Finding a new hair stylist can be scary. I've had my fair share of bad hair experiences. With that said, I am over-the-moon thrilled that I found Ashley W. at Studio 417 Salon. Firstly, the salon itself is so clean, aesthetically pleasing, and welcoming. I felt at-ease as soon as I walked through the doors. I was impressed by the amount of sanitation and precautions the salon took, in light of COVID-19. The salon currently requires all visitors to come alone and to wear a mask. Each of the stylists also had masks. It was pretty cool to see the care the staff put into keeping the salon pristine. It appeared that they completely sanitized each station after use. Back to the hair itself -- I think pictures will do more justice than my words. I gave Ashley an idea of what I wanted, and she completely nailed it! She was super quick with the balayage technique, which turned out so natural and beautiful looking. She was also easy to talk to. I felt like we'd been longtime friends by the time my appointment was over. Another thing I appreciated was that I was periodically asked if I wanted something to drink while I was getting my hair done. Excellent hospitality! This salon and stylist Ashley absolutely deserve 5-stars. I feel pampered and excited about my new hair! had heard amazing things about this salon and about stylist Holly -- plus another stylist my mom had seen in the past and absolutely loved. So naturally, I went in with high standards... especially since this place markets itself as a "luxury" salon. I walked in and was greeted by a beautiful, architectural space with a great flow. Stunning. Promising. And then there was Brittany at the front desk -- an absolute gem. Honestly, she is the only reason this review even gets two stars. She personally earns five. Holly, however, earns a solid negative score, and I'm being generous. Holly walked up, gave me a once-over, and let out a very obvious, very audible sigh of disappointment -- the kind of sigh that clearly said, "Oh great... just a haircut... long hair... she's probably not buying products." I was confused. I mean... I walked in with a designer purse, luxury jeans, jewelry, the whole ensemble. If she was judging, she judged completely wrong. I wouldn't have pegged myself as "a waste of her time," but apparently, Holly has a sixth sense for bad attitude. She never offered me wine, coffee, or even water -- which, for a luxury salon, is basically the bare minimum. When I mentioned I just wanted a haircut instead of the deep conditioning treatment and didn't want the full color glaze, she cut me off immediately. Full attitude. Full irritation. Like my hair choices were personally affecting her rent payment, and she'd be evicted. I told her I didn't want color anymore --just a pearl iridescent clear glaze -- and explained that I'd already done a hair mask. She then brought her assistant over, and the two of them started chatting with eachother like they were in high school, making it very clear they had zero interest in talking to me. Which is wild, because let's be honest, ladies: half the reason we go to a salon is to gossip and vent a little. Then, as they were walking toward the back room, the assistant politely asked if she should stay with me or get me anything. Holly literally replied, "Not for this type of customer. Don't waste your time." Excuse me? What type of customer? The type who usually drops $700 once a year, comes in every 6 weeks for trims and treatments, and gets an Ouidad haircut every 60-75 days? The type who just didn't put on makeup today because it gets destroyed during hair washes anyway? Make it make sense. I was blown away by the disrespect. I ended up buying a bunch of products -- but I made absolutely sure the receptionist got the credit, because Holly deserved nothing from me except maybe spiritual reflection and a customer service workshop. Honestly, I would've gotten better service from an inmate in jail detoxing and bargaining for a honey bun in exchange for trimming my split ends. read more

I received the most Horrible hair cut and highlight ever and I would like a refund 08/31/2026

Really disappointed. This place will scam you!!! I paid $700+ for 20-inch, 145g KOVI Genius hair and about $1,500 total with installs, corrections, products, and tips. I repeatedly asked for more fullness/side volume but was met with pushback / attitude from Audrey (my assigned stylist) every time, and ended up with only 1 row and 5 I-tips. I was never shown the original packaged hair, receipts, or even the back of my head after installs, so I had no way to confirm what was actually used and what I paid for ! When I went to pick up my leftover hair, I was handed one small curved piece that is lighter in density, and doesn't match the color of what's in my head. The color installed also does not blend well at all with my natural hair color. Overall, I left every appointment feeling uncomfortable and confused, with no clarity on what hair was installed or what happened to the rest of what I paid for. Upon emailing the business my concerns, their response was that my hair was matted at my move up appointment (am I not paying them to maintain my hair and fix it?) and that all hair is correct and was returned. For three years I have been searching for 'my salon' and 'my hair gal' as a transplant from California and I have found it here!! I really love the vibe in the salon, my girl, Neeley, is super cute, warm and friendly, knowledgeable and experienced, and got me dolled up and ready in no time. The prices were reasonable and par for the course when getting a cut and a vital shot that my hair desperately needed! My hair looks and feels great and back to feeling normal as the shift from the environment in CA to MO is very different-hello humidity and heat/cold!! I waited over 20 minutes for the appointment once I got there on time. Shampoo was nothing special. Haircut was almost nonexistent; trimmed the length (had to ask to have more trimmed), she took a total of 3 more cuts (honestly) and she called it good. NOT a cut at all. Dried my hair and took one swipe down each side of my face to finish the "cut". The whole experience was less than I've ever had, including at a school. She did SO much talking to the other stylist (nonstop) and it was such a horrible experience from START to FINISH. I went home and cut my hair myself. I love Studio 417. Their new salon on National & Republic is gorgeous and they've added some cool amenities with the 417 Body (laser hair removal, wax, chem peels) and the dry bar. My stylist is Ashley Gee and I love her! She makes great conversation and always knows what I'm trying to explain in regards to the color / style. I came in to get ombre well unfortunately the hair stylist Amanda butchered my hair, my hair was supposed to go from my normal hair color(dark brown to blonde) well instead she decided to only do half of my hair but also turn my hair orange and went up more with the highlights than I showed her, I showed her multiple pictures of OMBRE. Let's just say I paid 300 for some orange hair and for it to be done however she wanted and she charged me for FOILAGE when I showed and told her OMBRE!! and they refused to fix it or give my money back. I didn't check Yelp before coming here. I should have. Called asked for a stylist who is really good with color. I could wait for an appointment there is no hurry. Offered an appointment with Daniel tomorrow. Should not have taken that appointment. I am very displeased to say the least. Paid $125 for a cut and color which now needs to be fixed. I have light reddish hair at the base and dark brown hair crown. Since when is the roots lighter? I need to wear a beanie or hat to cover it. The so called cut, well he trimmed it about an inch or so in back by combing it down and cutting it, not touching my hair. Hence its uneven now. The sides, he kinda pulled them up and out and snipped at them. I looked online under "color" & seen levels. I should have been told about "level" as I thought it meant the color level. You know the permanent part of coloring. Nope. It's stylist experience. Daniel was said not to be a beginner. However I was told he is level 3. RUN FROM LEVEL 3. I really wanted to be happy, and when I walked out, I thought I was. My stylist was friendly and seemed well qualified. However, here is what I have experienced since leaving: 1) seeing uneven front sections of the cut when it was my turn to style it, (frustrating since the purpose of the cut was to shorten the back, which I wanted cut even to the longest part of the front, only now to have the longest section in the front, and longer on the left than on the right) 2) having paid $25 for a bottle of hairspray that doesn't hold my hair more than a couple of hours, and 3) emailing the manager to send a question to my stylist (whose direct email is not on the website) but still not having heard back four days later from either the manager or stylist. Yes, I could have called, but frankly at that moment, it was easier for me to keep the irritation out of my voice by emailing, and their lack of timely response hasn't lessened my irritation. (I live an hour away, so popping in was not a viable option.) As a result, it is hard to feel happy a week later. I am a former worker. The double bookers are suppose to tip out their assistants. They do not do that. I asked for clarification from the owner about the tip out system and how it works. She told me to ask the double booker what I can do to earn it, very insulting because I did earn it. I did what the owner said and the double bookers response was 'oh I venmo' she doesnt venmo and didnt answer the question what I can do to earn it bc I did earn it. The following day two of the double bookers were talking about me and the situation VERY LOUDLY. One of the double bookers is known to be problematic. She made my shift that day very uncomfortable. I assisted her and she talked badly about me to her clients. One of her clients 'tossed' her water cup while making eye contact with me knowing im going to have to pick it up. The entitlement from clients was real, YOU DONT TREAT 'THE HELP' LIKE THIS. I decided to put my two weeks in. I did that on the following tuesday. I was supposed to work thursday and I was unable to log into the system. I noticed the owner, problematic stylist, and floor manager unfriended me on facebook. Not once did I receive a phone call or text about not needing me for thursday. This work lacks communication and treats their hourly staff horrible. Support another small business. read more

When looking for a salon I look for a good, knowledgeable stylist as well as a relaxing experience. My stylist was alright but nothing exceptional, she didn't achieve what I was wanting but it didn't look horrible. She wasn't friendly and she was hiding behind the wall when I was paying to listen in to how much I tipped her. I really didn't like that. This was my first time ever going there which they offer a 20% off your first visit and the stylist didn't want to give that to me until I asked the cashier and told her it was my first time. I had to come back 4 times for and my hair is still messed up! The 1st time my color faded in 4 days from red to orange (higlights). Cam back that week and the red only lasted 1 1/2 weeks. So I was told red wasn't working for my hair so she lightened it instead and the light hights tuurned out horrible within 2 weeks(charged me a 2nd time) and the dark color was completed faded. 3 of the 4 times were not by a senior stylist. They are very sweet ladies however they could not get my color right. I called for a refund and was offered to be seen by a senior stylist because they could not issue me a refund (because it had been too long since original visit). She did an all around dark with deep red accents and the color faded in 2 weeks and the light highlights were back(supposed to last 6-8 weeks)! Mac was very sweet and attentive, however did not get my hair right. I called to speak to the manager and she was very abrasive and claimed I was taking advantage of her salon! I got my hair highlighted and cut at this salon. It was the worse highlight I have ever had. I paid $240 (after a 20% tip). Once I got home I realized once I pulled my hair back you could see little gray hairs still. My daughter tried another lady there and had another bad experience. She asked for an Ombre. The lady just put the highlights about 1/2 inch from her scalp and you can see one straight line about 1/2 inch from her scalp on day 1 of paying top dollar ($140). They do not have talent there but charge higher than anyone else around. I had to pay to get my hair redone at a different salon only a week after spending $240. Beware of the lighting in there and be sure to check your hair before you leave. They are unskilled. I tried to call the manager but the salon told me to send an email. No customer service to boot! I called my regular stylist & she said it sounds like the stylist was giving you a silver blonde. I told her my hair feels like straw. Less than an hour later and $150 (plus tip) I was out the door, and looked the same as if I had used mascara. Called management, a "complimentary" redo was scheduled, but guess what. Miraculously the day of my redo she had to go into quarantine. So $180 later I have no eyelashes. Lesson learned. Don't waste your money or time on this snobby, overpriced salon. I've always dealt with frizzy, thick, wavy hair. I found Studio 417 on Instagram a little over two years ago, which also came with my first helpful haircut! Since my first Ouidad haircut with David, I finally have a cut the actually works for my hair. I've since moved 10 hours away, but have traveled back to have my hair done by David (because he is that good!). I typically visit a different salon in Springfield, but they happened to be completely booked when I had a catastrophic hair accident happen. I attempted to bleach my own (dark) roots at home, & was left completely at a loss when my hair came out totally uneven orange & yellow -- no toner I tried at home helped. Desperate, I called Studio 417 to see if there was any chance someone could help me. Katrina happened to have a cancellation in between other client appointments. She graciously accepted my plea for help & got me in within 3 hours of me calling. After a consult, she decided it would be best to continue the bleaching process & then tone the hair, all the while nourishing my damaged hair & scalp. She had booked me just for a simple glaze, but after seeing the damage, took the extra time to make sure my hair was fixed & fixed RIGHT. Out of this appointment, I was just hoping for an even color all over. What I ended up leaving with left me speechless. I have never seen such a beautiful blonde on my own head. She absolutely worked a miracle on my head, & I cannot believe she was able to pull out a favorable result, much less one that I was completely happy with! I no longer am looking for a follow-up appointment to get my hair back to normal, because Katrina fixed my hair & then gave me a beautiful result as well. If I could give more than 5 stars I would. She squeezed me in, meanwhile helping her other regularly scheduled clients, & gave me a beautiful head of hair. I am floored by her talent & work!! I will be back! read more

First off, I really wanted to like studio 417. When I walk in, I'm in heaven! It's beautiful. I feel comfy and its styled to my own dreams. I have been seeing Jennifer who does my eyelash extensions for three months now. She is by far the sweetest, most kind, PROFESSIONAL person in that place (probably one of the few). If this review was about her, she would get 10 stars because she is just.that.awesome. She is the only reason why I will continue to go here. You go, Jennifer! You're an angel. I actually believe in building businesses up and leaving raving reviews if they do something right. Unfortunately, my time at this salon has been ruined by multiple bad experiences. After I walk in, it quickly turns from heaven to hell. Therefore, if you make it through this novel of a review, I promised you won't be disappointed by the unprofessional and carefree behavior of this salon. A few weeks back, I had an appointment for my lashes. I arrived ten minutes early because I actually respect people's time (unlike this salon). I was checked in as usual and went back to wait in the waiting area. I receptionist walked by 5 minutes later and said "You said your name was Katarina, right?" WRONG! Maybe you should have checked me in when you said you did. I've worked reception in a salon and I know how easy it is to press 3 buttons and check someone in. Once I waited for 45 minutes (30 minutes into my appointment) I went back to the front desk. After I told another receptionist my name she goes "you don't have any appointments today!" I explained to her that I work night shifts as a nurse and woke up specifically for this and that I don't understand why I was allowed to sit back there for 45 minutes with no appointment. She goes "we had a Sara Olson that called and cancelled lashes for today because she said she didn't book an appointment..." My name isn't Sara. It doesn't even begin with S. My last name in their computer isn't Olson, it's still in there as my maiden name. And to top it all off, once I told her my first name, it wasn't even in the computer right either... and I've been going here for 3 months. Sheesh. Can we talk about incompetent? SO I left, with only an "I'm sorry, it was a misunderstanding." and not even an offer if they could do anything to make it better. I had an appointment on Tuesday of this week for lashes and hair. I thought it was weird that I only got a confirmation text about my lashes (given, this was more than I got before!) and not about hair. I called just to confirm. I spoke with Hannah, the owner of the salon. She goes "for your hair, we actually switched you stylists because we FIRED your stylist." First off, isn't this against policy? Secondly, this was the most unprofessional move ever as the owner of a business. There is a professional way to explain this to me. How about saying "unfortunately, your stylist is no longer with us"? Lastly, I don't need to know this information and why would you ever tell your clients this? It just sounds catty and petty to me and to the many people I've told. I don't own my own large business, but I'm at least smart enough to not say that to a client. If you're waiting for this story to die down, don't yet! We're just getting to the good stuff. She told me that they had tried to call me last Tuesday and left me a voicemail to let me know. I asked her for a time and she said around 3. I scrolled through my calls and voice mails only to find nothing. I told her I was sorry but I didn't get a call. Upon telling her this she said "Well, I'm not going to sit here and argue with you about whether we called or not." When was I ever trying to argue? I was only trying to be a HUMBLE human being and apologize if she had tried to call me. While they did give me a complementary service, that wasn't the reason why I called at all. I told her about my previous experience with my last appointment and she told me that she didn't know anything about it. You could tell, she was busy and only trying to shove something free in my face to band-aid the situations that have occurred and get off the phone. She did tell me I was pleasant though, so my verbal must have been brilliant regardless of what my nonverbal and what I really wanted to say was. Upon talking to other people who also go here for services, they have stated the same thing. Multiple times. So it isn't just some grouchy, night nurse writing a horrible review on a bad business, it seems to be a common trend. I could have just written a simple "don't go here. it's unprofessional." but what fun is that? Again, I love Jennifer and I told the ambience this salon has to offer, but I'm not on board with unprofessional and prideful ways. If Jennifer didn't make my eyes look like a goddess, I would find elsewhere to spend our money. read more

I have been going to see Jared there for almost 2 years. I can't even begin to explain how amazing he is! His ability to work with naturally curly hair is impeccable. He has a wonderful easy-going personality and is a delight to visit with. I have seriously wavy/curly hair and always want a haircut that isn't difficult to maintain. He can cut and style my hair to MY specifications and to help ME be able to maintain it and keep it looking good. Not many stylists can do that. SEE JARED. HE IS AMAZING. :) The salon is not overwhelmingly spacious but very classy and the decor and vibe is very nice. The other people who work there are always very friendly to me and in the past whenever I've ever had a problem (just once) the owner contacted me and sorted it out with a free haircut. The ambiance was very nice. Not too upscale. I have been there 3 times. First granddaughter. Was told different rate 3 times. Owner there and she changed the price I had originally. Her haircut was screwy once she washes her hair. Second time granddaughter again. Told us her haircut would be considered an adult price if they had to wash hair. They should have been up front about this. Haircut was cute. I got my first haircut there and loved it. Went back over the weekend and had a really horrific hair cut. I will just have to grow it out. Hairdresser didn't listen to my direction. Haircut $45 could have gone to supercuts. So never again. They need to learn to listen to customers expectations. read more

I called the salon inquiring about the best person to do a platinum blonde (my hair is already a light blonde, but I wanted a more white look), they scheduled me with Cass for an all over blonding. I went to my appointment and asked about the technique and if I would need a transformation booking and was told no, she could get my hair where I wanted it in a couple of sessions. I agreed, not wanting to damage my hair. The first session was good, it got it lighter and touched up the new growth I had. She said the next appointment should get me where I wanted, so I scheduled it 6 weeks out, I went to that appointment and again she foiled my hair an all over blonding they call it. This turned it a little lighter, touched up the new growth but I still had several places that were darker blonde that did not get highlighted, especially in the back. When I asked about it she said the next appointment she would start in the back. 6 weeks later I went back, now my 3rd appointment and when I went in and asked how many more sessions she thought it would take to get me where I wanted, she said she thought I was where I wanted, after explaining to her again it was not, and that I wanted an all over platinum color and pointed out several pictures and even a co-worker with the hair I was after. She proceeded to foil my hair, yet again, while I asked her about doing a paint on or all over, and she said no this would get me where I wanted. 3 hours later the front and top of my hair looks great and is the color I wanted, minus a few dark spots she missed, the new growth that was not touched up and some areas that did not get toned. The back and middle of my hair is still a darker blonde. When I asked her about it again, she said that she has used more than normal developer and toner and that if I wanted an all over I should have booked a transformation appointment for 5 hours at $100 per hour because she did not have time to do my whole head and it didn't matter because the back and middle of my hair no one sees so it's not a big deal. I told her I had originally asked about that and she had a blank look on her face. I paid her fee, which had actually gone up since the last time I was there, she apparently leveled up, and I left, not very happy about having spent over $600 for 3 sessions and my hair is still not where I had requested. read more

I've been going to John for about 4 years now. He's amazing!! Not only does he have excellent technique, he really listens and remembers details. I never worry about what will happen to my hair when I visit him, even if it's something new. I'm now traveling for work, so I'm away for months at a time. I'm disappointed. It would have been my first time there. I was very excited to go there with all their great reviews. I told receptionist please listen to me. I told her that I was going from brown to platinum and my hair is very thick and requires a lot of work and time. So I would needed a long appointment. We'll she didn't schedule enough time for the stylist to do my hair. So I'm on my way back home. Which is 40 miles away from the shop. So that's a 80mile trip for nothing. The stylist was sweet and the shop was nicely decorated and clean. read more
