peach Cobbler donut was my favorite of the two. The cake donut had a nice cinnamon flavor, not too strong, and it was super soft. The cream was thick and tasty, but I wish there was more peach throughout instead of just on top as a puree. The Valentine's donut was okay. The chocolate covered strawberry on top was really good, and I liked that part, but it kind of overpowered everything else. The actual chocolate cake donut didn't have much flavor, but the hazelnut crisp buttercream was nice--it reminded me of Ferrero Rocher. I love that they're doing special flavors for all the seasonal events happening right now, including Chinese New Year and Mardi Gras. I will have to say that the five star review I'm giving this place is really for the service more than anything. If you like donuts and it's fine however they are high calorie donuts and honestly if you don't eat them pretty soon after purchase, they taste a little dry and or stale, depending on the type of doughnut that you got. For example, I got the dirt donut and I ate a few bites at night shortly after getting it, and it was good. A few hours later, I took another bite and it was so dry that I ended up throwing out everything that was not the topping. The donuts are very large and can be shared by a few people unless you are very hungry and have a very big sweet tooth. The line does get very long for this location so you can either pre-order or expect to wait a little bit. The five star service comes from the line attendant who manages to get people moving very quickly. When we went to the other night, it was a young woman who was able to get us in and out of line in less than 15 minutes. I really appreciate the fact that the line look long she got people moving and you were able to enjoy the food that you just purchased. There's a lot of options for donuts here that will meet the taste of just about everyone. There's even glazed to the most elaborate donut you could think of. The store does accept cash, which is also appreciated because I did have cash to spend. There's also a lot of merchandise if you want to show people your love for voodoo donuts. The line itself a visual of all the donuts that are being sold currently as well as many menus just in case you cannot make up your mind. The decor of the location is very playful and very bright and really honestly makes you want to buy some of the merchandise. There is a bench inside, but it's really just for sitting when you're waiting for your purchase. if you're unable to stand in line for a while, I would recommend ordering an advance and you don't even need to go inside the location to pick up your donut because there is a stand right outside.
