Viva Más has the juiciest carne asada tacos I've ever had. The meat is full of flavor and the corn tortillas were soft and warm. Initially, I thought this place would be another mexican restaurant... but it isn't. The inside is gorgeous and colorful (and it smells good too). Although their menu is pretty similar to the other restaurants in town, they have tortas (mexican sandwiches) and cochinita pibil (marinated pork), which are pretty rare to find. read more

Viva Mas - Carne Asada tacos - Mexican Near Me - Bloomington, Indiana

Had taken my family here for dinner Monday night and the services was awful. However the food has always been amazing! It was very good! The service is what made me give a 2 star. Had a total of 6 people in my party so they charge 20% gratuity.. don't agree with this since two of the people are under 5 years of age. Waited 10 minutes just for drinks, salsa and chips was already empty before we received our drinks. read more

Exactly the kind of Mexican restaurant I was looking for, with fast, friendly service, good chips and salsa, and a remarkably nice kick to to the green enchiladas. If this sounds good to you, you'll like this place too. read more

CUSTOMER IS NEVER RIGHT AT VIVA MAS! Good food experience but wait staff is rude not knowledgeable. Management is unfriendly with a generally cocky attitude. read more

Is this real Mexican? No. But if you're craving copious amounts of cheese and salt, then look no further. The decor is colorfully loud and tacky. The staff is not rude, but not overly friendly either. Which sometimes is a welcome thing when Midwest 'charm' starts to stifle. We were there on the weekend, and hit up the lunch specials, which were supposedly smaller versions of their main menu. 'Smaller' must be relative since there was more than enough food. Come hungry, check your expectations, and you'll be happy. Perfect for a hangover cure. Wohoo for their salsa and chips! read more

If you are looking for flavorful Mexican food you're not going to find it here. Zero spices on anything (chimichanga's, chicken quesadilla, and tacos). Don't get me wrong nothing was horrible, just very plain and unimpressive. Chimichanga's weren't fried and tasted of plain ground beef. Chicken quesadilla tasted like plain chicken and tomatoes. Tacos, beans, and rice are the same story. Chips were warm and salsa was good. All in all not the worse thing and a decent amount for the price at lunch. read more

My trip to Viva Mas actually began as a trip to the late Casa Brava; my girlfriend had never been and I was excited to take her. When we realized it had closed, we begrudgingly decided to try Viva Mas, an establishment that opened right next to the old Casa. When we came inside, I was a bit skeptical about the decoration. It was a bit too much for my taste, and the layout felt a tad too crowded. However, their margheritas were absolutely DELISH, the chips and salsa were good (the chips even seemed to be homemade, which is a positive in my book), and the fajitas were absolutely smashing. The service left a little to be desired, but that can definitely be overlooked. If you're searching for a new regular place to get your mexican food fix, look no further; Taco Tuesday's in Bloomington just got a little better. read more

The atmosphere was much better than the two previous restaurants at this location. The salsa was good. The chips are not as thin and crispy as they should be but they were decent. Our food was excellent overall. I had a chimichanga with a couple of sides. Our only negative was the long wait to get our check. Our server just disappeared for long periods of time. We finally went to the front desk to pay. We were given the wrong check and that had to be corrected. Hopefully the service will get better. read more

My first time eating food from here (I got delivery). Ordered directly off the vegetarian menu and had ground beef in my combo. The meat sauce was in the same container as the other combo items, making the meal more or less inedible for someone who doesn't eat meat. Also ordered vegetarian fajitas, because that seems like a pretty standard dish that isn't easy to mess up. The fried vegetables tasted more like an Asian stir-fry than fajita fillings and included broccoli and carrots, instead of the standard onions, mushrooms, and peppers. And finally--dessert. The flan was curdled and tasted like pumpkin pie, not custard. What a waste of my household budget. read more

This was some of the worst Mexican food I've had in a long time. The sauces were watery, with a strange film upon all of the cheese. The beef was grainy and the chicken was dry. The severe lack of flavor in all of the dishes was disappointing, and reminded me of an overpriced taco bell. I wouldn't come here for anything but a comically oversized margarita. read more

Listen folks, the main dishes are quite good. I've been here a few times, and have been rather satisfied each time. However, the rice is so very clearly NOT fresh, bland, and disgusting. Go here and get some good food, but substitute for the rice! read more

We had a chance to go when the restaurant first opened. I LOVE the colors, the genuine feel of culture, I felt like I was back in Los Angeles. The food was ok. I wanted more flavor in my Street Tacos and my fiancé enjoyed her meal. My compliments to the owner for really bringing a taste of authentic cuisine to the Midwest. The meat in the dishes were tender, could have been cooked a bit more in the fajita dish. Ambiance was very very nice. Keep moving forward! read more

We tried Vivas más the second day it was opened & we had an awesome time! The venue is beautiful & the walls & lamps are so beautiful & colorful! The margaritas were very good and a great price. We had the fajitas costa chica and it was more than enough for two people ! My bf got the tequila flight we thought that was very original & the perfect way to try different tequilas read more

Have tried this place ten or so times now and it just keeps getting worse. Done with it. Tried a variety of things on the menu: burritos, fajitas, carnitas, enchiladas. All *very* subpar. The sides you would expect would at least be decent. Nope. Beans are flavorless mush, the rice is flavorless dry bits, the tortilla chips are flavorless shards of stale corn. Viva Mas is edible. But barely. I would expect if they had "Mexican Night" in a federal prison cafeteria that it would be akin to what Viva Mas serves. It was decent/pretty good when it first opened, but I'd just assume go to Taco Bell. And I don't like Taco Bell. read more

I love this place! Bloomington has needed a good Mexican joint forever because the current options are underwhelming and lackluster to say the least. Food is amazing, fresh and tasty and comes out quickly every time. Portion sizes are enormous, definitely come here hungry! read more

I usually enjoy take out from Viva Mas, but tonight was a disaster. My son ordered a steak quesadilla. He got a tortilla filled with steak - no cheese. How do you make a quesadilla without cheese? It's in the name. My husband ordered street tacos with an added side of beans and rice. He got 3 tacos with meat - no cilantro, no onion - and beans, no rice. I ordered beef flautas and got chicken. We ordered a large queso for the 3 of us and didn't get any. It just left us feeling a bit bewildered, but people were hungry and a trip back to try to fix it - having to pretty much start over - just wasn't in the cards. We'll be trying somewhere else next time. read more

Bright decor, regular good food. We took the family here on a Friday night. The place is new, the decor bold. Fajitas were well seasoned but we didn't pay too much attention 'cuz the Margaritas were awesome! read more

Can't get a simple order correct. Place is a waste of money. Every other Mexican place in bloomington is superior.

Admittedly, I was not excited to try this place. Another Mexican restaurant in Bloomington?? No, thanks. It lived up to my low expectations. The place was packed with IU kids, probably celebrating graduation or the end of finals--even though it was only a Wednesday evening. It took about 20 mins to get water, which we had to ask the hostess to bring and then she passed the buck and we had to wait longer. Our chips/salsa came way before any kind of beverage to wash them down. When the waiter FINALLY even looked at us, he had fear in his eyes--he was clearly way too busy to handle one more table, even if it was just two people. Anyway, we ordered, the food took forever, and it was mediocre. Do not recommend. Go to El Ranchero on the south side (which has the exact same decor, btw) with better food and service. read more

This is my go-to Mexican restaurant in Bloomington now. I got the Viva Mas chimichanga and split a fried ice cream. Everything was beyond fantastic and surprisingly cheap. Julio is a great server. read more

I took my son in for lunch and when I received the bill it already had a 20% gratuity (for a party of 2 at lunch). I consider myself a great tipper but like to decide that amount for myself... very unprofessional! read more

My wife and I brought our two-year-old here today for dinner and the food was delicious and they were incredibly accommodating to our little one! My wife ordered a combo meal and I got the cheese and chicken dish - and got to go for grandma! These guys are doing great stuff here in Bloomington! read more

It's not bad. This was our second time. But it just doesn't 'click' for us either. Last time the bride tried a seafood option and theeornchipotle Mayo wrecked it. This time I went for al pastor tacos but asked for no onions and they forgot. Food is fine, if standard, Mexican fare. Decorations are really something - typical bright painted and carved wood panels everywhere. Again, not bad, but not great either. read more

Have eaten here a few times. Food is just ok and nothing special. They use way too much salt too, a pet peeve of mine ! But, my biggest issue is the pricing really. They offer a "combo" (pick three items) and show it with beans and rice for 10.99. Then they tell you that the three items "include" beans and rice as two of the choices ... an absolute scam in my opinion !! NEVER have I heard this before ! They then charge almost 3.00 each for beans and rice so 10.99 very quickly becomes about 17.00 for two tacos and a cheese enchilada ... for just so so Mexican food. Right now, I sooo prefer Social Cantina downtown. I can't wait for Casa Brava to open soon too. Save you're money and go to either one of these Mexican places to eat. read more

Vivas mas employees are scammers. All they care about is your money. This business has not once, but twice double charged the tip. They put on their own 20% gratuity for every bill automatically. I obviously noticed this so i put $0.00 and drew and line through the tip. Meaning I'm not tipping another 20% when the waiter already included it. DUH. But looking at my credit card statement, they charged this 20% twice. So instead of the $4.50 which was 20% gratuity already included, they ran this twice and made $9 off of me. WHAT A SCAM. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWICE. I can confidently say i will not be returning to this shitty restaurant. Very upset. read more

Lively decor, friendly and efficient staff. Bountiful chips with scrumptious salsa. The BEST Al Pastor Street Tacos I have ever had. Hands down. Viva Mas for the WIN! I'll be back and you should go! read more

omg...NEG stars !! bought torta-chicken, chicken fajitas, and side beef taco. Taco meat has zero flavor and the soggy tortilla didnt help either. The torta is large....the combined meat, etc had zero flavor. Everything was in metal pans with plastic tops so everything got mixed and tilted. The guac was brown! I wish they would not serve products when they are not at their best quality. I have had better food at taco bell and for $31 this certainly was NOT worth it. The place was empty and its quite large/colorful. Kids would love it!! One more thing, I entered and went to cash stand. 2 guys were sitting to the side and told me to "go over there"...which I had no idea where that was. They certainly did not go out of their way. Service starts at the door and this certainly was not a good representation of restaurant. read more

Americanized Mexican food. I was looking forward to an authentic Mexican dinner and was greatly disappointed. I ordered the Via Mas Sampler dinner which came with a taco, tamale, chimichanga, chile relleno and what I assume was a veggie tortilla. The food had no kick like authentic Mexican food, was bland to the point of no taste whatever. The poblano chile had no crust and was so tough that I had a hard time cutting it with a knife. The tamale meat was so dry I had to drink water to get it down. The refried beans and rice were bland, which as it should be to counter the hot spice of Mexican food, but there was none of that in the food. I ordered the flan and was perplexed that what they gave me could be called flan. Flan should be thick and creamy, with the texture of a New York cheesecake. Their version was fluffy with air bubbles, although it was a nice sized portion. The carmelized sauce should be dark, thick and sweet, but it looked like a flavored syrup with little taste. I spent $19 for a meal that Taco Bell would do a better job with. The only reason I did not give a one star is that the greeters and servers were awesome. Friendly, helpful, quick to help and no having to wait forever for them to show up to the table. read more

Had a fantastic lunch experience at Viva Mas today. Met three friends at noon, and we were seated immediately. Chips and salsa we're brought to the table, and drinks followed shortly. Our waiter was great... friendly, funny, and efficient. I had the shrimp quesadillas with a side of beans (had a choice of rice or beans), and it was delicious. The quesadillas come with a small pile of lettuce, tomatoes, and sour cream on the side, which is just the way I like it. Can't wait to go back for dinner and a margarita soon. read more

Same as most every Hispanic restaurant just more colorful. Worth a try. Lots of colors! Lots.

Great place!! I've been there twice now over a few weeks. I'll be back. Love the Pollo Loco!

So as most know, La Chareda and Casa Brava are very similar with I believe same menu and owners. To me Viva Mas is a little better version of El Ranchero. Similar menu with similar flavors. It is very colorful inside and good vibe. Food was good and came out super quick and friendly staff. The only negative was the table was extremely wobbly, so when I or the person I was with would cut our food the entire table wobbled badly. But with that as only complaint not too bad! I'm still a Casa Brava fan though. read more

Viva Mas is not the most amazing mexican restaurant in town, but its DEFINITELY not the worst. I would go to Casa Brava or El Ranchero for sure over Viva Mas, but it still is worth a try! read more

I had a great first visit to this restaurant--tasty food and a yummy tamarind margarita, if not a bit sweet. The server was OK, not super attentive or knowledgeable on the menu. Prices a bit high, especially the drinks, but they have top shelf and interesting margaritas that appeared not to have sour mix, which is something I look for and appreciate. However, my second visit things went downhill. We had the same server and he again seemed to not really be familiar with the menu.E.g. drinks are listed as one price and do not give sizes but there are actually three sizes, he didn't offer this information or seem to really know much about it. My dish came with rice OR beans but he didn't ask which I wanted and I was under the impression it came with both. Not a big deal. I ordered extra beans. But then I ordered the "skinny margarita" for $10.99 because it was made with "natural, fresh ingredients." That's all it said. It tasted like water flavored with lime and a tinge of tequila, which I didn't feel at all. The server told me the drink had one shot of patron tequila--it was a 20oz glass! I paid my bill but then decided to let the manager know I was disappointed in the margarita--not to get money back--just give info. for a new restaurant. He berated me and said "is your server the bartender?...he doesn't know what's in that." He then pulled over the woman who made the drink and she said "there's actually a lot of alcohol in that." Well, then she finally said it has mostly water, 2 shots of Jose Cuervo, and some lime. Again, this is a 20oz glass. I didn't feel like this drink had any tequila in it, honestly, and who wants to pay $10.99 for watered down Jose Cuervo? "skinny" shouldn't mean watery and less booz at $10.99. Again, food was tasty but I will hesitate before I return. read more

My brother and I went the first week or so they were open so I don't know if they've changed anything since. But here are my thoughts: It is really well decorated and a fun place to go with friends or family- but it was pretty loud cuz it's so big and mostly open. And we had some issues. My brother and I each ordered this sampler plate thing (I can't remember what they called it) but it had a mini: quesadilla, burrito, and something else. I bring this up because the price was good, about $8 BUT the "burrito" was literally just ground beef. That's it. NOTHING else in it. Just a weird tortilla roll of beef. The food wasn't bad but wasn't anything that great either. Granted we both ordered the same thing and it was one of the cheaper things on the menu. Additionally, Our server was almost nowhere to be found and every time he came to the table it was for about 1 second before he sprinted off. We tried to order guac 3 times but he would just put the water down and run away or drop a napkin off and run away without even looking at us. They were busy and new but it was an issue all evening. read more

This was my second visit in the last few days. The sampler platter arrived quickly and was hot. However, every bite of each item was so salty that I thought I was drowning in the Ocean. The first visit was to order the fajitas. Here again, it was served quickly and it was hot. However, the chicken and the beef was nearly burned. The veggies were grease soaked and burnt fiber. Also, the meat had absolutely no flavor. I won't return there for another bad experience. The second meal was compensated and I stopped by the checkout counter to explain that I had no cash for a tip. The plan was to pay by card. They didn't care, the mgr. just shrugged his shoulders. read more
