The iconic Voodoo Doughnuts in the outskirts of Portland! Opted to visit this location on a holiday early evening as the hubby and I were visiting greater Portland. No lines at this suburban location! Ah, the pink spinning carousel of doughnuts is mesmerizing! Old Dirty Bastard doughnut: raised doughnut w/chocolate frosting, Oreos, and drizzled peanut butter. When I was watching the carousel spin, it had me at Oreos. And yes, they are paying homage to the late rap artist w/his namesake doughnut. Plain Cake: a classic! This cake donut was excellent and surprisingly my favorite. Perfect. A simple doughnut that I sampled in the evening and was still amazing with my coffee the next morning. Peanut Cake: another simple cake donut with chocolate and peanuts. Very good! Thankful I am not allergic to peanuts. Banana Cream Pie: custard-filled doughnut with banana cream frosting and a slice of banana topping. The custard cream is yummy! So if I were in town again, I would actually get the plain cake and try something new to me. The Marshall Mathers doughnut also caught my eye on the spinning carousel. It is an M&Ms doughnut and homage to the rap artist known as Eminem. And I would sample whichever doughnuts that the hubby chooses! Customer service was excellent. Love the pink decor. Good doughnuts, but we were shorted two. I ordered the classic dozen (supposed to be 13) for my family as a special treat and didn't open the box until we got home. Very cute but small space...only one table to sit at so must be more popular to take your donuts to go. Loved how they showcase the donuts in the spinning case. We heard these were the best donuts in the world, so we had to see for ourselves. The Memphis mafia was definitely the best donut I've ever tried. The rest were also great but very similar to a place in our hometown. The staff were knowledgeable and helpful. I'm glad we tried this place out. The McLoughlin Blvd. location thinks it's ok to order a lot of heavy items on instacart, including Costco sized cases of water, tip next to nothing and then stand there and watch as the delivery person struggles to get everything inside. Not even offering to hold the door open, which kept swinging shut in my face, but was told I wasn't allowed to prop the door open to make my life easier. There weren't even any customers in the store at the time, yet the staring mouth breather behind the counter just... stood there looking at me impatiently, rolling their eyes, then demanded I heft each case of water onto their high counter top. Being from the PNW originally, Voodoo Doughnuts holds the gold standard for doughnuts in my opinion. The crazy designs and quirky names are fun, but don't let that distract you from the quality and taste of the doughnuts! My go-to is always the Voodoo Doll, which is ironic as I don't like any other doughnuts with jelly filling. This one is just special! The balance of jelly filling to dough to chocolate glaze is perfection. The pretzel stick is the perfect accompaniment to cleanse your palette from the sweetness of the doughnut. Plus, it's a super fun design! If you are going to pick only one doughnut, this is it! I bounce between the Maple Cream (which is my second favorite) and other seasonal varieties depending on my mood. This time I opted for the Passionfruit Cheesecake as it sounded good and proceeds also went to the Humane Society of America, which is a soft spot for me! I was unfortunately a bit disappointed in this one as it lacked overall flavor. The doughnut had a bland cheesecake filling and while the passion fruit icing was bright and delicious, there was not much of it. This is the first time I have not liked one of the doughnuts from Voodoo, however. The inside of the store is super fun, with bright pink paint and cool art. It varies slightly from each location, but overall it embodies the keep Portland weird vibe! The guy taking my order was very friendly and the service was quick. Voodoo doughnut is always my first stop whenever I'm back home visiting and I love that there are many options throughout the Portland/eastern Oregon area so that I can get my fix! read more

The bubblegum pink building and box of doughnuts topped with all sorts or sugary craziness is a Portlandia icon. So many visitors to our state make the trip to the original downtown location and you see them carrying pink boxes on flights back to their homes. For locals, we know there are other locations where there are no lines and there is plenty of parking. Such is the Voodoo Doughnuts on SE McLoughlin. The building looks like the doughnut box, big, pink and square. Inside is bright and if possible, has more pink. You can see them making the doughnuts through a glass window and they have the rotating doughnut case so you can see what is fresh and available. I prefer my sweets on the less sweet side and at Voodoo, that's hard to find! Most are covered with lots of icing and then topped with sugary cereal or Tang powder or cookie crumbles or marshmallow or everything! For me, I go with the Portland cream, a yeast doughnut filled with vanilla cream and topped with dark chocolate glaze. One is enough for me! Or the famous bacon maple bar. There is a reason "bacon" comes first, with two full strips of bacon on the maple glaze, this doughnut is legit! The perfect salty-sweet flavor bomb! When I'm bringing them home for others to enjoy, I get my two faves and then pick 10 of the craziest. It's a bit further of a drive, but I do like this location and the one on NE Sandy. I am attempting to go to as many Voodoo Doughnut locations as I can. Maybe and eventually I will make it to all of them but we will see. From experience to cut down on waiting in line going to the locations in the Portland suburbs is definitely the way to go. Compared to the two Portland proper locations the lines are teeny tiny and sometimes nonexistent. This location had a very small line and by the time we left there was no line at all. If you want to experience the original location then go ahead and do it but clear some time out as the line will be significant. Many locals aren't into Voodoo Doughnuts so much of the customer lines are tourists but I still like the doughnut shop quite well. I've been to Voodoo Doughnuts enough times I am not really looking for the zanier doughnut varieties like the Voodoo Doll shaped doughnut filled with red jelly with a piece of pretzel stuck in it's heart (but it's good to try once) but the more basic doughnut types is where my heart lies. A favorite of mine is their Ring of Fire doughnut with a spicy hot chocolate goodness this doughnut is one I always buy. I also like their Powdered Sugar Doughnut. The other doughnut I fell in love with and haven't had in a long time was the Cinnamon Sugar Doughnut. That one was very good and I had that one along with the Ring of Fire at my visit to this location. Those basic ones I enjoy very much and I scratched another location off of my list. Looks like I may get another location scratched off when I go back to Colorado here in a few weeks which I am looking forward to. I was super excited to hear they were opening up a Voodoo Donuts on McLoughlin Blvd in Milwaukie. No long lines, parking availability and amazing donuts. What not to like! The interior is fresh in this existing mini mall. Pink pink pink and an excellent glass wall where you can see them making the donuts. Unfortunately they were out of Bacon maple so I got a chocolate coconut, apple fritter and a maple cream instead. I dug into the Apple fritter on the way home and it was so fresh with just the perfect amount of sweetness . Yummy! Right now they are open until 9 PM so grab a pink box to go. read more

No surprises, however they do have parking and short waits which is nice over their original downtown location. Wellll.. more than your neighborhood store that only has the standard fare, less than the rediculous premium prices some of the recent boutique places are charging without delivering any value or quality than voodoo in my less than humble opinion. Headline: pick whichever one of the baker's dozen assortments that comes closest to your taste, the budget basics, eclectic voodoo or special diet conscious vegan. These are set assortments, any variation and you are paying by the donut, no dozen discount (baker's dozen or 12). Skip the anxiety trying to figure out which if these donuts you may never have heard of, go with one of the three. Subhead:. I looked at what I thought was a maple frosted, crushed peanut topped donut to find out I should never assume. It wasn't maple, it was peanut butter on top. One was all I could eat, wishing I had a drink. The jelly inside was the perfect tribute to the pb&j only way better. I had recently driven from Sacramento to Spokane and on the way back down through Oregon, I decided to stop at the Fred Meyer for some more road trip snacks. To my surprise, there was a donut shop next door to it! Upon further inspection, I realized this was the place my sister had hyped up years ago. So obviously I found myself entering the building and admiring the gorgeous interior. It really is fun to look at while waiting in line to order. Service was somewhat friendly but it looked like it had been a long day for them. As someone who had never been there before, they recommended the Voodoo dozen, so I decided to get it. Every donut I tried was amazing. They were perfectly made, full of flavor, and had some unique ones that I was in love with. I tried a maple bacon donut which was crazy, as I had never thought bacon would go good on a donut. It's hard to make a donut shop stand out, but with a name like Voodoo, and with crazy flavors, they definitely have made their mark. I was very happy with my experience here and I highly recommend anyone who has never been here, to come give the donuts a shot. If you like donuts then there shouldn't be any disappointment to them. The tourist trap in Portland for foodies. This is a donut shop known worldwide for their creative styles of donuts. The voodoo doll donut I believe is the icon donut for this store. A jelly filled donut decorated like a little doll complete with a long pretzel stick for stabbing. Think Dana Carvey in Wayne's World. Other features include The Homer being the classic pink donut with sprinkles and others with toppings featuring cookies, cereals and even bubble gum. I haven't gotten Voodoo in a while, mainly because I'm never in the neighborhoods that their locations are at, so I'm super excited there's now one that's a bit closer! Located in the same area as Fred Meyers, it's great for those who are shopping, to stop in for a sweet treat. That's exactly what I did. I came in the summer when they had a special key lime donut, and it was probably my favorite one that I've had from Voodoo. Sometimes I feel like Voodoo is a bit too sweet for me, but this was delish. My other go to is the Oreo one. I also had a way better experience at this location than at others - the staff was super chill and friendly and the interior is funky & fresh. It also just feels more open and clean with more area to spread things out. I will be back to this location for sure! read more

On our way to visit a friend in Milwaukie, we needed to bring breakfast. I've been to the PNW many times, but have never made it to a Voodoo Doughnut! I was excited to find a location en route to our friend's and with curbside ordering to boot! Selected everything online, paid with a card and scheduled for pick up. Pulled into the parking space and called to let them know we had arrived. Easy peasy! Covid has done a lot of bad things, but one of the good things is making take out more efficient for customers (and hopefully businesses.)
