I've only ordered takeout from here, but the food is good and portions are generous. They have a takeout special that comes with an entree, salad, pasta, sides, and bread and is enough food to last my wife and I two meals at least. Definitely one of our go to spots in the area. read more

They have a prix fix menu here that is what brought us in. The food is what finally sold us. You can't lose. Their regular menu may be a bit pricey, but the quality of pasta and their sauce is worth every penny. BYOB makes this place that much better. We were treated like gold, like we had been going there for years. I got my favorite vodka sauce plate and found myself cleaning the plate with their bread as to not blaspheme their delicious sauce. Writing this makes me remember I haven't been there in a while and make me want to go as I am writing this. Give it a try and be amazed. Hell, they even deliver! read more

I tried Volare's again, and I had a far better experience. The management truly aims to please their customers. They take great pride in their quality, and it was apparent (I'm a very discriminating eater, so that is not an easy feat!). Their soup was top notch. The quality ingredients of their Chicken Marsala was evident. Even their bread was such good quality. :) read more

VERY DISAPPOINTED! I think this place think if you give a lot of food you can skimp on quality. I bet the "chef" has never been exposed to real Italian food. Sorry. No different than Olive Garden. read more

Perfect combination of good food, casual atmosphere, friendly staff and decent prices. TIP: Always order from the specials menu. You're saving money from the fact that it's BYO, so cough up some coin and get one of the specials they are jazzed to be making that day, not one of the meals on the weekday discount menu. The specials will keep you coming back again and again. The owner/manager (Denise) is a real sweetheart and a character - get to know her. read more

Their food quality is always fresh and savory. Their dishes remind me of homestyle Italian cooking. Always a great experience dining in.

Wonderful restaurant! Their four course dinners are fabulous for the prices! Be sure to try their muscles, they are absolutely delicious! Very sweet mother and son duo who take pride in what they do, you can tell! Thanks for the fabulous meal! read more

The food and wait staff at this restaurant are great. However, being regulars and generous tippers, we were disappointed tonight in the hostess who took and processed our check, while paying cash, and ASSUMED no change was needed. Resulting in a 30% tip. Very unprofessional! read more

I had a Sunday pasta dish with meatballs, ribs, and braciola and meat sauce. This is one of the best dishes you can have in a restaurant. I feel this is the best restaurant in Rutherford. The salad is wonderful and the hot bread is good and the service is prompt and the service waiters/waitresses were very nice. GREAT PLACE. Dom read more

A diamond in the Rough! Coming back from NYC on a Sunday night, we were lost in Rutherford and stopped for dinner at Volare's restaurant. Attempting to find a full service restaurant that serves a fresh meal in NJ on a Sunday night can be quiet challenging. As we walked into the restaurant, we were greeted by Denise (Proprietor) and were led to a table that was suitable for our kids. We were attended to by the staff Jessie and Sid who were friendly and professional (They actually replaced everyones flatware between every course). Denise explained the menu and advised quiet accurately as to the best way to order. The appetizers were fresh, light and airy rather than the traditional heavy sauce and cheese that you get at most Italian restaurants. The salad course was served on a chilled plate. The pasta was freshly made that day and cooked to perfection by the chef Alfredo. The desert was delectable and our kids commented on how they loved this restaurant. We rarely write a review, but Volare's Proprietors Denise and Robert have truly created a gem. Their staff are professional and courteous. The chef has mastered his menu and cares for the product and its presentation. The atmosphere is nice and the prices are fare. We highly recommend that you stop and try this diamond in the rough. We almost forgot its BYOB so bring a wine that will match an exceptional meal. Sincerely Michael read more

This place is amazing. Better than any city restaurant!!! Food is always fresh and made to order. Staff is friendly and attentive. Make sure you ask for the hot blond Cid!!!! read more

Volares - Italian Near Me - Rutherford, New Jersey

See all

Nice restaurant, good food. Returning customer with a reservation. Even with open tables, had to wait. Not concerned if we promptly seated.

Consistently the best time every time we are there. We are always a party of 7 and enjoy ourselves!!! The stuffed artichokes for appetizer were heavenly. Each leaf was stuffed and overflowing with goodness. My husband compared them to his late grandmothers... And that's an amazing compliment. The crispy veal entree was divine. 5 of the 7 had that. The short rib ravioli with vodka sauce and olives was so tender that it melted in your mouth. Dessert was the cherry on top!! The toasted almond cake... To die for. As well as the tiramisu. Oh and the pizelles with cannoli cream-heaven! There is a lot to say about a restaurant that takes the time and effort to creat amazing dishes with that homemade flair! Customers for life! read more

Volares has never disappointed! Living around the corner and dining in or ordering many many times has made this a staple for my husband and I. The portions are huge, food is delicious and service is fantastic. It's a completely underrated restaurant on the strip of hundreds in Rutherford, and it's easily one of, if not our only favorite. read more

Great dinner at our favorite restaurant! Celebrating our 49 th Anniversary! Warm and friendly atmosphere with nice people to talk with.

My fiancé and I have been going to Volares for a couple years. The food is great as well as the atmosphere. It's a nice small quiet restaurant. There has been one aspect of our experience every time we go that we don't like would be the owner/host. She seems as if we are bothering her when we have questions. Her answers are very short. There is no smile and doesn't make us feel welcome there. The first time we went we thought she was just having a bad day but it years later and she acts the same towards us. Not acceptable. I deal with public for 25+ years and would never treat or make my customers not feel welcome. Don't think we will be going back. Food is important but respect is more. read more

Have been going to Volare's for 3 years (and I don't live in Rutherford). While I have an italian restaurant right down the block where I live, Volare's service, food, and ambiance make the 30 minute drive seem like nothing. I love that it is BYOB and the pricing is very reasonable for what they give you. This should be on the top of your list for a great night out. read more

Always enjoy the food, owner and staff friendly. We tend to swap out ingredients in certain dishes and we are always accommodated. Not a very large place, but roomy enough. Would definitely recommend. read more

Volares is always delicious! If you're just two or with a group, you'll always get great service. This is definitely a place you want to get an appetizer (or a few), entree and dessert because you'll never go wrong with the menu choices. They have a great rotation of Specials and it is BYOB. They have a great family pack for take out that comes in handy. They know what they're doing over there :) read more

I came in a large party of 14 people. I was the only one to remember this place, and the memory was not great, but since I'm along with a group and I'm not paying the $15 for the mother's day entree, fine by me. I'd give it another shot and hope for the best I said to myself. The menus looked like they were hand written by a 10 year old, you could even see the lines of the notebook paper on it. It was hard to read it and very unprofessional as if it was a giant joke. The table ordered a full meal including appetizers and an entree. The handwriting was so bad I had to ask a waiter what they had. First came the bread, fresh out of the oven. It took quite a bit of time to finally get a bread basket on the table, To be honest, I've had better bread, but it was alright. I tried to talk to someone, but I could hear almost nothing, barely even the person next to me with the atmosphere of the place being so loud. About 30 minutes passed and the appetizers finally arrived. We had calamari and bruschetta. The calamari was served both plain and with a honey ginger sauce along with a gravy boat of red sauce. The Calamari in the Asian inspired sauce was pleasant and great. It brought my hopes up, the bruschetta was pretty nice, a bit basic, nothing that set my taste buds ablaze with praises of joy, but it was good and lifted my spirits a bit over the food, thinking they might have improved since the last time or that it was a one off. Then I tried the mussels: I never really eat them, but I thought I would try them. Something tasted a bit wierd and unpleasant with them. I thought it was me really, maybe I didn't like them even though I do enjoy a bit of seafood now and then. After this we waited a while for the salad. The salad was basic, undressed and nothing to write home about. They did put a generous helping of cheese on it though, which made it a bit better. I still sat there, taking out an iPod Touch to fiddle around since I can't really hear or speak to anyone. A long while later, the entree arrived. I had ordered Pork chop Milanese. The portions were generous, there was also a decent portion of vegetables. Unfortunately: The pork chop was overcooked and dry, the vegetables tasted like a bland mess. No flavor to them at all. I ate it anyway, since after 3 hours of waiting for dinner, I was starving. My brother was served a Filet Mignon which was extremely rare, he sent it back and it was given to him rare again as if they just walked back and forth with it. One of the people I could see had the duck, and it was an inedible disgusting dry mess. That poor duck. When it was all said and done though, after watching two people who footed the bill for it struggle with basic math. (Luckily I stepped in with a calculator on my iPod touch to fix this situation.) We went home, a group of 6 of us in the suv and none of us liked it at all. It was a disaster, but at least it was free. Overall I'd have to say it was a failure of a trip. The calamari started out strong because the sauce they used was excellent. A diamond in a pile of dirt. Then it was all down hill and the wait time was ridiculous. We were there for 3 hours. It took more than 2.5 hours to get to the main course for goodness sake and it was difficult to talk to one another since the restaurant was extremely noisy. So my recommendation is to skip this place and go to one of the many other restaurants in Rutherford. The area is filled with great restaurants and this is not one of them. A poorly cooked meal that takes3 hours in a place nobody can hear the person next to them feels like a punchline rather than an interesting proposition. read more

Great place love that it's BYOB. Also love the fact that you can get a half order of their entrees if your not a real big eater

Had been curious about Volares, so off we went armed with a $25 rest.com certificate. Well, it started out strong w/good salad & vy. good past fagioli soup (although in retrospect there were very few beans and not all that much pasta). My BF & I actually ordered 3 entrees (since we only had soup as an app & don't mind leftovers). Well, we had a pasta & eggplant dish & asked them to add grilled chicken...they did & charged us $5 for a very, very thin piece of chicken (I would estimate it at maybe 3 ounces...not kidding) cut up in slices & placed on top of the pasta (bringing the entree to about $20). We had a shrimp/pasta/pesto special: $22.95 for 4 shrimp & the pasta/pesto concoction was swimming (and I mean swimming) in oil....the kicker here is that I am almost POSITIVE I asked ahead of time how much that special would be & I was told $21.95. OK, onward... Lastly, I had the salmon, which was pretty good, but a relatively small portion (around $20). To add insult to injury, they added a 20% tip (the certificate said they would add 18%) to the total, including the tax!!! Not that I'm confrontational, but normally I don't miss an opportunity to "stand up for myself." However, I wasn't feeling so hot & didn't want to "spoil" the evening, so I let it go, which now I somewhat regret, as it's the principle of the thing. The bill, including tax & tip came to $90, which was reduced to $65 w/the rest.com certificate (and it's BYO...these totals do not include any beverages or dessert). Bottom line is that the quality/quantity of the food just didn't justify the prices, and they lost a start for questionable business practices. I do have to say, though, that the service was very good & they were very friendly. Still, there are better places to go to for that kind of $$. read more

This is our Go-To Place to eat on Saturday night. This isn't a fancy expensive restaurant, but the food is always fresh and good. Can't beat the prices and the staff is always attentive, polite and happy to see you. BYOB Love this place read more

Last month I wrote a rave review of Volare's. a return trip two weeks ago resulted in my entire meal so poorly prepared that I will never return. My entire meal tasted as though it was reheated ... from the burnt bread to the oversized rubbery dry mussels to the tasteless veal Milanese topped with a salad that looked and tasted as though it sat for days. Never again. read more

I've been going to this restaurant every Thursday for the past few years. The food is authentic and flavorful. I think that I am a tough critic when it comes to service and I am never disappointed. The atmosphere is wonderful for couples and families looking for good service and great quality food! I've also attended several parties here and they go above and beyond every time. read more

We love this place. We drive over 20 mins from home to frequent the restaurant. Everything we have tried so far is rave for!

Great place! Best dinner deal in town. Super friendly staff. Authentic Italian food with a menu full of favorites. Definitely coming back.

Very cozy and comfortable place. Went over with my co-workers for lunch on a Friday. We were given a lot of attention and the prices weren't bad at all. However, when the check arrived there was a bit of confusion. There was a discount if you pay with cash instead of a credit card. The lady taking care of us did not explain that part. Regardless, the food is good and the place is comfy. read more

Friendly, clean, cozy. My parents love this spot, so I decided to tag along. Certainly wasn't disappointed! Got the shrimp francese early bird special (lol, with my parents y'all) - great flavor, shrimp were so sweet and big! Pasta cooked perfect. Go here! read more

Have ordered delivery and pick-up several times. Food is always fresh, hot, and delicious. Ive had the chicken parm which had a beautiful white blanket of fresh mozzarella on top. Also had the francese which was great. Delivery is always on time, with fresh soft bread. The owner of this place is so rude!! She was nasty when we first were seated. We made a reservation 2 months in advance and we were rushed, and not even offered coffee or desert because she wanted to turn over the table in the next 20 minutes after my party was done eating. I would NOT recommend this place just because the rudeness of the owner and the way we were rushed thru our dinner. Not a nice mix read more

About one month ago we stopped in on a Saturday night very early without reservation. Never had a problem seating before. They had a very loud party seated on the lower area. They just moved 2 people from a small table because they complained the large party was making noise. We watched as this happened waiting to be taken care of. The top seating area was 1/3 full. We were told the only seat we could have was the one abandoned be the last people next to the loud party. We frequent this restaurant once or twice a month. Not a way to treat people we left and will never go back. Service is gone to hell. read more

Went to this place twice and both times the service and food were great . It's a BYOB and they also have there own wines .

My family goes out for my grandpa's birthday every year, and it's a disaster every year except this one. Every person in our party of 13 was happy with both the food and the service, which NEVER happens. We were 10 minutes early, and our table was ready waiting for us. Thank you so much, Volares! Also, it's BYOB and right next to a liquor store. Can't go wrong with that. read more

We haven't eaten here often but when we do we are welcomed back like family. The waiter brings our favorite drink as soon as he sees us. Dining here is a great way to feel like a celebrity in a friendly atmosphere. The food is yummy. I cannot say enough about the crab cakes over black pasta. The restaurant is pretty and tastefully decorated. The waiters are great. It can take us awhile to choose from the many menu selections, but the waiters are always friendly. The only negative is that it can get noisy because everyone is having a great time. read more

Low quality food. Wait staff was nice and welcoming, with the exception of one woman who was constantly yelling in front of customers

Food was very good from the appetizers to the dessert...would definitely go back for another dinner...

Good food and friendly staff even after we showed up late for our reservation and kept them after closing. Very professional and it is much appreciated. read more

What a find! Nice family-owned BYOB Italian restaurant. I had my doubts about a $14.95 four course dinner, but it was so good, we came back two again two days later. Everything on the huge prix fixe menu is well-prepared, and more than ample. My son, who loves escargot, even got them as an appetizer--as part of a $14.95 dinner no less. I have never given a restaurant 5 stars, even in Paris, but this one deserves it for it's value, food, and attention to detail. If they had this restaurant where I live, they would be lined up around the block to get in. Well done, Denise. read more
