She's organized, transparent and truly effective with her coaching style. From initial intake, program design, through the very last session I felt connected and engaged. Amy doesn't apply cookie cutter tips and suggestions in her coaching style. Instead she takes time to get to know you and holds you accountable long the way. I HIGHLY recommend working with Amy and would definitely work with her again in the future.

From our first meeting to the last one, Amy was informative, clear and supportive. Her vast professional knowledge assisted me and helped strengthen my own professional growth. I came to her with specific goals for areas of improvement (e.g. articulation and pronunciation), and to this day I feel more aware and equipped with knowledge and skills to continue with my own development as a communicator (I am an educator). Further, her professional competence goes beyond content. Amy also guided me to identify habits and emotions that were hindering my communication, while I capitalized on my aptitude and strengths. I feel that everyone deserves quality coaching in his/her life. Amy Johnson is that type!

I feel obligated to leave a review because Lee helped me through a job transition where I was…read morerequired to speak in front of new audiences of all sizes in the technology industry. I came to him (rather frantic) because I had experienced paralyzing stage fright during one of my presentations a few months prior. I couldn't take the risk with the new position. After spending time on Google, I came across Speaking Circles. Lee agreed to meet with me the next day as a private coach (the fees were reasonable) and then I began to attend the evening workshops he calls "Speaking Circles." I can honestly say it changed everything for me. I am now comfortable and have learned to trust myself in front of audiences. It's simple because the approach begins to train your nervous system for the experience of speaking and also teaches you to be with one person at a time when addressing an audience. All around, I highly recommend this to anyone, especially if you feel you have incurable stage fright. Like I said, I've had a pretty remarkable turn around and am now able to focus on my connection with the audience and relaxing into a more natural state.

It's also been the perfect place to find my voice and actually inspire myself! Each time I've participated in a circle, once I let-go I feel like I am literally being spoken-through and am amazed at both the insights and depth of my speaking. I encourage anyone who is the least bit curious to come to a circle. Chances are that you will feel much more at ease in front of a group, and I promise, that's just the beginning...

We were looking to get some coaching, just to make sure that how we presented the topic, ourselves, and represented our business was the best it could be. We worked with Donnie, over several sessions. I've done a lot of speaking engagements, and feel pretty confident in my ability to present - both in person and virtually. So I wasn't quite sure, to be honest, if I would get a lot out of this session. What I walked away with from our time together was a whole lot of improvement to my presentation skills. It wasn't just about how I spoke etc - but also on the actual content I was presenting too. We were really focused in on how to create the most impactful message at every moment of the presentation, so that our attendees would walk away feeling like they got something great out of it. Hands down, our presentation was 1000x better because of our work with Donnie. And I'll be back in a heartbeat the next time an important gig comes up. Whether you're new to speaking or a seasoned veteran, they do a really good job at providing the feedback needed to take what you're doing to the next level - and all in the service of not only you, as a communicator, but the people you're speaking to.

I have been taking lessons with Alex for a year now. It's mostly on and off, mostly off due to my…read morescheduling. The reason why I reached out to Alex was that I haven't been using my writing skills for years because I was in sales and it requires little to no professional writing at all. In the beginning, the cost was a bit higher than I had expected. I never had to pay for a tutor, so I don't know what the average price was. Nonetheless, I still scheduled a meeting with Alex. I wanted to see if $$$$ means quicker results. I have noticed that my writing skills have improved over the year. He was able to point out the mistakes I been overlooking and help me catch these mistakes. He is very patient and is willing to work with my crazy schedule. I can't say that my writing skills were improved overnight. It did require that I also do homework, and my willingness to improve as well. The bottom line, could I write a novel without any mistakes? No. Could I write professionally with little to no mistake? Sure.

Due to COVID and transition, all our lessons happened on Zoom. I was a little bit suspicious at the beginning since I had another teacher before and it was a waste of time. But I still gave Alex a shot when we started and Alex's class turned out to be very effective even in Zoom, his notes and exercises are well prepared. I highly recommend Alex for someone who needs an accent reduction course!

Urasenke hosts an abbreviated (not the four-hour long-form) tea ceremony at 6 PM on the first Wednesdays of each month. It's part educational program - because the hosts encourage everyone to ask questions as they go - and part tea ceremony. If you have no idea what to expect, here's some help: - You will be kneeling or sitting on mats the whole time, so wear clothes that are comfortable and stretchy (jeans can be binding in the knees). But do dress up a bit, as this is a somewhat formal event. - You will be asked to remove your shoes just inside the door. Wear clean socks. - You won't be served a meal. While the long-form ceremony includes a light meal, this presentation does not. You'll get a little sweet to contrast with the tea. And the thin tea is meant to be exactly three-and-a-half sips. - You really can ask as many questions as you like. Take some time soon to pause and notice the moment. Have some tea at Urasenke.

This unmarked tea room presents the entire experience of formal tea ritual as practiced by the Urasenke Foundation, a Kyoto-based non-profit. From the Japanese prints, to the flower arrangement, to an inspiring poem to the subdued lighting and tatami mats, a theme for the season is expressed to prepare your mind...then you enter the tea room. Each tea utensil and movement in making the tea has been refined to create a meaningful ritual that celebrates the beauty of the moment and being in the present. We had a very bitter live tea that was whipped and served with sweets that created an effect that the bitterness became suprisingly pleasant and refreshing. The students and teachers were exceedingly friendly and calmly dispelled any awkwardness for those of us on dial-a-clue as to the subtlties of Japanese etiquette. Among our group was a Buddhist monk from Tibet who asked a number of interesting questions relating tea to zen. Check their calendar online for the weekly "Open Hearth" dates and make a reservation as this is no casual cup of tea. I believe the Urasenke people also host occasional tea services at the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco.
