I would have given them a five star review, but the registers were a little backed up, so opening another lane would have been great, but isn't this like every other Vons... Like how they ask, "Will you be needing any bags, as you unload an entire shopping cart of groceries and without carrying 15 used bags stuffed into an over-used "Vons" shopping bag. Just once I think I'll say no and then make about 10 trips, of handfuls of groceries out to my car while the line backs up. ... "just one or two more trips and I'll be out of your way. When you're a couple hours away from home, and know that you've more than likely forgotten something essential...say like a toothbrush... It helps to have a familiar grocery chain nearby. Vons wasn't far from our cabin, and even better, shared a parking lot with a starbucks. You'll find what you need here from groceries to said toothbrush. Don't get me wrong. I still shop at Vons and I like it a lot but I'm so disappointed in things lately prices have gone up terribly. I understand it's like that everywhere, but servings and qualities are lousy now too from them. The hot whole deli chickens that I've always bought, well I got one a few weeks ago and I swear I thought it was a deli Cornish game hen. It was so tiny and the price is way way up for the smallest little thing imaginable. If you're gonna raise the price, at least don't give us a tiny little chicken that's half the size of the old. secondly, A large bag of mixed birdseed is now packaged differently, which is fine, but this new batch has so much filler in it. (little round brownish red pieces that no bird or squirrel will touch) that is just horrible. I wish they would go back to The original bags... Vons is the same everywhere. That, my friends, is the beauty of McDonaldization. Here's a few points to watch out for: 1. Don't come too late at night on peak holidays or weekends. They may sell out of the booze you are looking for. I mean, what else is there to do here after hours? Booze and snooze. Booze and snooze. 2. Don't come too late in the afternoon because that's when lines will be long. Everyones hungry, thirsty, and clomping around in their snow gear. 3. Parking can be hazardous. Somehow, this gets worse than an Asian supermarket parking lot. Maneuver your way carefully. Probably refer to point #2. People are HANGRY. Otherwise, it's like any other vons and stocks most of the things you'll find anywhere else. It just feels slightly less ghetto than stater bros to me, I'm not sure why. read more

So we came here because we need a lot of ingredients to cook for a big family in the cabin. We're so glad there's a Vons here to get everything we need to make pasta and bake cookies! Because of the long shopping ordeal and I was already starving, I stopped at the deli section to get some fried and baked chicken (8 pcs of mix and match for $6.99 only)!!! They're crispy, delicious and hot, also partially due to the fact that I was already hangry. It's a standard Vons with a decent selection of stuff inside and a rustic facade outside, including the other buildings in the plaza, which is pretty cute to me. This Vons has a small ethnic section which didn't carry the Thai tea that I was looking for but at least they had something like hoisin sauce for cooking if you need it. I went to this Vons on Tuesday and was very disappointed at the cashier's (Christina) lack of friendliness. I greeted her when I got there and she did NOT acknowledge or thank me when she handed my receipt. Never said anything to me. Felt that was very rude, unfriendly and not professional. She did have time to chit chat with other employees while she was ringing my items. The person bagging my groceries was friendlier. She was bagging my 2nd bag when Christina was done ringing all my items and she just stood there not helping to bag my groceries. In the meantime, she rang the items and bagged the groceries to the person behind me and just stood there waiting for my 3rd, 4th and 5th bags to be done. Christina was HORRIBLE!! I wish I could upload my video of the super-long checkout line at Vons. It was so long that a lot of people, including myself, took photos/videos of the 30 minute line. To top off the crazy wait at 9PM on a Friday night, one of the Vons workers came up with the most idiotic idea. They opened up the 15 item or less check out line and started helping customers who were just getting into the end of the line (with less than 15 items); Rather than helping the customers (most of whom had less than 15 items, such as myself) who had waited for 30+ minutes first, the Vons workers started checking out people who had waited less than 1 minute. Hmmmm. Very brilliant (dripping with sarcasm).....NOT EVER supporting that Vons again! read more

This really should be a Pavillions (upscale Von's) They have a decent selection of fruit, even in the middle of winter. (just be prepared to pay the prices for it) All the standard stuff you would expect in a Von's, plus the snow accessories. (so if little johnnie needs a hat and gloves, you can find it here!) Good selection of organic foods and fresh deli, bakery, and olive bar. So if you are entertaining in your cabin, you won't be missing out. You can also pack a gourmet picnic and avoid the lunch lines at the ski lodge. Always busy during the ski season! read more

Went in and the store was incredibly crowded which makes sense it was a Saturday. I purchased a gift card and about 4 other items. Went through self check out a staff member had to come over and approve the gift card which he did quickly and took off. I finished paying and left. Got home tried to redeem gift card and it wouldn't work said it wasn't valid. Tried multiple times thinking maybe it was a system issue. Didn't work. Called vons let them know it wasn't working the girl asked if my receipt showed I paid for it I told her it did she said well you can come in and we can activate it if it wasn't activated. So we drove there they told us it was already active; tried explaining it didn't work, they said all they could do is have us come speak to Yolanda tomorrow morning which didn't help as we leave back home early in the morning. They said they cannot refund or exchange gift cards even if they don't work. Waste of time trying to deal with the lack of customer service here. read more

Everyone always tries to plan ahead and bring groceries from down the hill but why do it when you can just stop by the grocery store and not have to worry about your items getting soggy or ruining in coolers. This is for the STARBUCKS located INSIDE of this VONS. There was always just 1 person working there every time I went in. It's TOO BUSY for just 1 person to be working there. Your order takes too long. I was super excited to see that they were expanding , there is twice the space! BUT....there is still only 1 person working there. Still takes WAY too long for your order. Today really took the cake...one person working ...AS USUAL, but this time she is on the side, over by the tables. Assuming she was restocking straws or something , I don't know but for once there was no one in line. She sees me and says " I'LL BE THERE IN A FEW MINUTES". Really? At least the gray-haired pleasantly plump man that works there. Your groceries, which you are spending very good money for,end of slammed and squashed in a bag. To Keep this short, the staff here are rude. Keep in its not like I was trying to start conversations (with the exception of the cashiers) I am not taking about interaction. I am talking about walking around the store and listening to the inappropriate conversations and in general. More than once I would be in an isle and one employee would pass by (I would say pardon me, or excuse me if I was in the way) and MORE THAN ONCE employees would roll their eyes and scoff. In Big Bear you have a choice of Staters (as in Stater Bros) or Vons. I visit either. The Vons parking lot is heck on wheels as some noted. Also, they are out of things during the holidays such a milk. The last time I was there, I accidentally bought lactose-free milk because I was trying to find organic milk and had no luck. Ugh. Thankfully my kids liked it! There is a Starbucks in the Vons but the line can get crazy during the holidays! If you are up there on a busy weekend, go mid-day, not during rush hour when everyone is leaving the slopes. read more

It's hard to go to Vons when Stater Brothers is literally right across the street. Vons is a little more pricey than Stater Bro's. But they one thing Vons has going for them (this location anyway) is that EVERYONE seems to go to the Stater Brothers so this location is like a ghost town most of the time. I do like that- not having to run into people at the store. And also not having to wait in really long lines to checkout. Vons has different brands from other grocery stores though so I struggle with that because for some reason Staters sells all the brands that I like. So there's that piece too, if you're not too picky on brands, enjoy less crowds and don't want to wait in lines- this Vons is the place for you! Lol read more

Racist staff this company has working for them. Standing in line waiting to check out my groceries. Two people standing in front of me. The male cashier and male individual bagging groceries were very amicable and welcoming towards the people in front of us. When it was our turn, the cashier did not greet, he just scanned the items and gave me total. I paid in cash and when getting my change back, the male cashier handed me the money with disgust. The male individual just threw my groceries in the bag as if throwing away trash. I have never been so discriminated like I did at this Vons. I am an educated and respected professional; but because of the color of my skin I was treated with such disgust. Today my wife and I visited Vons. We wanted to order some chicken wings to pickup 2 days later for a party. We counted 7 people, including the apparent deli manager, walk by us like we were invisible. The "manager/supervisor" told one person to assist us. Nothing. She then peaked around the corner and told someone else to help us. That person was unable to comprehend what we wanted. Finally another person joined the conversation. She appeared to be able to help us and started to take our order. Then she suddenly said that they haven't had chicken wings, other than parts of the whole chicken cut up for breasts, wings etc., for a long time. This was after I pointed at the sign above the deli that showed them. This ordeal took probably 15 minutes of first being ignored, then misunderstood, then misled and then ultimately overwhelmed with confusion. At this point, I saw no reason to pursue this any further with the manager/supervisor, as I had no confidence in the order being filled even if available. We left. We won't be back. By the way, We went across the street to Stater Bros, where they were just as busy. But they acknowledged us and set everything up for the wings in less than 5 minutes. Its your typical grocery store. You can pretty much find anything you would in a Kroger, Bashas or Safeway. We were here vacationing for a week and chose Vons over Stater Bros across the street. Found everything we needed but when it cam time for checkout only 1 cashier was open then they had express checkout of 15items or less. So we had to stand in a line where we were the 5th ppl in the line with all 4 shoppers ahead with cart full. Then when it was our turn to place our groceries on the conveyor belt it was EXTREMELY FILTHY, it was sticky and you could see marks all over as if someone opened a soda and it spilled all over it. When I told the cashier that the belt was REALLY DIRTY and I didn't want my fruits or veggies touching it, she turned to look at the woman that was bagging and that employee said "Well I cleaned it last night" then the cashier shrugged her shoulders like "Oh well" then I mentioned Covid and how that wasn't sanitary and most stores wipe the belt down after every other customer she stopped speaking to me and kept scanning. Talk about awkward. If I didn't have my kids and just waste 1hr shopping in there I would have left my cart full and went to Stater Bros. Cashier & Bagging lady were rude and inconsiderate. I would give 5 stars to vons for just the delly ALONE. The breakfast burritos with chipotle sos are incredibly tasty and so is the 'build ur own sandwich' great choices they are! I left my walet in a shopping cart there one night and one of the managers in a blue shirt had it for me untouched when i returned which i was very lucky to of made that mistake in big bear. If in sanbernardino im sure i would of lost it for good. Here on a Thursday morning in early January. The parking lot is big so there is tons of parking. The vons is one of the largest I've been too. They have 5 or 6 check out stands with other self checkouts on the side. The staff stocking the shelves were pretty helpful in giving me directions to the items I was looking for. The young man at the deli could work on his manners, after the second time I said "thank you" with no your welcome or anything I made sure to say it one more time after receiving the food I asked for. Still he didn't say "your welcome". I got my items and left. Seems silly but I expected better customer service and better welcome greetings. I know Vons values themselves when it comes to customer service so his could use some help. Other than that the check was friendly and nice, bagged my groceries well. Bathrooms were decently clean. And the Starbucks line wasn't too terrible. read more
