Why are people so angry about a grocery store? I guess they don't have anything else in their life to be concerned with. I have shopped at this Vons for years and find it a nice place to be. The employees are friendly, courteous and helpful. To the reviewers who are upset about selection...how many bottles of ketchup do you need to choose from? I always find enough quality produce to buy and the meat department provides me with personal attention any time I need something cut for a special occasion or recipe. I live about two minutes away from this grocery store and don't even shop here. The grocery store is neat and tidy but has very limited selections in almost every department. The worst part is the staff. Confused, don't know what they are doing. They argue with each other in front of customers. It takes 20 minutes at least to get through the check out line, and you're lucky if you don't here the employees getting angry. Ada is the worst. read more

I have the option of a couple grocery stores and I choose this one every time. Never crowded. Deli is always awesome. Decent parking. I can't say it's the cheapest ALL the time but regardless I choose it over the alternatives because I'm in and out of here in 10 minutes every time. Redbox ALWAYS works! This is a new store that someone told me was one of the biggest Vons store in Southern California. It is definitely a big store. I have found the staff to be especially friendly and the selection quite broad. They have a large prepared foods area for take out lunches, a large selection of organic foods, and a large selection of inexpensive baked goods. Their prices are reasonable with a Vons card. This store has become my "go to" store for organic produce and baked cookies. read more

This is the first time I felt humiliated by a lady store manager/supervisor. I told her that when I buy a dozen bagel I normally get a discount it happened that the cashier is young and I was not familiar with and my thought that he is new. So, I ask the lady manager/supervisor which I recognize her by face since I have been shopping at this store for years now. Her response was "oh we don't do that anymore" I told her I just bought a dozen bagel last week and the nice and always smiling older male not the Hispanic guy always gives me a discount? This older lady manager/supervisor replied "he probably did it out of generosity". I had enough and I said never mind and walk away. She called me and said that she will ask so that she will also be aware. Did you forget you title? You should know all of this. In short she ask the other cashier lady and in fact there is a discount when you buy a DOZEN BAGEL!!!!! She turned to me and said "oh he is new I will tell him about this. Don't try calling this store if their internet is down as you'll get a fast busy signal. I decided to drive to the store anyways on Christmas Day hoping they were open. Once I let them know their phone signal was busy and they might want to check their phones, they truly couldn't care less about it. The checker, Bianca, said she had only been at the store a year and didn't know anything about it (What??!???). The supervisor up front told it me was probably because their internet is down, and it sounds like a regular occurrence. read more

Hold onto your purses!!!! I witnessed a woman's purse being stolen out of her cart as she was looking at yogurts. Then today I was in the shopping center and another an was being arrested. I know this stuff happens in any area, but never see it at the Albertson's or new Stater Brothers. On the plus side the baggers do a better job than at other stores. read more

Ever since they added the self checkouts this location has lost all customer service and timely service. It takes forever to check out and the checkers have lost all interest in customer service. The person manning the self check out is usually unqualified to manage 4 stations and it is common only 1 is open. read more

5 stars for the pharmacy! I see a lot of nasty reviews here for the pharmacy, poor form people. You usually do have to wait in line for any pharmacy. The staff is very friendly and helpful and will take the time to explain your medication to you, or work out your insurance issues. They even will fax your Dr's office to get you a refill. Don't listen to the negativity. Make sure you are not in a hurry, and have a little patience, smile and you will see how much more pleasant life can be. read more

This review is for the Vons Pharmacy. This pharmacy sucks. One of the worst with horrible customer service. They couldn't get my insurance to work and made me come back next day. Mysteriously, it was fine the next day with no explanation of the problem. They dont answer the phone or answer and dump on hold before you can even say anything and then never puck up again. Haven't really spent too much time at this Vons, but I can tell you that there is a Panda Express inside. Went there one time during my lunch break; same food as all other panda locations. The Panda presence makes this Vons good enough for me to visit once in a while. read more

This is quite possibly the worst grocery store in the La Costa area. The pharmacy is HORRIBLE and the entire store is dirty and gross. The gorcery carts are sometimes covered with cigarette ash because of all the smokers who stand RIGHT OUTSIDE the entrance and flick their ashes all over. This includes the child carts. Obviously, no one cares to clean them. I am not sure why the store management tolerates the employees and other homeless folks to stand right by the entrance with this behavior. Its unsightly and unclean. The pharmacy is a whole other topic - since alot of others have warned you I will just say - I agree. I waited an hour once to pick up a prescription that I had called in days before. I am not sure why these folks cant get it right. You can do better - go to a real pharmacy for your needs. The bakery is another problem. On one occasion they completely lost a very large order I placed, another time I asked them to do a special design on a cake and they told me "if its not in the book, we dont do it." They werent even nice about it. I dont know why I was a glutton for punishment and even went back after the first offense, but they are close, so I was hopeful. I ended up going to Ralphs instead and had such great customer service that I will always use them for any bakery needs. Its very disappointing that a neighborhood grocery store can't get these basic services right. The employees are grumpy and obviously not happy to be there. Did I mention this place is dirty? Try the Ralphs on Avendia Encinas. Everyone in there is happy, helpful and they ALWAYS get things right. I gave them two stars instead of one because they have a Starbucks inside. read more

Vons Pharmacy Staff definitely deserve some recognition! I have used many pharmacies that I have turned around & walked out of. This pharmacy staff, specifically Noe, Tressa,& Sharon make me feel like family! Probably one of the worst companies I have seen regarding customer service practices, not only at the store, but at the Corporate level as well. I wrote a lengthy complaint about my experience at Vons about a month ago, have NEVER received a reply (even though they ask if you want to be contacted by email or phone, etc.) which tells me in no uncertain terms they DO NOT CARE! I've lived close to this store for over 30 years and have been coming to this store for over 30 years and managers and employees come and go, but the culture seems to be a "meh" attitude, they just don't care. For the last 10+ years, I've been doing my major shopping somewhere else since this place doesn't seem to want to care about me, why should I care about them? But I went in during late December and had a "bait & switch" pulled on me, getting me to buy more of a product with promises I'll get a coupon for a future discount, when in case that wasn't really the deal. That's what I complained to Corporate about, that's why a month later I've yet to hear from them (including even the local damn manager - why can't he or she reach out to me with a freakin' apology????). Pharmacy is extremely slow for no apparent reason and I have never received my prescription any sooner than 2 hours. I have been there during slow times and I have heard the telephone ringing but they do not pick It up, so don't make the same mistake I have done and expect them to answer a call to the pharmacy. There are three main Vons that I shop at, and this is my least favorite. This is mostly in regards to the deli department. I know when I'm in a rush I cannot rely on them for speed. Even if the other Vons are not as fast, they are very polite and friendly. What am I doing wrong? Pharmacy is out of script ( only used this location because surgeon was local) and my daughter was kind enough to pursue fulfillment while I was out of it. I love this Vons! The guys at the meat counter are very attentive and always have helpful tips on cooking and recipes. The produce section is always on point. When I need to get flowers for my wife, they always have a great selection for the right discretion........ I mean occasion My favorite checker always lets me know about sales and will routinely tell me when I need to get something else to optimize their ad. Donna is the best! John (the store manager) is always engaged with customers. Every time I see him on an aisle he says, "hey buddy, are you finding everything?". I enjoy conversations with John and choose to go through Donna's line no matter the wait. read more

This rating is for the Pharmacy only, the food is average - not much in the "gourmet" department but it's a supermarket, not Whole Foods. Our experience with the pharmacy is that it is just a total mess. I'd give it NO stars if I could. I ended up waiting on a line for as long as 45 minutes just to pick up a prescription. The basic problem is that they have no idea of where the drugs are in their space. Each prescription seems to require what looks like a military search and destroy mission. They never have enough help either - only one register is ever staffed and there's never anyone at the drop-off window. Don't go there. read more

The Pharmacy is so bad! It's a 20 min wait EVERY TIME I need to pick up prescriptions. It's a blank stare and slow walking around to every shelf and bin in the place every singe time I need to pick something up. They also are very loud about your personal information so that the whole store can hear what you are picking up and why. Then they insist that they don't have anything for me when I know they do because I have my Dr. call me every time he approves a refill. When I insist, I get a bad attitude and dirty looks. Been going to this VONS for 20+ years. Yeah, that's right, TWENTY years. Normally a nice clean place, normally friendly employees (everyone has a "one off" now and then), but about 2 months ago new credit card processing boxes appeared to accommodate the new "chip" cards, where you slide the card into a special slot at the bottom. Well, they didn't work just right, and the cashier would tell you to slide your card like the old boxes. No problem. But on a subsequent visit, got my groceries, put my card into the special slot below and waited. Finally the cashier said "oh, they still don't work, you have to slide it". So I suggested that since we customers DO NOT KNOW THAT, perhaps it would be a good idea to block the lower slot, and maybe a small sign saying to please slide your cc like in the past. I'd get a smile and that's it. Next visit, same deal. Put my card in, everyone waited and finally the cashier says "oh, no, you have to slide your card".......well instead of me standing here like an idiot waiting, why don't you guys do what I suggested last time, block the slot and put a small sign to that effect. I really suggest you tell your manager this. Another smile. Two more visits, SAME THING. I mean, c'mon, you REALLY don't listen to your customers, do you? What's worse, I think this is more of a case of you really DON'T CARE, do you????? 20+ years, and I'm a piece of crap with my suggestions (by the way I'm in the customer service field, I know a wee bit about how to treat a customer and actually value them)....... Vons pharmacy in La Costa has some of the worst most inappropriate employees behind their counter. The questions and comments about ur personal prescriptions are uncalled for. I have changed over for the second time...giving them a second chance because of convenience but that hadn't changed after three years of not dealing with them. If there was a minus 0 I would have to give them that status. Amazing what one employee can do. If only Vons listened to their customers it would definitely help. Worst experience in the deli the other day! Lady with blonde hair behind deli is rude and will ignore you! I went to order a deli sandwich and she rolled her eyes at me! Hello ....that's what you are paid to do! She had to ask me my sandwich toppings no less than 5 times. I only had meat,cheese, bacon and avocado(which was prepackaged in some container, not fresh avo).it's not that hard to remember! She burnt the bacon and I asked her if she could please use non burnt bacon, she ignored me and continued putting it on my sandwich until I clearly told her I will not buy the sandwich if she isn't going to listen to my request. Finally she is done making it and I kid you not she had no clue how to wrap the sandwich it was kinda sad and hilarious at the same time! Sub par sando in my opinion and it was super expensive for what I got on it! Next time I will try Togos....it's a hit and miss there too LOL! The sushi at Vons is the bomb though!
