I went today and honestly should've left when unnoticed them. When I left, I honestly didn't inspect the nails because I get a men's manicure buff and shine. Simple, impossible to mess up. 8/10 nails are completely scratched by a machine she used and not buffed. When I got home I noticed, called and sent pics asking for just a refund of the mani (not even the auto 20% tip I give all service people as I understand the nature of the business). The owner refused. Honestly, terrible business practices. I plan to issue a formal complaint with the board of cosmetology once I've reviewed the regulations and identified all the problems. For instance: incorrect usage of barbicide; the washing machine front load door was entirely white (even though it is supposed to be see through) because it is entirely calcified with mold and mildew (I didn't notice till leaving when the door to the laundry was left open); dirt and grime on the walls of the bathroom; incorrect storage of supplies; cross contamination galore. I asked the manager when I made the appointment for the polish to be gently soaked off. He said yes that is ok. I arrived, stated again that request to hand remove the gel polish. Vickie said yes. Then after less than a minute of soaking Vickie grabbed the drill/grinder because she said the polish was too hard. I stopped her, she then scraped at my nail with a hard emory board scratching my skin. When it hurt, I asked her to slow down and be more gentle, she would start with the drill and complain it was too hard. So I told her that previous manicurist would soak the nails longer and gently scraped off off the polish. Anyway, she broke two nails and ended up cutting off weeks of growth. I will never step inside this location again.

I always do dip on my nails however every time I come in they want to do builder gel which I tell them I don't like. After arguing with them for a few minutes, they finally agree to do dip. The nails are fine for the first few hours till they always inevitably start chipping. Most of the time I go back to the salon to get them fixed and the staff is then rude get saying "This is why I told you to get builder gel!". Personally I feel like if you're going to offer dip on your menu you should be able to do and make it last and not scold your customers every time they want to get it done.

I was a little disappointed as I had scheduled my cut a few weeks well in advance. However, they made it right and fit me in that same day with a senior stylist. I had Abigail as my stylist, and she was just a darling. She was so gentle and careful with my hair. She took exactly the length that I wanted off, and did beautiful long layers for me. I loved how she really took her time and listened to what I wanted done. Will definitely miss her when she graduates in June and any salon will be lucky to have her. Know before you go: State Street garage is great to park in and only a few minutes walk from the salon. If you want a weekend appointment, I'd book well in advance. They have Aveda products for sale in the front, and are always running specials. Give or take about an hour to an hour and a half for your appointment if you're getting a cut. Don't forget to try a cup of the Aveda tea at your appointment. It's delicious!!
