This place is okay, not the worst Italian restaurant in the area, but certainly not the best. I ordered the Ragu Rigatoni special with meatballs, pork, and sausage. They are very generous with their meat portions for the price, which was nice. However, the meatballs were not good. They were frozen and not homemade, which is unacceptable for an Italian restaurant in North Jersey. read more

One of my favorite restaurants in the area. The prices are awesome and it's byob. Amazing traditional Italian food!! Everything I've ordered here is delicious, they have great specials as well. Eat at Volares, you won't be disappointed. read more

Our perksatwork coupon was not honored because according to our server, we ordered food that's not part of the coupon which didn't restrict us on what food we can order. We requested that the bill be split to allow us to use the coupon She didn't budge, not even 1 cent. She didn't even look at the coupon - right away she said no. Btw, the food is average. There are other better restaurants. read more

This is my favorite place is Bergen County. Best food by far. Big portions. Great staff. BYOB. Some nights they have singer/entertainers. Make reservation when possible. read more

We had our daughter's baptism here on Saturday. Everything was wonderful! Our family kept asking how we found this restaurant ( we aren't local, but it was local to where she was baptized) and saying how they wanted to return. The staff was so kind and went above and beyond to make sure our daughter's day was special. And the food was delicious! My husband and I look forward to going back for dinner! read more

Wonderful family meal for three delivered quickly and hot for ~$34. Garden salad, sautéed vegetables, then a choice of short pastas. My favorite so far has been the Penne with Vodka sauce. The two main courses that I've tried- Chicken Fontina and Chicken Marsala- were thin slices of chicken with different sauces, both were tasty, but Marsala was the favorite. Carrot cake was ok- will try the tiramisu next time. Portions were ample enough to have some for midnight snack or for lunch the next day. Volares is my new go to delivery! read more

Every dish I have eaten at Volares has been delicious. Their family weekend special is a spectacular, filling, extremely fresh, delicious and reasonably priced meal. Your entire family will eat and there will still be food left over for the next day. The deserts do not disappoint. Top shelf. This is a hidden gem in Rutherford and you need to make your way there for some authentic Italian fare. The sauces are out of this world. You can taste the tomato freshness and blends of spices that they use to flavor them. My taste buds tell me these sauces are made in-house. They are way too delicious to be a commercial preparation, particularly because the flavor of the sauce does change slightly from dinner to dinner and that can only happen when you are making it fresh from different batches of tomatoes. read more

This is probably our favorite restaurant in Rutherford. It's very small, but doesn't feel cramped. The staff is very polite and attentive, especially the owner, who is always waiting tables herself. The food is fantastic and is very reasonably priced (especially the $15 pre fixe dinner). The menu is pretty large and is always augmented by an abundance of daily specials. I've lived in Rutherford for 6 months and have probably already eaten at Volare's five times. Every meal that we have had there has been comfortable, affordable, and delicious. I have not disliked a single thing that I have ordered at Volare's. Also, being a BYOB never hurts. read more

There is nothing "elegant" or "upscale" about this restaurant. We came from out of town looking for a nice Italian restaurant to have dinner at on Sunday night. From the moment we walked in we're greeted by a sign at the door saying the credit card machine isn't woek so customers must pay cash only. Not exactly convenient for a dinner we knew would cost us upwards of $100, but ok at least they let us know up front. We were greeted by a waitress who seemed a bit frazzled and shown to a table. When the waitress came to take our order she let us know that the kitchen was backed up and that it would be about 45 mins before they could get any food out. Mind you there were only a handful of customers in the restaurant besides us. We asked if we could at least get some appetizers or something while we waited. The waitress told us nothing would be leaving the kitchen for at least 45 minutes. No thank you! The restaurant atmosphere wasn't even that inviting. We decided to go elsewhere. read more

Volare's has never disappointed. We always find the chicken parmesean and eggplant rollatini plentiful and cooked perfectly. After over 20 visits, we will keep returning. Old reliable, and always a treat. read more

Just tried this restaurant for the first time last night. We liked it. We started with a fried calamari appetizer. It was all rings. The rings were pretty small but well cooked and tender. The portion was ok and came with a side of tomato sauce. My entree was pasta with seafood. The sauce was good. The portion was ok. My companion had stuffed chicken and enjoyed it. Service was good. The only downside is that it was very loud. We'd go back. read more

If it wasn't for this place being a BYOB, i really don't know how my table would have gotten thru the night. First, our waitress had such a horrible attitude. We need a couple minutes to order and you could tell it was getting to her. Sorry, but if we need a couple minutes to order, we need a couple minutes to order... and if we need a couple minutes more, then we need a couple minutes more. Then when the salads arrived we didn't know they all came with Caeser dressing so when my friend's wife (who is pregnant) asked if there was raw egg in the dressing, it was almost a catastophe that they had to swap it out.. Then to top it off it took 20 minutes for a new salad to come out with the correct dressing. 20 minutes.. really? Onto the main course YAY!.... Our pasta side arrived and without hesitation, the small bowl of pasta almost flew off the plate it was on. If it was busy, i can understand as having worked in the restaurant industry for over 7 years, it can get busy and you do what you gotta' do. But there was almost nobody in the place. There should be a disclaimer on their website to bring a catchers mit. Sorry but if you're serving us leave your issues at home. I don't care if your boyfriend skinned your puppy and impaled it's head in your front yard, DON'T TAKE IT OUT ON US BY THROWING FOOD ON THE TABLE! I didn't know that chicken parm was 85% marinara sauce and 4% mozz' cheese? It has 'Parm' in the description of the dish for a reason. Stop being cheap and put cheese on my chicken parm please.... We had the food runner / bus boy load up the grated cheese so i could feel like i we somewhat got what we ordered. The dish was 'eh'. PS. The food runner / bus boy was the only person on the floor who was outstanding, polite and actually made sure we had what we needed. Promote this guy to waiter please. DESSERT: N/A... why risk it. And we're ready to pay! We asked for the check and upon reviewing the check it appeared that we were overcharged! Are you for real, honey. You scribbled over the prices and made up new ones. Who on God's green earth do you think you are to make the prices different that what they are posted in the menu?????!!!!!! So not only did we get so-so chicken parm, but were overcharged for it. So we did what any customer would to and left a crappy-a$$ tip. And now as i'm writing this review, i regret leaving anything at all. I would never recommend this restaurant to ANYBODY. The wait staff was rude and overall unacceptable, with the exception of the bus boy. i'm surprised they didn't charge us for our own drinks. My suggestion is to close up and start over....perhaps as a hot dog stand. read more

After doing some research and going by reviews I've seen online, I decided to have a celebratory get together at Volare's. The reviews and the experience did not disappoint. Denise was great and super accommodating while trying to plan and the gentleman (that I never got his name!) was so helpful as well. There were 16 of us and everyone loved their food - from appetizers, entrees to dessert! There's something for everyone on the menu, and the pastas are homemade which is an added plus. The prices were reasonable, portions were perfect and the ambiance was great. The staff was wonderful and you felt like family by the time you left. It's a quaint, BYOB family style restaurant and you may miss it if you don't know it's there... but look for it because it's definitely a delicious meal you'll enjoy. We'll definitely be back for the take out special and to dine in. :) read more

My husband and I decided to visit on NYE since the place looked very cute from photos online and the menu looked to be authentic. We have been on the search for small italian restaurants since our favorites have closed down. Upon arriving it took a few minutes for someone to greet us, we were seated in the middle of the dining too at an extremely small table. Seated for not even 5 mins and were asked 3 times if we were ready to order. Why are you trying to pressure and rush us into ordering. My husband is over 6ft tall and extremely muscular, he was feeling uncomfortable at this tiny table with people brushing up against his chair constantly, so we politely asked if we could move to a larger table that was set for 2 near us. Instead of saying "sure" like any other legit restaurant would, they made it seem like there was an issue we even asked and the "owner" started clearly huffing and puffing over this request. They allowed us to move and helped bring over our water and wine but with such an attitude. Then i was asked if i wanted my coat hung up and i relied "yes" but as i was grabbing my purse and taking my coat off the chair she walked away. OK, nvm i guess. Our appetizers came out and tasted pretty good which left us hopeful for our entrees. Scratch that, when my salad came out there was some type of undefinable dressing, i took one bite and left that aside(not good). My husband ordered the surf and turf, the steak was cooked well but not seasoned correctly(too much salt) and the lobster was a little chewy. My meal was meatballs (that seemed have been frozen) with braciole and linguini. The pasta was over cooked and the sauce was very watery and over all the meal was extremely salty. I ate a few meatballs because i needed some food in my stomach and left my dish alone. NO I DO NOT WANT THIS TO TAKE HOME. We passed on dessert and asked for our check. We noticed on our bill the price changed on the surf & turf, from $30.95 to $32.95. We looked at a menu from the table next to us and pointed this out to our server, she acted like she didn't know when it was clear these menus were just changed, not smart when you hand write in prices sloppily and scribble over it. we would have respected you even a little bit if you notified us, instead of trying to be slick about it. I will never return to this business and make sure my friends know not to as well. Next time you decide to treat people like this think about what is can actually cost you. I suggest for these people to take a class in customer service and learn how to treat customers. I can now understand why mom & pop places are shutting their doors all over jersey. Sometimes we don't want to go to a large chain but knowing we will be treated properly makes a huge difference. What a waste of $100. read more

Best Italian food in the area! We have been coming here for over 2 years and have not had a bad experience. The staff is great and the ALL the food is delicious. They also give you a free salad with every meal. read more

This is a tough one. I was a little presumptuous in thinking this was going to be great and would be our new go-to spot. Based on one visit for a group of four the reservation was spot on. We showed up on time and were promptly seated. The service was fine and polite, however, the food was really unimpressive. No one really liked their meal. Mine was alright. That was disappointing. The place is fairly small thus it was a bit difficult for conversation especially if there is a large group sitting next to you. I really wanted to like it there but it did not work for my group of 4. read more

I don't understand how anyone can give this restaurant a 1 rating?? My husband and i live in Lyndhurst which is one town over and anyone who knows the area knows that we have our fair share of italian restaurants around here. Denise is always very accommodating and her dinning staff is super friendly. The homemade food speaks for itself, simply fantastic!!! Since everything is made to order you can get anything you want the way you want it, which is one of the many reasons we love this restaurant. The homemade gnocchi melts in your mouth and the osso bucco falls off the bone. Since the first time we came here we were instantly hooked and have now become regulars. read more

Good homey Italian food. Special prix fix menu on Sunday. Good service and BYOB. Only minor issue is the difficulty in finding parking.

Robert and Denise were lovely hosts. Food was very good. Great value. Great ambience. With Rutherford being dry you must BYOB. There is a small store work a great wine selection three doors up the street. Will go back for sure on next trip. read more

After my second time ordering from them while in town on business, and having ordered a variety of menu items, I must say I'm sold. I'd done delivery on both occasions and the food always arrived hot and in a very quick amount of time. Their cold antipasto is excellent, and is loaded up with delicious meats, vegetables and cheeses. Tonight I had an incredible eggplant parm sandwich and the previous time I remember loving a penne entree consisting of eggplant, cheese and marinara sauce. The prices are definitely reasonable and I surely will order from Volares again my next time in town. read more

Restaurant is lots of fun. On Friday nights they have 50 - 60s music. It's great, the entire restaurant sings along and gets up and dances. Most tables stayed the entire night. The wait staff was very good. It's BYOB. read more

5 stars for take out. It did take longer then expected but it was also a very busy Saturday night so it was understandable. We ordered a 'Family Dinner' which was wonderful value. The food was terrific and portions were generous. We look forward to eating in the restaurant next time. read more

With 15+ check ins and having used them for catering events this review is long overdue. This local BYOB has quickly become one of our favorite go to's in town and is always consistent in quality of food and friendly above and beyond service. The specials are always excellent and something to look forward to... especially when the pork osso buco, short ribs, panko chicken in a pink truffle sauce, and eggplant tower are on the menu. Amazing value for what you get and would HIGHLY recommend! read more

Last night was my first time dining at Volare and I must say it was a great experience. From the moment my girlfriend and I walked through the door we were greeted and immediately asked where we would like to sit. Their menu has many selections, but they did let us know that their four course pre fixe option was the favorite among customers. I had the mussels in garlic wine, tomato & onion salad, and the chicken marsala. My girlfriend opted for the mozzarella & tomato, caesar salad, and the shrimp francese over linguini. The food, ambiance, and the service was amazing and I definitely will go back soon. Plus their banana nut pound cake was also very delicious. At a price of $14.99 per person Volare is definitely a hidden gem in Rutherford. read more

This restaurant is awful! First we waited almost 25 minutes before they even took our order. We waited almost an hour for the appetizer to even come. When we asked the waitress, who I'm pretty sure was the owner, where our food was because it had been almost an hour, she snapped at us and said "It hasn't been an hour." She stormed off. We ended up canceling our order and leaving because we had tickets for a movie. They did not charge us for the appetizer. We would have been fine with the wait if they had nicely explained what the problem was, but their tone was abrasive and there was no apology at all. We have been to this restaurant quite a few times over the years and never experienced this. Guess an off night for them, but we will not be going back. read more

I ORDERED FOOD TONIGHT AND SPECT OVER $100.00 for 3 people and the best thing was the garlic bread. Pasta was overcooked shrimp were tough and hard chicken and vegetables had no taste other than boiled and broth was totally bland I really was disappointed in this after working all day you order dinner to relax and enjoy and this is what I got I threw three quarters out never again pricey for nothing read more

First time ordering since my usual spot was closed for vacation. Ordered the family takeout for three - the meal was beyond expectation. The sauces (marinara and vodka sauce) were outstanding, real authentic Italian food. A family of four was able to eat (portions are generous) including leftovers for the next day. will definitely be back again. Superb read more

Volares is awesome they make great food and are generally pleasant people. It's not rocket science to make a chicken parm or a chicken parm sandwich but you would be surprised how many people around here can't execute. Volares has a wide range of dishes that make the grade. One of my favorite places close to home in Rutherford plus the whole town is byob so that keeps the price way down if you want to have wine with dinner or something a bit stronger. read more

The pictures actually look good but don't be fooled by that. We stopped here on our way to a concert because of the great reviews and it was horrible. The salad dressing tastes like mayo. I ordered chicken Marsala. It was tasteless. My husband ordered chicken parm. He also said it was tasteless. The breading on his chicken was soggy. The soup was cream of broccoli and it was not good at all. read more

Came here for Mother's Day. Service was great. Had a hiccup with our appointment since our daughter passed out and they gladly changed it. It's a small restaurant. Brought out bread which was nice and warm. Nice selection from the menu. Also a cool thing is you can BYOB. Awesome. Food was great and even dessert was great read more

I ordered food for delivery knowing that the food was going to be good from the first time when I ordered the spaghetti. Tonight I ordered the Eggplant Parmesan with French fries. The delivery driver wasn't very pleasant and the food was only slightly warm. I was not happy so I called the restaurant and talked to the owner expressing my concern. She was very understanding and sent the delivery girl back with a full refund immediately! I wasn't expecting that at all - just wanted the business to know how their front line employees were representing the company I heated my food up and it tasted delicious as expected. read more

Lovely homely Italian restaurant with great food and to top it off the service is great too BYOB so don't forget that nice bottle of wine!

I highly reccommend this place as a staple and favorite restaurant of the area! Service is warm and attentive and ambiance is inviting for families and couples alike. I particularly like the veal and chicken parm, all fish dishes and their house salad dressing is excellent. If you havent eaten here yet, check it out asap!! read more

Food is very good, but only 3 stars for the staff attitude. Long list of specials, maybe over 20 items of appetizers, salads, pastas, and meat & fish. No prices on any of them!! When this was mentioned, the hostess said that "gee nobody else ever asked". WHAT?? So in other words, there was something WRONG with us for wanting to know what we would pay for an item!! And I guess maybe the hostess feels that maybe there should be NO prices on any restaurant menu, anywhere? The food is good, if a bit on the heavy side. You do have to stick to the (unpriced) specials, though. One item ordered from the regular menu was so so. Because of the attitude and no pricing on the many specials (why??) we will not return. read more

Went Sunday night for their price fix menu. 6 adults 2 children, the food was great, the service was great, friendly and accommodating. We had an infant in a high chair. This place is SO good! Every time I come into town, Volares is on my list! For the appetizers : the eggplant rollatini and mozzarella carrozza are mouth watering, just enough sauce . And for entrees -the filet mignon (when available) melts in your mouth and the chicken franchise is literally made perfect. Service is great. Accommodating large parties can be tricky, but anytime I've went it's been with 7+ people and they've executed phenomenally, timing every course to the tee. There's a wine shop/ beer shop around the corner to grab a beverage before heading over for, what might be, the best meal of your life. read more

Volare's is hands down my favorite place for Italian! I've never had anything less than amazing from this place. Their specials are AMAZING! I second Alex's love of mulfatta! I actually nicknamed this dish little pillows of heaven. If you have a large group they make a great appetizer. If they have calamri chino as a special and you eat squid...GO FOR IT! It's an twist on the classic with a sweet ginger topping sauce. Yum Denise and all of the wait staff are knowledgeable about the menu and all dish's preparation. They make each dish to order so if you're not a fan of an ingredient they are more than happy to leave it out, or add something in if you're craving it! It's BYOB so that helps to keep the cost of the evening down.(and there's a liquor store two doors down) read more
