It's my first visit to Vons since they closed down the store I shopped at in Bixby Knolls. This store is located on a busy street with very limited parking. On any given day when I drive by I see a lot of random people hanging out loitering and dancing or they appears to be in their own world if you get my drift. It's one of the main reasons I haven't stopped by this location. No worries they have security guards and are well staffed. At times It's a little unkempt in front and the immediate area but the inside of the store is large well stocked and very tidy. Upon entering I immediately like what I see the store is packed with people kind smiling faces and aisle upon aisle of specialty items foods and such that makes my day and I grab a few things from every aisle that I visit. I'm obsessed with soo many things I have to be careful not spending too much money. BelGioioso Provolone Cheese And Genoa salami snacking rolls. It was delicious. 10/10 Mango cheesecake It wasn't very tasty the cheesecake was dry and flavorless the mango topping surprisingly didn't taste fresh or fruity. 4/10 I tossed it. Casamigos Reposado Tequila A gift for my daughter. 10/10 $70 Tillamook Dark Cherry Ice cream. Rich and creamy flavor but this batch had hardly any cherries. 8/10 Eggnog Store brand thick and rich I'm glad I bought some this year. 8/10 Chamoy pickle. Bought for my daughter. 8/10 They have a sandwich area for fresh made sandwiches the menu looks amazing I'll come back to try one including a pack of French butter. VONS has a Fresh Pass subscription that costs $99 a year. One of the perks is maybe once a month they give away a free item, it's never a regular deal. They send an email on Saturday mornings, you can clip the offer, and you can get the free item during opening hours on Saturday or Sunday. Here's the problem, more times than not, they don't have the item in stock, and whichever manager seems to be working, ever knows anything about the item, the offer, or why they don't have it in stock, or anything. The store director never seems to be on duty those days either. They have a "Special" VIP phone number you can call, but unfortunately ALBERTSONS/VONS outsources their special VIP number outside of the USA. At that number they never seem to care enough to pass along your complaint to the store director. You would think that on the weekends when they're having the Freebie Giveaway - they would make sure they're stocked with the item, and all managers and employees working Saturday & Sunday would be informed about the item, where it's located in the store, and have a plan to give a similar item of equal quality to give if they're out of the item, or even better a RAIN CHECK for when the item is back in stock. After all we have paid almost $100 for this subscription and in this day & age of outrageous prices with everything, they should want to provide their subscription customers with that free item. And don't even get me started on them abolishing the Self Checkout and having to wait inline for a cashier for 20+ minutes for ONE or TWO items... read more

Now don't think these are some outlandishly huge rolls they are reasonably sized and you can't beat the special of $5. The other rolls are still pretty affordable averaging $9-11 bucks. The chef that works there is so kind! She is always so helpful and make sure to ask for chopsticks and the sauce that you need. Everything was so nice...I would go in with headphones, get my stuff, go through the self check and get out without having to deal with anyone and their bad attitudes. Now they have ripped out the self-check and the lines are so long; more often than not, the lines are down the isles or all the way back toward the flowers/plants...The employees seem overworked, stressed-out and rude. Every single time I come to this location, it's the exact same frustrating experience. It doesn't matter what time of day it is, I end up waiting at least 20 minutes in line just to buy a few items. I live really close to this Vons on Broadway and Atlantic, and at this point it's basically my last resort grocery store when I only need one or two things and don't feel like driving farther. To be fair, the actual products and produce aren't bad. When I'm in a pinch I can usually find what I need and the store itself is fine in terms of selection. The problem is the overall experience at this location. The front of the store regularly has a lot of sketchy activity going on when you're walking in and out and on top of that the self checkout is almost always closed because of constant theft issues so as a result the regular checkout lines are always long and move painfully slow. It also feels like they're constantly short staffed at the registers, so even a quick "grab one item" trip turns into standing in line forever. I've had multiple times where I walked in thinking it'd be a five minute stop and ended up wasting way more time than I should have. If you absolutely have to go, you'll survive. But if you have options nearby save yourself the hassle and just shop somewhere else. read more

Ralphs and Target still have self service checkouts following the new staffing rules by the city of Long Beach, but this Vons doesn't. It also doesn't seem to have increased staffing for regular checkout lanes. As others have complained here, it takes forever to buy just a few items. That makes it more convenient to go to the Ralphs on 4th Street (2 miles away). This store often has trash in the elevators (although it's great that they finally cleaned the graffiti in them), and has expired items itemsmore than other stores. Vons was perfectly in walking distance from the hotel I stayed at. It was very convenient for me to walk to the market to grab some essentials needed for the room. The market is pretty clean comparing to what is going on outside and is fully stocked with all your grocery needs. What is a bit alarming to me and its not the market's fault. There are homeless people hanging around in front and across the street. While the market does its best to reduce threats and possible theft, it made me feel a certain way as I entered. The main entrance has an automatic gate and when you leave it requires you to have a receipt. I've never seen that before and without knowing I didn't know how to get out until the security guard told me about the receipt. The hotel I stayed at was less than a block away but during my walk I saw homeless people yelling and asking for money. It was a very chilly 6am and they were already being active. Located in downtown Long Beach, Von's has been go-to place for groceries since moving close by. Two really nice things about this store: reserved parking on the roof level, with spots always available; correct scanned prices, even with a very complicated sale and discount system. We haven't been back for a while, and I was surprised at how much more non-perishable product is now locked away. As mentioned, it's because of loss prevention. Like most retail these days, it is understaffed so I would imagine trying get a hold of someone to unlock for you would be difficult. When we came on a Friday night, the aisles weren't too full but there was a long backup in checkout. They do have self-service here, but you can't bring alcohol through it, so we had to wait. Not enough registers were open and each lane had overflow going into the aisle. This location wasn't listed as one of the stores that will need to be sold if the Kroger-Albertson merger goes through, so most likely will remain a Vons (part of Albertson's). read more

Casey from the pharmacy is top tier. Best pharmacist ever! My family and I went here for flu and covid shots. Despite having 27 tattoos and being almost 30, I'm not good with vaccines. I get anxious, light headed and nauseous. Casey spoke calmly and reassured me, empathizing with my anxiety. He worked quickly and efficiently, communicating the entire time. When he gave me the injection, he was so gentle yet quick. I hardly felt it. I've never had such a good vaccine! I elect him for employee of the month every month!!! Thank you Casey!! Long Beach Vons closed their self check out lanes rather than abide by new local laws. On top of that, they haven't ever sufficiently manned their cashier registers so checkout that used to be quick now takes longer than the time it takes to shop. Vons likes to claim they closed their self check out because it's cost prohibitive to hire a second clerk to man the self check out. And they continue to cut staff causing longer lines. They need to fix this staffing issue or it will no longer be my regular grocery store. I've already transferred my prescriptions away and limit my shopping here considerably. read more

I understand the recent law changes, but the decision to *completely* rip out the self check out area is a major mistake. This will not offset store congestion. It will not promote sales, or draw customers. It will decrease the volume of customers entirely. This only alienates the type of customer created in the last 5 years: smaller and quicker shops, more frequently, and with less contact. Not to mention this in an unforced error regarding competing against online/home delivery and other already more convenient grocery services. I went to this location on 5/1/26. I purchased my items I didn't want to purchase a bag (I have several in the car) so I had my items in cart with my receipt on top of my items. I am close to elevator and the cashier at reg 1 or the close to the elevator starts saying can I help you with your items real loud. I think she's talking to someone else So I keep walking so she comes from behind the counter this time really loud asking can she help me with my items. I like the items I just purchased see my receipt. She goes back to her register. I say everyone doesn't steal. But the black female bagging groceries starts yelling for me not to get smart with the cashier funny she just accused of trying to steal items I paid for. Unless you've been on the other side of the counter and experienced the way entitled customers act then keep your opinions to yourself & your therapist. I ordered for pick up today and saw in my cart there was a. SAVE30 code which said when you spend $75+ You qualify for this code which saves you 30 bucks. I bought enough things that had a subtotal of $75.96 and it wouldn't let me apply the code and said I needed to buy more. I went back to add another item to maybe get it higher and I clicked to check out it charged my credit card immediately which caused me to delete many items that I would've gotten before they started shopping, which at least they let you do. This place is absolutely filthy. The convenient parking at the roof level is so disgusting and filthy that it's nauseating to walk in. The stairway smell is nauseating as well and although it's thoughtful to put a blind senior citizen cleaning it once every 6 months, it needs bleach ASAP. The parking lot needs power washing ASAP. The restrooms are the worst as well. You need hand sanitizer immediately after touching those doorknobs. It's ridden with homeless using it. This was my first visit to this Vons location in Long Beach. It's pretty much in the only major supermarket in the downtown area of Long Beach. Parking is on the roof if you have a car but it also looked like a lot of people were walking in from the street so this is a great place to get groceries and lots of your daily use items. The store is decently sized and you're able to find a lot of things as a one stop shop. Make sure to sign up for loyalty club card so you can get discounts on items when they are on promotion. The supermarket itself is fairly big and there's a good variety of items throughout. Nothing out of the ordinary to report. Great market to come to so if you're ever in Downtown Long Beach this is where to go. read more
