It was a very clean and well organized supermarket located at the Minaret Village Shopping Center at the corner of Old Mammoth Rd and Meridian Blvd. The prices weren't that much higher for a resort type area. I was in town for the Mammoth Half Marathon in late June and stopped in here for a bag of chips and a gallon of water. Everything was very easy to find. read more

In the case you are having your own "Gala" in Mammoth Lakes, Vons is a prodigious purveyor of handcrafted pastries, breads and they offer aged domestic to European cheese to pair with your "Rombauer." Service was superb e.g. I purchased a fall cupcake and it was thoughtfully packed in a pink chipboard box and handed to me. Wow! It's a delight to acquire everything from Sushi to Pizza and/or Dom Perignon to Coca-Cola at this upscale Vons. We have patronized this Vons location for the last three years. Courteous checkout and ease of using our Vons card, debit or cash. Bagging is provided and they provide bags for a small fee (just like Julius Meinl in Vienna). Opulent fresh fruits and vegetable section with a fabulous floral section that is on par with Gelson's. Overall a positive, warm and fuzzy experience here for all of my family. Good place to stop and get some groceries if you're staying at mammoth. Can be a bit busy, mostly because it's the main grocery store in town, but they will have EVERYTHING you need. We were impressed to find winter gloves here so I snagged some for skiing the next day. We also bought strawberries, snacks, and even some Sky vodka. We were impressed with the cost of the Sky vodka on sale for only $20 for a large bottle. This was a nice find! Also, the employees were helpful and check out was rather fast. My wife and I went to the Starbucks at this Vons on the morning of 8/27/23 and my father stayed in the car with our toddler. The wait at the Starbucks was extremely long so my wife asked me to go back to the car to help keep my son entertained. I decided to move our vehicle to the loading zone immediately in front of the storefront so my wife who is in the third trimester of pregnancy wouldn't have to walk far. Soon after an obese vons employee with a mullet walked in and complained aloud that someone was parked in the fire lane. My wife pointed out that her car was not in a fire lane but a clearly marked loading zone and told them that her husband was waiting for her in the car and this troll of a vons employee then told my wife she was entitled and privileged. I absolutely cannot believe that Vons would allow an employee, In uniform, on site to talk so disrespectfully to any customer, let alone a customer who is very clearly pregnant. read more

Really poppin' grocery store in Mammoth. You have been warned: lines during the evening can be very very long. Everyone's trying to buy supplies to cook or alcohol to bring back to their lodging. This is your typical neighborhood Vons... but they sell sleds & snow stuff here. Prices are also Von's club prices. Fresh produce and really delicious hot food (we always get their hot wings here - $6.99 / lb. about 12 pcs.) Great deli selection as well. Really friendly staff. read more

Clean Vons with Mammoth prices. A good place to stock up in your condo while taking a few days up to on the premier ski resorts in California. Came here to get some essentials, and yes, prices are higher than in the major cities, but they also have mostly everything you are looking for and it is a good size. It has snowed pretty hard the day and night before and I can say that the shopping center did an excellent job clearing the snow as early in the morning as possible. This will be a return place for future groceries while up in Mammoth. read more

This place is absolutely disgusting! There was stuff all over the floors (unattended), things from different aisles were all over the place, there were so many blank spots in every aisle, and the cashier that helped us was so beyond rude! Usually when we visit mammoth, we come to this Vons because it's the only store around here. It's always crowded, people are rude, and you'll wait in line for 15 minutes. Fortunately, going later in the day you can avoid most of that. The lines are short however, there's nothing on the shelves! I don't know how many times we needed something, went to that aisle, and there was a huge gap and no item we needed. The prices are jacked WAY up too! It's really too bad because I love the Vons back at home but this one is just a sad and disgusting excuse. Bring your reusable bags!!! They have plastic reusable bags for purchase if you need them! Nice Safeway-branch mountain store with the highest prices in the state besides San Francisco of course. Definitely still in the "70's size" building, small isles and even worse waiting times for checkout. They really need a bigger building and self checkout!! Employees are really great though, they should receive the 5 star rating! Parking is awful, mostly again because of outdated layouts and such. They always have someone doing carts, and it's usually the same older gentleman and he is such an awesome worker! Very nice and always a really helpful, hard worker!! The reason why I gave it a low rating is because I've bought 2 packages of cold meats from this store within two months and they were both terribly rotten. Not expired, so I'm not sure if it's even in their control to know but just the fact that I've now bought 2 items and had the same issue, someone has got to have notice of something going wrong. They do accept Apple Pay, and for that I gave them 3 stars instead of 2 or 1. Apple Pay is really useful when you forget your card at the checkout and all you have is your phone. Wow... I know it can probably be very frustrating providing customer service in one of the few grocery stores in a tourist town but, I have never felt so much hatred from a cashier and bagger. I knew the moment I said Hello and made eye contact with the cashier that they were unhappy(possibly angry) people. It was uncomfortable. The grocery bagger was equally unpleasant, didn't even acknowledge us. I don't even know why they stood there, they just kind of got in the way of us bagging our groceries. I would much rather go to the DMV on a busy day than interact with these folks. Other than the hostile environment, if you dont mind that, they had everything we needed. This time we were in and out pretty quickly. I won't be coming here again. These people lack common courtesy/manners. I get it, it sucks. I used to be a cashier(5 years) and now I work under pressure in a hospital were people's tempers go out the door because they're sick, cranky, and under stress. If I can muster the energy to have proper social skills and do my job efficiently so can these people. read more

This review is for their deli. The fried chicken I had gotten from their deli was so dry it was like miniature/shrunken. I have gotten fried chicken at other Vons and it is good so imagine my disappointment. We also go rotisserie chicken and I swear, there was not an ounce of salt or seasoning. Cmon... Only reason we came here is because we were desparate for snow chains in our size. They had them. At a ridiculous price!!! I feel raped... My coworker put me on this weird diet which prevents me from eating out . So after my friends ditched me to pig out on Mexican food, I was stuck going grocery shopping and cooking my own food. Now, I thought only Whole Foods is capabilty of taking Whole paychecks... this Vons takes 2 paychecks at a time. Meat was not a quality cut and also turning brown. I bought milk, OJ, wine, salmon, wet wipes, bananas and with a Von's card prices were not as expensive as one would think it would be in a mountain tourist town. it is cramped, crowded and busy...took 15 minutes to get the salmon from the fish dude. It was a special, wild sockeye and it looked the best compared to the non-special tired looking fish. Recommended if you need to pick up some forgotten supplies. Located up in the mountains of Mammoth this Vons has all that you need if you are on a budget when it comes to food. Like all Vons they have great deals on certain items and it is pretty cheap. We ended coming here twice during our three night stay and bought a lot of breakfast food so we didn't have to go anywhere to eat and ride the whole time! You almost have no choice being a fan when it's the only place for groceries in town. That I saw anyway. But that's not the reason for me - I actually had fun at this Von's. I popped in with a friend last weekend to pick up some things for dinner - yes, I didn't eat out, me - who can cook, but never does - helped prepare dinner with my friend for us and our condo mates. Normally, I would comment that using the PA for random announcements was not professional but in this case - it just added fun to the shopping experience. Calling out employees birthdays and then following up with quotes and a little singing. Calling out specials - one which we grabbed which we wouldn't have known about had we not heard about it. The manager of the meat section helped out my friend with the entree of the night. Not only with picking something out, but also suggesting how to season and prepare it. Which by the way, seemed to be a hit with our group. I was busy checking out the Mammoth Beer selection as well as just poking around and talking to other people. The person manning the register when we checked out wasn't as friendly or talkative as the other employees were but she was doing her job. Can't ask for more than that. Place was busy and I can see parking being a little bit of an issue but there's a lot of spaces if you don't mind walking. You will find everything you possibly need, though at a premium because, well, you're in the mountains and its pretty much the only choice. A head of lettuce will run about $4, prepackaged salads even more. Fruit will cost the same as organic produce elsewhere, and the meat isn't much better. I have been coming to this Vons for many years and I have never seen the store ran so terribly. I went in looking for balloons and the sign said to go to customer service to get an employee to help. So I walked over to the customer service desk, there were no employee tending it, soon the female, evening time, manger approached me very aggressively. I then asked her about getting help with the balloons and she responded very rudely with, "We don't do balloons after 4pm." So I asked why the sign did not say that and she responded with, "I don't know, we don't do balloons after 4pm, and actually I don't have to explain anything to you, you can leave now." And before I could answer with anything and as I started to walk away she yelled racial slurs at me. I do not appreciate these insults and believe that this manger needs to be spoken to. She was extremely rude and aggressive to me, and needs to start treating customers with respect. read more

Today's visit was like no other before. I've never left this store so mad and disappointed. I am always taken care of when I'm at this location. However, I sadly got into Margie's line. I had never met Margie before and frankly I now wish I hadn't. I had two transactions and needed two receipts because I scan my receipts and one of the receipts is for my bosses transaction. Margie handed me one receipt and when I asked for the other one she said no. Me "can I get the second receipt Margie?" Her "No, I just threw it away." Me "laughing bc this is crazy) and said ok can you get it for me?" Her "no I'm not digging in the trash, I thought you didn't want it and I throw peoples trash away all day long." Me "well I didn't tell you I didn't want it and it's your job to give me my receipts." She then laughed and said "oh it's my job is it." Well yes last time I checked it is the cashiers job to ask if a receipt is wanted. Not rocket science. She then told me "you can get it out of the trash." She then picked up a box filled with receipts and put it on the conveyer belt and said "here you get it I have more customers." I got my receipt however it took an arm and a leg and now I am so mad. Another FLAT TIRE. If you come to this Von's beware, they know you are coming. All the things you need like paper towels and plastic cups will cost you. The Meat dept. sold me two rib eyes for $40 that tasted liked roast Baloney. The bakery is huge and has a million loafs of bread that are the same bread, no variety, not a Rye Bread in sight. Vegetables are fine, if you like vegetables. The deli dept. has a million styles of salami and one pepperoni. These guys obviously know who there customers are, Europeans that don't care how much something costs and will never be back. I feel sorry for the people that actually live here. read more

We are Mammoth home owners for 20+ years and have watched this Von's transform to one of the best markets in the country. The personnel has been pretty much the same including checkers, meat department, shelf stockers and know me by name even though we only visit a few times a year! With the huge SoCal influence in Mammoth they have adapted to the needs of their customers. The bread section offers more organic brands and selections than my Whole Food market in Southern California. Wide selection of organic juices, produce, fruits, vegetables, nuts, meats even organic Mission tortillas in white and wheat options that my local Vons does not carry. Had a wedding party for my niece this summer and decided I'd pick wildflowers on my street instead of buying flowers in SoCal and transporting. However, upon arriving in Mammoth and hitting up the Vons for a few items ended up buying these adorable sunflowers in Mason jar arrangements. Vons has it all plus some. Only down side is they run out of certain items during busy season, but if you shop smart hours it's not a problem! Love love this place and the people. read more

The employees at this market are doing something FISHY. We shopped there last night for a few items , $23 worth. The next day we checked our bank statement and had a $141.32 CHARGE. We didn't receive our receipt, so we had no proof of purchase. When we called, the manager FERNANDO was making it very difficult at first to fix the situation. When we explained the situation and the women who rang our groceries up(didn't get her name she is short Mexican lady), he said it was IMPOSSIBLE that she rang us up because she wasn't work at 4:23 pm (the time we were there) we explained that THAT IS EVEN MORE IMPOSSIBLE because we had a WHOLE CONVERSATION with her about the city and what not. So finally Fernando agrees to check the camera. And calls us back. He says that we were accidentally charged for the persons groceries behind us. Sounds like a weird reason but is possible. so we go back to the store to get our refund of $120. The first thing Fernando says is that SOME HONEST MAN CAME IN EARLIER IN THE DAY BECAUSE HE WAS UNDERCHARGED FOR HIS GROCERIES. IF THIS WAS THE CASE WHY DIDNT THEY REVERSE OUR MIS-CHARGE IMMEDIATELY??? WHY WOULDNT FERNANDO RECALL THAT THIS MAN CAME IN AND PAID HIS MISCHARGED BILL THE FIRST TIME WE CALLED AND COMPLAINED ABOUT OUR OVERCHARGE??? FUTHERMORE, FERNANDO SAID THAT A MAN CAME IN TO PAY HIS UNDERCHARGED BILL, when WE CLEARLY REMEMBER A WOMAN WAS BEHIND US IN LINE. The WHOLE situation made no sense and was very suspicious. AND FERNANDO would not stop talking during this whole encounter and seemed nervous. WHAT IS GOING ON AT THIS STORE? I'm not sure but it sounds like they are mischarging people thinking they wouldn't notice. And maybe making a scheme out of all this?? Keeping the extra cash that they are overcharging people?? The manager Fernando and the women who rang us up both seem to be involved in whatever this is. I just hope that they don't get away with this as it seems that they have been so far. if they ask "do you want your receipt" say yes.
