Did an amazing job on relatively short notice. We put on a 200 person event and had so many calls, changes, requests, up until they very last minute. The Got Light team did everything they could to make it work the way we wanted to. They really transformed the space into exactly what we wanted within our budget. Kim and team were easy to work with. Also, they staffed extremely well. Instead of just a couple AV techs on site, they had about 6 or 7 to help us make sure things ran smoothly. I have done much larger scale events (800-1,000 people) with much bigger budgets, and other AV companies provided much less support than what Got Light provided for an event our scale. read more

Overall, our wedding lighting was just "okay". We envisioned a minimalist enchanted forest where our uplighting would help create the mood. We asked for auburn outer lighting on the walls with a ripple effect of water on our dance floor. This company gave us $500 refund, but it didn't matter to us since our wedding day has passed.... I was pretty disappointed with this company and their deliverance. Missed the mark, but there customer service is overall nice. Here is my letter to Kristina: Kristina, I just received the refund. Thank you for that. In response to your previous email: 1) We were well aware that the dance floor was dark, but it was communicated to us that we could still make it happen. The ripples looked nothing like water, just a couple of specks of light... even when it got a little darker. I think the blue Smurf issue that we tried to prevent wasn't even close to being an issue. 2). Rafael should have already dimmed the room to our vision of what we first discussed, and should we have needed to brighten the room, Barbara could've showed us. The fact that we were trying to keep costs down came at a huge loss for us (unfortunately), because we were not informed that we would be missing certain components as well as main personnel for the setup/adjustments for the lights. She was our wedding coordinator, but has no background in lighting nor did she have a picture of what we envisioned, so this was not her responsibility. 3) We chose to go with Got-Light because of the immense colors that showed through in other events that were showcased online, none of which were exhibited at our wedding reception. If we knew the lighting would look like simple lighting, we could've gone without. It's unfortunate to have to say this, but we should have just gone with the simple uplights from the venue. To put things into perspective, the prom or dance event that went on the day that Ashleigh came to Villa Ragusa was much more efficient in terms of lighting and ambiance than we had for something that was paid for. And to think, we were even getting recommendations to have stage lighting because of fears that it would be "too dark" to see the band. Not sure where this would've been the issue as it was bright as bright could be! It is disheartening to say these things and the worst part is that we just simply cannot go back in time to make things "right". I do pray that the following customers get the correct service they pay for, even if they choose to spend less. We hoped for an elegant display with uplights to showcase the room and create the right forestry/enchanted ambiance for us, and even opted out of huge floral decor for this reason, but we were disappointingly let down. We didn't interact directly with anyone from Got Light because our amazing wedding planner, Something Blue Productions, handled everything. BUT. Our lighting came out amazing!! We chose to do both hanging bistro lights, as well as hanging lights on an entire wall of the venue and it seriously made such a difference in the room. Zach was our designer and he was gracious with the demands and difficulty of our reception venue, and was understanding when adapting to last-minute changes. They were helpful in providing an initial quote and refining their plans after the venue walkthrough (they also provided some suggestions to make the space even better, without being pushy). They set-up and tore-down early and late enough so as not to disturb the event. Got Light provided the custom lighting and chandeliers at our wedding at Beaulieu Garden in September 2010. They were an absolute pleasure to work with and went above and beyond to give us the custom look that we wanted without forcing us into indentured servitude to finance our wedding lighting costs. Jon Retsky (owner/wizard), Mike Kuhlmann (lighting gnome extraordinaire) and Russ Holt (lighting elf extraordinaire) took an inept verbal explanation of a light I had seen at a Chicago restaurant and somehow MacGyvered up an incredible chandelier based on my explanation. The results were stunning, to say the least, and I feel lucky and indebted to this talented group for listening to me blather on about a light that couldn't be commerically purchased and coming up with a bespoke design for our wedding. As I've admitted in other reviews, I can be a handful when it comes to design aesthetics and expectations, but this group was able to manage my (admittedly high) expectations about what was and was not possible in terms of executing a custom lighting look within a given budget. Every penny I paid them was worth it, and honestly, in retrospect, knowing the quality of their work product and commitment to delivering lighting that really takes your breathe away, I would pay them even more. I have worked with GotLight for several years now for a variety of event audio/visual and lighting needs. They are stellar! I have worked with Russ and John (owners) on large scale Galas, Ashley on weddings and small non-profit events, and with technical leads (John and Jason). I've never encountered a bad egg in 5 years of working with their team. They are all incredibly detail orientated and experts in their field. On occasion, if I contact them for an event without much lead time, they are booked up .... and then I cry in a closet because I have to work with another vendor LOL. I am reducing my rating to one star. I am sad to do this however here is why: 1) I have been on vacation since I wrote my review. 2) I returned and saw the owners response and felt compelled to reach out until I read my personal emails. 3) my personal emails contained several emails from the owner Jonathan R. 4) those emails were both threatening me with lawsuits if i didn't remove my review and bribery pleading with me to remove my review - i.e. offering me dinner at my favorite restaurant or a day at my favorite spa if I removed my review. I will not remove my review. I stand by my review. I only reduced my stars based on my opinion of the owners correspondence to me. Publicly here he is apologetic and privately alternates between apology and accusation and threat. I have all the emails to substantiate my opinions. what I would hope would come of this is all future opportunities (potential clients) will be well taken care of and that this one unfortunate incident will be overridden with 5 star reviews because people are truly happy with CONSISTENT 5 star service. read more

Please don't hate me, but I know Got Light? has done amazing jobs (that's why I went with them) but for my wedding, it was just okay. Now, the workers and people who I worked with were EXCELLENT...this is not about the people. It's just that what I envisioned and expected was not fulfilled sadly. One in a million I suppose. I looked through their work and it was brilliant. I wanted the same type of purple/plum glow at my reception as I've seen in others but perhaps due to the natural light or miscommunication on the potency of the color or whatever it was, the color at my wedding came out to more of a pink. Still, the wedding was lovely with the lighting provided...but you know how brides have a dream vision of what it should be like. I spoke with the workers and they ended up refunding me a small amount. Better than nothing right? I still thank Got Light? for their hard work because the night was amazing regardless. read more

My husband and I got married at the de Young museum a few months ago and we had our reception in the museum cafe. Got Light was one of the two preferred vendors for our venue and we no doubt went with them after seeing their amazing work. Karl was a joy to work with. We used Got Light? for our wedding at CornerStone Gardens last September. I've waited to write the review because I wanted to get my pictures and video back to make sure I was accurate in my disappointment of the lighting. Our lighting package was VERY expensive (and extensive) and we expected everything to be executed perfectly. I worked with Ashley who was "good" - we had several mis-communications, but overall she was sweet. We had chosen purple lighting for the barn based on a picture they had (from a previous Cornerstone wedding). I created an entire look around the lighting - purple sequince pillows, table linens, flowers, chandeliers, furniture, etc - all to tie into the lighting theme. What was delivered was a "light" hue of purple. I was so disappointed, but didn't let it bother me the day of. Had I known it would not have been the purple I wanted, I would have chosen a different color scheme - we were going for a "club look". Their set-up crew did do a wonderful job. We hired what we were told was the best (and most expensive) because we wanted it done correctly. We spent a fortune on our wedding and lighting was a big part of the experience. Sorry to say, but I wouldn't choose them again because of this. I know they have terrific reviews and are very well respected, but they missed the mark for what we were trying to achieve. read more

I had the extreme pleasure of working with Natalia of Got Light? for my wedding this past November. I have to preface this by saying that I was that annoying bride that had 2,000,000 questions (and they had to deal with me for over a year!) Anyhow, Natalia never made me feel like I was being the bother that I was and I am absolutely indebted to her for being so kind and informative throughout my whole planning process. Upon walking in to our venue (The Bently Reserve) on the night of our reception, I was blown away--the lighting was exactly as I imagined it and our dance floor was out of this world awesome. I opted for a glass gobo for our dance floor (given the detail of our design) and Natalia was even sweet enough to send it to me as a keepsake after the wedding. I've worked with Got Light since they started and would never dream of hiring a different lighting designer for any of my weddings. What keeps me coming back is a personal level of service and the knowledge that they "get it". The people in the office are fun and enjoy what they do, their passion for lighting and making visual eye candy that creates a mood for the event is evident in all of my interactions with them. Both Jon & Russ inspire me to create more beautiful and more creative events. Having worked events all over the country, I have not found another company that even comes close to the service and style of Got Light. Three cheers for Irja and her design team! Irja was responsive and flexible during the design proces (she was very patient with us as we went back and forth about whether/how to do a slideshow). The lighting at our wedding went off without a hitch, and Irja went above the call of duty with the powerpoint slideshow we created. At the last minute, we realized we hadn't set it to loop and had used a font that wouldn't show up correctly unless that font was installed on the computer being used. Got Light? did our City Hall Wedding for 300 guests. They did a great job and got everything together in a very timely manner. Our coordinator Hayley was really nice and super friendly and we were very happy with our results, especially the wash and our custom monogram on the dance floor. And another minor thing was one of the images was a little more skewed, meaning it wasn't properly framed in the screen compared to the other screen. Not enough for most to notice or for me to complain at the time. Overall: City Hall is beautiful on it's own but Got Light? does all the little things, up lights, draping, etc to make it perfect. Nothing but the best service and product delivered by a creative and professional staff. Our wedding reception at the Julia Morgan Ballroom was made particularly special because of the above and beyond effort by Mike K and the entire Got Light? design team. Our budget was tight, so Mike showed up himself to help focus the dance floor and the fireplace washes. The JMB seems like a challenging place to work with all of the anti-rooms and intricate detail. My wife was blown away at the results of the layered uplighting, dance floor and fireplace washes, drape arrangement, and floral pinspotting. Got Light did an incredible job at our wedding at the de Young museum in July! We had chosen Global Gourmet for catering, and GG handled all the details with Got Light for us. All we had to do was pick colors and the gobo pattern for the floor. Nice and simple. I really appreciated how helpful Hayley was when I contacted her with questions. We were trying to choose between 3 different colors for the ambient glow in the cafe and were having a hard time imagining what it would look like in a space with so much glass. Hayley not only gave us recommendations based on our color scheme and decorations, but she also sent over photos. Hayley also made very helpful recommendations for accent lighting. Our reception space would have looked great even without the lighting, but that blushed pink ambient glow was the final touch that really impressed everyone! The dot pattern we had chosen for the dance floor didn't really show up very well due to some of the other lighting in the area being a little too bright - not a huge deal though. Also, we're really glad we added on the drape for the cafe. Sucks that it was $1000+ for the pipe and drape, but it was necessary for the space. Thanks, Got Light! read more

== Cliff's Notes Version == Got-Light provided the lighting for our wedding reception (6.19.2010) in the barn at Corner Stone Gardens, in Sonoma, CA. Mike and Hayley @ got-light made the entire process super easy. A couple of phone calls, a couple of emails... that's it. done. The results were spectacular. == The Nitty Gritty == During the entire wedding planning process, one of my only jobs was to "light the barn" (my finance handled everything else, bless her heart). I had fully expected this to be a gauntlet/time-suck of meetings and reviews and authorizations and coordination of people. Thank goodness it wasn't. I hate having meetings just to have meetings. Show me what you got; lemme pick what I want; gimme a fair price; then do it. Got-Light did just that. On the recommendation of one of our other vendors, I spoke w/ Hayley, and she sent over some basic info, and photos of an event they had worked on at the Corner Stone barn. After reviewing the material, we contracted with them to provide the lighting for our reception. Mike and I had a couple of short (less than10 min) phone calls, and exchanged a couple of emails. We (the wife and I) looked at some photos, asked a couple of questions. Mike provided an estimate. I fully appreciate that the whole process from intro to "take my money" took less than 1hr total. Seriously. It went something like this: Me: We're going to have a couple of lounges (couches and tables), some cocktail tables, a dj set up, a cake table in the center of the entrance area and a 1000-origami crane piece that we'd like lit. Mike: Cool. So we'll wash the lounges in some soft light to highlight them. Spot the cranes and cake, and up-light the interior and exterior of the barn. Do you want a wash/pattern on the outside of the barn? It softens the green paint and makes the outside area glow. Me: Great. But pass on the exterior wash. Mike: Got it. Do you want to do a wash/pattern on the dance floor? It'll really help set define the space. Me: Oh yeah. Saw that in one of the photos. Yes. Mike: I'll send you samples of the wash, and an updated quote/estimate. Me: Great. Later, we pick the wash, send payment. Done. Mike had some great suggestions, like path lighting and other accents that would have been really cool, but would have exceeded our budget. He offered suggestions without sales-y pressure. Day-of, I didn't see who set up the lighting, but it was cleanly installed and exceeded our expectations. The pictures are accurate. What you see is what you get. Actually, the in-person experience is better than the photos. Overall I was thrilled with the process, and impressed with the people. The crew did an outstanding job installing the fixtures and expertly lighting the barn (inside and out). If you want no-hassle, professional lighting for your event, you gotta call got-light. read more

I thoroughly enjoyed working with Jon and his team. They were so flexible on our actual wedding day. Due to weather or original lighting design had to reworked. Jon and his team went above and beyond to ensure that no flower, cake or corner was left unlit. We have a mixture of uplighting, chandeliers, gobos, and washes. They also handled all of our draping as well, giving our event a unified look. Prior to the big day Jon and his team were responsive and accommodating. Whether we were meeting for our site walk through, initial creative consultation, or just picking the right gobo they were beside us and responding to us the entire time. Just married! 5/29/10 at the Julia Morgan Ballroom. The Ballroom would have looked so dark and even drab without the lighting. Hayley is great and easy to work with. Same with Mike. Although Got Light's reputation is pretty good here, I have to give them an honest review. My brother got married at San Francisco City Hall in February and I helped with the lighting. Got Light was late on set up and had to go back to their shop for forgotten equipment. On top of that, a light tree fell down. Even worse, the owner, I think his name was John was calling my girlfriend "baby" all night long. read more
