The place gets one star for decor. All the money was spent on the interior that there wasn't any left for the food. We came during lunch time and it was slow (there were only 2 parties). It should've been clue #1. We were sat at a table. The menu wasn't overly impressive. I'm not a fan of seeing dimsum, soup dumplings, etc. on the menu when the restaurant is called "Ramen" (just means they're trying to do everything and not one thing was specialized) so that was clue #2. But we stuck around and ordered. Food was just so bad. The ramen broth had zero flavor. It tasted like water (would've been nice to have some salt or msg). The eggs were cold and definitely premade in the fridge so biting into it was weird since it was the only cold item. The unagi don wasn't done right. The unagi did not taste fresh (definitely something frozen and heated). There was too much lettuce so the proportions weren't right. The spicy and salmon and spicy tuna rolls were just very mid. The chicken karrage was just some fried chicken in very old oil. It was very dry. The sauce tasted like it was poured from the sweet sour sauce bottles I buy. Overall, food wasn't great. Ordered takeout via Uber Eats with friends. I got the Spicy Chicken Ramen (with extra noodles and no egg) and the Spicy Tuna Roll. Upon arrival, the food was labeled properly and there was no spillage. The restaurant honored the no-egg request, which I really appreciated, and the extra noodles were packed to the side. One thing I didn't love was that the sushi and sashimi were grouped together, even though they belonged to different people. It made sorting the order a little confusing. Now onto the food. The broth was very tasty, but I noticed that both the broth and the chicken weren't actually spicy. I ended up adding chili oil to make it spicy and give it that razzle dazzle. Besides the missing spic , the flavors were definitely there and I still enjoyed it. The spicy tuna roll unfortunately didn't match. It was a bit bland and didn't have much flavor. Overall, I'd still order from here again, just with the expectation that it won't be spicy and I'll want to have some chili oil on hand. I paid roughly $38 for this. I never thought I'd have to give a ramen restaurant one star, but here we are. We arrived around 7:15 p.m. (they close at 9), and the restaurant was mostly empty. Still, we were seated in a section where our server, Esther, was sweeping and cleaning up for the night. Why seat guests in an area you're already closing down? The biggest issue: she wore the same blue gloves to sweep, pick things up off the floor, handle payments, and serve food and drinks without ever changing them. It was unhygienic and honestly disgusting. Trying to give the place a chance, I ordered the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and subbed corn for fungus. My bowl arrived with corn anyway. Esther asked if I had a food allergy or if I wanted her to take it back and have the cooks remove it for me, but since I don't like sending food back for a variety of reasons, I decided to pick it out myself. The broth was bland and not spicy at all; it tasted like chicken broth. Another issue is they use chili oil to make the broth spicy, but I'm not sure that's the right way to build spice in a ramen broth. I've been to plenty of ramen restaurants that use spicy miso to add depth and heat, and it makes a big difference. My bowl was also missing bamboo, which was listed on the menu. When I mentioned it, she offered to bring bamboo and another bowl of broth, which did taste better, but by that point the experience was already ruined. What made it worse was overhearing her tell another table that she was "distracted" because of my situation, more than once, while I was sitting right there. Completely unprofessional. We also ordered the Kobe Beef Roll, which was supposed to come with fried asparagus but had sautéed asparagus instead. When it arrived, we had to ask for appetizer plates and soy sauce cups. Then she reached over our table mid-meal to take the soy sauce bottle to refill it, and reached back over again to return it. Overall, this was one of the worst dining experiences we've had in a long time. I even showed up two nights in a row at closing time, and they not only took me in but allowed me to enjoy a meal while they closed up shop for the night. I like things hot, so I always start with the Spicy Tonkotsu Ramen and then ask for spicy oil and seasoning to bring it up to the level I like it. The portion is about perfect, and the base spicy level is decent; you might have to build it up a little if you like it on the firey side. I typically order the shishito peppers to start, which are always cooked to perfection and come out quickly. The prices are reasonable and the restaurant is large and well decorated with traditional decor. Seldom is it extremely busy so the noise level is good. I went to volcano ramen with a friend on a Tuesday evening around 5:30 PM. There was barely anyone in the restaurant, so we got seated right away and got our food pretty much immediately. The waitress was really friendly and efficient, I would recommend if you were looking for a quick bite to eat but of course my friend and I still felt welcome to stay as long as we wanted to after eating. This restaurant is attached to an outdoor shopping Center, so it's a nice place to go if you want to walk around afterwards and maybe get some ice cream or window shopping. We got an order of the pork buns, and each got the Tonkotsu ramen. The ramen blew me away! I often get this type of ramen, so I've had my fair share, and this definitely did not disappoint. I like the ingredients they had and theirs, and it's great that you can modify the spice level. I want that brought in my veins let's be real. The pork bun, I could've done without. I ordered 2 teriyaki dinners online (1 chicken and 1 chicken & shrimp). The website required me to choose soup or salad with each meal, so I selected one of each. My receipt clearly shows soup and salad were included, but when I picked up my order, neither was in the bag. I called and was told the manager decided to change to-go orders so they no longer include soup or salad. If that's the case, then fix the website--don't have customers select items you know you won't provide. As for the meals, both the chicken and shrimp were overcooked and dry. My husband ate the shrimp and vegetables and threw the rest away. I ate the few vegetables and could not eat the tough, rubbery chicken. When this restaurant first opened, the food was very good, but lately the quality has gone downhill. I love coming here because this is some of the BEST ramen I've had in the Westminster area. A lot of places don't do ramen great but Volcano ramen does. The service is quick , from getting seated to getting your food. We've never gotten food at room temp or cold, it's FRESH. The inside of this restaurant is nice for groups or a date! A couple downsides, the people are NICE okay but the service is meh. The eggs, don't like that they're served hard boiled. This place has the looks, and it also has the food. We came in an hour before closing and were greeted by friendly staff. We were seated and within minutes given our waters. We then looked over the menu. I opted for the Unagi bowl and my GF wanted the Spicy Sesame Ramen. I usually go for Ramen but wanted to change things up a bit. Glad I did, the Unagi was seared to perfection, the ingredients in the bowl were great. The only thing that I didn't like were the peas. They seemed like they may have been frozen. Everything was deep-fried in a hard-shell batter - something I would expect at a bar, not at a sit-down restaurant. I had to break the fried shell off of everything to eat the veggies. The crab tasted fishy and musty - definitely past its "serve by" date. Even the fried rice was nothing more than a bowl of brown mush. So unappetizing. Eat somewhere else. read more
