Loved the mosaic class I took the other week! Came with two of my friends and had the best time. The space at Workshop is perfect - love all the snake plants they had going on and made it even better that I could bring a nice crisp honey cider into class with me! The instructor Elena was great - really helpful instruction and jumped in to help whenever you needed it! Our pieces came out perfectly and we are so excited to hang them up in our apartment! Will definitely be back in the future for another class at Workshop or another mosaic class! read more

Took a polymer clay class on Tuesday from 7-9:30 with Sophie! She was very knowledgable and kindly patient, especially when we needed help fixing some of our pieces. The class itself was fun! We basically just messed around with clay for the 1.5 hours, layering cut outs and playing with texture. Baking took 30 minutes, and then assembly another 30. There were tons of colors, shapes, and tools to try out. There was also a birthday party there, so if you're interested in an event, this seems like a good place. Sophie let us know that we're allowed to get drinks / snacks from next door, then bring it back to eat in the lobby area by the window. The workshop seems like a lovely community space. Seems like they have events every month - Nov they'll have a free zine workshop and in December they'll sell mini wreaths. There's tons of other artsy things in there. My one suggestion for the class - it would have been lovely if there had been more pliers for assembly. I think that the shortage was the main bottleneck. The earrings look simple to put together, but because we were new and the pieces seem so fragile, it took us quite a bit of time. read more

Came here for a class and was the first time stopping in. It's a great place and offers a variety of classes. It's clean and neat inside. Instructor was friendly, knowledgeable, organized. Price point felt reasonable as everything needed for the class was supplied and time frame was 3 hours tho most finished before then. Classes are small so it doesn't feel overwhelming and could get enough guidance through the class to not be too anxious with the project. We booked a candle making session for a team of 19. It was so fun and relaxing, everyone had so much fun getting creative with the scents & color mixing! We were able to make 2 candles each and depending on how you want to style it some coworkers did an ombré effect or mixed scents & added floral toppings that were available. Last year we did a woodworking workshop & it was a bit too difficult/long so I was worried a few of us would not like this event but it was so easy it was relaxing and everyone was able to get in their zone. It was really nice to see the work team bring their creative sides out! Also, we made memories that we'll never forget. This place is awesome. Me and a bestie went this evening for the "Beginner's Watercolor: Night Sky, Galaxy, And Deep Space" class. Neither of us had much experience with watercolors, but the instructor, Becca, gave a quick introduction to color theory and demo of the basic techniques before turning us loose to begin creating our own. It was super fun experimenting with different color combos and methods for adding stars and sparkles. Two hours flew by fast, and the outcomes were beautiful. Great way to spend an evening with a good friend or on your own. I'll be back for sure! read more

This is one of my favorite spots in SF. I have been here a lot, including for first Friday (haven't been in 2023 yet because somehow I'm always traveling on the first), water marbling, leather making (wallets), and watercolor for beginning: Galaxy and night sky paint night (for my birthday). The last 3 were literally once a week for 3 weeks in a row. The formal classes are 2 hours, with about 45-60 min teaching followed by an hour of making our craft. I will say I wish we had more than an hour (or a bit shorter teaching). Regardless, all the instructors are absolutely amazing and I'm going to keep coming back read more

I've had the opportunity to work with WorkshopSF numerous times this past year. My company invited them for several different craft workshops throughout the year, and each one has been a HUGE hit! They are easy to correspond with and all the craft teachers/workshop leaders who arrive are friendly, knowledgeable, and so happy to be there. Our employees get so excited whenever Workshop SF comes. We've done macrame, wreaths, candles, and plants - just to name a few! I've never actually been to the classroom or building itself so all my experience has been with them coming onsite. But they are clear communicators, are great with the employees, and in my opinion are worth every penny. I especially love Hayley (hope i spelled that right). She always gives me the biggest hug and despite her running around all of San Francisco during the holiday season, she always stops to say hello and brings ALL. THE. Class: All-Day Sewing Bootcamp for Beginners I signed up for the waitlist and was so excited when a spot opened up. Even though it was a drive for me, it was more than worth it. I had so much fun, and learned WAY more than I would have via YouTube in the same amount of time. Hayley was extremely helpful, fun, and had so many tips and tricks for us. It was crazy how quickly we were working through projects by the end of class because of how much we learned from Hayley. Cute concept but when I heard how much it cost... I was a bit shocked! I got invited to a team bonding event here. We got to build a plant on a wood plank. We didn't get to pick the plant so I was stuck with a fern. I also felt super rushed when I was building my project. I didn't have super clear direction and was a bit disappointed on how my project came out. It isn't tilted upward like the instructor's. I like that I was able to pick a wood plank, but I wish we had time to stain it before working on the plant project. It would be more aesthetically pleasing to hang up in our homes. It would look more professional rather than a DIY rookie project. Now I have a greater respect for these items that I see at Anthropologie. I would gladly pay the price because at least their product is beautiful. Not so sure about my project?!? Perhaps I have to come back for another class, but if it costs more than me buying the project made already then I may not. read more

The teacher really enjoyed her trade and made class FUN. The people that attend the workshop are great also. I did not think I would talk to anyone but I did. Lorena was such a great and entertaining teacher & host. She truly made the experience amazing. We had 10 people, we brought our own wine to sip on, and made beautiful bouquets and arrangements in 2 hours. My flowers are still glowing. The space itself is so artsy/trendy & cool. Came here for a kokedama workshop. Upon entrance, the friendly instructor said that since the class was 21+, we could feel free to grab drinks at the store across from the workshop if was wanted . The vibes were clearly laid back and the whole crowd was friendly. We each created one small and one large kokedama, with an array of plants to choose from. The instructor gave clear instructions and offered plenty of help and guidance, as well as after care tips. I was pretty excited to take home my end product. I recently attended the legendary Beer Bootcamp, taught by Chris Cohen. And just when I thought I couldn't appreciate beer any more than I already do! The class involved learning about and sampling 12 different beers from around the world, though I think "sampling" is a huge understatement. Chris is insanely knowledgeable in everything there is to know about beer, from its history to its subtleties. I was surprised to discover that my favorite beer of the evening was NOT the IPA but instead the Hoegaarden Belgian Wit. All of the excitement over learning made three hours go by very fast. One piece of feedback that I have is that Chris is clearly qualified to teach this course but is also not much of a public speaker... which is totally fine because he's still personable, but allow me to suggest something like Toastmasters to take his audience engagement skills to the next level. I found it difficult to get through the first 15-20 minutes of Chris getting warmed up, but he found his rhythm eventually. Overall I had such a great time and would highly recommend this workshop to my fellow beer enthusiasts! read more

My friend Brenda and I have taken 3 classes at Workshop together, and we always have a blast! After the card screening class, we took Sewing 101 and learned how to set up a sewing machine to sew straight lines with varying designs, sewed beer koozies (can covers) and a sock doll - so fun and so cool! I don't have a sewing machine of my own just yet, but when I do at least I'll know the basics of how to use it, set it up, etc. One day, one daaaaay! And then we took the Pie in a Jar class this past Saturday - what a hoot! We had so much fun molding the dough into cool Mason jars with lids. They had 3 fillings ready for us (pecan, apple and strawberry/rhubarb). You fit crusts over the jars or add a crumble crust, put the lids back on, pack them up, put them in your fridge or freezer and bake them for an hour at 350 F at will. I can't wait to bake them up! Reason for visit: Soy candle workshop Visit date: June 22, 2016 First time? To the space, yes. The space itself easily seats 10-15 for a workshop. It can get a little cozy, but it works. The space is BYO food and beverage, but there are also beers for sale (pay by honor system). Workshop has a whole bunch of classes to choose from. Signing up for class is easy; getting to the right location can be tricky - make sure to check the class description for which location. Tonight I took the soy candle making class with Joy of Lighten Up Shoppe. Joy is awesome! She gets five stars! I learned way more than I thought I would about candle making and why you would use soy over other candle bases. We started with a lesson and then had a step by step tutorial. I feel confident that I could replicate and make my own candles at home if I wanted to. The process is actually very simple, as Joy explained at the beginning of class. We made two candles each and got to be very creative with scent combinations, adding dried florals and creating labels for our candles. Joy provided all the supplies and shared her tips and techniques. She was super helpful when we had questions and very accommodating even when some of the students seemed to be taking advantage of supplies. Note to students: don't try to use more supplies than you are suppose to! It's just weird. I have taken two other classes with Workshop SF at offsite locations. I prefer these much more because they generally have better bathrooms. read more

Decided to do an art class with friends for my birthday celebration, and among all places I contacted. Harley at Workshop SF responded the fastest. Some studio never called back. They had such a vast selection of classes and I chose water marbling, which was creative and easy. All of us had a blast. I discovered this place via Craig's List. They were selling a couch that I think was too big for their space - and I was looking for a couch. I wasn't interested in theirs, but sitting right next to the couch in the CL photo was their beer vending machine. Holy crikey. Any place that has a beer vending machine has already won my heart. Besides the fact that I then rapidly needed to find my own Vendolator (I believe theirs is this version: http://www.pinballrebel.com/game/cola/vendo/vendo_63/vendo_63.htm), I knew I had to try some kinda something here. Luckily, our team at work was looking for a team-building activity so I put in my suggestion to check out the offerings at Workshop. And yay! We ended up coming for a screenprinting session. The lovely lady (names=I suck at remembering them) walked us through instructions and then we went to town. For $100, you acquire a new skill that will open up your horizons and save you hundreds of dollars down the road. All while eating delicious homemade dessert and drinking PBR, say whaaat! I recently took an all day sewing boot camp course here and wow, what a blast. I learned so much and had so much practice. It opened up a whole new world of crafting possibilities. We each made a tote bag, a drawstring bag, a hidden zipper bag, and a buttoned folded bag. I went on to tailor all my clothes: shirts, jeans, skirts, etc, and I'm in the process of making my own flowy skirts! Our instructor Haley was super knowledgeable and down to earth. She gave each student a lot of attention and praises. She asked what we are there for and made sure to include the specific skills tailored to your needs in the course. She also sent us a PDF detailing the entire course in case you forget. Tips: 1. Pack your own lunch because there isn't enough time to actually order and eat your food. 2. One of my new year's resolutions was to create and invest more in myself! I did so a few weeks ago by attending a Weaving/Roving class at WorkshopSF, and it was so much fun! I wasn't sure if it would be worth the $125+fees, but for 5 hours and all materials provided, I decided to just bite the bullet, and I don't regret it one bit! I came out with a pretty great wall hanging -- the kind you see all over Instagram/Pinterest (kind of similar to macrame). You wouldn't even know that a first timer, never-touched-a-loom-in-her-life like me, made it! (Also, came to learn that yarn is EXPENSIVE so I can see why the class is priced the way it is.) The space is really cool and decorated to get your creative juices going. I don't think anyone came out with a "bad" end product. The instructor, Keyaira, was funny, informative, and patient. I do wish the class size could've been a little smaller so that each person could get more dedicated attention and table space, but it was still a great experience overall. I would definitely recommend taking this class! A bonus is that you're allowed to take the loom (worth ~$30) home with you for future projects! read more

I now feel confident to try and make something a little bit more advanced, and I will definitely be making those little fixes that I was too scared to do before. Went to the Sewing Bootcamp on Last Saturday and it was awesome! (: I've always wanted to learn how to sew and I've watched YouTube videos on it but it's not the same when you don't have a machine to practice with. And I didn't want to invest in one without knowing at least the basics. Haley was so cool and chill! She's been sewing since she was super little, so I trusted her teachings. I thought it'd be a huge class, but it was super intimate, the maximum was only 10 people. The room was cool, very artsy, very SF. We learned the basics of the sewing machine, made a full sized tote with a pocket, a little zippered bag, a buttoned bag, and a drawstring bag. We applied many different techniques in one class! It was so worth the money! I was happy to learn that their classes support the local small business owners! One of the teachers was able to quit her other job to teach her pursued passion and manage her small business full time! Kelly is such a sweetheart and breathes so much life and passion into this place - that her energy and enthusiasm can't help but find it's way into all of the hands-on crafts and art - that comes out of this place. We did a fun group get-together here tonight and Kelly was extremely thorough and bubbly - when going over all of the instructions for screen printing. She then let us find our own way around the place. Using beer-koozies, old scrap paper, and T-shirts - we screen-printed it all, while tunes belted out from an Ipod - as the slowly setting sun - kept on peeking through the well - lit place. The Workshop is one of those incredible local resources that everyone should stay on top of. They are continually offering wonderful classes and hands-on activities - in their warm and inviting space. I came with some friends to take screen printing classes and we had such a blast. We ordered in some food and hung out for hours on end. Kelly, our instructor, was super helpful and patient with us. We were pretty loud and rowdy and she didn't mind at all! In fact, she jumped right in with us and had (hopefully) just as much fun as we did. Taking the Craft Hacking 101: Agate & Geode Jewelry class was certainly one of the crown jewels of my SF vacation. We didn't have to bring anything 'cept ourselves which upped the convenience factor. It ended up being a small class (7 students) which worked out well since we all got personal attention/help if we needed it. Katy was a very patient and sweet teacher who handled bloopers with aplomb and was chock full of jewelry and stone knowledge. My wire-wrapped pendants and golden rings look ultra-rad! Prepare yourself for compliments. Workshop has such varied offerings that there's bound to be something that grabs your attention. If I lived in SF, I could see taking heaps of classes monthly. I'm so happy that I found this place!! Took the heavy metal aerobics last Sunday and I absolutely loved it! The instructor, Donelle, is so friendly and upbeat and the class is so fun! The music ranges from metallica to iron maiden...the movements are a combination of cardio and yoga movements (we also got to use dumbbells made from sand filled-PBR cans! how metal is that!?) All you need to do is go to their website and reserve for a spot by paying the $10 fee with paypal (they do have a 48-hour full refund cancellation policy) The environment is so chill and spacious for dancing. My body do sore the next day which is a positive sign that my hour and $10 were well-spent! I'd definitely spread my word and come back again. read more

I attended my first course last night, after not having touched a sewing machine in 20+ years. Our instructor was patient and went through the steps several times. 3 hours flew by, and the next thing I knew, I had made a sock puppet and beer koozie that actually came out halfway decent. We listened to LCD Soundsystem and Lou Reed in the background, got to drink PBR, and I had fun while learning this important skill.
