I was referred to Dr. Lu by my sister who has had her as a dentist for years. She did my deep cleaning within 30 mins or so... she numb my mouth and worked quickly because the numbing cream was only gonna last for 15 mins. I was in and out of de. Lu's office, with minor pain and super clean teeth! Bottom line, she gets the job done and well. If you're looking for a good dentist that will do their job right and efficiently!! Dr.Lu is your dentist, she will be honest with you and recommend what type of services you need done. They have their own little small parking spot in the back, if it's full you'll find some parking on the street but most likely you'll find a spot in the parking lot. oh another thing you need to know is that she only see patients by appointments, I don't think she takes walks in.. so make sure to give her office a call and book your appointment. read more

came in explaining that I had wisdom tooth pain and I needed to remove it within the next week after my vacation. In the mean time, they gave me an x ray and cleaning saying my insurance covered it. Cleaning felt super rushed (only lasted about 5 minutes lol which is oddly short for a cleaning) , lady who did my x ray also rushed me throughout the whole process and was super rude . Dr.Lu barely asked any questions in regards to what pain I was feeling and wasn't thorough with any of the answers she gave me. Didn't provide any dentistry knowledge to me at all to be honest. Overall, didn't feel professional at all and didn't seem like any of them knew what they were doing. I give them the benefit of the doubt anyway and I schedule an appointment 2 weeks later to remove my wisdom tooth (which they didn't give any info or precaution for that either). I call them a week before to schedule and they confirm. Then the day of my appointment, I arrive and they inform me that my insurance doesn't cover their location and my wisdom tooth removal, cleaning, and x ray are all not covered. Totally fine if my insurance doesn't cover , but that's something they should have checked before any of the service given. They had two weeks to double check with my insurance. Instead, I had to pay out of pocket for the cleaning and had to find another place to book my wisdom tooth removal which I needed ASAP. a complete waste of my time and super unprofessional. would give them zero stars if I could. also there was not another single patient in the office both times I went. kind of odd lol read more

Harmful treatment on patients A rotine check-up & cleaning, I was told by Lu that one of my upper front tooth had a crack, needed a crown for $500, one lower tooth had a crack needed a $600 metal crown. I sought a second opinion from another dentist, revealed: only one of my upper tooth needed filling, cost me $80. Both of the two teeth had no cracks at all. Later, I questioned Lu why? She claimed she was trying to nip problems in the bud. I thought she's making decisions based on profit, not the work I really need. Lu played smart games, because x-rays usually do not show the small cracks on the surface of the teeth. After she has drilled in my teeth, all of the evidence would be gone. I'm a new patient of Dr. Lu's... after a few referrals from my friends, including Anthony T. Currently I'm in the process of getting an implant done for one of my molars and she is assisting me in making it affordable - in a combination of payment plans, dental insurance and so forth. I can't believe that I didn't go to her sooner. Dr. Lu and her staff are wonderful! They are compassionate, helpful, great at what they do. They all all personable and soothes my fear of the dentist. My cleaning and extractions have been quite tolerable. I just can't thank her enough. Parking is wonderful there. Went in for a check up because I had major tooth pain and the Dr. Lu insisted that I need to extract my tooth for implants. She and receptionist was persistently trying to convince me to get implant with them, telling me about all the worst situation that could happen if I don't get implants with them. However I told her I needed to think about it and check with few dentist to confirm. I'm glad I made the decision to check with my primary dentist and 2 other dentist elsewhere, was told that my tooth was perfectly fine, slowly my tooth pain faded away. I don't know if I can ever trust this place ever again!! So, everyone please consider checking with other dentist(S) before taking any actions. I would not come back here. I love coming to Vivian Lu. I first came here while looking for a dentist to extract my wisdom teeth out. Other places told me that it would cost a lot (I don`t have dental insurance) because I need a specialist due to the fact that my wisdom teeth were still hidden. I came to Dr. Lu and she told me she can do it for me and she did the procedure that same day I visited her. I had a 10:00 am appointment. As I was waiting in the lobby, a woman rushed in and the receptionist took her right away. I waited 45 minutes, so upset. When the dentist finally saw me, I asked her, what time was "that" lady's appointment, because I arrived before she did. She told me that her appointment was at 9:30 am. This is the thing, if your patient is late, you need to have courtesy for your other patients who are on time. That 9:30 lady should have waited because it was her own fault for not arriving on time. And it's the dentist and/or their staff to see to that. How ridiculous it is to make your on-time patients wait 45 minutes? That's just poor business policy. I had no idea there was only one dentist working at that office. Had I known that, I would have realized that the woman was cutting in front of me and the office allowed it. Finally, I had the tooth extraction. Vivian Lu told me that she could give me a good discount of dental implant for $1,500, normally cost $1,700. At the same time, she refused to release my dental x-ray records. She said it was accidently gone. I doubt that I were involved an unnecessary root canal treatment. I am rating this a 3 star because of the price and how unwelcomed I felt at here. Pulling out wisdom teeth cost $500 for 2 [so $250 each wisdom tooth]. They do not accept Medicaid/Medical. Check ups/cleaning cost $50 Although I have not met Vivian Lu in person [she seems like a nice lady over email], but the reason why I am rating this place 3 stars is because the other dental assistant (I believe) that speaks cantonese was incredibly rude. I love Dr. Lu. I wish I could have taken her to Boston with me, where I recently moved. She has been my dentist for years. I think it will be very difficult to find a dentist as honest as Dr. Lu. Once I have been to another dentist where there were many doctors who were rotating. They did not even talk to me and pushed unnecessary procedures. After examination they said I have to do these fillings on about 7 teeth (It was a long time ago, so I do not remember the exact number) and tried to push many procedures that were impossible for me to pay. Then I found Dr. Lu upon a friends' recommendation. She told me none of those fillings were necessary. She monitored my teeth for years, and those teeth that the previous dentists wanted to do fillings for and said would get cavities within two months if he did not do the fillings now, never got a cavity. Dr. Lu is very attentive and caring. She knows who you are, monitors your teeth and you can completely trust her professional opinion. After years of being her patient, I am absolutely certain that she will never push an unnecessary procedure to her patient. She is a very very good doctor. read more

I owe this dental office a review. Dr. Lu is very professional and knowledgeable. At times the office maybe overwhelmed with patients and at other times they may not. I happen to be one of the patients to show up without an appointment because I had a serious toothache. In emergency situations like this, I'm glad i was able to see a doctor right away and not schedule an appointment for the next available date. Everyone's fear from the dentist is pain. I am intolerant to pain but her teeth cleaning is pain free. Basically the more you take care of your month and the more regular check ups you do, the less pain. The more crud and build up in your teeth will obviously lead to more scrubbing and possibly pain. If there are any issues in your mouth Dr. Lu will explain to you what is going on. With a background from USC she is very knowledgeable. I had an abscess drained one time, not knowing what one was. Floss, brush and rinse. My husband and I have been going to Dr. Lu for almost five years now, and she is awesome! She has a great sense of humor and always a smile. She is very reasonable with her prices. I've saved a nice amount of money when compared to the prices I had to spend with my previous dentist. I love her recpetionist/front desk girl, what a sweetheart! I have to agree with Sophia W that Dr. Lu can be a little chatty, but a lot of times she'll just tell you funny stories while she is working on your mouth. It does make the time go by quick. In fact, I think my last cleaning really only took about 7-8 minutes (and then a few more minutes for the flouride polish...which totally tickles me!) Dr. Lu is great, I have been seeing her for years. She doesn't beat around the bush, she tells you what the problem is and your options for fixing it. The quality of her work is outstanding. Dr. Lu is awesome! I had my wisdom teeth pulled from her a few years ago and was very impressed by how little pain I felt. I had always heard stories of people crying in pain not being able to eat for weeks but I was up and ready to rock and roll in under 24 hrs. I am sure everyone has a different story but I guess I was lucky. She spent awhile taking her time with my wisdom teeth because they were in a awkward shape and she actually took 45 mins carefully breaking one of my upper ones into small pieces to pull out. The next time I came to visit I needed to replace my old fake tooth. Last time I replaced it was over 7 years ago. I always hated how awkward it felt but I was very surprised how well Dr. Lu made my new tooth. It fits perfectly and looks real! This place was ok when I had my first visit a year or two ago. During that time I had no insurance and didn't like seeing the dentist much but only to have cleaning done. The doctor did the job no problem. But there is one assistant that I grew to dislike. She just kinda turned me off, telling me to shift this way that way that I thought she was resentful. I was there for regular cleaning. Does it matter if forceps used are rusted? Why? And people were coming in and out of the patient room when I had my teeth cleaned. My room was connected to next patient room without a door but a curtain. I could hear all conversation from next door. Let alone the receptionist whom doesn't know what she needs to do. read more

Dr. Lu is great. Her office is opened on Saturdays and she will do her best to accommodate your schedule. I made an appointment to get something done on one of my crowns. When I went in she had already had a payment plan and a plan on what they would do to minimize the amount that I would have to pay out of pocket.
