the store is deteriorating, unfortunately. starting with the stairs going down from the parking deck, not cleaned in months. same with the elevator. dirty and smelly. what bothered me most is that the self checkout scanning area was not wiped off for weeks and dirty. asked an employee whether this could be cleaned by the cleaning crew. he laughed at me and repeated sarcastically "cleaning crew". as i stayed seriously and showed him the dirt he told me they would get to it as soon as they can to cam me down. this vons is the worst and really disgusting. only go there for the pharmacy but am reconsdering as it is disgusting!! read more

My review is based on the girl who rang me up, I wish I knew her name Black women, lighter complexion, short hair. I'll go back and update this. Anyway this woman is a cashier and she's truly the sweetest person in there. I've been to the store a few times and nobody is nicer than her. She smiles, is happy and makes every customer who she rings out feel special. It was the first time I experienced this, at this particular location. This is the most accessible grocery store near me, so I often have no other choice but to come here, it's never been great, but it's horrible now. I'm not going to speak much on the "ambiance" because it's a grocery store in downtown Long Beach, you can't expect it to be anything other than chaotic. That's not the issue. My first big issue is the price gouging. A good example is soups I used to buy here were about $5 a pack, they took them away for a few months and they came back at $12.99 a pack. I know inflation is a thing, but they're about $7 at Ralph's on 4th. The pricing here is predatory. My second big issue is the quality control. Make sure to inspect your produce really thoroughly and do not get produce that's packaged in bags. There's a really good chance it will be moldy (I got an onion, and it was black on the inside when I sliced it open the same day). Check the expiration dates! I'm really happy I thought to check yesterday (Sept 8) because the lunch meat I was about to buy expired in early august. Some of the employees here are lovely. Most of them seem annoyed if you have a question, but that's neither here nor there. I feel really silly leaving a review on Von's but this location is getting out of hand and they clearly don't care about the community they serve. Go to Ralph's on 4th if you're able. They're more affordable (though not cheap, but nothing is these days), their products are high quality and the staff is all fantastic. read more

I have since stopped going to this location. I went in last week with a friend. She grabbed a basket. There are non service dogs all over the store. I look over and here comes a Doberman. My friend has her basket on the ground to get something. Dog pees on her basket. I've been trying to get her to call the Health Department, but she doesn't want to cause trouble. I really wish they would be specific enough that I wouldn't have to find out the FINE PRINT of it all. This has nothing to do with the workers or even this particular store. This is about a companies inability to clearly state that certain items are apart of the deal that they are advertising. I grabbed a fruit bowl (the prepackaged ones) and the tags said buy two get one free of equal or lesser value. To me that means should include the giant salad bowls that are also in the display case. This place is ridiculous! Definitely needs to replace the store director. Obviously he/ she is incapable of handling the store effectively. It has 6 registers but only 2 are open and even when the lines extend down the isles, do you think a manager opens another register? NOPE. Went to the store to get food. The security guard was nice cause he saw me walking around looking for what to eat from my vacation. He recommended wings. I am not good with situations of talking to random people. I went back a few hours later for more food. I don't usually go to Vons but today I did because it's one of the closer grocery stores to my home. I got my beer and bean dip and I saw no one standing in line so I went underneath the barrier to get rung up and Glen the cashier decides to call me out in front of everyone "sir sir there's a barrier for a reason and you completely bypassed it" . So I go "yeah I saw no one standing in line so I figured Id just dip underneath " glen goes "sir you have to wait to be called up" I go " alright so you want me to go ALL the way around and stand there to be called. Gotcha" I didn't know there was a screen that told customers which cashier to go to since I rarely ever go to a vons. So...i wait Glen calls me up He starts ringing up my beer and bean dip And then some guy with a bunch of groceries is standing right behind me all of a sudden as I'm doing my transaction and I don't see Glen yell at him. Didn't say a word... Glen, don't yell at your customers in front of everyone like they know the process at your store and if you are ...at least be consistent so you don't make yourself look like an ass. Returned to this Downtown location after over a year because I like their sushi selection. That was a huge mistake on my part. Items not in stock even if website claims they are. Handicapped electric carts are all but gone. They had 7 but now down to ONE because the homeless stole the other 6 and can't seem to get new ones ordered. Outside dirty and full of homeless people and tents in the rear of the store. Men's bathroom disgusting. toilet was arm deep in shit, like a group of homeless came in one after another and crapped without flushing. No running water in the sink. Complained to Manager. She is obviously not ready or equipped to handle her store and her position in management. This store needs to be closed. There is a reason why it called "GHETTO VONS". The two stars are only for the fact that this Vons is conveniently located with rooftop parking, six self checkout lanes and the staff is friendly (most of the time). That's where the good news ends. The bad news? Well let me tell you. I come here often... or at least I'm trying not to anymore. I actually walked out of the store yesterday after picking up a few items. This place never keeps its shelves stocked! You can ask my fiancé, every time we go to this store I can be found repeatedly saying "this Vons sucks," and "I hate this Vons" ...he gets annoyed. There's nothing more frustrating when you're trying to get everything you need for a recipe and they don't have 2 out of the 6 things on your list simply because whoever is in charge of the ordering can never seem to get it right! And not a single hot roast chicken available at 7:30pm on a weeknight (and the deli says, nope! no more are cooking!)??? I cannot say enough good things about our neighborhood Vons and especially about Denise Hahn incredible staff. My husband is extremely disabled and this is our store and he's there couple of times a week on his mobility scooter. Everyone there is so kind and courteous and helpful and they make sure that he is taken care of that he can reach things get what he needs and get in and out of the store safely we are so grateful. Denise and her crew are amazing. Her daily post on Instagram are so helpful. I don't normally leave reviews but this is about expired creamer that should have been pulled off the shelf 2 and a half weeks before I bought it. I don't know how anyone can miss 2 weeks of not looking at dates. It shouldn't be the customers job to check dates. I learned my lesson of course. But I also tried reaching out to ask about a refund since I tossed the receipt. No answer whatsoever. They need to do better here. I gave 2 stars because it's mostly clean whenever I go there. It would even be 3 stars but I'm upset because coffee and creamer is a big part of my mornings so I'm disappointed. I would only go here as a last resort. Came to this Vons on April 2, 2020 Thursday, to do a money pick up from Western Union, Adrian assisted me, he said there's not enough money to issue me the amount I'm receiving.. so I left my number with him to call me when they do have enough money from customers so that I can come back to pick up my money at a later time rather than waiting here. That was when Zach, Told me about this place right around the corner that has Western Union. Zach Gave me the name of the place including the cross streets, I went there right after I left Vons. It was exactly where Zach said it would be, they were open and they have Western Union, I was able to pick up my money transfer there. BLACK PARTICLES (RAT $#!+) FOUND IN GROUND BEEF! STAY AWAY FROM THE 80/20 BEEF, AND EVERYTHING ELSE FROM THE DELI FOR GOOD MEASURE! I purchased about a pound of the pre packaged 80/20 ground beef on 5/7/17. On 5/8/17 I started cooking it for dinner. It went straight from the packaging into the pan for browning. I noticed a black chunk while stirring the beef and removed it curiously. Then I started noticing more and more black chunks.... I called Vons immediately and was on hold for over 5 minutes before I was able to speak to a human, the assistant/associate manager. I told her " I think I just found a bunch of rat crap in my ground beef I bought at your Vons last night." The response I got was shockingly underwhelming. Completely unaffected, she asked if I wanted to bring the meat back to the store for a refund and so the DELI could see it the next day and know what to look for in there meat.... What do you mean "know what to look for"?!? Look for "NOT MEAT" in the "Meat." Shut it all down! Rush over to that section so you can prevent other customers from picking up infested products... Do anything beyond telling me you are helping another customer and asking me to just come in and speak to the actual manager who can give me a refund! Uggg Last night was just the fecal icing on the cake. Several of my pastpurchases of meat from this DELI had clearly been tampered with, meaning the outer layer of meat in the package was either fresh meat or dyed red, while the internal layer of beef was grey... But finding fecal matter in my food is the proverbial straw that literally shit in my dinner. read more

The employees at this Vons are all polite and willing to help. Also, I had occasion to use the restroom the other day, which was very clean and well stocked. I called before 5pm to check times on when money orders were available. I spoke to a supervisor and was told they do them until 7 pm. I drove from Los Alamitos to the traffic circle location and arrived at 6:05pm. The same supervisor I spoke to over the phone is the same person I spoke to in the store. He was busy with a customer so I waited. When she walked away, I asked for the money order. This guy was rude and kept cutting me off. I told him that I had just spoken to him and that he told me 7 pm. I told him I came over from Los Alamitos... he could care less. His only response was that he could not do it because he had no people... just kept repeating it. I said, "You have got to be kidding me!" The worst Starbucks in a grocery store I've been to. The wait wasn't bad but the older woman (she looked older than 40) who works there had an attitude when she asked for my order. I get it, it's hot and you only have one other person working but that doesn't mean to give out shitty attitudes towards a paying customer. This was after I asked for her to delete an item for me and after my Vons card didn't work and she was frustratingly moving me to another checkout station and trying this and that. A few weeks ago the assistant manager Jessica started yelling at me to get out of the store because they were closed. I walked in and went right to the pasta isle for one item at like 10:55 I get that it's frustrating when you wanna have all the registers closed before 11pm and that doesn't always work out because the doors are open until 11. She was pretty rude and the time was when I was leaving and she followed me through the isle and kept saying we closed you can't check out. I said okay that's fine multiple times and she continued to follow me. Now every time I go in there she follows me and harasses me. I told her to let it go and she isn't willing to I told her if she kept following me and loudly harassing me every time I came in and went to self check out I would report her and she didn't care told me to go ahead. She's mad I recorded it on my phone literally just to show the person I was picking it up for what happened and has continued to make snide remarks and even confronted me in the women's bathroom. Absolutely I hinged behavior for weeks all because I came into the store at 10:55. I've always been polite to her and have continued to either ignore her or be polite and she continues to follow me anytime I go in there. The dirtiest and absolute nastiest grocery store I've ever been in...eaten chicken drumsticks on the shelves from their hot food department...open and half consumed gatorades and soda cans on the shelves...often smells of urine in the food aisles...don't be surprised if someone strolls past you with a non-service dog inside of the cart with their bottom sitting right where we're supposed to store our food...and frequently out of the basics such as popular water brands, spinach, popcorn, shredded cheese, etc. But the biggest negative is the employees. I don't care how politely you ask for assistance or if they have any of a specific item in stock in the back; they appear completely annoyed and bothered by your presence. This place hires the most unprofessional staff ever. I went into this store with my partner last night, and I was trying to purchase a few things. My partner wanted to get a few lottery tickets but needed change, as the machine would not dispense the difference in change. When he asked the cashier for change, the cashier rolled his eyes at him and flat out said "no" and continued to have his conversation with another co-worker. My jaw literally dropped, and I was completely appalled by the cashier's behavior. I thought he was joking at first and realized he was being serious. Honestly, this wasn't the first time I've been in this store to only see a bunch of unprofessionalism. Another time I was here, the workers were swearing and talking about how they were going to party that evening while ignoring the fact that guests were listening and viewing this type of behavior.
