We got a few bids for our master bath remodel but ultimately decided to go with Volcano Builders because we thought their bid was priced right (not cheapest or more expensive) and they were extremely communicative through the process. Bar was our project manager, and he made sure that everything continued to be done correctly and on time. If there was any bad news to give us (delays, etc) he wouldn't be shy about telling us, which we appreciated. We hired Volcano Builders in 2021 for a large scale remodel. In the past year, we have been working on several projects to repair the poorly done projects that they did. This included adding back a load-bearing beam to the ceiling that was removed by Volcano, repainting poorly painted walls, and redoing flooring that was poorly done. We are disappointed that Bar will not cover any of the work that has needed to be repaired. (He has offered to repair it, but our experience with this company was so poor that we prefer to use a different contractor whom we trust.) For the sake of those reading my review, I am going to add that Bar did not do any of the work done on our house - people employed by him did. read more

I don't know where to start with this review, other than you could not pay me to work with Volcano Builders again. Our experience with this company was absolutely horrendous. After speaking with Bar on the phone, we arranged a meeting and estimate with one of his project managers, Husam. We wanted some stone laid on our fireplace, install built in vanities and flooring shelves. We were told this would not be a problem, and the project should take approximately two weeks. We did understand that this time could be somewhat increased due to shipping of materials. Project began around August 10, 2021. Husam showed up on the first day with one of his workers, and bags of newly purchased tools from Home Depot. I guess this should have been my first red flag- a project manager with no tools? We continued to run into "hiccups" from then on: 1. The shelves we were told would be custom made were not. We were then asked to do our our shopping for these, because Volcano Builders couldn't find anything. We ended up having to settle and order from Pier I. 2. Shiplap was installed on our wall. When got home, we noticed our compressor was being used without our knowledge or permission, meaning Husam went through our tools in our garage. This was not the first nor the last time he borrowed our tools. What contractor goes to projects without at least a measuring tape? 3. Our fireplace had to be moved when the stone was installed. When they removed parts, they didn't put a certain piece back in. Originally, we were told Husam was "the fireplace expert". He had no idea what he was doing, and then proceeded to gas light us for two months saying it was not broken. Our first complain was made in October. The first sub-contract to another's company was made early December. They told us they would not/could not touch it, because they had not done the original work, but they did tell Husam how to fix it. He didn't. He called them out again, Dale message was given. Still not fixed. At one point, Husam was even out here with another project manager GOOGLING how to fix it... he's the fireplace guy?! 4. Husam slowly stopped communicating with us, and with the plethora of other issues we had, we were given a new project manager, Coral. He promised us he would get our project done to our satisfaction, and he would be much better at communicating. He wasn't. Both he and Husam showed a pattern of only speaking with my husband, and they would not respond to me. On multiple occasions, my husband had to ask them to text or call me. If you are a woman looking to hire, beware! 5. After Coral was not able to fulfill our needs, we were given a new project manager. We later found out they subcontracted, again, to a partner company. This contractor also called in a new fireplace guy. Finally, in February (6 months after the project began!) our fireplace was fixed with the exact parts Husam was told to get in October. 6. Husam installed all of the doors on our vanities wrong. They were not aligned or leveled. Pictures showing. We had to ask that all the doors be replaced. read more

5 stars from us! Volcano Builders completed our tub to shower conversion in about 2 weeks. We are thrilled with the end result and have shared his name with several other people in our condo building who are also interested in taking out their tub. The owner, Bar Unger, was great as were all the other members of his team. He answered texts promptly and returned calls in a very timely manner. We really cannot say enough good things about this company- including Kimberley who so patiently explains any office/billing questions. The bid was excellent, they stayed within the bid and completed things as promised, leaving things as clean and tidy as possible when working in a 922 sq ft condo! read more

Shame on you Bar Unger (owner) Volcano Builders My experience with Volcano builders was extremely violating and traumatic. I hired Bar Unger to install new flooring and remodel a bathroom. The flooring installation was poorly done, but I didn't realize the extent of how poorly the job was until after fully paying Volcano. Bar refused to accept the obvious defects to the flooring. After multiple attempts to try to get Bar to fix the flooring I hired a floor inspector whose report stated that the flooring was NOT installed up to manufacturer's recommendations. The inspector's conclusion was that if I was to take this case to court, it would be a "SLAM DUNK" Faced with this, Volcano gave money back to me to have the floors reinstalled. The bathroom was also done in a sloppy manner. Ultimately, the lack of integrity, deceit and biased behavior that I received from Volcano Builders caused harm, disruption to my family and a complete waste of time and money. read more

To start with...I won't be able to say enough about this company. I'll start from the beginning...I wanted a bathroom remodel so I hired a company called Total Renovation with the owner being Jake/Keanu, they came and did the demo which took weeks only for them to leave me with a bathroom that was just demoed and nothing more...they did manage to put up what I call "wet board" in the shower and their plumber came and roughed drafted the shower and then they were no show, I called left messages and texted and no reply...what am I to do now...who am I going to find that is willing to finish a project that was started by another company...I found a couple and got estimates and then we contacted Volcano Builders and had to send pictures of what we were left with. Bar came to the house and took a look and seen what we had left to do...I was still worried that it was going to be a no go...this amazing man seen the looks on our faces and I'm sure he felt the pain we were experiencing and gave us an estimate. He was so willing to take on a project that someone else had started...who does that...Volcano Builders does!!! They did such an amazing job. We are so pleased with what was done and now all we have left is the shower doors which is on order and my husband to put up the accessories...in a 6 week time frame we have a finished bathroom...Thank you Bar and your team...You ROCK!!!! If there was a zero, it would still be too high of a rating. Like many of the reviews, we started out on a solid note and we're eager to work with Volcano for our kitchen and downstairs remodel. After the first two weeks, things went south fast. Here are a few of the (many) lowlights of working with them: - You are sold on a process, structure and timeline-driven experience. This is not the reality. - Nobody in their office knows how to pull the permits that are not "over the counter." Even in that case, we had to remind them to secure them (often arguing when they would challenge the necessity of a permit-- what contractor challenges this?!) - Unskilled/ unlicensed professionals pulling wires and then asking if we were getting their work inspected by the city. - Working with them means you are adult-babysitting them. Managing their lack of communication with each other, their disorganization and general chaos became a second job. - The amount of people involved, seemingly all working on different schedules and projects is exhausting. Nobody knew what they are doing and projects get started and were left halfway completed before the next project began. - They only responded when my husband would be very harsh with them. As their main point of contact, this was infuriating. - I wish I'd seen the reviews, it would have saved a lot of time and energy. The one happy point was when we finally cut our contract off early before they had the chance to cause anymore chaos. read more

Volcano Builders have exceeded our expectations! Bar and his team helped us remodel 3 bathrooms. They helped us shop for our materials through their suppliers, Bar went above and beyond to get us the best prices. During the construction, communication was fantastic, we always felt in the loop with how the project is progressing. Overall construction went smooth with no hick ups, schedule went as planned and the finish result was better than we envisioned. As I write this review, we are finally closing out 4+ months of extra work and extra expense to fix the countless issues Volcano Builders left us with. There were many known issues that occurred when their team was onsite, but we continued to discover problems for months after they left. As hard as we tried to be patient, understanding about unforeseen circumstances, and assistive with project managing to help everyone stay communicative and organized with each other, unfortunately, this project turned out pretty disastrous for us. Among the many issues that occurred during this project for our bathroom reno + surrounding areas, I'll limit my review to some of the more egregious ones: - Volcano Builders never returned, as they had promised, to fix electrical issues that were incomplete and/or knowingly incorrect. Through our own investigation when trying to close out our construction permit with the city directly, we found out that an electrical permit had been required by the city and that Volcano Builders started applying for one on the last day they were onsite but never completed it (and never told us about it). At our own expense, we hired our own electrician to correct remaining issues and apply for an electrical permit. Our initial electrical inspection still failed and required our electrician to open our walls in 7 places, and then we then had to hire more help to drywall the holes once the permit was closed out. - Volcano Builders left a tremendous amount of garbage and leftover construction materials strewn throughout our garage/backyard/side yard that we have had great difficulty, to this day, properly disposing of. Most items are not allowed by the city to be disposed of within our weekly garbage collection. - After Volcano Builders left for the last time, we discovered: an 8' wide x 1' tall hole in our garage wall that was hidden by a pile of leftover materials, dripping plumbing lines sticking out of that same hole, permanent paint stains on the backside of the house and yard where paint brushes had been hosed off, improper replacement of the HVAC filter which had caused construction dust to cycle through our entire house for months, and so much more. - At an earlier design meeting with Bar, the GC, and the architect when defining the project's SOW, we specifically stated that it was crucial for the bedroom next to the to-be bathroom to remain a bedroom for resale value (a non negotiable). We were assured and misled that the bedroom's status would still remain a bedroom if the closet was inside the new bathroom and the entry to the new bathroom was accessed from within the bedroom. During demo, we learned that this was not true, and everyone had to pivot to change the closet design so that it was accessed within the bedroom to maintain the bedroom's status for resale value. - Volcano Builders lacked transparency with us in real time about what happened with the main subcontractor when he suddenly disappeared. We learned that he had left many errors, some that Volcano Builders fixed, some that we had to ask them to fix, and some that we found were too late to fix (examples: door frames measured incorrectly, poor drywalling, hot water running to the toilet, hot/cold backwards, electrical issues, flooring issues). - There were constant communication issues with the entire Volcano Builders team, for example: committing to follow up about specific questions/emails/etc. by X date but not hearing back for weeks without us prompting for a response, thinking appointments were scheduled that never were, cancelling an inspection that was promised to be rescheduled but was never followed up on, sending an unwarranted change order that we had actually preemptively asked about but never received a response on, and more. Despite the unbearable amount of disorganization, poor communication, and severe lack of oversight, all of the folks with Volcano Builders, including the many subcontractors we interacted with, were always kind and courteous. Although, similarly to another review that mentioned this, just about everybody we interacted with would only speak with my husband and not me (though I drove this project end-to-end as I would with a project at my work!) read more

I had the most bizarre experience with this company. A representative came out to give an estimate on converting a large storage room on our lower floor into an exercise room. He didn't seem like he really knew what questions to ask relative to the other people I had come out to bid, and he kept talking about Bar, the guy who must own the company, who he said was traveling in Israel at the time. Then he pulled out a blank contract and told me if I signed today I could get a discounted price for starting the work next week, and just gave me a per square foot cost. I told him I'd need to see specifics of what that included, e.g. framing, drywall, insulation, electrical, HVAC, doors, etc. He didn't seem to know how to write up the estimate, so I told him he could email it to me. I never heard back from him or anyone at the company - I suspect once it became clear I wasn't just going to sign a blank contract and actually expected some specifics that he wasn't interested. read more
