For dinner we split the Jaegerschnitzel, which was authentic and tasty. Although we were too full for dessert they brought us a special treat for our anniversary. Speaking of bread: it's the real deal and I'm so glad there's finally a source for excellent wholegrain loaves that are close to in weight of a brick stone. (I can already fully recommend the "Saftkorn" which translates to "juicy seeds".) Here's my little rant though: I was hoping that in terms of sweet offerings, they would carry German classics like Bienenstich or Streuselkuchen or classic fruit sheet cakes. Nope. Instead they jumped on the trend and offer cinnamon rolls and cardamom buns. Granted, they were tasty, but everyone else does them! Anyway, I'll be back for the bread. They offer a range of wurst (including the ubiquitous currywurst) alongside a selection of schnitzels, a more Austrian treat, but one known across both countries. On previous visits I've sampled these, and can particularly recommend the Schnitzel Kolsche Art, the traditional pan fried pork escalope coated in breadcrumbs, served in this instance with a black pudding and apple sauce mix. It isn't gourmet, but does as its makers intended and serves up a hearty filler to put a cap on the foamy lager you've just sculled.
