I have been STUCK with the archaic volcano upcountry and does ANYONE there ever KNOW ANYTHING? I PAY a ridiculous amount of money for pretty much NOTHING. We have a landline and someone from volcano saw our business cards and decided we have to pay ADDITIONAL BUSINESS LINE FOR OUR EXISTING LANDLINE?? How much bs is that?? The WIFI sucks and the telephone and cable costs for what little we get are CRIMINAL. Just like everywhere else these days, the place is full of incompetent people who even ADMIT they are out of the loop half the time regarding technology and IT SHOWS. we have had internet and telephone line for over 16 years with them as they have a monopoly in this county. the customer service is horrible, price continues to increase and internet speed slows. The only reason we still have a landline is because they require it to have internet. If you are thinking about going this route be sure and do your research. there are others out there read more

Been with Volcano for many years now, always have had great service , although speeds are not as good as I would like, I'm in ATT's area and they don't have cable or internet service where I am.. I am thankful for their limited wireless. read more

We lived in Pioneer for one year, it was the worst and most expensive cable/internet/phone company we have ever dealt with. Horrible customer service and you get very little for what you pay for. I am very happy with both my phone and internet service. Both work with our generator when the power goes out, which is a huge plus. The cell tower goes out all the time, so it's nice to have wifi calling and the landline for backup. I love the convenience of the Blast app for setting limits on devices or creating guest networks when we have parties. The extenders offered help us stay connected everywhere in our home and outside. We use a lot of "smart home" devices and appliances, as well as streaming and online schooling. The price we pay is well worth the service and exceptional local customer service. I love that every step of the way we get to work with real humans instead of doing everything online, it makes for a great experience. I've had great service all around the last 3 years with Volcano. We will be lifelong Volcano customers! read more

Internet service providers should have online forms and be able to get you hooked up within hours, days at most. Instead, volcano mails forms to you, which takes a week, you print them and mail back, another week, then you wait 5-10 business days for internet. They're located only a couple of miles from our home. Corona or not, that's appalling customer service. read more

Not very good service, not very good customer service, not very friendly tech support and limited tech support at that. They close @ 5:30 Mon-Fri, 4:30 on Saturday, are closed all day on Sundays and closed on all holidays, so if there's an internet outage on a Friday night before a holiday weekend, you have to wait until somebody comes in Monday morning. And that's a huge problem if it effects the entire area. The biggest problem is they have a choke hold on any other company being able to offer services to anywhere Volcano Communications is. At 4 am the internet went dead. Before calling, I ran some tests and determined the failure was between their router and the Sprint transport. I could ping 1 of their DNS servers, but not the other 1. After collecting the technical info, I called to report the problem. At that hour I got their answering service. I explained the problem, and where the failure was. She told me Nkomo one would be in until 8am. I asked if she had other reports of this outage, she replied "no". Then I asked how many reports she needed before calling someone, she said "at least 3". This outage killed all my VoIP phones, my weather station reporting, my Nest thermostats, of course, email and web services. Apparently, there are no redundant connections to outside internet so the system would be self healing as it was designed to be in the face of failures. I ran a graph of the failure that showed service was restored at 7:01:13 am. At 10:12 am I got a voicemail from Edward mentioning that he had gotten an email from their answering service saying "my" internet was out and wanted me to return his call so he could help me restore the service. I called him back, I got only his voice mail. On the cable side: months ago I reported a repeated problem where the audio, but not the video, would drop for typically 1 to 3 seconds only on local broadcast channels. After several techs replacing a splitter, and the cable box, multiple reports detailing the exact time and station noted, and a lot of discussion about how a poor connection in a digital could not cause an audio only dropout, it still has not been fixed. I've offered to help them technically, but they refuse my offer and the issue continues today, often several times in an evening/ day. They don't seem to be able to find the problem let alone resolve it. It is particularly annoying during programming such as news when critical facts are dropped. read more

We have been customers for more than 30 years. Unfortunately this company needs to take a serious look at their IT tech support. I have had multiple interactions with tech support each time I was interrupted while asking a question and talked to in a snotty condescending manner. Not at all as a valued customer. We are currently looking for a new provider as a result of these negative interactions. I am a big time local small business supporter, but respect for your customers needs to be present! read more

They just hooked up my high speed wifi internet. Extremely happy. I had surewest fiber optics prior to moving into a rural area that had no connection other than satellite internet. This is 100 times better than satellite, with no data cap. The employees and installers are extremely friendly, knowledgable, and willing to go the extra mile to make obtaining a good reliable connection work. George and Scott spent quite awhile attempting to obtain a good signal for me, and even are coming back to boost my signal, which obviously they don't need to do as I have acceptable service now. They cost of the service is very reasonable. Great locally owned company with a dedicated team. read more

The past two years I've had good and responsive service from them although the problems delivering service to this area seem to be ongoing. The repairmen when they've had to come out have been great and I am constantly seeing road workers from Volcano appearing to be laying lines near where we live which is encouraging. This company has a complete monopoly on the residents in the eastern part of the county. They can charge whatever they want per month and you are stuck with them. Their DSL is close to 28.8 baud modem. The same person owns the St George in Volcano. Don't bother eating, drinking or staying there either. read more

They are very over prices, phone, cable and internet drops off all the time, and I am sick of calling them to find out nothing is wrong. I am on the computer all day and everyday it's something. We stay at Jackson Rancheria RV Park. This stay, the 100 or so coaches and those staying in the hotel would lose all channels multiple times a day. We arrived on Wednesday, and on Saturday the problem still exists. We were watching 2 movies and did not see the ends of either one. All channels would just go dark. They should broadcast an alert letting users know when service would be restored . read more

This company doesn't even deserve a star. It's a shame we do not have any other internet/phone options out here. If i didn't have to rely on internet for business purposes, I would go with out. Volcano's customer service is slow, and most times no one seems to be available to answer the lines. A few times, my internet was shut off for being late, when paying the bill, the internet was never turned back on. They have done this each time, i have to use a neighbors phone to call them and let them know they forgot to flip the switch on. Modem went out, they couldn't drop off, i had to pick it up and trade old one for a new one. It's their crappy equipment that decided to fail, i shouldn't have to go out of the way, huge inconvenience Internet seems to drop to often. Their prices are ridiculous, horrendous! The are way too over priced for phone and internet. If i was the owner, I would re evaluate their practices, we deserve better than this.If you call around lunch time, you probably won't get through as if everyone takes lunch at the same time. So is 0800 on Saturday and all week my cable boxes have been on the fritz. On demand does not work, guide does not work, the channels don't work. Cant even watch the darn news. So I called, after waiting 20 minutes on hold to get through they tell me they are going to ping my box to reset...it can take up to an hour for these commands to process. are you kidding me a whole hour! So after while the boxes don't turn off she tells me, ok try and reset them be unplugging them for 10 minutes then plug it back in for 10 minute then call us back after 20 minutes if this is still a problem! Are you kidding me. This is so freaking ridiculous. I am trying to eave and don't want to deal with this tonight when I get home. I just want to watch TV and relax a little. I know it seems minor but really it doe snot have to be this hard. I have used other service in other locations and it was NEVER this hard. An hour to ping the box....smh Okay called back at 0857am after waiting for the boxes to never do what they were supposed to for 20 minutes I get someone else, another lady, okay we are going to re ping the boxes again so you have to wait another 30-45 minute and if you are still having problem call us back. We can just open a service call we have to run all these tests first...which seems weird since I have to have a damn service call to get the shit installed...less than a month ago! The customer service is seriously lacking...as I have said MAKE IT EASIER ON THE DAMN CUSTOMER. I would be out of a job if we ran out company like this. I am wasting half a day on t his. If you are a busy person and prefer to watch your favorite shows On Demand, foget it. Volcano Vision does a very poor job of posting episodes of recent shows. Since the new year, there was a gap of more than THREE weeks for several programs I watch, and in an ordinary week, episodes of shows are often skipped completely. More than once, the "after show" program was posted, but not the episode itself. It can't be that difficult. Get someone on the job to take care of this content posting in a timely manner. It's extremely aggravating. If Comcast ever becomes available up here, we will drop Volcano in a heartbeat. read more

10 years ago, Volcano's internet seemed to have poor performance and went down a lot in Ione. I switched to AT&T uverse which worked great in 2009 but the performance got worse and worse over the years while their price went up up up. I switched back to Volcano in 2018 and it works GREAT! I get 50Mpbs/5Mbps, the performance is stellar and it is rock solid reliable which is important since I need to remote access work sites a lot after hours. The customer service people and the install tech were all terrific and very helpful. As of 2018, Volcano Communications is everything good that you could want in a communications service. read more

Needed to get a new DVR that works properly and was told I could not just swap it out for a new one but needs to be at home between the hours of 8-12 to get a new one. It's now 12:15 and still no technician!?! Second time this has happened with this company. About ready to switch to something different like streaming instead. HORRIBLE SERVICE! It is really sad that Volcano has monopolized the upcountry area. The phone/internet works 50% of the time. Their customer service is one of the worst I've ever experienced. You have to wait on hold every time, then when you finally talk to someone, they are beyond rude and act like you are putting them out for them doing their job. We just got set up with AT&T today and we are getting 2x faster internet, free long distance and unlimited data for $50 cheaper than Volcano. I encourage everyone to switch services and shut the Volcano crooks down. It would be one thing if the workers treated people with respect and they had a decent service. If Volcano communication wants to stay afloat, I would suggest firing all of the BEYOND rude people that work there and replace them with decent people that can actually deal with customers in a respectful manner. I live in Volcano and they don't offer cable tv on the road I live on. they are the only provider in the area and ATT informed me it is their "tarrif" and they are not aloud to provide service up the hill from Jackson so we are stuck. the internet is horrible it wont even load videos from face book. customer support is no support. I wish someone would start a class action law suit so we could get different carriers in this area. read more

I've been stuck with Wildblue for many years. I had heard Volcano had added towers in the last year. Scott and George came out to do a site survey. They were honest up front saying it was doubtful I could get a signal. However they went the extra mile traveling all around my property looking for a spot and they found one!!!! It wasn't the easiest install as the location was approximately 300' away from my house and up a steep hill. They were very helpful in guiding me through the prep work needed to mount a pole and lay conduit. Then they provided the necessary cable. After 10+ years of crappy satellite internet I know have very nice internet speed with no data caps. The extra effort and the individual touch from a local company meant a lot to my family. After one months use the service has been flawless. read more
