Be careful of their bait and switch! I was clear in all of my communication but they booked me for a more expensive package.

This was the never ending massage. I have never before wanted a massage to end, never, until today. I had originally found this spot via Yelp and feel compelled to share my experience in hopes it could help someone in the future. I originally tried to book the Thai Essence special (60 minute foot massage and 60 minute Thai massage) online through Yelp but didn't feel comfortable giving a credit card via yelp and was told to call in. I did and booked the Thai Essence package for Saturday. That process seemed straightforward and easy. I arrived and was greeted by a lovely receptionist and given a delicious cup of tea. I was then greeted by the masseuse who seemed equally pleasant. We walked in the room and he asked if I had done Thai massage before. I had in San Francisco and shared my experience. He then asked if I had tried the "herbal ball" before. I told him I had no idea what that was. He then said they'll get me wet so we'd do the foot massage first. I thought that was strange because none of my previous sessions involved water but chalked it up to this place doing things differently. The package started with a 60 minute foot massage. No one needs a 60 minute foot massage especially a mediocre one. It was 60 minutes of moving hands across my skin with barely any pressure. I asked for more pressure once and realized it wasn't going to happen. I immediately thought of how I wasted extra money for this add on. Then he started the Thai massage with the extremely hot balls. I said "owe" no fewer than 6 times. And this went on and on. I remember saying "great, thank you" when he had me roll over because I thought it was finally over. Nope. Another long period. I mentioned to him that it felt pretty long and he chuckled. It did eventually end. I finally got my phone back and saw it was late. Perhaps they built in time it took to set up and transition between services. When I told the front desk how long it felt, she said it was 90 minutes. It then became apparent they booked me for some extreme package. When I shared that was an error and not what I booked, she told me she'd give me 25%. It was not a discount and just what's listed on their website. After expressing my frustration, she charged me for the service I booked. I'm not sure if this is their MO, but thought it could be. Hopefully this prevents them from doing this in the future(if it wasn't a mistake). Note: I modified the review to reduce the star rating based on the owner's response to my initial review. I had originally given them 3 stars in the event the "miscommunication" was inadvertent. His response shows clear dishonesty. There was no parroting back the package I booked during my initial call, I never received a text or call confirmation from their company (I don't even know if I gave them my number when I booked), and there was no mention by the receptionist or the therapist about the modified service. As noted above, I made two comments that demonstrated I thought the service was supposed to be shorter but the therapist either didn't respond or, in one case, laughed. Unfortunately his response demonstrates clear dishonesty from the company.

It was a great experience! Clean, friendly staff! Monica was fabulous! Ask for her. you will not be disappointed!

Experience of this place: First time Atmosphere: It's very professional, and it's right up stairs between au bon pain and Starbucks on Boylston st. *very near Arlington station. Massage: I have to say, i was extremely pleased with the thai massage. I was a bit scared to do it because originally, i wanted the hot oil massage alongside with my older sister (we had a bonding/sister day). But i told Chris that i want something relaxing and soothing. Therefore, "be gentle with me." At the end of the day, he did a great job and I didn't feel any pain or bruising. It was very relaxing and I've had many male masseuses that made me feel pain and suffering. But man, I have never felt so great! Pricing: Everything was awesome until I got to pay, the 30% off for couples as well as first timers, which is good. And if you make another appointment in the same day you went, you can have 20% off your next one. But it was very pricey. Overall: It was great :)

Was able to make a same day reservation, we walked in at 2pm and made the reservation for 2. I had the Thai massage with a guy (Chris?) and my friend had Swedish. We both enjoyed our one hour massage.

Reception Area - spotless and smells great!

While I was already in an Uber on the way to my early morning appointment, the spa called my partner to say their water system had burst and the flotation service could not be done, which meant my appointment would be pushed back by an hour and 15 minutes. Since I wasn't going to wait that long, I turned around and went home. A few minutes later they called again saying they could take me only 15 minutes after my original time, which was confusing considering the earlier issue, and unfortunately it no longer worked with my schedule. I ended up keeping the massage and facial appointment later that day. When I arrived, I had to wait behind another client whose check-out went well into my appointment time. On top of that, I was told my service wasn't scheduled as a prenatal massage, so they needed additional time to change the room. My partner specifically booked a prenatal package over the phone, so this was another unexpected delay. Once I was in the room, my therapist Erica was very kind and welcoming. She explained how the prenatal massage would work, starting face up and then moving to my side later. The massage itself was fine, but the facial was disappointing. It was essentially just a face wash and warm towel. I've had quick 30-minute facials before and they typically include at least some pore extractions or a face mask but that was not the case here. During the massage, I was told I would eventually move to my side due to the prenatal positioning, but that never happened, likely because we ran out of time due to the earlier delays. It would have been helpful if that had been explained. At the end, I was offered water in a cup (tap water I assume) rather than a bottle, which felt a bit unusual for a spa experience. I also had to ask for tea, while it had been automatically offered to my sister who finished her service earlier. Overall, the staff was polite and kind, but the experience felt disorganized from start to finish. For nearly $400 for two services plus tip, it unfortunately did not feel worth the cost.

I was coached to shut out the noise and focus on my breath. To my surprise, I stayed in for over three minutes. The exhilaration afterward was incredible, only surpassed by the sensation when re-entering the sauna as warmth and circulation flooded back in. It's invigorating, deeply calming, and oddly addictive. Release Well-Being Center is a premier destination for contrast therapy. I've not found anything that comes close to this experience. Known as BLISS, their expertly curated sauna and cold plunge experience lives up to its name. The space is stunning, the amenities are immaculate, and the staff is exceptionally friendly and professional. From the moment you walk in, you feel welcomed and that you are in for an elevated experience. The changing rooms are beautifully appointed (think high-end resort), and your locker is stocked with the most delicious robe, towel, and a pair of sandals. The staff does an exceptional job of keeping every space spotless, from the showers to the changing areas, and the beauty area, which boasts high-end hair products and styling tools, as well as any items you may have forgotten, such as hair ties, brushes, sanitary products, and razors. The heart of the experience lies in the relaxation lounge, a true sanctuary featuring two infrared saunas, a traditional sauna, and two pristine cold plunges (at temperatures of approximately 44° and 54°). The sauna relaxes and detoxifies. It's hot, yes, but deeply calming, evoking memories of back when it was okay to bake in the sun at the beach. The cold plunge is undeniably cold, but not painful; it stings and serves as a bracing wake-up call to both the body and mind. Sink in swiftly, breathe with intention, and time moves faster than you think. The contrast between the two has been transformative for me, with improved circulation, enhanced mental clarity, better cardio performance, a more elevated mood, and faster muscle recovery. And when you think you've hit peak Bliss, there's the eucalyptus steam room, also the best I've ever experienced. Stepping into its warm, fragrant mist after contrast therapy feels like a hug for your entire body. I've also had the pleasure of getting to know Linda Townsend, the founder and president of Release, who leads by example and shares the space with members. Our conversations in the sauna, about health, balance, and life, are part of what keeps me coming back. Release is more than a wellness center. It's a community, and a true gem in the heart of Boston. Try their generous Bliss trial membership. You won't regret it!
