I've lived in my new hair for a month now and my feelings from when I first left the salon haven't changed, 100% not worth the $164. I have long dark brown hair, I went in for platinum blonde (or as light as she could get my dark hair) peekaboo highlights on the underside of my hair, sent 3 pictures for inspo, my hair didn't turn out like the pictures at all. When I got home and could examine my hair closer in my own mirror and was getting ready to take pictures for instagram I noticed that my hair was uneven and brassy in some areas and some product (shampoo? Idk) had been left on the roots of my hair so I showered and rewatched my hair, making sure everything was washed out. I reached out to the salon, they were very kind and I was able to get in quickly to touch up the uneven part and here's where it gets funny. My mom pointed out to me that my hair is still uneven, I didn't believe her but sure enough it is. Despite my hair being toned a total of 3 times throughout this process I still have brassy pieces. When I went back in a second time for the touch up I felt like I was being rushed, she didn't have the care or attentiveness she had in my initial appointment. She used the wrong toner or something? So she washed it out and put a new one in which turned my hair purple, I live with a blond mom I understand the purple will wash out this was fine, but instead of my hair being platinum blonde it is now silver and it has stayed a silver gray color and you can barely tell I got the peekaboo, when I put it up however at the roots it's got brassy streaks and doesn't look appealing. I understand my stylist said that if I wasn't happy after the purple washed out she would redo it but honestly after messing up twice, I think I'll save my time and go elsewhere. I have had this hair style before in the past and it looked great, I don't know what happened this time. Even with my hair down my hair looks uneven, one side goes up higher than the other. $164 down the drain read more

Being a dude, I'm not really familiar with boutique salons for women. I do know the cost of my bitchin' haircut at Sports Clips however, and compared to the the cost of my cut hers was surprisingly affordable. Especially as she went from long hair to sort of a bob cut with an Anime character photo for reference, and without batting an eye her stylist got to cutting. It looked super cute when he was done and she has had a consultation as well in preparation for having it dyed in a few weeks. The wife assured me the estimated price for the dye job was right in line with what other salons charge. Not having ever having my own hair dyed, I was a bit taken aback by it until I remembered the last time she tried it herself. My bathtub is still pink to this day. She also said she loved the personality of her stylist and the overall feel of the place was great. I believe she said something to the effect that if I ever tried to take her to a Supercuts again she would stop speaking to me. read more

I love the stylists here, especially Joy. She has been doing my hair throughout her apprenticeship and has gained so much skill from all the training the salon has provided her. Joy also did my wedding hair which turned out phenomenal (I couldn't figure out how to attach a picture in this review but I uploaded it to the photos).The salon is very well versed in the newer styles/trends and have a lot of experience with different techniques. The salon and stylists know what they are doing and treat you with such respect. I also recently had my hair trimmed as well and it was just the right amount of hair, not too much (sometimes stylists take off too much) and I LOOK GREAT. Definitely recommended if you are in the area or looking for a new salon. This is the place to go, just call ahead since they do require appointments :) read more

I love this salon and my experience has overall been good. But. Don't go to Angela if you have curly hair. She says she's the curly hair stylist but she has no idea what she's doing. She randomly chopped up my hair and it looked so bad. I just wanted layers and idk what the heck she did. I was very positive about it when I was there but once I got home and looked at it more it was sooo uneven and messy. The left side was noticeably shorter than the right. I'll probably never go there again because I'll feel bad if she sees me using another stylist lol. read more

This is the BEST salon! Atmosphere is comfortable, and inviting. They have a lounge area in back that offers beverages and snacks. The thing that really stands out is the culture, all the stylists seem to genuinely like each other, which is so refreshing. I used to have a great stylist at ViVo, and when she left, they put me with Angela. I have curly hair. I gave her 3 chances and each time the cut was worse than the last. She used no technique, just randomly chopped at my hair and cut it when dry. I told her no one has ever cut my hair like that she said, "You have to be creative with curly hair". When she finished moving around my head randomly chopping, she said, "Do you see anything sticking out?" I told her that was her job. She didn't measure strands and my hair is lopsided and choppy. I have long resisted writing this review but I feel that it would be useful to people since not all things are rosy in Vivo-land. I have been going to Tim for several year because he is good at the basic layered haircut. So it was a no-brainer to book him for a cut and updo for my wedding. Big mistake. Tim, as usual, was running late so I had to remind him that I also booked a haircut and not just an updo. He barely glanced at the picture I had in mind and I again had to redirect him and explain that in the picture, the hairstyle has bangs - like me. Tim did such a poor job with the updo that I walked out crying. It was lopsided, there were strands of hair coming out and the updo didn't last long. I had to have my maid of honor use a ton of bobby pins to keep it from sliding down and become an even bigger mess. In fact, you can see the downward progress of the hair in the wedding pictures as the night progresses. Tim knew that he messed because he offered to redo the updo but I didn't have the time because at that point, I was running late and have had my hair pulled in every direction for over an hour. In his defense, Tim did not charge me for the haircut or the style. The haircut did fare well either. Tim barely cut my split ends - probably because of being late - and did not even touch the layers. I was incredibly mad at the whole situation and asked the owner to fix it. She wouldn't return my messages so I went to the salon in person and asked her to please fix this. She kept telling me that she is not technically responsible for Tim since he is an independent contractor and so on but finally agreed to fix it. Yeah, I should have just gone somewhere else. I'm not sure what happened or where she went to beauty school, but this woman put one layer about halfway down my hair which literally split my hair half. This was probably the single worst haircut I have gotten in my whole life. I kept thinking that my hair will grow out and get better but somehow this haircut keeps getting worse and worse. Because of that top layer, my head looked square and bulky. In fact, when I went to a different place to have my hair cut, the stylist burst out laughing at how poorly cut and layered my hair was. You know whoever cut your hair did a poor job when a stylist asks you if you cut your bangs yourself because they were cut at such a bizarre angle. I ended up losing several inches in length when recutting the hair to try to blend in that damn layer to the rest of my hair. Yes, any cut can look nice when you walk out of salon because a professional styled but the true test and quality of a cut shows when you have to style it yourself. This cut unfortunately did not stand up to any standard. So if you think about going to Vivo, consider this: If you're looking for a one-trick-pony, typically boxy Springfield cut, this is your place. But if you are looking for quality, innovation and a place where the stylists care about your hair, stay as far away as possible. read more

I have been with Tim at Vivo for over ten years. I originally got set up with him at his old salon as a broke college student who wanted one good cut and then thought I would be able to go back to cheap salons. I couldn't stop. With that being said, as expensive as it seemed in college (Taco Bell was expensive!), when I tell people how much I pay, they are shocked how affordable it is compared to other salons. The stylists and owner at Vivo become like family and are so much fun and welcoming. And, it doesn't hurt that it's gorgeous. I can honestly say in the ten years I've been with Tim, I have had very limited control over what happens to my hair. To me, that is a good thing. He knows what works with my hair and face better than me, and so I let him work his magic. He is the professional. From the first cut and color, my unmanageable hair become something people complimented me on. I trust Tim completely. He gets to know his clients and their personality, where they work, what they are comfortable with, etc. At this point, I don't even ask what he's doing. I don't know what colors he's mixed, what cut he has in mind, and it's always a surprise when I turn around. Some people might not be comfortable with this, and I'm sure he tells them more. I just know whatever he decided is probably better for me than what I could think up. I get super nervous in other stylist's chairs (getting styled for friends' weddings) and they always compliment me in my cut or color! I have referred many friends to Vivo stylists (on Tim's recommendation on their hair type and such) and am happy to say they all return. This is way long, but after 10 years it's hard to write a concise review. Bottom line, if Tim quit cutting hair tomorrow, I would trust my hair with anyone at Vivo. ... But I really hope he doesn't. :) read more

It's been nearly a year living in Springfield and yet to find a great hair designer. Upon antiquing last week - Timothy Weber @ Vivo Modern Hair Salon was highly recommended by a Managing Director of Artifacts and Antiques. After reading Ellen H's review posted on Yelp's review 12/31/12 and her " negative review and rants ", one would be hesitant in making an appointment. After forty two years in corporate retail in Store Design / Fashion and traveling the best boutiques and stores in the world - my intuition was to book the appointment with Timothy. The minute I walked into Vivo Salon with my best friend Craig, we were warmly greeted by Lori Beard the Proprietor and Stylist Timothy Weber as if we were invited to their house for dinner. The salon is decorated very stylishly, warm, and very today as if you were in a Paris or London hair salon. Not only is Timothy a great Interior Designer as I did my research prior ...... reading an wonderful article about him in 417 Magazine [ February 2011 Issue ] - but a professional talented Stylist with great attention to details, the cut, the flow, and helpful hair suggestions. Not only did I get a " great haircut and style " but a wonderful, enjoyable experience and afternoon at Vivo Modern Hair Salon ! I have gone to Tim at Vivo for as long as Vivo has existed and even before that. Personally, I feel he's the best stylist. He always listens to what I want and suggests what would look good. He's fun and is very talented in his craft. The other stylists at the salon are full of talent and very friendly. The salon itself is very pretty and decorated very well and you can tell that the owner Lori, takes great care of it. She is also a great person and a great stylist. Everyone that works there has a great passion for what they do. They often go for continuing education to learn new techniques and tools. I've recommended a lot of my friends to go there and they are all in love with the stylists they have. I've recently moved from Springfield, but guess what, I still go to Vivo to get my hair done! Love Vivo! I've been going to Tim at Vivo for about 5 years--along with about a dozen of my close friends. He's actually won over my entire family--my three kids and my husband. I'm very particular about my hair--the color is superb and the cuts are always exactly what I wanted--or more! Like other reviewers, I always receive many compliments on my cut and color. I really appreciate everyone at the salon--the owner, the other stylists and the girls at the front as they are all welcoming and friendly especially the times when I have to haul my kids in with me when I need a quick cut. I visited Vivo Salon and made an appointment w/ Shauna. She arrived 10 minutes late and did not bother to apologized when she greeted me. CUT - she completely chopped the left side of my hair and left the right side long. DRY - she left my hair frizzy b/c she did not round-brush, even after i said I usually round-brush my own hair. WAX - she didn't bother tweezing or trimming my eyebrows, just ran one strip of wax on each side and tried to dismiss me. I asked her to clean them up a bit but her efforts were worthless.
