First Gelato ice cream in Florance, . And I would not have the creamery, cold ice cream any other way. The operation of Vivoli was quick and fast. And even though, there was a continuous long line, my husband and I didn't have to wait too long. I would say it took us 2 minutes from the time we stood in line to the time the employees provided us our ice cream. If you ever had some time to stop and grab a little dessert, try to check out Vivoli. read more

At the end of January I stopped by Vivoli Gelateria and saw they were closed for vacation...it almost broke my heart. But when I stopped by on a rainy night just last week, it was open! I got a cup with Fantasia, orange infused chocolate and rice (riso). It was heavenly ! read more

Want Gelato that'll make your toes curl and body tingle? Look no further than Vivoli! BEST GELATO IN ALL OF ITALY! We had gelato every night for the 12 nights we were in Italy. THIS PLACE was the best place we went to. My favorite was the Lemone. Not even a lemon person, but it was amazing. Banana was also very good. I know, weird flavored right?! Everything we had was delicious! read more

I know Americans get a bad rep in Europe but I wasn't expecting this sort of rudeness right off the bat. Vivoli was recommended to us by multiple friends who studied abroad in Florence. We HAD to try it! We forgot about the whole pay before you drool over Gelato flavors, and the lady serving was so rude to us in her response to pay first. Then when we were deciding she was visibly impatient (like anyone knows what flavor they're going to get when they walk in?! ) I asked if there was a coconut /chocolate combination that I had seen in other shops (my mom's favorite) and the server bit my head off saying that coconut and chocolate were not the same. (Obvi-duh!). Maybe she was having a bad day, but it really made for a bad experience. It seemed like basic gelato- €2 for a tiny. read more

Most famous Gelateria in Florence! This location was recommended by our Gate 1 Tour Manager and rightfully so! The place has a great value compared to some of the other locations we've been to (looking at you Pompeii charging €6 for 1 scoop). They also have seating in the back portion. We decided to take a break from walking all around the Florence and I accidentally told my SO I wanted the largest size and only saw the size of the €5 cup. That one probably holds about 5 scoops. Instead he got me the €10 cup which holds about 10 scoops! I should have picked more flavors and shared it with my SO instead of us each getting our own cup. Otherwise the variety of Gelato and quality were unparalleled. More details about Florence day trip: http://tinyurl.com/RBHFlorence read more

Great spot for authentic gelato. Was tricky to find but worth the trouble. Their fig gelato was a surprising star and complimented my chocolate cherry choice. Seemed to be a place frequented by locals buying larger take away containers, so it must have a good reputation for good gelato. Reasonable prices for Florence. read more

After seeing this gelato shop on somebody feed Phil/I'll have what Phil's having (I don't remember which one) I knew i had to stop here. I ended up coming to Vivoli three times even though it was a longer walk than many other shops. This place truly had the most incredible gelato I have ever had in my life and I wish I would have gone every day. I tried the following flavors: -Amaretto- this was my favorite flavor and I'm pretty sure I could eat 100 cups of it a day. It had the most beautiful amaretto flavor and was so creamy..I ended up getting this flavor every time I went -Crema-this is the most basic flavor of gelato and if a gelato shop can't get it right then nothing else would be good and this shop got it right! A delicious creamy gelato, simple and fresh -Raspberry mousse- wow this flavor was my second favorite to the amaretto! Incredible raspberry flavor, sweet and tart and light and fluffy like mousse Chocolate Hazelnut- this was also delicious and creamy. Hazelnut is one of my favorite flavors and this was a solid choice. Riso-this was the most unique flavor I tried. Made with rice milk and actual pieces of rice. It was a really light and fresh flavor. I enjoyed every single flavor and you could taste how fresh and authentic the ingredients were. When I go back to Florence next I will be back to have more! read more

Highly contentious opening - but this is the best gelato in Florence! Now I must qualify this by saying I like my gelato fruity, so the wild strawberry flavour offering was right up my alley. Putting it in your mouth transported you to a strawberry field in the hills, it was fresh, fully of flavour and the perfect texture. Vivoli is a little out of the way, but well worth the walk. read more

Netflix really is the Walmart of streaming services. What the hell does that statement have to do with a small gelato shop in Florence you ask? Well, I learned about Vivoli by typing Florence, Italy into said streaming service and up popped an episode of "I'll Have What Phil's Having." It's an Anthony Bordain-style food show featuring one of the writers from Everybody Loves Raymond as the host. Even though it may have been the worst food show ever produced, I gotta say they were spot on with this gelato pick. It was the first and by far the best place on our entire trip. Simple flavors like crema and plain chocolate were amazing. You don't need to go too nuts on weird stuff here. It's so silky smooth that you have to appreciate as close to al natural as possible. A few others have said that the staff was a little rude which I found to be true. Should not be factored in here though. After all, it's Europe. read more

Right along with your average gelato shop. Which isn't a bad thing, I've never had bad gelato. Great taste, gelato made every morning. BUT the hype around the place wasn't the experience I had. The woman who owned Vivoli honestly seemed annoyed that we were there, even though it was to give her our money. She scowled the entire time I tried to talk to her. And while the gelato was good, it wasn't anything better than my little gelato shop back home in Northern Italy. Glad I got to see what all the fuss (from Phil's Netflix special) was about, but this was a one and done kinda place for me. read more

I came here years ago when I was studying abroad and I still think about the gelato I had! It was orange and had bits of orange candy in it. It was the best gelato I tried while I was in Florence! read more

Ok, first off, it is good gelato, and there is simply no getting around that fact. All of its flavors are delicious and creamy, and I certainly believe that you shouldn't limit yourself to just one. Let's face it, gelato--next to art, pasta, and gorgeous women--may be one of Italy's better contributions to Western Civilization. However, to say that Vivoli has the best gelato in Florence is a bit of an overstatement. Now, don't get me wrong, it is fantastic, but over the years others have risen to challenge it for Gelato dominance. I think that a reader of Yelp needs to understand that everyone is told that this is the best gelato in Italy by someone who has been told by someone else that this was so. My suggestion is to try a few places and decide for yourself.... The worst that can happen is that gelato drunk and that isn't such a bad thing.. read more

Note - you need to pay first before you can pick up your ice cream. Go to the cashier to the right of the store the proceed with your receipt to the left side of the store. Gelato was really good. I had the mango, son had the nutella gelato, husband had the chocolate gelato. Nice and creamy and soooo good. read more

They have a decent variety of flavors, BUT they don't have cones!!! Who doesn't have cones!!!!? Their prices are decent. I got the 2 euro size cup with 2 flavors. The flavors got were chocolate orange, and some kind with rum in it. They were yummy but not my favorite. I can't say this is the BEST gelato I have ever had, but it was good. read more

What's left to say, after all that has been said?!!! Vivoli is a historic and long standing gelateria near Santa Croce. The workers might not be too nice or friendly, but if the gelato is flowing and delicious, then that's all I need. This is one of the best in town, in my opinion. Make sure you pay before at the counter....a little different than the U.S. Try Marengo and the Rum, both are very interesting and unique. The Chocolate Orange is also fantastic and tastes so fresh and so real. Bellissima! Enjoy!! read more

If you don't come here, you're doing Florence wrong. Now with Florence you get two different Gelato places to eat from. This being one of them. Walk in, pay at the register the size you want. Be Italian. Then walk over to the ice cream counter. Easy choices that are a delight. Cioccolato Rica and MilleFoglio. Which is like dark thick chocolate and a Millefiulle. These two flavors is all I need. You can also get a half kilo and full kilo to take with you ! All I can say is your welcome . read more

I've been here twice, once for their gelato and once for their semifreddo e millefoglie. Overall, I feel like I've encountered better gelato places but this one isn't bad. I tried their caffe mousse with the pear al caramello flavors and they were both really good. They have all your standard fruit and creamy flavors that you can find elsewhere as well. The smallest cup size is 2 euro and it isn't that big. What I don't really like this about this place is that they smooth out the gelato so that it's flat in the cup. I like the gelaterias that let their gelato mount in the cup. I tried their semifreddo e millefoglie which was pretty good. I don't think I'll get it again, but it was worth a try. read more

The gelato at Vivoli is amazing but the prices are a little higher than many places with great gelato. Also, the staff is on the snootier side so be aware of that! However, this place is a MUST when you're visiting Florence! My favorite flavors were lampone, riso (SO SO SO good), fragola, and so many others that I can't remember. It's really close to the Santa Croce church. read more

It's hard to find bad Gelato in Italy, but the BEST is generally NOT in the bigger cities like Florence, Rome, and Venice. Vivoli is an exception. I've eaten gelato and sorbet all over Italy, and the fruit flavors at Vivoli in particular are remarkably intense. That's not saying anything bad about the chocolates, either. They are great, as is the wonderful riso (rice) flavor, but Pera (pear) and Mertillo (blueberry) are my favorites here. In terms of intense fruit flavor, Vivoli rivals the best sorbets in Paris. read more

Saw great reviews about this place, and apparently on TripAdvisor this place is supposed to be one of the best gelaterias in the world, but actually didn't think it was that great...=/ First, I was disappointed they didn't have cones, only cups! I love the crunchy texture of the cone that contrasts with creamy ice cream, so this was already a bummer. I had the gianduja and black sesame flavors. The gianduja was good but not phenomenal. The black sesame was actually sort of watery - I think probably due to low turnaround on the ice cream. Probably not a lot of people eating Asian flavors in Europe. In fact, that's probably it...I sampled the green tea flavor and honestly it was pretty gross... Get cones please!!! It will help the business!! read more

Outstanding gelato shop in Florence! You have to try it! All their flavors are in italian, so if you aren't sure what something is, just ask. Sadly not impressed. When I say we literally dropped our bags off and RAN to Vivoli to ensure we would not miss them on our first day (because everyone told us to go EVERY day) I am not exaggerating. We watched Phil and made Vivoli our priority. Everyone in our family tried separate flavors so the variety of options was immense. The service made us feel as is we were not at all welcome, which shocked us. We only went one day while in Florence and discovered our own favorite spot across the bridge. read more

It took us a while to find this place and it made it even harder because there was a big truck parked in front of it, blocking our view. I looked through the choices of gelato and told the woman behind the counter what I wanted. She told me I would have to pay at the cash register first to get a ticket. So we did that and came back with our ticket. This made things kinda confusing and chaotic near the gelato counter. There were a lot of other people making the same mistake as I. It would be nice if they had signs posted letting people know how to properly get their gelato here. I got the fragole (strawberry) and caramel gelato in a small cup. The fragole was made with real strawberries, really fresh. The caramel was just alright. Just an OK place for gelato. read more

We've been in tuscany for 9 days now and this was the best gelato by far!! It was smooth and creamy with great flavor. I had the Riso (rice) flavored and it tasted like rice pudding. I wish I could go back and eat it every day. The service wasn't friendly but that's okay it has indoor seating and a decent cappuccino as well. The Hubs got caffe, chocolate riso, and the rum raisin flavors. All three were fantastic. I HIGHLY recommend coming here for gelato. Don't bother with gelato next to the Duomo. It's only okay and WAY overpriced. read more

Second trip....years later. Still the best gelato in Firenze for me. The pistachio is sublime!

Not the best gelato in Florence IMO as others have said. When I arrived, the store was filled with mosquitoes, including *inside* the refrigerator.. Secondly, the gelato in the refrigerator was flat. This should have been a sign. We purchased pistachio, hazelnut, strawberry and caffe. The gelato was extremely sweet (loaded with sugar) and watery. The gelato was not creamy and had no texture. Customer service wasn't welcoming as well. Very low on my gelato list. I do not recommend venturing out to taste this gelato spot. read more
