Gelato at its best! Delicious and smooth with outstanding flavors. Very crowded but worth the wait.

Our favorite gelato spot during our study abroad in Florence! It's tucked away on a quiet street and has such a homey and welcoming environment. The staff is super nice and their array of flavors is amazing! Everything tasted great and I am so glad my friend introduced me to this place!! I miss the gelato here and would highly recommend this to anyone in Florence! So much flavor and not too sweet! I don't know how to explain why but it simply is just the best!! read more

You know how most things taste EXTRA good when you're tired or hungry or both?? We came here on my sister's recommendation from TripAdvisor and an article in an airplane magazine where Judith Light described is as one of her favorite cheats or indulgences. This place is on a side street near a big piazza, not very easy to find. After hours traipsing the Uffizi, we needed a gelato lunch! We each got a large with 3 flavors. I believe mine were coffee, amaretto, and cherry. Like with most gelato places, you pay first then bring the receipt to the scooper. Instead of strolling with the food we sat inside, plenty of space, and enjoyed/relaxed. The flavors were awesome, so creamy! I wish they had bigger spoons, but cold treats were meant to be enjoyed one taste at a time. read more

After 10 days of traveling across Italy, Vivoli was the best gelato by far. Their pistachio and their rice gelato is sensational. There's nothing like those flavors anywhere in Italy and America. I'm tempted to come back to Florence sooner just for this gelato and a meal at Zeb, a mother-and-son run restaurant that you cannot miss. 5 stars!!!!!!! read more

Well, after seeing "I'll have what's Phil's having", Vivoli was bookmarked to try while in Firenze. They make their gelato from scratch in small batches every morning. I don't know how they manage to make something so simple taste so delicious, but they do! read more

Fabulous concert and beautiful venue. Thank you for a wonderful evening. Highly recommend.

When we travel we generally avoid going to the same place twice. Vivoli was the exception....we went three times. My wife loved the rice gelato. Imagine rice pudding but in gelato form. It was super unique and very good. She paired it with different options each time but liked the combo of rice and pistachio the most it seemed. Over our visits, I had the banana and chocolate chip, dark chocolate and orange, orange creme, lemon, and the caramelized pear, and the dark chocolate. The banana and the pear flavours were my best. The banana and chocolate had a great banana flavour to it. The caramelized pear was a bit sweeter and not as strong a fruit flavour. They made a great combo. All the flavours were good but those two were my favorites I will say, we also had a piadina one time. It wasnt great. Stick with the gelato. read more

Affogato (espresso with gelato) was amazing!! It's super small & really busy, so usually no where to sit.

The place looks closed but has a little hole in the wall for ordering. We ordered affogato and its coffee is good but the gelato tastes a bit icy. read more

Wow...the affogato. Again..a must visit in Florence. I learned they have a location in Disney Springs in Orlando...so anyone in the area there should take a visit. The affogato I had was truly exceptional - the velvety espresso poured over the creamy gelato created a harmonious blend of bitter and sweet flavors. The experience was elevated further when I tried the rice gelato. Its unique texture and delicate taste made it a standout dessert. It was a delightful culinary adventure that I would recommend to any dessert enthusiast. read more

Got the espresso with icecream. It was very delicious but I honestly this it's a little overpriced for 6 euros. Also got the large cup of gelato. Tried the rice, stratcietella, pistachio, and hazelnut. All flavors were amazing and the gelato was very creamy and delicious. Definitely would go back. There's a long line but it moves very quick. Definitely the best gelato I've had during my Italy trip.. read more

Learned about this Gelateria from I'll Have What He's Having and was excited to try. Waited in line, not knowing they were now TikTok famous for their beautiful affogato. For gelato this place is mid. You can get way better gelato in florence but i do like the coffee gelato, it's more unique but the gelato is mid. The service was bad. lines out the door and a confusing ordering process. The store looked cool and the line looked interesting but it still wasn't great. read more

Traveled to Florence for the first time and came across this place, called Florence's best affogato all over social media, and it lived up to the hype! Very beautiful presentation and the taste of their slightly bitter coffee with sweet gelato was brilliant! My parents (who have never tried affogatos) were hesitant to try it, but ended up all loving it as well! Only con would be it is a bit pricier for the amount and size (6 euros). However, I think it is well worth a try, especially if you're looking to explore Italian cuisine. read more

They dont sell cones. I enjoyed the pistachio and yogurt flavors but wasn't the best I had.

I went to Vivoli after seeing a segment in I'll have what Phil's Having. Cute shop, delicious gelato. Like Phil said they use " the right egg, the right mil, the right sugar, the right machine, the right weather, the right lady doing it.....it's like art work" . He is right, it's art work. The gelato was delicious and creamy. I went at night and the shop was busy. I guess the shop is a classic in Florence. I'll always stop there for a gelato when I go to Florence and highly recommend anyone is Florence to try it. read more

If you are going to try gelato - you should do it in Florence where it was created. And this particular shop has been open since 1930. They have upwards of 20 flavors and small servings starting at €2 to upward of €6 depending on your appetite. I tried the chocolate and hazelnut in a small cup and both flavors were so creamy and fresh. This place does get a bit busy at times but does have some tables, free WiFi, and a restroom in the back of the shop. All in all - a must in Florence! read more

Best gelato in Florence! Good selection of flavors. I dare you to get the biggest size they offer!

Classic gelato shop with lots of history. Food/Drink: This was on a lot of people's must visit list simply for its rich history in the gelato world. The shop has more than just gelato though, including a wide range of traditional italian desserts. We got the small cup with strawberry sorbet and dark chocolate. The chocolate was super rich and had a bitterness that didn't make it too sweet to eat, while the strawberry was light and refreshing - perfect for a hot day. Price: Even though most review websites said this place was more expensive, we found it pretty comparable to other gelato shops in the area, we only paid 2.50 euro for our small cup. Atmosphere: Locals and tourists alike flock to this place for its old school charm and classic flavors! read more

We've pretty much had gelato for breakfast, lunch and dinner since arriving in Venice a few days ago. The combination I usually go for is dark chocolate and some kind of tart fruit. I just love the contrast of sweet and sour. What I stay away from is cherry flavors because it always almost taste like pepto to me. Since Vivoli was highly recommended and dubbed as the birth place of gelato, I was pretty excited. I got the small cup for 2.5 euros and chose chocolate amarena (black cherry) and mango. I must say, the flavors are superb. You can tell real fruits were used to make these creamy goodness. There were also whole black cherries mixed in the chocolate gelato which made me real happy. We've travelled our way down Italy and tried so many my tongue has frostbites but by far Vivoli has the best gelato flavors in my book. read more

4.5 stars rounded up for one of a number of excellent gelaterias in Florence. The pistachio was one of the best I've ever had and the hazelnut was top notch as well. Conversely, I found the dark chocolate a tad overpowering...which says a lot coming from a chocolate fiend. Do note that you pay up front a given size at the register prior to selecting your flavors. Sadly, this was the only place we visited that didn't serve gelato in any cones. read more

Oh man, Vivoli, you don't replace Perche No! in my heart, but you are a close second. Vivoli is a bit out of the way (depending on where you are staying in Firenze), but it's well worth the walk. You would NEVER find this place unless you were aimlessly wandering, because it's located in an area that has really nothing else around. You will know you're there when you see people standing in a line. I like this gelateria for many reasons, but I do have to say that my primary reason is because of the flavor variations. So many gelaterias have the basic flavors: stracciatella, pistachio, chocolate, nocciola, etc. I am in love with the millefoglie flavor here. If you have never had millefoglie in your life, you are missing out. They also have a case where you can get pastries, among them, slices of millefoglie. Love! Lots of places to sit inside and enjoy, but I chose to sit outside and enjoy the fresh air and people watch. Prices are comparable to most other gelaterias, too. Nothing fancy here even though they have a reputation. Don't miss out when you're in Firenze! read more

Close to a touristy spot, you have to go through the right alley to find the best gelato you'll ever have in your whole life. Everything is made with real and fresh ingredients and you can taste the passion they put in making their gelato. Creamy, sweet and smooth...your taste buds will thank you for it. Check out their pistachio gelato, the color isn't as green as the ones you find in the US. I looooove chocolate, hazelnut and Nutella - so, naturally, I got a scoop of cioccolato nocciolato and a scoop of nocciolato. You can see and taste real chunks of hazelnut. My life will never be the same. The storefront isn't fabulous and it doesn't have to be. There are tables and chairs inside or you can sit in front of the small church across Vivoli. Next time I come back to Firenze, I'll pick a hotel nearby so I can eat the best gelato in the world for breakfast, lunch and dinner every single day. read more

Best gelato and service in Florence! We went to multiple gelato places on our trip and this place FAR exceeds them all. Their affogato is absolutely insane. So rich, creamy, with the best quality espresso. We also got cups of three flavors each and each one was beyond incredible. I will dream about this place forever. It was more than worth the wait in the heat. The line actually went so fast. About 10 mins and gelato in hand. read more

So after being in Italy two times on vacation and trying about many different gelato places, this one is hands down the best in Florence and probably all of Italy. I also read it is the oldest shop in the city as well, so that's really cool! There are different sizes you can choose from, and you can even order a baby size which is only like 2 Euros. They have many different flavors; my personal favorite is the chocolate mousse. It's even better than the chocolate and I loved the chocolate. My wife tried about 5 different kinds and loved all of them. You can even mix several different ones in one cup. The only downside to this place is that the staff isn't very friendly and can get frustrated with you if you don't speak much Italian or pay for a small amount with a card. Other than that, it's awesome! They also have pastries and sandwiches, different types of alcoholic drinks to make, and of course coffee. I will miss going here as it was just down the street from where we were staying. If we are ever back in Florence, I will come here for sure! read more

Sweet! The classic. Hasn't changed in 40 years or perhaps more. If you're in Florence, don't fail to stop in here. Many say this is the best gelato - certainly could be true, but this is the only place I go to, so I won't tell you that. Hidden away on Via Stinche, perhaps my favorite lane in Florence. They do have a "baby" size gelato (mere 2 Euro), definitely the way to go, combine 2 choices, it's, as they say, "as good as it gets!" read more

Loved the gelato, the annoyed lady at the counter not so much. I came for the experience of trying the oldest gelato in Florence. I was so excited, yet was disappointed at the lack of patience in the lady to serve gelato to my party of 9. I'm sorry, but we don't know what flavors you have and it will take a minute to decide. Melon teas the book "from scratch " said it was the best gelato she ever had, me, too!

This place was recommended to us for their fruit gelatos and they did not disappoint. I had the melon and lemon and they were sublime. Very thick but not creamy. Extremely flavorful.
