I've never once left a review for a grocery store but today while waiting in line with quit a bit of groceries and my 5 month baby strapped to me, a cashier who saw I had my baby and was waiting in a long time flagged me over and opened a line for me. So nice! She was soooo nice and helpful. It's apparent she takes pride in her job and was very kind. A lot of time grocery store workers are quit sour, not her! This is a resort town, during busy season be prepared to wait up to an hour to check out, it's just how it goes. If you don't like it make sure and bring your groceries with you so you don't have to go to the store! read more

Wasn't aware the Big Bear Lake Von's employee was also a KKK undercover operation!! Yeaaaaaa I said it!!! I know bad customer service... I know selective customer service... and I know blatant rudeness racism as well...this place displayed it point blank both times I visited. While at Vons today I asked an employee (William) for assistance and received back from him a major attitude. I asked him his name and he told me it was none of my business. I told him his customer service skills needed some work and he responded he did not fkn care as he already turned in his 2 week notice and walked away. As he walked away he flipped me and my daughter off. I went to to the managers office to complain and was told the manager was busy and would have to call me later today. My family and I came here to shop for a week's long of groceries, while we were staying at a vacation resort. This is a regular sized grocery store, so don't expect anything puny. For those that know me, I don't particularly like shopping, so when I do, I like to get it done quickly. I get this from my mom, LOL. I usually know what I need/want, so I immediately scoot to those aisles and grab those things, so I could be exiting sooner than later. We were looking for BBQ foods, snacks, sparkling water, dessert, steel cut oats and veggies to grill. Things were easy to find and got all that we needed and managed to get outta there within a 1/2 hour. That's my kind of shopping! In California, you get charged for shopping bags, if you don't bring your own, so start bringing your own! As for the customer service, it was okay, as I don't expect too much from grocery stores in terms of customer service anymore. I guess it's because of where I've been for almost 10 years, where stellar customer service seems to slip through the cracks. I was so glad to see a Vons because I am not a fan of Stater Bros grocery store, which was also really close by. WORST VONS AROUND. This Vons is the polar opposite of the Vons near my other house down the hill. First addressing customer service, there is none of it, in fact many of the cashiers are extremely rude, make no effort to please the customer. I have had so many bad experiences at this store. Furthermore, the box boys and girls needs to stay out of detailed personal conversation with the cashiers. The cashiers show no willingness to clear up the customers concerns, and even fail to acknowledge the customers existence. The problems do not end there, food is lacking freshness, the vegetables generally look terrible, and we have actually purchased cold cuts that were expired. This was our mistake because we are able to usually trust our other Vons to take down the out of code items, but this store does not. This Vons really needs to rethink the whole way in which they are operating their business. read more

I thought that the design of this whole shopping center was well done. This Von's looks like it would be found in a German village from the outside. This is only one of two grocery stores in Big Bear. We visited here several times during our vacation and it was certainly appreciated that they stayed open late. There was a pretty standard selection that you would expect from a grocery store. They were out of stock of several items that we wanted, but that has to be expected considering that Big Bear is only accessible by road through long, winding roads through mountain ranges. It has to be a nightmare getting trucks here. Something that was quite irritating was that at 8:30pm on a Sunday they only had one register open and the line was moving painfully slow. That's over three hours before their closing time. The bathroom was awful and made me feel like I was in a bad truck stop. During our visit to the Big Bear Alpine Zoo we learned that this Von's donates meat that it can't sell (because the expiration date has been reached). When we were there the snow leopards appreciated it! This is a generous offer on their part and must help so many animals. read more

Big Bear is a small community. I think Vons is one of the two grocery chains here. The other being Stater Brothers. This Vons shares real estate with Union Bank and Starbucks. It has a sprawling parking lot. I felt the heat being pumped through the vents as I walked through this store. There's also a fireplace with Starbucks inside. I never been to a store with cashiers as rude as here. I went there today and My cashier was Doug. Doug if you are that unhappy with your job that you can not greet a customer with a simple "Hello" than leave!!! He was all attitude when he had to go to my cart to scan in the Gatorade and Cat food. I tend to come here when I forget to bring something for my last minute cooking extravaganzas. The prices here are lot more expensive than if I bought it down the mountain somewhere. Otherwise, this place is beautifully decorated with a german theme that matches the rest of the plaza. The store is very clean and spacious. They have plenty of selections of whatever it is you need! Parking is abundant unless you come up here for a holiday... then good luck cause it'll be a zoo everywhere. I choose Vons over Stater Bros across the street since Vons has the BEST BAGELS EVER! They're fluffy and have all sorts of flavors. My favorite is the jalapeno and cheese which goes perfectly with a breakfast sandwich. Come here early in the morning when they're fresh :] read more

Came here at 8:52 pm to get a cup of soup. Everything was packed away already. Friday night of NYE weekend. Manager says they "pack up at 9 on weekends". Looked at my clock.... wasn't 9. Yet everything was already thrown away. What a waste. Place was packed also with people asking my same question after a long night of night skiing. While the store was big and clean and gets you everything you left behind at home, they need to open more cash registers!! The lines literally zig and zag and no one seems to know where they end. More importantly, they block the aisles where people need to pass by. For so many cash registers, they only have about 3 cashiers that take a while to check everyone out. They have everything you expect a Vons or any other decent market to have. The parking lot was ridiculous though! You think you have an issue at 99 Ranch in LA? HA! Try going to Vons in Big Bear. Seriously. The checkout lines took too loooong. People and their "I thought it was on sale" routine just needed to be kicked. Buy it or don't! Get out! I've been shopping at this store for over 13 years, very good store, wonderful customer service, Sandi up at self check out is amazing always there when you need something always happy and very courteous, Dana is a very good manager, she is always happy and always has no problem helping me when I need something, ALL the checkers and courtesy clerks are very courteous, with smiles and talk to you,not like any other stores where they don't barely even look at you, let alone talk to you. read more

The employee distribution to the right departments on a busy lunch hour and busy Friday (ie, deli) is complete stupidity. Avoid this place AT ALL COSTS on a Friday between the hours of 11-8pm, unless you have there patience of a kindergarten teacher. The only reason I gave 3 stars is for all the employees I see on a daily basis and how kind they are having to deal with tourists on the daily like this. read more

I know it's crazy to give a four star review to a supermarket, but I swear every time I go to Big Bear I am so happy to shop at this Vons. First of all, they are never out of anything. In fact they are always so stocked that I end up buying more than I want. My last trip, I just was so jazzed to be on vacation I went nuts. But look at me. I'm your typical urban professional road warrior business traveler. I know just about every creature comfort known to the top end frequent flyers. So when I get to rough it for a few days hours and hours away from serious broadband, I appreciate the chance to go into town and stock up on good stuff. This particular time out, I decided at the spur of the moment that I wanted some extra thick juicy steaks. So I went to the butcher and we had a discussion about beef. He did me a solid and went back to the locker and brought a fresh slab out, cut me some bomb-ass 18oz ribeyes and gave me a discount to boot. It just doesn't get any better than that. Well, actually it does. I got up to the front and got into the wrong (express) line. I didn't have fifteen items - it was more like enough for fifteen people. But when I got up to the front it was all good. I ended up spending something like $270 - and really feeling that corny feeling like what a great country of plenty we live in, and all these helpful people just here to make my vacation the best it could be. I donated some extra money to the charity Vons was promoting that day and they dinged a bell and announced it over the loudspeaker and gave me a couple free bags of flavored popcorn. As I went out to the lot, I realized that I have this same goofy warm feeling every time I shop at this Vons whether it's winter or summer. Just a great experience. read more

This is THE place to shop if you're staying in Big Bear. A very nice, clean, well-stocked store. They even carry Daiya cheese at cheaper price than I get it at home in the Coachella Valley. We went into Vons this evening to get some snack for our room at the worldmark resort. They have a great selection of produce at this grocery store plus lots of attendants to help you out if you have any questions. Also I must say their ice cream isle is doing superb. They have lots of gelato and ice cream options for anyone's taste. The store is later out pretty well and is fairly easy to navigate if you're in a hurry although the pace in this town is not very quick. I come in here each week for four specific items and like clock Vons usually has one of these items in stock. Today I waited 45 minutes at their deli counter for meat and cheese. Yes, 45 minutes. Twice the deli manager walked by, saw 7 people in line complaining and ignored all of them. Two of those people ended up giving up and leaving their carts, just going to Stater Brothers across the street. Way to lose business. Not expected when you pay 45% more for groceries at Vons but they are always under staffed and the wait is at least twenty minutes every single time I come in here. read more

This has to be one of the fancier VONS super markets I have come across. Past Pong's Oriental Delights, and past Radio Shack and Big K-Mart on Big Bear Blvd. Inside seems to be very mood-lit... dimmed down lighting, some may find it relaxing, and others may find it annoying, especially if you're trying to checkout prices. VONS is your typical chain super market. This is my 2nd visit to this VONS, since I am up in Big Bear Lake about once or twice a year. It gets pretty packed, especially full of vacationers/tourists around the US. You might run into your college crowd, buying booze for their party evening or such. Be sure to get the stuff you need early, because you'll be presented with some empty shelves. Also, there's a mini-Starbucks in this VONS. The guys here work pretty quickly... But this weekend seems to be their hardest weekend since an ice machine broke and they were running out on certain flavors/supplies this holiday weekend (July 4th 2008). Ordered a venti green tea iced lemonade, but they were completely out of green tea. The black tea was all they had, and opted for that. Over Labor Day weekend, it was a seething bedlam of strangers and lost souls, all only caring about themselves, and savagely unaware of anybody else. Prices were high, tempers were higher, and the shrill complaints of whiny children were higher still. If you need foodstuffs, and have a choice, don't go to this Vons on the weekend or during the daylight hours. Bring whatever you can, and shop during the off-hours. At night this Vons is managed as poorly as grocery stores in big cities. At 10:30pm tonight, 10/18/15 there was only one check out lane open, and 5 of us in line. The 1st 2 had a lot in their carts. I was number 3. After about 12 minutes, someone opened another line for the 2 guys behind me. I was the last one to pay from the 5. There were other employees working in the store at this time. The lines were outrageous, and the store a MESS. I saw several spills that were not cleaned up. Not only did this gross me out, but it seemed a safety issue. I had to tiptoe around to make sure I would not fall. We went there twice, and so we had a nightmare visit twice. The second time it took my husband 45minutes to buy a few items. Was really disappointed with the stocking on the shelves. I have been in the Grocery business since 1971. I have yet to see such a poorly stocked store only in pre open condition ever. I have just moved up.here. I was not disappointed with the meat produce or bakery departments. But as far as the store shelxes alot of major basic out of stocks. Things that are staples. The service deli was a MAJOR disappointment. Selection was lacking even though the person behind the counter was trying thier very best. Who ever is doing the ordering a choices of stock are lacking. The employees are very nice even when busy. The management and some department heads need to get with it. A real disappointment expected much better from Vons. read more

Sorry, but this is the best food I have found in Big Bear. The restaurants are mediocre and overpriced. Many have no parking so you'll be in the public lots down by the highway walking a few blocks in the slush and snow. Maybe this works for the summer vacationers. We were in a hurry for lunch and got food, drinks and an in-store Starbucks at Vons a few blocks from here. Main chain Grocery store in Big Bear. Parking lot is always full. Inside is always busy. I wish they had self check out because the registers move really slow. Despite that, I rather shop here then carry a extra 50 pounds of groceries up the mountain. I found the store to have greater breadth than Stater Brothers, I was able to find items that I could not source across the street including Sugar in the Raw in packets, and illy coffee. I really liked the ambience with the fire place at the front store; and having my Kroger card work to participate in store discounts didn't hurt! read more

Deli service is always on point when I come here. It is always a Great experience having Holly and Syilva in Deli make our sandwiches. My Food is always amazing, and the service even better. I always leave happy chicken artichoke wraps,and with fresh big cookies that were recommended to us by these deli girls. Lunch is the bomb!!Ill be returning again and again.
