I and another student were also forced to tutor other students in the program during class time. I am unclear why I was given this bullying. Additionally, I saw on the alumni chat group that some alumni posted photos of bikini-clad women in response to a female alumni's message, and this was not moderated by the whomever was controlling the chat group. I am incredibly disappointed in this program and will be filing a complaint with the BBB and FTC.

It was fun,…read moreand intense, and I distinctly remember it being a work hard, get rewarded type of scenario. The instructors were fantastic, and the curriculum really taught you what you needed to know to succeed as an engineer in the valley. As grateful to the program as I am for what I learned there, what really amazes me is the support I continue to get from its Alumni Director, Marlene Tang. Marlene is truly a lighthouse in the dark when it comes to actually functioning as a software engineer in the industry. Sure, Hack Reactor had gotten me in the door, but Marlene not only keeps me in the building, she pushes me to climb to the top. She gives support in working, learning, growing, promoting... you name it, she's there. Recently, I left my previous company and started looking for my next home. I brought it up, and as usual, without hesitation, she dove right in, set up meetings with companies, reviewed resumes, emails, and made sure I stayed on track. I just signed my offer, and she was a huge part of it. All I had to do was study! I honestly don't know how she does it all with an ever growing network of Alumni. In addition to being a tremendous resource when you reach out to her, Marlene actively reaches out to the Alumni network to collect feedback and make it even better. She is ever present and if for some reason a HR graduate forgot about the immense support system available to them, it won't be long before Marlene is there to offer her precious time and energy. All in all, Hack Reactor was an amazing experience and I'll never forget it. The real start of the show, and the one thing that continues to provide immense value on a consistent basis is its extremely dedicated Alumni Director, Marlene, and her superhuman program. I can't emphasize enough that this is the one thing that puts Hack Reactor leaps and bounds ahead competition. Whether you're thinking about which boot camp to go to, or are currently a student, or have graduated long ago, you can rest assured that Marlene will take care of you.

I went through hack reactor a while back and am leaving a review…read more This part of the review is in hopes that hack reactor addresses some of their issues: During the cohort, there was a student that was expelled due to inappropriate jokes during a show and tell. However there were many other instances of inappropriate behavior never addressed. 1. There was a male student that had at the same time of the show and tell repeatedly walked around behind the audience checking out female staff and students backsides. He never faced any issues. 2. The male students had at points discussed female students and rated them based on looks and date-ability. 3. There were lunch trips that weren't appropriate. 4. Female students were judged differently based on their behaviors aligning with certain gender norms than male students. This directly did affect some of the ways their career paths developed. To hack reactor, stop enabling sexism even at the entry level to the field. Be more aware of biases within the instructors and have some training. In terms of the course merits based on their ability to help land a job: 1. I think the lead instructor at the time was good. The instructors for the actual cohorts varied in their experience and their ability to help students. The progress, results, and the cohort's feeling of togetherness (which does play a huge part in final team projects) depended in part on the cohort's instructors participation or willingness to be a leader. I think in general the cohort instructor I had was not as helpful nor as experienced to really be effective in teaching others. So while the overall course was decent at giving barebones fundamentals to some of the concepts in software engineering and structure to those that need it, the impact varied based on your cohort instructor. 2. The course is really geared to be successful for certain people. The prereqs does filter a lot of people out. The financial cost filters even more out. I think that for a lot of people trying to enter the field, it's not the best option available. Especially since the job market entry rate is more reflective of the individual's ability to ace interviews and the current job market availability and not the boot camps ability to necessarily train people.

I attended App Academy's 16-week in person software engineering program in San Francisco. Being able to have your instructors there with you and pair program with your peers in-person was invaluable. If being in-person is something you can commit to, I highly recommend it!  The coursework is extremely rigorous (about 8 hrs of lectures/programming during the day and a few more hours of readings/homework at night) and the job search after is even more rigorous. But they do provide you with all the tools you need to succeed with experienced instructors, opportunities to build projects to showcase your skills, and career workshops and partnership jobs after. The in-person curriculum may be lacking Python, but App Academy prepares you to learn and implement new languages and frameworks on your own.  I was previously a marketing manager with little coding experience. The job market was slow at the time I graduated App Academy and it took me 6 months to receive 2 software engineering offers. The program equips you with all the support you need from instructors, TAs, career coaches, and fellow students. I loved the structured curriculum, as it suited my learning style perfectly. However, be prepared for a very fast-paced environment that requires your full dedication. If you want to break into tech, learn how to code from scratch, and are willing to commit all your time to become a developer, I would definitely recommend App Academy. At the end of the day, success ultimately depends on your commitment and effort to secure your first job in the field, which is tough in this market. However, after completing the bootcamp, you will have the confidence to keep pushing forward.

I was part of Rithm 8 but resisted writing a review too soon after graduation because I still unsure of how much my investment would pay off. I can now say confidently that attending Rithm was the best career choice I have ever made, and it isn't close. Not only am I more happy with the work that I am doing, I also get paid more to do it. Elie and Joel made the experience as stress free as possible, though I still worried at times. In the end, they were right to try to calm us down and refocus our attention on the fundamentals. I think that Rithm puts a lot of effort into planning their lessons and making sure that the most important is presented front and center. They also understand that everyone is coming from a different background, so they encourage each student to focus on their respective strengths. This gave each member of my cohort a good shot at landing that first job be it at Google or some random company in the south bay that nobody has ever heard of. My point is that everyone's next step is different, but that doesn't stop them from maximizing your potential. I recently got my second job since graduating, and I has been great so far. I have found that the application process gets easier the more you do it (shocker, I know) because you are able to zoom out a bit and focus purely on the process. I have very high standards when it comes to my personal education, and my educational experience at Rithm exceeded my standards of excellence. The dedicated instructors at Rithm are extremely knowledgable and love teaching. If you are the kind of student that needs to be challenged above and beyond what most students need, the instructors at Rithm will more than happily provide extra learning resources to help feed your endless technical curiosities and ensure that you grow as much as possible throughout the program regardless of your skill level. My experience at Rithm was great. We got daily code reviews and were taught not just how to write code, but how to thoughtfully build robust applications. Week after week I was amazed at how much I was learning. The curriculum is very well thought out - and structured in a manner that encourages maximum absorption and retention. A huge plus for me was that Rithm school spends a considerable amount of time on backend technologies (as well as frontend). If you're interested in backend, then this is a great school. You won't just learn some massive framework and be great at only that framework - you'll learn the fundamental concepts that help you to understand how things are really working under the hood - and apply that knowledge to any tech stack you might encounter. Rithm gave me the confidence to be able to pick up any new technology and find a thrill in quickly learning and adapting to challenging environments. During our company projects section, our team had to learn an entirely new language and framework within a week, and make significant contributions to a very large codebase. This confidence extended to my job search where I applied far and wide. A month after graduating I received a fantastic job offer working as a backend engineer at a gaming studio. If you value attentiveness in your instructors, and an environment that will push you towards a path of significant technical growth - then Rithm School is a great choice. I would highly recommend trying out the private prep program before you decide to attend. You'll get to visit the school and get a lesson from each of the instructors to get a sense of their teaching styles. I wholeheartedly recommend Rithm to anyone who is seriously considering attending a bootcamp!

I remember clearly, during the very first day of orientation that there was such a need for illustrators and artists out in the world right now. This may be true, but clearly, despite working my ass off for more than five years, I didn't get a stable income job as an artist. I basically graduated and started working survival jobs, with small freelance gigs sprinkled in-between. And that is the unfortunate reality. Some of my peers got full-time jobs, but you know what? They had a higher success rate because they were all friends with each other, and I asked most people they got job recommendations because of their friends, but if you asked me about their portfolio? Let's just say, its all about networking and not hard work. I went onto campus my first year, and decided to save money by attending online campus. It is a WORLD of big difference. I can't believe I attended their online courses. They don't reduce pricing for online, but that really should have been the case. You don't have access to in-person workshops the way on campus students, and those are FREE because the AAU instructors are the ones doing it for their students. This blew my mind when I went back after 2 years. But all classes at the time of 2011-2012 was $2222 per class, per semester, irregardless of online or offline. Online instructors do a lot less work. Some of them didn't even know how to type. I had one teacher write everything IN ALL CAPS - ALL THE TIME, FOR EVERY SINGLE CRITIQUE. Every year the cost of classes would increase exponentially, but standards remained the same. I remember because money was a big deal. I was only able to get Cal Grant at the time for 4 years only, but I kept wondering what would happen on my fifth or even sixth year. Luckily, it didn't have to be 6 years, but I had to take filler classes in the summer even though they weren't high tier classes. They forced me to take a beginner computer class that was so unnecessary. I already knew so much about computers, and there was no way for me to transfer out of it. The digital art classes at the time were also poor. By the time I graduated, I knew I still had to learn more about painting better; I was getting great grades but really great grades and the level of skill that is needed in current times is not the same. For a school that you have to pay $40,000k a year, and still not getting a job is a shame. It's a sham. And for me to still take art classes to improve now, I mean, for me its a passion to get better and become good so I'll gladly want to pay someone to teach me new skills, but a realization dawned on me, there ARE SO MANY great artists out there right now teaching people digitally online. It's affordable and you don't have to sell your soul to Sallie Mae (AAU's favorite private loan lender), not only that but the works their students produce is amazing. Their career department is fake. During my "senior years" at school, I kept trying to schedule and attend workshops with the career department. I only met with them 1 time. I never got my resume or cover letters looked at, especially when I needed them when I was desperately looking for internship, and emailed them multiple times. Every time there was a scheduled meeting they would cancel. Nobody would answer my calls or email. They emphasized that our industry was more for entrepreneurs during the one workshop I attended, but didn't elaborate. All seniors must take a final course that delves into business basics for 1 semester only. In my opinion, all artists should consider that they won't be working for a corporate company such as Disney or Pixar. They need to really focus on teaching that aspect, and be blunt that many people will probably be freelancers as artists, or essentially become a starving artists. They tell you the rates and formulas but don't teach negotiation or people skills, project proposals, and important ways to get clients not be scared at looking at your rates. But they seem to strongly emphasize that people will move into some industry and apply to jobs through online web portals. Maria Brophy's free email newsletters teaches better shit than that class does, and probably would have gotten way more information if I just offered her a $100 for a simple phone call. My conclusion: forget this school, find a cheaper art school that gives you a basis. Get a degree if you must, but art in this day and age means = 1 part skill, 1 part sociability. Learn how to talk to people and present your art, and don't think that just having skill and talent will save you at the end of the day. Also, don't throw money at these for-profit art schools, give it to art instructors online who care.

Disclaimer: I am protected by The Leonard Law (CA Ed Code § 94367): Private postsecondary…read moreinstitutions in California cannot make or enforce rules subjecting students to discipline solely on the basis of speech that would be protected by the First Amendment or the California Constitution. This is my 4th semester. I have to say I have watched this school lose control of its curriculum and ALMOST LOSE its NAAB accreditation. This school online classes are seriously outdated. They do not have a full time staff where in my ending semesters where things are dense teachers prioritize their full time jobs over teaching. They do not instruct on advanced designing and MEP designing in the software they demand students use. Claiming "they are tools FOR US to learn how to use. We are in school paying $196,000, THEY SHOULD TEACH US. There are a handful of teachers that have made my time here worth it. They make it very hard for NON PRODOGIES to learn and be accepted. I have experienced over a dozen online reviews where it is disparaging and critical instead of elevating and lack of constructive feedback if the design is not to their standards. These reviews I found reflect a school that is taking advantage of tax incentives by being "inclusive". But thats for political reasons. They don't care if a student makes it or not. Iv watched hard working students breakdown and cry in reviews and even drop out because they just cant seem to appease the staff. Pro. inclusive admission process. Blah Cons: High tuition fees, often described as a "predatory" for-profit, with high dropout rates and high student debt. Reputation: The institution is frequently described as a "real estate empire" with extensive property ownership in San Francisco, which sometimes overshadows the educational focus. Experience: Some students report success if they are proactive with networking, while others report poor administrative communication.
