I'm writing to report a deeply inappropriate and unnecessary incident that I witnessed today, July 22, 2025, at Vons. While at the store, I observed an employee named Kathy direct foul language toward a young brown man, whom she automatically assumed had stolen roses through the self-checkout. She aggressively shouted the word "b*tch" at him and even approached the vehicle, nearly throwing herself toward the car window to ensure he heard the slur. This behavior was not only unprofessional but also humiliating and completely uncalled for. The situation was reported to the supervisor on shift, whose only response was to suggest calling the number on the receipt. This response was unacceptable and dismissive. No one especially a young person of color deserves to be publicly harassed or humiliated based on assumptions. VONS as a company should do a better job at protecting their customers from their aggressive employees from purchasing Pokemon products from its vending machine. I've only ever heard from word of mouth about a rude employee named Ricardo, but today was that day where I unfortunately ran into him. He was purchasing Pokemon products while on shift, something that is strictly prohibited, while cutting customers who waited much longer than him. The patrons I was with were calling him out about it, Ricardo retaliated by saying that he was going to get all of us kicked out. They Advertise a Price, for instance, $6.99 , then give you a little discount off retail, not the sale price, so they charge you $10.99 hoping you wont notice. They constantly advertise prices, but when you go to checkout, you end up paying close to retail! I have filed complaints with Chula Visa, the Attorney Generals Office. I don't like the new set-up, but I guess it's just a matter of getting used to it. The store is ample and clean, unlike Mission Hills, or even Coronado. Anyway, last August I make a purchase. Checker Paulina does NOT greet me or even say "thank you." Okay, some cashiers greet and thank you. Others greet you but don't thank and vice versa. BUT this is the first cashier/checker that has not done either. Worse still, she did not even give me my total!!! I'm not going to let one interaction change my opinion too much of a place that's on the same street that I live, and where I have a friend that works there, etc. I went through the self scanning line today and accidentally swiped a box of butter twice (I intentionally did it twice, but I only heard the beep once; in fact, I'm positive there was only one beep). So, I go to pay, and after everything has went through I see the additional charge. I mentioned it to the lady running the self checkout area and the look she gave me was like... a combination of derision and disgust, mixed with the slightest hint of amusement - She obviously found it very lame that she was going to have to refund me for my mistake. What it wasn't, was what I would have done over the 4 years I worked at Safeway (Vons equivalent up north) - which is, provide great customer service and help the person out. Rather than making her expend her energy and help me out, I just went and grabbed another butter and left. This Vons has a lot of great people working there. It's not as nice as it should be. This used to be my favorite Vons. I would go every Sunday morning. My job used to buy their bagels every Monday. The past few years this Vons has gone downhill. The quality of their bagels as well. They used to have NY style size bagels. Now they are smaller and very inconsistent. On my last trip they only had 1 cashier open and not all the self checkout machines were working. I pointed that out and didn't even get a response from the employee. The lines were huge, like Black Friday lines. My 2nd to last trip the bagels were not cooked enough and were doughy in the middle. Then my last trip they had some sort of small plastic piece attached to it. I always get the everything bagels. At first it looked like a large piece of salt but it was plastic. Rude self checkout attendant getting mad and giving attitude towards multiple customers, myself included, for trying to go to clearly open self checkout after previous customers left. Not aware of surroundings and getting mad because he doesn't notice them open and as such, not "calling people up." In his words, he doesn't know what's going on when people go to check out, but also doesnt have awareness. Seems like at least one item every trip is expired. Last bakery purchase made me and my friend incredibly sick, second from last ready meal purchase was covered in mold. My biggest complaint tho is the locked shelves. Multiple aisles individually locked is already a huge time waster. But Vons severely understaffed for this change. Their poor employees are pretty amicable and proactive about what must be a massive inconvenience on their part, but last time I was shopping they were constantly moving between customers because there simply wasn't enough for everyone. It took ten minutes to get detergent IN the detergent aisle because after waiting for an employee to kindly help me out, I realized I'd gotten the wrong brand and couldn't just take two steps to the right and switch them. God forbid I hurt Vons' bottom line. I hope they deter enough bulk resellers to make this worth it, because their prices are nowhere near competitive enough to start making online shopping more convenient. read more

I went to Vons at 5:13 PM, and what a freaking disaster that turned out to be. My wife likes to bring her own bags--big, lumpy ones, sure, but who cares? We grabbed some drinks and a few larger items, nothing crazy, just $120 worth of stuff. I mean, how much could that even be? I roll up to the self-checkout, ready to ring up my haul, when out of nowhere, this employee--apparently named "Jasmine" according to the other staff (she's the only one without a name tag, of course)--pounces on me like I'm some criminal. Picture this: a smug, self-satisfied grin plastered on her face, like she gets off on being a total jerk. She snaps at me, "This area's for 15 items only. Is that 15 items?!" I barely get a chance to open my mouth or explain that the cart's got empty bags for packing--oh, and by the way, I had 14 items (yeah, I counted after her little power trip)--before she's already acting like I've ruined her day. Here's the kicker: there's no sign anywhere saying "15 items or less." None! This chick was just rude for no reason, flexing her tiny bit of authority like it's her personal kingdom. Meanwhile, there's like five employees just standing around by the registers, chatting it up, doing absolutely nothing, while poor "Kathy"--the one cashier who was actually nice--didn't even have a bagger to help her out. Why the hell couldn't they open another register? A card-only lane? Something? Nope, apparently they'd rather gossip than do their jobs. This whole experience was utter garbage. I shop at Vons all the time--I actually love this place--but this made me feel completely unwelcome and unwanted. I've never complained about anything here before, but damn, this pissed me off. This is my local Vons and most employees are great however there is an employee in the deli who always, seriously always has a crap of an attitude. I cant ever read her name tag but she is an older woman with tattooed eyebrows and a long thin braid. Lots of jewelry like rings on. I asked her for some slice lunch meat one morning and she told me the slice wasn't opened?? On another occasion she asked me what I needed and I told her the man next to me was next and she rudely told me " I'm not asking him, I'm asking you." Honestly, this is the best Vons I have ever shopped at and probably the biggest. The aisles are wide, which I noticed isn't the same for many other grocery stores. The shelves are always stocked and the hot food section is pretty good too! Parking is plenty in the shopping center. They have Starbucks inside, like many others and workers are really nice and attentive especially when lines get long. Overall, best part is the stocked shelves and wide aisles so that you don't feel crammed shopping with others. read more

I am a long-time loyal customer of this Vons store on 14 Oct. 2023 I was making a purchase, and my cashier was Dario. He was rude. My Visa card was not going through. I had tried a couple of times and told him it would not accept my card. Dario was talking to the customer behind me. He told that customer. "I don't know what language she is speaking." I was speaking English. He should focus on the customer he is dealing with. I come to this store three days a week. My routine is a little shopping, a Starbucks coffee, and a walk for exercise. I was annoyed by her unsupported response, and proceeded to redo. When I spoke about my dissatisfaction with the system, Leslie then accused me of being rude; I disagreed, and said I was annoyed by the continued errors in the Vons system; I am the customer! I replied raising my voice. I felt intimidated by Cesar as he presented himself and with his direct posture, standing behind me, proceeded to give me directions not allowing me to vent. I honestly loved this store until some rude guy who worked there named Ricardo refused to blow up three balloons for my niece's birthday. It was 7-10 minutes before closing time in the balloon department, and he refused to blow up the balloons just to go on break. I was slightly disappointed with the lack of staffs from Vons tonight. I came in to buy a cake for my Mom and noone was available after 6 o'clock at the bakery, Thomas from the deli wasn't able to help me either because he had call the front for someone to come help but neither one of them could, so I asked for a supervisor her name was Kathy, who told me she already off the clock, and the person who she trained was underage so he couldn't be behind the bakery by himself, then they explained that person who could me was on break and would not be back in 15 minutes. So I left to Walmart next door and came back to the bakery, they already boxed the cake for me, I wasn't happy with the way they packaged the box either, they didn't fold the box right and jammed the price sticker on it, at least they didn't mess the cake, and at least I told them what I wanted, I'm sure any of them could do a simple task of taking the cake out of the display case and put it inside a box, but I don't know why they needed to be trained to do it, also the supervisor didn't care about customers, even if she was off the clock, why was she still standing at the check out line and didn't go home, pretty sure if she's the only one could help me, she could have run and grab me the cake, but they decided to let me wait then come back but still a lousy job. Vons has been my main grocery store that I have gone to mostly because of location for the past 5 years. While it's not the best or largest, most are pretty good and a few are very good. We came to this location on one of our trips to San Diego area. This Vons is a pretty good location for your basic shopping needs. It has all the same sections as any grocery. It has good produce, the deli is nice, and, it seemed, they have keep the regular aisles stocked pretty well. We didn't use the meat department but it looked good too. While this wouldn't necessarily be my only market. Vons has all you need for a regular grocery trip. read more

I don't know about this vons... Yeah good selection of drinks but maybe the location makes it feel just ugh. Associates not the friendliest and I have seen them in the parking lot on their phones while bringing in the carts... yeah I know it's a sick job but take pride in what you do right? Guess it's just kids even if they're adults. Worked in this shopping center where the Vons is located at so I was here almost daily. Soups are hit and miss. Also they don't check on them often so if it starts running low you will see it start to burn/stick on the bottom of the pot it's in and then no one wants that. The tomato is by far the best but it's almost never there. Bagels are god but some days I've had them and they're are perfect. Other days they felt like day old rock hard.... bad bakers or someone not following the recipe? If you're in the area and need some items stop on by, just be ready for long lines at times and weird baggers. read more

Out of all the Vons I've frequented, this by far is my least favorite one and with what I've dealt with lately at this location, I'm just disappointed. First off, it kills me when the baggers get distracted and don't bag all the items i've purchased. I end up coming home and seeing that some of the items on my receipt are missing from my bag. I'd much rather bag my own items. Just the other day I witnessed a bagger had accidentally bagged items that the customer didn't even purchase and were actually supposed to go back on the shelves. Luckily for them, the customer came back and returned the items because he thought it belonged to the customers that were behind him in line. Talk about a lack of communication between the cashier and bagger. Not even paying attention. SMH... In addition to that, items on the shelves should be checked before being sold because I came across a couple couple items today in the deli section with the seals broken and obviously opened. Now I really have to check the things I purchase from here plus the expiration dates and make sure they bag the correct items. Better yet, my family and I will just stop coming here to avoid their continuous mistakes at the check out line. read more

So I went in at 9am to get some breakfast at the deli...first, there was a guy ahead of me ordering, before the guy left the counter with his cart and food, the employee behind the counter was yelling over him asking me, can I help you? Can I help you? And when I say over him, I mean literally he was between us while he was rushing to get out of the way...like lady, have some courtesy and wait for the customer to leave and for me to step up. I don't want to yell at you through someone. Incredibly rude. Next, I ask for a breakfast burrito, again, it's 9am...and the employee behind the counter says "oh we don't do that right now." ....it's ....it's 9am. When DO you serve breakfast? She says at 10am when her other coworker comes in.... I managed a Safeway deli a couple years back (Vons parent company) and found this absurd. It's not that Vons doesn't do it until 10, it's that the only employee working the morning deli doesn't know how to make a super simple breakfast burrito. How is this employee not trained on how to make breakfast items when she works mornings? Sunday mornings in fact where I'm sure traffic is higher than weekdays...especially for breakfast. If I could give zero stars for this damn pharmacy I would! Always short staffed and one of the pharmacists has poor customer service! The pharmacist made me wait for 30 minutes only to tell me that she hasn't received the order (that my daughter really needs due to bronchitis) - and when I asked her to contact the doctor - she told me to do it myself and to have the order in by 8:30 (There was 5 mins left until 8:30pm) because they close at 9. Came to Von's to buy some cookies for work tomorrow which is Boss's Day so I grabbed a box of red velvet cookies for around $4.50. I also grabbed a Combucha tangerine flavor drink. Yum! They have so much to choose from and a lot of sale items. There were so many people at Von's today. I think everyone was grabbing cakes, cookies and sweet items for Boss's Day on Friday, October 16. If you have a Von's card, you save a lot more money. I only had two items so I got in the 15 items or less line which still was long but went by fast. I almost forgot my drink. Good thing the cashier reminded me to get my drink or else I would have forgotten. There's plenty of parking in front and it's easy to get in and out from this location! read more

Worst customer service and horrible bakery! I went to the bakery twice to try and get a cake. NO ONE asked if they could help me. In fact, these two ladies were yapping away until I finally said "Excuse me" after standing there for some time. No salutations of any kind. I did say good morning but instead, I got a look as if I was interrupting them. The cakes here have been dry and gross. I think they are old and they probably slap a new sticker on them. Going from the Vons in Camino Del Sur, there is a HUGE, notable difference. Also not sure why the quality of vegetables and some fruits is poor. I come here almost everyday because it's convenient for me since I live down the street. Whoever is running the deli area needs to use the concept First in First out. Too many times I've bought the pre- made sandwiches and the meat was old. Last night I bought roast beef sandwich and it was moldy. Do not buy pre made sandwiches. Also, the fruit is sometimes old.
