The had really nice glazes with hansen clear being my fav! Hickory gradually became more expensive over time, and they started charging members a firing fee for larger items. Understandable, especially given the current economy. I experienced a few issues with my pots being mishandled. On one occasion, a kiln overheated, causing a large batch of my pieces to bubble. Handful of my pots were damaged during firing because some items were placed in the kiln before they were fully dried.

Because of that, the class felt overwhelming at times. A lot of information is covered very quickly, not just technique, but also vocabulary, processes, and cleaning procedures. If you're a complete beginner, I strongly recommend watching a few wheel-throwing videos beforehand to feel more prepared. The class includes 25 pounds of clay, which is quite a lot, especially considering that most beginner pieces are around one pound each. I also can't stress enough how important it is to come in during open studio time. A 6-8 week course moves very fast, and extra practice is essential. Unfortunately, my experience was negatively impacted by the instructor. While he was clearly experienced, he lacked patience and often appeared visibly annoyed when I asked basic beginner questions or made mistakes. His tone sometimes felt condescending, which made me uncomfortable and discouraged me from asking for help. That's not the kind of environment you want when learning something completely new. I believe I would have enjoyed the class much more with a different instructor.

i heard about oko designs on instagram and have been wanting to try stained glass. angie, the…read moreowner, is very knowledgeable and great at teaching. when i went for the daisy workshop, there were other workshops happening concurrently so angie was going around teaching essentially the same skills but for different final products (daisy or photobooth). i wish i got a bit more instructor supervision as there were about 20-30 people that day, but i'm still very happy i got to try stained glass and make a piece! i highly recommend checking out oko designs if you're wanting to dabble in stained glass. a workshop is a perfect afternoon activity with friends or even for a date!

Redemption! When I…read morewas in high school, I wanted to make a rat in a suit in my art class. I remember I had made a really great rat head. And I made a really great suit. But when I went to attach the rat head to the body, both had dried out. I only had a couple of days until the project was due, so instead I made a rabbit in a dress. But I was really upset. I was 16 years old, and I was in a phase in my life when I hated convention. So, I wanted to make a rat in a suit to signify the fact that I felt like everyone around me was just a rat in a suit. Instead, I just became super depressed and thought that I sucked and everything sucks. And why me. And I hate the world. And god, I'm such a loser. And... UGH. To be a teenager. Anyhow, fast forward very very many years (I won't tell you how many :P) ...Now that I am a rat in a suit (kinda...)... I wanted redemption for my perceived failure all of those years ago. I saw the class on Groupon and just had to take it. Natasha is awesome. She's a no nonsense Russian artist with a cheeky sense of humor. Clay is her life. She bleeds clay. It comes out of her body and it's almost seemingly like she waves her hands a little and something beautiful magically comes out of her hands and into the world. She helps you take your ideas and shows you you how you can put it together and gives you ideas on how to make it better. Natasha is incredibly attentive and listens to each student to make sure your project turns out beautiful. If only my high school art teacher was just as attentive maybe my rat head and suit body wouldn't had dried out.... She gave me a B- for my rabbit in a dress because it ended up being a week late. Perhaps that's my next redemption project!

The fear just melted away as she guided the class with such confidence and encouragement. Waiting to see how my first pieces turn out. Expected to watch once and work on it on your own while the instructor makes their own items. Luckily my friends and I did research before the class and had a general idea on how to make a shape. Normal wait time to pick up pottery is 4-6 weeks. We waited 4 weeks to get ours. Steven was very friendly for pottery pick up time changes. 100% make a game plan before coming to class because time is limited and instruction is limited. Overall not bad

For a long time, I've made art but struggled with feeling like what I was doing was really creative. Michael, the owner and instructor at the studio, has transformed the way I think about the creative process through the avenue of figure drawing. His classes are the most meaningful part of my week. If you're looking for an instructional class focused on technique for drawing more accurately, this may not be the right place for you. Instead, the classes offer a new connected way of living--engaged with beauty both around you and internal to you. So much of the class is about unlearning not just how you draw but also how you value the creative process. It is the most challenging class I've ever taken and there's no amount of brute force I can apply to get it other than trusting the process and the instructor. Nonetheless, as frustrating as it is, there's nothing else I do that is more rewarding. It takes a lot of effort to strip away your aesthetic value system to get at the core of what you find beautiful, but if the result is a more meaningful existence, then that investment is priceless. Some practical aspects of the instructional sessions. Michael strives to provide only the best models to inspire you not to capture their poses but to feel something in yourself. The medium is stick charcoal and newsprint is available cheaply at the studio. The class is a lengthy commitment of 20 weeks of three-hour sessions but is highly structured and builds on successive lessons. Michael also allows you to make-up classes. Although there is a high upfront cost, for the hours of instruction and model time spread out over the weeks, it's a steal.

Everything was going ok however, at some point Sirron asked if I had "conservative" ideals. I was taken aback a bit, but I answered honestly that I said that I am conservative, due to my experience being inside of Google and how I saw them become evil and how I'm trying to stop their agenda. He literally then goes into a tirade about how everyone who's conservative is evil, and how whites have ruined the planet and how I should move out of San Francisco because no one wants conservatives here, and how he will never work with anyone who is a conservative -- Wow. Really unprofessional attitude. And just to set the record clear, I didn't insult Sirron or anything like that. He just tore into me because he wanted to. He could have just been professional and declined the work offer, thus avoided sharing his intolerant, prejudicial and inflammatory remarks. But nope. I really wish I had recorded the conversation somehow because this sort of encounter would have gone viral on social media. Seriously, it was that bad. Other's be warned!

The characters are very fun - big blue bears, fat cats, and living cityscapes all in vibrant colors. 2010 is going to be Sirron's year. We stopped into Spark Creativity this afternoon. My daughter had a great time! Gisele was wonderful…read morewith her. My intention was to stick around, since it was our first time. But after twenty minutes or so, knowing my daughter was having fun and really into her art project, I left to grab a bite. When I returned they were wrapping up, and she talked about how much fun she had all the way home. We will be going back next week. A little learning and a lot of fun! Perfect!
