So after being in Italy two times on vacation and trying about many different gelato places, this one is hands down the best in Florence and probably all of Italy. I also read it is the oldest shop in the city as well, so that's really cool! There are different sizes you can choose from, and you can even order a baby size which is only like 2 Euros. They have many different flavors; my personal favorite is the chocolate mousse. It's even better than the chocolate and I loved the chocolate. My wife tried about 5 different kinds and loved all of them. You can even mix several different ones in one cup. The only downside to this place is that the staff isn't very friendly and can get frustrated with you if you don't speak much Italian or pay for a small amount with a card. Other than that, it's awesome! They also have pastries and sandwiches, different types of alcoholic drinks to make, and of course coffee. Oh man, Vivoli, you don't replace Perche No! in my heart, but you are a close second. Vivoli is a bit out of the way (depending on where you are staying in Firenze), but it's well worth the walk. You would NEVER find this place unless you were aimlessly wandering, because it's located in an area that has really nothing else around. You will know you're there when you see people standing in a line. I like this gelateria for many reasons, but I do have to say that my primary reason is because of the flavor variations. So many gelaterias have the basic flavors: stracciatella, pistachio, chocolate, nocciola, etc. I am in love with the millefoglie flavor here. If you have never had millefoglie in your life, you are missing out. They also have a case where you can get pastries, among them, slices of millefoglie. Love! Everything is made with real and fresh ingredients and you can taste the passion they put in making their gelato. Creamy, sweet and smooth...your taste buds will thank you for it. I looooove chocolate, hazelnut and Nutella - so, naturally, I got a scoop of cioccolato nocciolato and a scoop of nocciolato. You can see and taste real chunks of hazelnut. Most famous Gelateria in Florence! This location was recommended by our Gate 1 Tour Manager and rightfully so! The place has a great value compared to some of the other locations we've been to (looking at you Pompeii charging €6 for 1 scoop). They also have seating in the back portion. We decided to take a break from walking all around the Florence and I accidentally told my SO I wanted the largest size and only saw the size of the €5 cup. That one probably holds about 5 scoops. After seeing this gelato shop on somebody feed Phil/I'll have what Phil's having (I don't remember which one) I knew i had to stop here. I ended up coming to Vivoli three times even though it was a longer walk than many other shops. This place truly had the most incredible gelato I have ever had in my life and I wish I would have gone every day. I tried the following flavors: -Amaretto- this was my favorite flavor and I'm pretty sure I could eat 100 cups of it a day. It had the most beautiful amaretto flavor and was so creamy..I ended up getting this flavor every time I went -Crema-this is the most basic flavor of gelato and if a gelato shop can't get it right then nothing else would be good and this shop got it right! A delicious creamy gelato, simple and fresh -Raspberry mousse- wow this flavor was my second favorite to the amaretto! Incredible raspberry flavor, sweet and tart and light and fluffy like mousse Chocolate Hazelnut- this was also delicious and creamy. Hazelnut is one of my favorite flavors and this was a solid choice. Riso-this was the most unique flavor I tried. Made with rice milk and actual pieces of rice. It's an Anthony Bordain-style food show featuring one of the writers from Everybody Loves Raymond as the host. Even though it may have been the worst food show ever produced, I gotta say they were spot on with this gelato pick. It was the first and by far the best place on our entire trip. The workers might not be too nice or friendly, but if the gelato is flowing and delicious, then that's all I need. This is one of the best in town, in my opinion. I've been here twice, once for their gelato and once for their semifreddo e millefoglie. Overall, I feel like I've encountered better gelato places but this one isn't bad. I tried their caffe mousse with the pear al caramello flavors and they were both really good. They have all your standard fruit and creamy flavors that you can find elsewhere as well. The smallest cup size is 2 euro and it isn't that big. What I don't really like this about this place is that they smooth out the gelato so that it's flat in the cup. I like the gelaterias that let their gelato mount in the cup. I tried their semifreddo e millefoglie which was pretty good. I don't think I'll get it again, but it was worth a try. read more

I love the crunchy texture of the cone that contrasts with creamy ice cream, so this was already a bummer. I had the gianduja and black sesame flavors. The gianduja was good but not phenomenal. The black sesame was actually sort of watery - I think probably due to low turnaround on the ice cream. Probably not a lot of people eating Asian flavors in Europe.
