Took classes here for several terms / years, and stopped going in Feb 2026. Most of the teachers are great (shoutout Jenny and Ryan), except the owner Adam. He repeatedly was rude, condescending, and belittling to me when I asked for help (umm... who's gonna tell him it's a school?!?) He also found it appropriate to make a racist joke to me (called my keffiyeh, a "terrorist rag"), and often made sexual jokes, in a room full of women. When I texted and emailed about my issues, Adam ignored me. No response (and have the receipts for it). I disputed my class charges to which he did not fight... but was majorly disappointed in my experiences overall. Would not go back nor recommend. read more

Amazing experience! Adam is the jeweler you want by your side for a unique DIY engagement or wedding band ring from start to finish. The process with him is engaging and fun; he is an excellent teacher with methods that are easy to follow. Adam's experience shines through guiding us beginners, helping to possibly avoid common pitfalls, and he is patient when you miss his queues. Adam approaches his work with joy and integrity, always remembering he's working with people, not simply a transaction. He is transparent about costs. And he is forthright based on his experience. Adam is more than fair and reasonable in all respects. For my wife's engagement ring, which was more complex for a beginner, Adam informed me it would take longer and require more of his hands-on assistance. The result was a stunning, unique piece that my wife and I absolutely love. I can't thank Adam enough for his support and expertise in making this happen! I wish there was a better-than 5-star option! This is a way to be a human and do business, well done Adam! read more

Adam was so great to work with! We talked to a number of other DIY wedding band workshops before settling on Scintillant Studio, and we are so happy with our decision. You really get to do the entire process from alloying metal to buffing the rings to an unbelievable shine. Adam is a knowledgeable craftsman, and is super excited to share his knowledge with people. We loved his enthusiasm and willingness to answer questions, and the dad jokes were a lot of fun, too. Take this class! You'll love the process, and you'll love the result too. read more

I make two rings at Adam's work shop for me and my partner. It was an amazing experience and worth every penny. I would recommend Adam to anyone who wants to do a ring making workshop. The price seems high but it worth every penny. And Adam doesn't do any up-charge for the material you buy from him(he just help you get them from the dealer) so you total cost might be lower than you can get at other places depending on what material you pick for the ring. From picking material, to the actual working shop, also resizing of the ring afterwards, Adam shows incredible skill and knowledge during the entire process, answers all random questions I had patiently, and also kept it super fun! I will keep my good words about him short but I can assure you all good comments before me are true. Don't look more if you are thinking about making some rings. read more

My partner and I did a wedding ring workshop with Adam today, and had a great experience! Adam is a great teacher: kind, patient, funny, and clearly had a ton of knowledge to share and a lot of passion for his craft. We were able to craft a piece that we love in the span of an afternoon, and had a great time doing it. I would absolutely recommend working with Adam! read more

My fiance and I had such an amazing time making our wedding rings with Adam! We had to reschedule our initial appointment as it landed right at the peak of the coronavirus shelter-in-place but Adam was super accommodating and worked with us to find a time where we would all be comfortable interacting. Adam was also so accommodating to our preferences while in studio - we opted to wear masks all day to be extra safe and Adam was totally cool! The actual class was a blast! Adam is a great teacher and a super entertaining person. My fiance and I both decided to make rings that were generally a bit more complicated than usual - I opted for a mokume gane ring and my fiance chose a curved ring that would fit around her engagement ring. Our rings came out perfectly! You can really tell that Adam cares deeply about the jewelry that he makes. When he and my fiance were finishing her ring, he was so detailed and meticulous about the curvature. To our untrained eyes the ring looked perfect, but Adam was so meticulous about getting the curvature just right, when it was finally done you could totally tell the difference! I am recommending this workshop to all of my friends. Not only is the price more than reasonable but the class was so fun and unique, it's an experience I will never forget. Thanks Adam! read more

Adam is very knowledgable, genuine and kind. He gave very clear instructions and made the whole class experience easy and pleasant for both of us. He was very focused on keeping the quality bar up while helping us get the design we wanted. We are very pleased and thankful for the result. Since we took the class during Covid, all windows were open at all times, and we were the only students in the room. All of us made sure to wear masks at all times. Highly recommended for anyone looking to create their own rings under professional supervision. :] read more

My partner and I did Adam's wedding band workshop, and I can't recommend the experience highly enough. We wanted to turn the exchange of rings into a more personal, shared experience that better reflected our relationship, and Adam was an incredible guide through that process. He helped us choose materials and designs while allowing us to reflect our own style, provided a super engaging / hands-on experience building our rings (from casting the alloyed metals to shaping and polishing), and provided hilarious jokes / puns throughout. The rings look flawless as well - my partners concern about having rings that scream "DIY" quickly put to rest (though Adam did need to save the day on a few occasions). If you're considering this workshop, do it!!! I'm so glad we were able to turn our wedding bands into this memorable, shared experience. Thanks Adam! read more

Let me save you time reading through my entire review and say 1000/10 would recommend. My partner and I did Adam's wedding band workshop and it was amazing. Our friends did this workshop as well and after hearing about their experience, we know we needed to do it. We wanted our wedding bands to be meaningful to us- I made my partner's ring and he made mine. Adam was very patient, funny, and knowledgeable and the whole day was just awesome. He looked at us and knew the exact color the rings should be and what size we were! The rings turned out so beautiful- we can't wait to wear them!! Cannot recommend this experience more highly- if you're on the fence you should definitely do it. Thanks Adam! read more

If we could give Adam 6 stars we would! We attended the ring-making workshop to make my fiancé's wedding band. We had contacted Adam ahead of time to see if we could use a family heirloom gold bracelet to make the ring, and Adam was kind enough to melt down the bracelet ahead of time for us to use. We loved how passionate Adam is about his business and how much he shared with us. With every step of the process, he educated us on why we were doing what we were doing instead of just taking us through the motions which was so insightful and greatly appreciated. Additionally, because Adam taught us so much we were able to essentially make the entire ring ourselves, with Adam stepping in only a couple times to make minor tweaks. Adam has a great sense of humor and made us feel welcome from the very beginning. He kept us laughing the entire time and the session truly flew by! He took us to lunch at a nearby Mexican restaurant and essentially treated us like old friends. I would absolutely recommend Adam and Scintillant Studio a hundred times over to anyone interested in his workshops or jewelry. We had some gold left over from today and we will definitely be coming back to Adam to use it!! read more

Adam helped us make our wedding bands and they turned out BEAUTIFULLY! We had such a fun day with him and it is definitely a day that we will cherish forever. We asked around in the families for any family heirlooms folks wanted to contribute. Adam helped us refine the gold into two nuggets - one for the my side and one for his side. We poured them into an ingot, rolled out the metal, annealed it, shaped it, joined it, and polished it. Adam was quite accommodating of our (admittedly odd) request and worked with us to make it happen. Most of the ring workshops he does use regular purchased gold. Adam has refined (lol!) his workshops down to a tee - he explained that he's done over 700 of them. We felt very hands-on through the process, but he knew exactly how to explain what to do next so that we'd be able to do it with no prior knowledge. We're very happy with the result! read more

Book your appointment. Do it now. My fiance/wife (depending what time you're reading this review) had the idea a couple years ago to make our own wedding bands together. To me it seemed like an amazing idea. San Francisco is where we took our first road trip together when we started dating, so we searched the area and found Adam on Yelp and I kept him bookmarked. When covid loosened up a bit, we booked our appointment and made our way there. It was only on our way there when the fear of it all sunk in. Up to 8 hours with a random guy? What if he's not personable? What if the place is in a weird part of town? What if I screw up her ring? How do I even know if this is premium quality metal? What size/style do I even want? What if there is a reason why people don't usually do this?! The reason why more people don't make their own wedding rings is simply because there is only one Adam Clark in the world. I cannot sing Adam's praises loudly enough. I couldn't have planned a more perfect experience. Adam was so incredibly welcoming, genuine, full of amazing stories, INCREDIBLY experienced, and of course, absolutely hilarious. Prepare for puns. Maybe you should prepare some of your own too. Do whatever you need to do to get to SF and see him, because no other city is going to have an Adam Clark. To answer some of the questions I posed earlier: It's in a really cool part of town. Just up the street is some awesome dining and shops. It sort of reminded me of Abbot Kinney if you're from LA like me. No, there is literally no chance Adam will let you screw anything up. But if you're worried this will be an impersonal machine based cut-and-paste process, do not be. You quite literally will be cutting, shaping, soldering, sanding, polishing, everything. Yes, I guarantee your metal will be better than anything Jared sells. In regards to style, bring as much or as little inspiration as you want. We both knew we wanted simple bands, but Adam gave us advice on the variances of flat vs. rounded vs. flat w/ rounded edges, and he helped us decide on the perfect width. In regards to sizing, don't even bother preparing anything. Adam is going to size you the right way. Anyways, this is the shortest I could make this review without doing Adam an injustice. If you're reading this Adam, thank you so so so much again for everything. P.S. we worked with platinum, and it was pretty epic. read more

If you and your partner are looking for a place to make your own rings while learning random facts, being showered with Dad jokes, and getting a hand spa treatment (with no extra cost!), Adam is yo man! Adam has been super patient with us from the start in scheduling an appointment that worked for everyone. We had a unique request of melting our mother's ring down and recasting it as part of ours. Although (as we soon learned from Adam) this threw off the proportions of the final metal composition and made the entire annealing process more difficult, Adam cared about making our ideal rings become reality and worked with our request. The class was very interactive and was straight up FIRE. Adam coached us through the entire process and made us feel like metalsmith experts by the end of the 8-hour session. Our rings turned out beautifully and even better than how we imagined! We can't recommend Adam enough, on a scale of 0 to 10, he's an 11. read more

Scintillant Studio is a great place to learn the intricate art of metalsmithing. Generally focussed on jewelry construction, you can learn the building blocks to metal art and the aesthetics of sculptural adornment. I had the fortune to take the beginning class from Scintillant's owner, and master metalsmith, Adam Clark. This is the perfect format for adult learners...at your own pace, and focussed on what YOU want to learn. There are many routes one can take with metal art, and Adam and staff are eager to cultivate the aspects of the medium that turn you on. The studio environment is also great to learn from those who are currently working as commercial artists. They offer small group classes for all ability levels. The classes cost a little bit, but when you think of the value of the material covered in that cost, it isn't bad at all. Materials for working in this medium can be pricey, especially with the recent influx of gold and silver prices in the last few years. The studio has great equipment, and keeps lots of gems and precious metals on hand for you to purchase for special projects (at very reasonable prices). Check it out! They have a great new location in the Mission, with lots of extra work space. read more

Adam is simply the best! From the day I met him to talk about designs I knew it was going to be an unforgettable experience. Adam is so knowledgable and he is an amazing teacher with a great sense of humor! The workshop was absolutely a blast and it was amazing to hear all the stories about the stones, the metal, the tools.. What impressed me a lot too is that Adam was able to finish my sentences when I had a hard time explaining what kind of ring I wanted. He asked me a little bit about my daily routine and knew exactly what I needed! Adam is very honest about pricing and charges you only when he is sure you are happy with the result. I now have a very unique ring that I got to create with my husband. I highly recommend this workshop! Thank you SO much Adam! read more

My fiance and I just made our wedding rings with Adam Clark and we had the best time ever. He's hilarious and entertained us throughout the entire day. We walked out with two handmade rings that Adam helped us make for each other. We also learned a ton about working with precious metals and making jewelry. We are super pleased with our rings and now we have something meaningful that we made for each other. Working with Adam to make our wedding bands was an absolute JOY. He's incredible at what he does -- such a talented artist / jewelry maker / metalsmith, and also an amazing teacher who makes something that could be super scary (screwing up your wedding bands is not a good thought) fun, approachable and a source of immense satisfaction and pride. Adam is hilarious, crazy knowledgeable and just plain great to spend time with, which is important when you're doing an all-day workshop to commemorate one of the most important moments of your life. Adam cares a lot about craft, making sure you get what you want for your rings, and even had us come back after our workshop to spend 45 minutes etching our rings for no extra cost. Thank you, Adam! Can't recommend working with him highly enough for your jewelry-making needs! read more

I've been looking for a jewelry metal-smithing educational outlet since arriving in the bay area a few years ago. I am surprised that it took this long to find one, but I'm glad that I have found Scintillant Studios. Firstly, the studio isn't tucked away in a mass-transit-starved location in The City, which really helps with fitting into my post-work commute route. The instruction is excellent, the class schedules are flexible and the studio is well-equipped. The class is structured to let students work at their own pace and the instructors are willing to hold your hand when you need it and they leave you alone when you want it. If you're interested in a technique, ask an instructor and you'll get an answer; this may sound like a "duh" but I was surprised at how some other place wanted to keep all students at an identical pace despite there being different levels of experience of the students. I have caught the bug and I want to do more and I'll be doing it at Scintillant (that sounded kinda weird, but you know what I mean). I love it. read more

Only one review so far?! I'm shocked. Scintillant Studio has won me over and I have only attended my second class. The atmosphere is so laid back (complete with vino & snacks), the instruction is thorough and the classes are small (6-ish) people. Also, located just of the BART in the heart of the Mission, the classes are easily accessible. Adam Clark is a fun person to learn from and seems to be an endless supply of information. This studio of his is brimming with tons of fun tools to mold your metal in to submission. read more

A great place! My fiancé and I made our wedding bands there last November, and it was a wonderful experience. Adam Clark, our instructor/coach/guide for the day was fun and kind and definitely knew how to make me feel like I could do everything myself, even though I had never made jewelry before and was a bit overwhelmed at times. Now we have two amazing, unique rings that will be part of our history forever, and also the memory of a truly special day working in the workshop. This is the first time I've written a Yelp review, if that says anything about how stand-out this experience was... My partner and I had a great time making our rings with Adam, and are having a hard time waiting until the wedding to start wearing them! Between the two of us, we have a lot of experience with different kinds of thing-making, but this was something totally new for both of us, and really fun to learn together. Adam guided us smoothly through the whole process, from choosing reasonable designs for our rings to making sure they had a perfect finish we were happy with. He front-loaded just the right amount of information about what we would be doing before each step so that we'd understand what we were about to do and why, and have confidence that we'd be able to do it well. He made it so that we really were doing almost all of it ourselves, while always being ready to step in if something needed more professional fine-tuning. Adam is not only a great metalworker and teacher, but just generally fun to hang out with; normally I would find it exhausting to spend an entire day making conversation with a stranger, but his gregariousness, abundance of stories, and sense of humor made it easy and enjoyable. Honestly, before this, I was kind of ambivalent about wedding rings in general, but I'm so glad that we made them and that we'll have them as a reminder of such a great experience together. Plus they came out really pretty! read more

Adam is amazingly smart and patient and guided me through making *both* our wedding rings in a single day (husband is blind). It's been almost a year since my wife (then fiance) and I were at the Scintilant Studio making our wedding rings, but I still think about the experience so much that I finally decided to write a review. Adam was our teacher (he's also the owner) and he was just plain awesome. We came in at 8 or 9 am and he proudly brewed all of us some cappuccinos using his Italian made espresso machine. We then promptly started our workshop by melting my wife's grandparent's wedding rings down and adding some gold from a Krugerrand (a South African coin) to bring up the gold content. This was actually super cool because instead of just adding some scrap gold that he had around, Adam busted out this shiny new South African coin and just clipped a piece of it off. How cool is that? We spent the next 8 or 9 hours honing and crafting our rings until they were absolutely perfect. And Adam really would have it no other way. He is so into his craft and is so knowledgeable it truly is amazing & inspiring. He really takes pride in his craft and it shows. Throughout the day he would drop jewelry making knowledge & history as well as just random interesting stories and facts that really made our day and made us feel connected to him. At lunch time we went down the street and got some delicious sandwiches and hung out with Adam on the back porch just shooting the breeze. The whole day just felt like we were hanging out and it allowed us to relax and pour our love into each other's rings. I would very highly recommend anyone interested in making jewelry to come by Scintilant and specifically to work with Adam. We had an amazing experience and I don't doubt for a second that others will too. read more

My fiance and I just made our rings though their Wedding Ring Workshop. Neither one of us had had any metal work experience, and although excited, we were a little nervous about the experience. We shouldn't have been. Adam Clark is as wonderful a teacher as a person could ask for. Not only did we learn a lot and have absolutely beautiful wedding bands, we had an incredible day doing it! I completely recommend Adam as a teacher and Scintillant Studio as a school so much that both my Fiance and I can't wait to take more classes with him. This review is long overdue, we had our wedding bands made with Adam more than a year ago. However, we want to make sure to write a review for him to express our appreciation. The whole process took about 8-9 hours in total, and Adam was very very patient guiding us through all the steps with explanations as how things should work and what to expect. (We had to step out of his workshop during noon time for a couple of hours, which essentially made our appointment with him go until almost 9 PM but he was a very good sport about it.) It'd be a very long review if I go through all the steps but the main things I'd like to mention are: fun, friendly, informative, and memorable, you can expect them all. Just a small note for those who are planning to bring in your own material: sanding took away half of the weight of our rings, normal rate seems to be ~25%, (something to keep in mind). However, we really love the end product, our hand-made wedding bands, a truly amazing kind of experience. read more

We went to make our wedding bands here last month with Adam. It was an amazing day - Adam is a great patient teacher and all designs are possible. Adam is a true jeweler and very inspirational to work with. The whole day was very laid back and relaxing but also really productive. His studio is fantastic - part science lab, part school and part smithy/forge. Under Adams expert guidance we really made 2x rings from scratch through every step. Our design is quite organic and therefore unique. The price point is also great - cheaper than many factory produced mall jewellers. It is clear that Adam runs the ring-making out of genuine interest in his highly skilled craft and it really shows. We will definitely go back to make something else in the future. We got exactly the rings we wanted and learned so much about jewelry making that it would be hard to buy anything "premade" again. Could not recommend it more highly - thanks Adam for an amazing day and a pair of perfect rings! read more
