BLACK PARTICLES (RAT $#!+) FOUND IN GROUND BEEF! STAY AWAY FROM THE 80/20 BEEF, AND EVERYTHING ELSE FROM THE DELI FOR GOOD MEASURE! I purchased about a pound of the pre packaged 80/20 ground beef on 5/7/17. On 5/8/17 I started cooking it for dinner. It went straight from the packaging into the pan for browning. I noticed a black chunk while stirring the beef and removed it curiously. Then I started noticing more and more black chunks.... I called Vons immediately and was on hold for over 5 minutes before I was able to speak to a human, the assistant/associate manager. I told her " I think I just found a bunch of rat crap in my ground beef I bought at your Vons last night." The response I got was shockingly underwhelming. Completely unaffected, she asked if I wanted to bring the meat back to the store for a refund and so the DELI could see it the next day and know what to look for in there meat.... What do you mean "know what to look for"?!? Look for "NOT MEAT" in the "Meat." Shut it all down! Rush over to that section so you can prevent other customers from picking up infested products... Do anything beyond telling me you are helping another customer and asking me to just come in and speak to the actual manager who can give me a refund! Uggg Last night was just the fecal icing on the cake. Several of my pastpurchases of meat from this DELI had clearly been tampered with, meaning the outer layer of meat in the package was either fresh meat or dyed red, while the internal layer of beef was grey... Once again, I've had an excellent experience at this Vons. I visit the deli regularly. Today, Ron helped me and he was knowledgeable and very helpful. The employees at this Vons are all polite and willing to help. Also, I had occasion to use the restroom the other day, which was very clean and well stocked. Kind of sketchy at night time. I was one of the last I'd say about five people in the store and they announced that they're closing and I was making my way to the front registers and stopped T the water aisle to throw a case of water bottles in my cart and the security guard decided to take the time to tell me the store is closing(like I didn't know that...?) and stood there while I struggled to get the heavy item in the cart. The worst Starbucks in a grocery store I've been to. The wait wasn't bad but the older woman (she looked older than 40) who works there had an attitude when she asked for my order. I get it, it's hot and you only have one other person working but that doesn't mean to give out shitty attitudes towards a paying customer. I also bought 2 chocolate cake pops (they were warm and tasted disgusting) like they've been sitting out. The dirtiest and absolute nastiest grocery store I've ever been in...eaten chicken drumsticks on the shelves from their hot food department...open and half consumed gatorades and soda cans on the shelves...often smells of urine in the food aisles...don't be surprised if someone strolls past you with a non-service dog inside of the cart with their bottom sitting right where we're supposed to store our food...and frequently out of the basics such as popular water brands, spinach, popcorn, shredded cheese, etc. But the biggest negative is the employees. I called before 5pm to check times on when money orders were available. I spoke to a supervisor and was told they do them until 7 pm. I drove from Los Alamitos to the traffic circle location and arrived at 6:05pm. The same supervisor I spoke to over the phone is the same person I spoke to in the store. He was busy with a customer so I waited. When she walked away, I asked for the money order. This guy was rude and kept cutting me off. I told him that I had just spoken to him and that he told me 7 pm. I told him I came over from Los Alamitos... he could care less. His only response was that he could not do it because he had no people... just kept repeating it. I said, "You have got to be kidding me!" Have you ever found yourself walking around a downtown city area at night, fearing that at any moment you may be mugged, harassed by crack addicts or pestered by the homeless for spare change? Well, when I used to shop at the downtown Long Beach Vons, I would always get that uneasy feeling. And I'm not talking when I was walking to the store. I used to get that feeling while actually shopping in Vons. Every aisle was infested with creepy crack heads, thugs and homeless folk. In fact, I wouldn't even let my wife shop there alone. That place WAS the worst store in all of the LBC! The shelves we never fully stocked. The bakery and meat departments were a joke and the store itself was a total mess. Then this filthy, disgusting, Vons closed its doors for a few months for a MAJOR remodel. NOW this is one of the best grocery stores I have ever shopped at. The structure itself is huge. The inside of this Vons is double; maybe even triple the size of the original one. They have a large, beautiful bakery that actually makes gourmet style cupcake, cakes, pies and fresh baked bread. The meat and fresh fish counters are very nice as well. They even have a large Starbucks with its own small dining area with Free Wi-Fi. The big parking lot for this store is now located on top of the store itself, which is awesome. Another great thing about this Vons is the security guards make their presence known. I had to make an emergency run here for the following reasons: 1. Sunblock 2. Water 3. Pain reliever It was closer to me than any CVS, Rite Aid, and Walgreens so I didn't have to think twice. Plus I could purchase my coffee (Starbucks in the store) at the same time and just get it out of the way. Right on a busy thoroughfare and close to others staying right on the main road facing the waterfront. Vons out here is the equivalent to our Safeway in NorCal so the layout was an exact mirroring of what I am use to. Found my three items and also grabbed a coffee on my way out. Staff were efficient and the Starbucks lady was nice. A smile goes a long way! The majority of the reviews made me laugh regarding crackheads and homeless but apparently they don't get up at 6 am in the morning. That action might be more rampant in the evenings but I did run into a homeless crackhead woman yelling to the cashiers requesting to use the restrooms. There were a bunch of security guards too so it felt relatively safe. Hopefully, the experience in general here isn't as bad as the rampant crazy, cussing and sometimes violent crackheads on Muni and Bart. Those are ten times worse. This place hires the most unprofessional staff ever. I went into this store with my partner last night, and I was trying to purchase a few things. My partner wanted to get a few lottery tickets but needed change, as the machine would not dispense the difference in change. When he asked the cashier for change, the cashier rolled his eyes at him and flat out said "no" and continued to have his conversation with another co-worker. My jaw literally dropped, and I was completely appalled by the cashier's behavior. I thought he was joking at first and realized he was being serious. Honestly, this wasn't the first time I've been in this store to only see a bunch of unprofessionalism. Another time I was here, the workers were swearing and talking about how they were going to party that evening while ignoring the fact that guests were listening and viewing this type of behavior. I used to live in Long Beach when I was a kid. That isn't relevant at all, but hey, there's a tidbit of knowledge for ya! Anyways, this Vons was kind of creepy, and I was there in the daytime. With my buddy who is six and a half feet tall and 250. And still, I felt uncomfortable. Wow, am I a wuss or what. But this Vons did kind of disappoint, it give off the vibe of staleness. And there's no deli, so I couldn't even buy myself a pre-made sammich! Disappointing. But they did have a good standard selection of booze, so I guess that is a decent thing about this store. I love shopping at this Von's mainly because of its location. It's one of the few grocery stores in downtown Long Beach and it's only a few blocks from where I live. They have a nice selection and usually have everything I'm looking for but at a higher price than what I usually pay at Trader Joe's or Ralph's. I wouldn't suggest buying all your groceries here but definitely a few items. It's worth it to sign up for the discount card as the points adds up and can be used for discounted gas prices at the Von's gas station by the Traffic Circle. A few weeks ago the assistant manager Jessica started yelling at me to get out of the store because they were closed. I walked in and went right to the pasta isle for one item at like 10:55 I get that it's frustrating when you wanna have all the registers closed before 11pm and that doesn't always work out because the doors are open until 11. She was pretty rude and the time was when I was leaving and she followed me through the isle and kept saying we closed you can't check out. I said okay that's fine multiple times and she continued to follow me. Now every time I go in there she follows me and harasses me. Omg-this is the worst dark and dingy Von's I have ever been too. Since parking in LB is almost non-existent, left my car and walked to Von's. The front of the store is dirty, no cart or small little baskets-guess they want you to put your stuff in your recyclable bag from home while shopping. I stopped here after my dinner at Roscoe's and its actually a very nice, well stocked Vons. I didn't buy any groceries, but I did go up and down the aisle, purchases a few birthday cards, and even got gift cards (for gas points, and to give as gifts). The reason for 2 star review (and not more) is their gift card section posted "4X" points on select gift cards, and even posted "save $15" if you buy $100 in iTunes. So I got 2, $50 iTunes and a $25 Amazon cards (for the 4X) but when I was rung up, I didn't get the $15 off, nor was my gas points reflected for the points. It was late, and there was a line, so I didn't bother to bitch about the $15 or the points, but I felt Vons computer system should be more accurate, or, take down the signs if they're wrong. Otherwise great selection of gift cards, and, they even have $50 Chevron cards, which is a rarity in many Vons. Also, because its Long Beach/ LA, *** bring your own reusable bag **** There's no free bags here in the LBC and its like 10cents per paper bag if you need them to bag it. read more

This Vons is open until midnight. It's one of the main reasons for the 5 star rating. Even if you are stuffed after a big meal, you still have time to go get something sweet from the pastry department or a cold craft brew if that's what your into. The place is well stocked, clean and well lit all the time. Self check out also makes it a breeze to run in and out. They have a private parking lot on the roof which is a blessing here in Downtown Long Beach were parking is always an issue and hard to come by. The staff are also really energetic and polite. I'm a big fan of there seafood selection too. The Salmon, swordfish, and Ahi Tuna always look so fresh and taste just as good as they look. I just wish I could take my Boston Terrier in there with me but even a dog friendly neighborhood like LB won't allow that. read more

Worst Vons in Long Beach! If you have to go to Vons for grocery shopping, I recommend going to the one on Ximeno instead (they seem to have better management there that care). Cleanliness: the entrance is always littered with trash, probably from all the transients due the bus station right out front; however, nothing is done by the store to remedy this problem. The sidewalk and outside perimeter is always filthy, reeks of urine and loitered with bums. The bathrooms are disgusting, littered with trash (surprise, surprise) and looks like it has been attended in years. Inside the store: I've actually stopped shopping here because they never carry the items I need. They actually do carry these items; however, they're always out of stock; and when you inquire with a store representative, they don't know. There are always stacks of product and palates in the back of the store (doesn't matter the time of day) it's like an obstacle course in the back of the store navigating through through all the stock that should be shelved but who knows what's going on back there. I have friends who call this location Soviet Vons. It's what I think a grocery store would look like following the announcement that a nuclear war was imminent. Barren shelves, dazed hobos wandering the aisles, signs in the parking lot threatening you with certain death if you even think about taking one of their precious shopping carts. I heard once that they ran completely out of diapers. As someone else noted, they're closing after this weekend to remodel and plan to reopen in the fall. However, this weekend only, they're doing something that I've never heard of a major chain grocery store doing: they're running a 50% off sale for everything in the entire store. I have to say that this Vons has it's pros and cons. Although the only cons I can think of is not being open early on the weekend so that I can get my Starbucks coffee and making me drive more... lol. The food is exceptional, the pastries are divine and the quality of the products is top notch compared to other Vons. I like that the parking is not street parking and fortunately I didn't have any issues with the parking although you would think it's too small but it somehow seems to work out.
