Sip & Paint? Sign me up! I'd only done it once before but loved it nonetheless…read more Honey Art Studio was hosting Juneteenth Paint Nights w/Soul Food. The event was catered by We Feast SF. The menu consisted of blackened salmon, red beans & rice, collard greens, yams, cornbread, macNcheese & nacho peach cobbler for dessert. The meal was absolutely delicious! I should've bought a plate to go! Everything was cooked & seasoned perfectly. I don't eat everyone's macNcheese & can count on one hand the number of times I've tried yams. Total waste of time and money…read more I booked this through Eventbrite a couple weeks ago, expecting a fun neon paint night with step-by-step instruction. none of that happened. Yujin crammed three separate events into one tiny, overly bright room, which completely ruined the vibe. The Eventbrite photo showed people painting in a dark neon-lit room. Instead, we were with two other "classes" in a setting that felt chaotic and thrown together. She gave zero instruction, even though it was clearly advertised. When we asked for help, she barely responded and gave off this weird gaslighting energy like we were bothering her. She even stepped out of the room multiple times while we were all sitting there confused. It felt like she wanted to collect money, hand out some supplies, and disappear. The only "perk" was free wine, which honestly felt like a tactic to get people drunk so they wouldn't notice how bad the experience was. It was obvious she has no interest in teaching or creating a good experience but rather just taking people's money. My husband and I would've had a better night painting at home with a canvas from Amazon (which, by the way, would've been bigger and better quality than the tiny ones she gave us). If you're reading this and thinking about booking--don't. Or do, and find out the hard way.

The had really nice glazes with hansen clear being my fav! Hickory gradually became more expensive over time, and they started charging members a firing fee for larger items. Understandable, especially given the current economy. I experienced a few issues with my pots being mishandled. On one occasion, a kiln overheated, causing a large batch of my pieces to bubble. Handful of my pots were damaged during firing because some items were placed in the kiln before they were fully dried.

Because of that, the class felt overwhelming at times. A lot of information is covered very quickly, not just technique, but also vocabulary, processes, and cleaning procedures. If you're a complete beginner, I strongly recommend watching a few wheel-throwing videos beforehand to feel more prepared. The class includes 25 pounds of clay, which is quite a lot, especially considering that most beginner pieces are around one pound each. I also can't stress enough how important it is to come in during open studio time. A 6-8 week course moves very fast, and extra practice is essential. Unfortunately, my experience was negatively impacted by the instructor. While he was clearly experienced, he lacked patience and often appeared visibly annoyed when I asked basic beginner questions or made mistakes. His tone sometimes felt condescending, which made me uncomfortable and discouraged me from asking for help. That's not the kind of environment you want when learning something completely new. I believe I would have enjoyed the class much more with a different instructor.

Succulence offers a good variety from glass terrariums, classic ceramic pots, to vertical gardens or mossy rocks in all different sizes. Some vessels are a flat rate whereas others are build by the minute (yes, you read this right). There were also many varieties of succulents and cacti to choose from. The staff will walk you through compatibility between plants and also compatibility with your work schedule/ability to care for your new plant babies. You will pay for each plant separately as well. In the planting activity, everything is provided for you - tools, gloves, a rainbow assortment of sand and rocks, moss, driftwood...whatever you can imagine! I love my final product! I also really enjoyed the activity overall BUT I also admit that it was a little pricier than what my friends and I originally thought (because we didn't know about the time rate). It's definitely something to keep in mind if you choose to build at Succulence.

Everything was going ok however, at some point Sirron asked if I had "conservative" ideals. I was taken aback a bit, but I answered honestly that I said that I am conservative, due to my experience being inside of Google and how I saw them become evil and how I'm trying to stop their agenda. He literally then goes into a tirade about how everyone who's conservative is evil, and how whites have ruined the planet and how I should move out of San Francisco because no one wants conservatives here, and how he will never work with anyone who is a conservative -- Wow. Really unprofessional attitude. And just to set the record clear, I didn't insult Sirron or anything like that. He just tore into me because he wanted to. He could have just been professional and declined the work offer, thus avoided sharing his intolerant, prejudicial and inflammatory remarks. But nope.
