JK sound did an amazing job at my backyard wedding. As someone who attends a lot of shows (concerts), music was an important part of my wedding. The sound was excellent. The set up was elegant and minimal. I had my friend DJ, another friend play keyboard and another friend play guitar and sing and all equipment was very simple to integrate. Chris was super helpful, easy going and very responsive. Reasonably priced as well. Highly recommend for your next event! read more

Chris Campanella from JK Sound is just amazing. My then fiancé reached out to him in November, just two months before our wedding, and Chris was so responsive and knowledgeable throughout the whole process. We ended up renting a loudspeaker system, two mics, a digital mixing console, and dance floor lighting. The cost was incredibly reasonable considering the final total included not just the rental, but the set-up and breakdown labor, an attendant on site, and transportation. About a month before the wedding, Chris made time to come out to meet us at our venue to do a walkthrough. What made this special? Our venue only allowed for viewing on Tuesday evenings from 6:30 pm to 8 pm. Though based in San Francisco, he was there before 6:30 pm and proceeded to walk through the dining room to check outlets and power sources, get a sense of the acoustics of the room, etc. On the day of the wedding, Chris was the one in attendance and the sound and lighting was absolutely perfect. From our entrance and first dance songs, to the music playing during dinner, to the 2.5 hour dancefloor playlist - everything was super crisp (never too loud/too soft). My then fiance made a playlist and downloaded it to a laptop and it worked seamlessly with the sound and lighting equipment. During dancing, Chris wordlessly turned down the chandelier lighting so that the lighting from JK Sound could really shine. The strobe lighting to the beat drops was so memorable. A lot of my cousins had fun getting up on stage and pretending to be DJs lol. All in all, would highly recommend JK Sound for your sound and lighting needs! read more

Great shop for repair of vintage professional audio equipment. Henry Wu is a fine electronics repair guy. He fixed several of my studio JBL speakers. read more

Evidently my friends now think I'm the go-to guy for DJ's because of the two DJ nights that I've helped plan. My contribution to planning was essentially boiled down to me sitting around and making fun of everyone else. So, imagine my dismay when one of my non-Yelp friends calls to let me know that she is hosting a fundraiser with over five hundred people in attendance and that she needs me to get some DJ equipment (which I don't have), set up the equipment (which I've never done), and bring a DJ (obviously she isn't aware that I have no clout). Easy enough right?!?!?!?! I put out the word and thankfully I hear back from DJ extraordinaire George C. (http://www.yelp.com/user_details?userid=0qCIosK_yncVPApT7J0VFw). Not only is he wiling to spin for free, but he points me in the right direction for DJ equipment rental. That direction being JK Sound. The staff at JK walk me through DJ equipment like I am a third grader which is what I needed. We have to e-mail back and forth because of the hall's sound system and PA, and they were always helpful with all my questions and concerns. The day of pickup, the equipment is ready for me, although only one turntable is in a case but I didn't think anything of it. I get the equipment to the hall and realize I need another cable to go from the turntables to the PA and JK Sound told me to head back over and borrow a cable at no additional charge!! The equipment works out well. The DJ is happy. My friend is happy. I am happy. When I drop the equipment off the next day I got hit with questions on why I didn't have both turntables in cases and where the extra cables came from. Obviously a different staff on the two days and it seems like they need to work on communication between crews. I explained the situation and they were cool, but you could tell someone at work was going to get a "talking-to." That aside I would have no problems going back for rental and no problems recommending them!! read more

I just have to echo the sentiments of the folks that had a chance to jot down reviews of JK Sound before myself... these guys are great. I was tasked with DJing a hyphey soiree in Potrero Hill about a month ago, and when I called my go-to A/V rental place (Avista), only to learn that they were tapped on gear for the weekend, I started to panic just slightly. Lucky for me, there's this nifty website called Yelp and I was able to track down an alternate facility for speakers and amps within a few shakes of a lamb's tail. I needed a pretty basic rig, and the guy I spoke with over the phone seemed to be speaking clingon... but I had no choice but to trust that he wasn't steering me in the right direction. He made sure to include all sorts of gagets and gizmos to make certain I had the most optimal sound they could provide me with... and while I couldn't even figure out how to plug most of it in, it was nice to know they at least had my back and went above and beyond the usual call of duty. They give you a pretty sick discount for first time renters. If I'm not mistaken, I think it was somewhere in the 50% off range. Pretty dope, to say the least. It's a bit out there (near Candlestick Park), but they have a huge warehouse and an incredibly knowledgeable staff that can likely answer any question you may have, elementary or otherwise. If you have a party of your own that's in need of audio or video assistance, I highly recommend you hit 'em up! read more

I have been an events manager for about 7 years now. I've worked on events ranging from The SF Marathon, small press conferences with the Mayor's Office, to major concerts. JK Sound has been incredibly helpful for all of them. Most recently, I've been producing a quarterly show case called UnderCover Presents. We take an influential album and reinterpret it with a different band on each song. For our latest project we decided to do Pixies' Doolittle with over 100 musicians from more than 15 bands. Of course, we went with a venue that wasn't setup for live music. JK Sound was incredibly. They worked with our limited budget, hooked it up with a digital sound board, and ran the most efficient sound checks/set changes as possible. We were able to finish the show about an hour earlier than we had previously estimated because everything went so smoothly. Kevin and Chris were particularly helpful and patient while we got them information regarding the 15 bands. I HIGHLY recommend JK Sound to anyone. They tell you what's realistic, work with your price range, and are kind as all heck in the process. read more

I rented a piece of equipment from JK Sound and it didn't work at the event. When I returned it, I was told by one of the managers that he told the staff not to rent that particular piece of equipment because it wasn't working properly. The staff person then said he also thought that it shouldn't have been rented. Then why was it rented? The equipment was supposed to be used to project a talk at a charity event through a microphone and then play music from an iPhone. By not working properly, it impacted the quality of the event. It is an annual event and I regret to say that I won't be renting again from JK Sound given this experience. read more

These guys are awesome. Great customer service. Knowledgable. And from the limited experience I have... affordable. I was having a small party with about 50 people. I wanted to find a speaker that I could plug into my iPhone so I could play music off of it. (lame set up I know, but it'snot like I needed a DJ) They recommended a modest single Mackie SRM 450 speaker, with a stand and the necessary cables. I was good to go. The best part is that the speaker was awesome! It kicked and for $60+ for the one night rental, it was totally worth it! These guys normally deal with large massive venues and shows, you know real professional grade audio equipment. The mere fact that they didn't laugh me out the door when I called with my silly request meant a lot. Cool peeps indeed. read more

I was in a pickle, and needed two powered subwoofers for an Oakland event later in the week. I called a place in Oakland, but they were tapped out due to Burning Man going on. They recommended JK Sound in SF Not only did JK Sound have the subs I needed (tons of selection), but it turns out they are located near my practice studio in Bayview/DogPatch. The gents working there were helpful, and I'll be back again! read more

These guys came through for me on a super short notice when no one else was willing to help. I was doing an event with my business and didn't think it would be so difficult to get a hold of a small PA system, but I was wrong. After scouring the earth for information I cam across JK Audio. Totally awesome staff and great equipment. They were really patient with me when I was flipping out and being a little nervous. I got there and they walked me through everything I needed. I'm always going to rent from these guys. Really reasonable prices too, for what I got. read more

A week before a big wedding at the Bentley Reserve and I highly recommend to anyone looking for a great sound system rental! I requested info on the website and was contacted by Chris. He was great throughout our conversation. Flexible, quick to respond, and priced everything less than the competitors in the city. He also juggled working with myself and the DJ of our event. When we picked up the equipment, the staff on site was friendly and asked us more questions about our event so that we had the right equipment and if we needed more. Super friendly! Go to JK Sound if you need the best price for rentals and if you want great customer service! read more

This is a fantastic company to work with if you need to rent equipment. From the moment I contacted them they've been nothing but helpful and professional. I don't know squat about DJ equipment, so needless to say I was a little nervous about having to rent it for someone else. But my contact (Chris) was super responsive and flexible when I needed to make additional requests. When we (my party peeps) arrived at the venue, there was the set up, looking all shiny and ready to roll! Since we had so little time at our party it was really important that the DJ didn't have to waste any time setting up. And since I couldn't be there to make sure JK Sound showed up in time and supervise the set up, I just had to have faith that it would be there. It's a little pricey to rend equipment, but my experience with them was great, so I think it's worth it for peace of mind. read more

I subcontracted my audio needs to JKSound after realizing my DJ rig wasn't going to cut it for an outdoor event in a newly built location. Chris Campanella at JKSound was a great business partner and helped determine a high quality package within the appropriate scope. Day of, Engineer Jamie and Chris were professional with an early arrival, seamless install, and quick problem-solving during the event. I found the collaboration awesome from start to finish. Thank you JKSound for making me sound great and for being critical to a successful event (and happy client!) I would recommend this team for any audio solution and look forward to working with them again. read more

JK Sound did the National Night Out this week in the Bayview and they were the JAM. The sound quality was phenomenal and didn't falter for a second all night. I can safely say it would not have been nearly the party it was without them. If I ever need event sound done in the Bay Area, I now know where to turn. read more

Great service, the best in sound. My venue has never sounded better. The team at JK are awesome.

We needed a portable sound system for an event held in our home. The people at JK were extremely helpful and suggested a small speaker system with everything we needed. It was the perfect size and quality. Everyone was helpful at time of pick-up to show us how it worked to returning the item. Would definitely use them again. Thanks JK Sound! read more

I've been mixing live sound in the Bay Area since 1983, and can highly recomend J.K. Sound. The people are great, the prices are competitive, and they've got the gear I need, when I need it. And they'll deliver it, too. They can handle anything from rental of a single piece of outboard gear to a full P.A. system for a major event. They also do installations of complete systems for venues, from bars to churches. Take the time to get to know them, and discuss your needs - you won't be disappointed! read more

I didn't actually end up renting from JK Sound because they did a bait-and-switch with the price. We had a clear, detailed conversation about what I was looking for, the exact equipment I'd need, and the dates (pickup/dropoff time) I would rent it. Kevin gave me a quote and said he would just incorporate the 30% discount special they were running and send me the paperwork via email. When he sent me the email, however, the price was much higher than even the pre-discount quote. He said that the price he quoted me earlier was just for 1 day, not the 2 days that I needed it. To me, our earlier conversation was very clear. It really felt like a bait and switch on the price (also, at first he tried to send me a contract without even telling me what the price was, which felt a little shady). So, I don't know about the equipment, but if you do work with these guys, be very careful about their business practices. read more

I haven't rented any equipment from JK Sound (yet), but I recently brought my Technics SL-1210's to Sean for maintenance and repair. He was very up front about how busy they were and how long it would take for the repairs (which I REALLY appreciate). He also called and gave me an update when he knew it would take a little longer since they were still waiting on replacement parts to arrive (again, I REALLY appreciate that!). All said and done, both sliders were replaced, along with a busted audio module (which my friend thought I was nuts cause he couldn't hear the slight difference between the quality of both decks). But they found and replaced the busted module, and both decks are in great health and performing like new again! Also, not a single new scratch or ding on my decks, they really respected and took excellent care of them while they were in the shop for those few weeks. THANK YOU Sean and crew for bringing my old decks back to life again! I will absolutely bring them back to you the next time they need repair or tune up, even despite the over an hour drive it takes me to just to get to your shop! ;) read more

Great experience! Very reasonably priced, extremely helpful staff and good equipment. I came in for a mic and was informed that my speaker system would not work with a mic as is. The staff was extremely helpful and gave me adapters and cables so that my mic would work for my important event. Will absolutely keep them in mind for any future needs! read more

For the last 2 years, JK Sound has provided the audio equipment for our SF Beer Week event. Not knowing anything about audio equipment, I was very relieved to have a company that was able to deliver, assemble and load out everything that our DJ needed for the event. These are your go-to guys for sound in the bay area. I've gone to them many times over the years, and always have been satisfied. Most recently I needed to put in a fairly complex order for a friend's wedding, involving a 10 piece Jewish gypsy band. Yeah. Chris over there was really, really helpful, and helped me suss out exactly what I needed in addition to my own gear. The day before he called to check in and go over everything with me just to be sure we'd be cool. That is service. Sometimes you get the gear in weird arrangements, but that's just part of the charm I say. Either way the gear is always in great working condition and just as ordered. Thanks guys. read more

We have used JK Sound for Jazz at Filoli in Woodside for many, many years. Michael Lacina and Chris Campanella are wonderful to work with. They don't know the meaning of "it can't be done." They make us feel like we're their only customer, arriving early with all the equipment needed and staying late to pack it all up. This place tried to con me out of $140 for a repair. I blew the amp in one of my JBL studio monitors. I went to JK Sound and when I arrived the repair person was not there. These person there suggested I leave the speaker and he would check and see if they even work on this particular model (i.e. it is just not repairable). I told him to have the repair person call me the next day when he came in, BEFORE doing any work, so I could see if they even work on these monitors. The next day I get a call from the repair guy, unfriendly guy just to start with, yelling at me and not even asking me what the problem was. He told me that the parts are hard to find and that I would need a new speaker cabinet as well, because there was a defect on this model that made the coating on the cabinet ooze off and he was blaming the problems on this ooze. He figured it would cost $1000 total parts and labor. Total rackett. Then he tells me that while he has done nothing but visually look at my speaker and call me, that I need to pay a $140 estimate fee to get my speaker back. What a joke and a scam. I told him that we would be going to court. He gave me my speaker back with no charge. I took the speaker home and spent an hour with a multimeter swapping parts with the good speaker in the pair, found the problem and ordered the circuit board online for $375. DIY, yo. Good luck to you, JK! read more

I can't even begin to state how awesome the service, the personnel & the quality of workmanship are at JK Sounds. I brought my DJ speakers in to get repaired. First, the prices are more than reasonable versus any of their competitors. Secondly, they are very upfront & straightforward about what they can & cannot do. They will do everything they possibly can to help you resolve your problem. Thirdly, they keep you informed as to what is happening with your order/service.There are no surprises from them nor any unexpected or ghost fees that suddenly materialize. All of the employees I encountered made you feel like family. They gave you that innate sense that they were just as invested as you were to see whatever you needed completed & that you were completely satisfied. And to add icing on that cake, they gave me tips on how to get the most out of my equipment with the smoothest effort & the most minimal risk to damaging my equipment. This is no joke & I do not work for them. When was the last time a company made you feel that confident about their overall service ?
