We arrived a little early before the dinner crowd, so it was nice and quiet inside. As soon as we walked in, Gwen greeted us with a warm, friendly hello and invited us to sit wherever we'd like. She came right over to our table, welcomed us again, and got our drink order. When she asked about appetizers, we decided to try the bruschetta. Our drinks and appetizer came out quickly, and I absolutely LOVED the bruschetta. Even my son enjoyed it, which says a lot considering he's not the biggest fan of tomatoes... oops My son ordered the lasagna, and I was pleasantly surprised that the pasta dishes came with a salad, especially at that price point. The Caesar salads were simple, with Ken's dressing on the side, but they were fresh, and that goes a long way for me. We both thoroughly enjoyed our meals, and Gwen provided consistently friendly, attentive service the entire time. The only downside for me was the dessert selection. For this week's restaurant option, I chose to go to Johnny Brusco's for dinner this past Friday. This place is located in Hoover, which was inspired by New York style pizzas. I personally enjoyed the vibe of the restaurant. It was one of those places with a lot of things hung up on the wall, and as someone who likes to look around, it was very pleasing to the eyes. It wasn't too crowded when we went so service went by quick. The staff were lovely and gave great recommendations that aren't biased (as far as I know). Since I couldn't eat meat, my boyfriend and I split a 12" pizza that was half veggie deluxe with a cauliflower crust and half meat deluxe. I usually stay away from cauliflower crust pizzas because they tend to be chalky and lack flavor, but this one was so so good. It was very flavorful and you can tell that they used real, fresh ingredients. Our food also didn't take long to come out but was hot and fresh when it did. My half of the pizza is gluten-free and vegetarian, however, they are a flour-rich environment and it may not be ideal for individuals with extreme gluten intolerance, so I would keep that in mind. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant if you want a taste of New York or if you're just a pizza lover.

I like how their two sizes are listed on the website as sixer and tener. It's def not cheap but I guess not horribly priced either. With multiple locations in Nashville maybe I'll try them again eventually, or just default to my favorite, Jets, again which is close to home. But if you want somewhere with Detroit style pizza to go sit down and dine, Emmy Squared can be your move.

A bertolone's original, this delicious dish boasts chunks of Italian sausage, a creamy, cheesy sauce, and turnip greens. Rich and satisfying, it can't be missed!! The tables are stocked with chunks of bread and bottles of dipping sauce made onsite. John had several different kinds of meats, veggies, cheeses, and drizzles to choose from, so it was fun trying to figure out something new and traditional to enjoy. John told us he's been making pizzas for years and loves the flexibility of serving customers this way. He was very knowledgeable while helping us select toppings, patient as we figured it out, and friendly with everyone involved. The pizzas also tasted amazing.
